Perfect Day to be Somebody's Nuisance! [Blink!]
« on: August 31, 2017, 03:58:44 pm »
Twelve goddamned hours was a long time to ride the rail, and Raz almost wished that he could have simply taken Mimsk to Adstreia - the flight would have been much faster, with no stops involved and a straight line all the way there.

But there he was, sitting in the Valkyrie freight railcar, which wasn't exactly built for comfort. It was comfortable enough, meaning his ass wasn't going numb, but it was so very loud, so much that he couldn't suppress the noise for more than a few minutes at a time without getting a headache.

He'd managed a couple hour nap at one point, but that was besides the point.

But after several hours, he was beginning to get bored. Freight cars didn't have creature comforts other than a big seat and a restroom, and he was explicitly told to remain within the confines of the car.

For safety reasons. Because, for some reason, he needed a security escort. He was a Pilot, damn it all, and a combat operative aside. There wasn't much he couldn't handle, yet he had to have a group of mean looking regular military boys who apparently wouldn't know the meaning of a fun time if it dropped it's panties right in front of them.

What a draaaag.

And so, he stubbornly took up the entire padded bench seat, his hoodie rolled up under his head to serve as a pillow, and played constantly with the damned Zoomix cube that Pilot Royal Alberich had gifted him with.

"I swear, these things are only meant to frustrate people...." he mumbled, growing irritated when he had eight goddamn squares of one color, and one square of another, on one side. Every other side was a chaotic mismatch of everything else. "I mean, how does this even happen? Gonna take it apart and put it back together, puzzle solved, that'll show him....."

And then, he finally heard that blissful screech as the rail ride finally came to an end. Oh, sweet mother of all that's holy.

He was in Astreia. At last.

He jumped up, sliding the Zoomix cube into a pocket, and donned his hoodie - not his usual one, but another white one with a huge Valkyrie logo emblazoned on the back. Just in case a certain chat-nemesis of his decided to make her appearance. That'd make the whole trip worth it.

When the railcar finally came to a stop, he moved to the large cargo door, and hit the button to open it and lower the ramp.

He turned to one of the soldier boys, and grinned. "So, you're here to guard the car and as-of-yet nonexistent cargo right? Not me? Well, buh-bye, then!"

He didn't even wait for a response, only offering a cheeky grin and a wink before bounding out the door.

He took several steps out of the car before pulling his com out of his pocket. Someone should have been meeting him for the pickup, but he hadn't received any messages - official ones, anyway.

Eh. If someone was supposed to meet him, his number had been sent to their administration. They could call.

".....yup. Gonna go sightseeing. New city, new people, new things to see! All riiiiight." He grinned, and looked up. The sun here wasn't so bad - he could leave the hood down without fearing for his life.

So, he fished out his ear buds, slipped them into his ears, and flipped his mp3 player on to whatever the hell it decided to play, and began walking.

It was gonna be a good day.

Hell no...

Hellllllllllllll no.

Sparrow couldn't believe her eyes as she stood just outside Manolins with her favorite coffee in hand. It was the white sweater that caught her eye first, or better yet the giant logo on the back of it. A Valkyrie emblem practically engulfing the short man within it. She had looked him up before... white hair... short... pale. Yep, it was definitely him and Sparrow was brimming with rage and satisfaction all at once. Finally, she was being given her chance to give this short fuck a piece of her mind.

Even better it seemed he didn't even know she was coming. Looked like he had a pair of earbuds in listening to probably the most god awful and cheesy music she could imagine. God everything about him already was pissing her off. First, he was in her city, strolling around like he fucking owned the place. Second, he was wearing that hoodie just to piss her off... she was sure of it.

Who in the hell did he think he was!? How fucking dare he show up here with that face... breathing her air!

Enraged at only self-deluded reasons Sparrow stormed up to him, reaching out and grabbing the wire to one of the ear buds roaring in his ear. She wasn't gentle when she ripped it out, nor was she gentle when she poured her cup of black coffee all down the front of his perfectly white and annoying sweater.

"Oops!" she smirked, narrowing her eyes at him. "What the fuck are you doing in Adstreia you desert rat."

She was being a bitch of course... something Sparrow had never denied being. However, she wasn't normally this bad. Something about Raz struck a nerve within her though multiplying her normally smart-ass attitude and turning it into something much worse.

So, there he was, strolling through Adstreia, jamming to Mortal Coil with a smile on his face...head bobbing, lips moving with the words, hands in his pockets...

And then, suddenly, half his world went quiet when one of his ear buds was violently removed from his ear. His day perfectly ruined, he turned to begin to berate the one whom would violate his space.

And then, there was heat. Wet, black heat. Some little bitch decided to poor hot coffee on his white hoodie. The hoodie that he had recently purchased to replace the other hoodie that, not long ago, had perished in a bathroom fire.

RIP hoodies. Don't go near this pilot. Pilots hate hoodies when they're worn by Razican Eleria.

Raz looked up from the coffee stain on his chest, eyes travelling from feet, to legs, belly, breasts, and finally to face. Those brilliant baby blues of his narrowed in hatred. He opened his mouth, and his words came out in a literal, bestial hiss - modified and warped by sonokinesis so she knew just what she had fucked with.

"The fuck  a Valkyrie is doing, on Squad Business, is none of your fucking concern. I'm here for a fucking  reason, not for fucking  kicks."

Thin pale hands reached up to unzip the hoodie, and remove all the objects from the pockets. He stuffed the Zoomix cube, his Mp3 player, and a letter stamped with the Valkyrie logo into his pants pockets, and tossed the hoodie into a nearby trash can.

No way were coffee stains coming out of white.

"And I've got half the mind to contact Pilot Royal Alberich about this, too. Now, wouldn't that just push your buttons?" He crossed his arms over his chest, and let his voice return to its normal, energetic tone

"Ooooor....you could just buy me a new hoodie!" The change was flawless - his tone switched, seamlessly, to red-sighted rage, to enthusiastic happiness without more than a seconds lapse.

"So, where to? I dunno this town for shit, and I  kiiiiinda have to have some protection from the sun, or, y'know, I might die. No skin pigment, and all. You don't wanna be responsible for that, do ya? That'd be a PR nightmare...."

He trailed off, and gave off a truly awe inspiring grin.

"Am I supposed to be afraid right now?" The only thing Sparrow could think while pretending to listen to whatever little man was rambling on about. Boohoo she ruined his hoodie... build a fucking bridge and get over it. However, she was impressed with his sonokinesis. Sparrow had never seen a pilot with the ability and for a split second was almost curious.

One word did finally snap Sparrow to a tension when mentioned. "Alberich... fuck". For whatever reason, it seemed Sparrow had been getting in trouble a lot lately, something normally unheard of for her. The last thing she wanted was for Grisham to look down on her more than he already did. Hellions were all about team work, and this little rage fueled stunt was just the opposite. No matter Hellion or Valkyrie they were supposed to be on the same side, yet here she was assaulting one in public.

She found herself at a crossroads when debating on whether or not she should just let the albino die at the sun's mercy. It was tempting... but poor sportsmanship on her part.

"Ugh.... fine!" Sparrow crossed her own arms and whipped around, her pony tail flicking over her shoulder as she stormed off in the direction of the nearest shop. She wasn't surprised the little fuck would be a tattle tale on top of annoying. It didn't take long for her usual smart-ass smile to return as she set her sights on one shop in particular.

Not even turning around to see if he was following Sparrow walked in and smiled at the cashier who immediately gushed. Turns out the shop she had just led Raz into was a shop full of nothing but Hellion's merchandise. From hoodies, sandals, sweatpants and water bottles. All of it was crimson black with the imposing symbol of her squad plastered all over it.

"You never said you got to choose the hoodie" she smiled, reaching out to pick up a 'Hellions are #1' keychain and lanyard. "I'll even buy you a keepsake."

Pausing Sparrow let her eyes scan the shop before speaking up again. "I believe the children's section is over there."

For a moment he actually considered not following her, especially when he saw what was in the window displays. For only a scant second, his gaze flickered from enthusiastic to furious, and back again.

Black. Black, black, and more black. As if he didn't have enough black on him already. Skin tight t-shirt, loose black pants, black combat boots with visible steel toes.

Despite the happy glimmer in his eye, he grit his teeth. He had no problems with the Hellions, not at all. His only problem was with her.

And he didn't even have a problem with her, truly, until he'd gotten to Astreia and had the misfortune of running into her.

He lifted one pale arm, his hand threading pale fingers through the white hair on the back of his head. He glanced skyward, sapphire eyes reflecting the sunlight.

"Maaaaaan. Why'd Yavvy hafta send me here? Though....hmmm....."

His gaze lowered to the woman in front of him, just as she entered the shop. Why'd such a pretty girl like her have to be such a bitch, anyway? In any case, he was sure he could salvage the situation...

Some how....

He entered the shop just as she picked up the lanyard, and he arched a brow. "Number one, eh? Hmmm...I'll take two, actually." He glanced at her with a devious grin, before heading in a direction opposite of where she had indicated.

"Long torso. Can't fit kid shit. No biggy, lots of people are too narrow-minded to think of that." He selected a black zip up, like he liked, and tried it on.

Perfect fit. He took it back up to the desk, and grinned. "Pilot Echo Anderson will be paying for this for me, since she's  such a good friend of mine."

Yes, Sparrow was being a bitch. What Raz didn't know was that while he was looking at sweaters Sparrow was at the register, signing an autograph for the cashier. She even took a selfie with him, smiles and all. To the locals and other members of her squad, she was everything but a bitch. Everyone in Adstreia... every Hellion was her family.

This short shit was not.

Sparrow had also managed to pick up a hat, the Hellion's logo on the brim just like everything else. She slipped it on, looping her ponytail through the hole in the back and adjusting the brim to sit perfectly on her head. It completed her look quite nicely actually. Sparrow was still in her workout clothes from that morning. Spandex black pants that stopped at her calf above a pair of black sneakers and a gray tank top.

All too happily Sparrow held out her wrist, scanning the chip beneath her skin. She even managed to only slightly scowl when he called her narrow-minded.

"Maybe some sunglasses?" she pointed at the rack by the register. "I mean we are going for that tourist who doesn't belong here look after all."

Rolling her eyes she stepped away clearly having gotten any amusement she could from the situation.

"Welp, have fun short shit. I've paid my dues. Now go find your nanny."

Raz grinned once the purchase had been completed, and shoved the lanyard and two keychains into his new hoodie pockets. He followed through with the mp3 player, but loosely held the ear buds in one hand.

"The hell do I need sun glasses for? It's not that bright, and it's way brighter in Solarta, anyway. 'Sides that, I already have like, six pairs at home. No thanks." He winked at her, and grinned. "Besides, you're not so dazzling that I need eye protection just to look atcha."

At this point, he slipped his ear buds into his ears once again, completely oblivious to her nanny comment, and blocking out any more of her shenanigans.

Properly oblivious, he offered her and the cashier a half-assed wave and started walking out of the store. He still had a job to do, sort of.

Hmm. Biggest building in sight? Good deal. He wandered toward a large, cylindrical looking tower, thinking that surely someone there could point him in the right direction.

"Jus' gotta find someone worth a damn who can help me with this....." he mumbled under his breath, pulling the letter back out of his pocket. He scanned over it, looking for any pertinent information.

Invoice for delivery, for a requisition of (25) drop packs, as ordered by the Solarta Valkyries, and all the specifications. No name on the invoice other than Yavvy's.

It took a great amount of restraint not to turn around and rip the earbuds away again, but she didn't. Sparrow knew that she was eventually going to catch hell for the first stunt. Someone had to have seen it... Grisham would find out eventually.

Sparrow paid no mind to whatever it was the annoying short shit did after that. She had gotten her jollies out of it for the day and was ready to move on with her life. So she did, heading off in the direction of her apartment. Well that was until she saw him again, looking at a peice of paper and standing in in the street like a lost puppy.

She wasn't sure why, but for a millisecond she felt the smallest pang of guilt for him. Not only had she pretty much assaulted him as soon as he got off the rail, but also from the way he looked he had no idea where he was going. She knew she had to put whatever hatred she held for him aside. At the end of the day he was a fellow pilot, a comrade.. and he was lost.

Walking up behind him she snatched the paper, skimming it over before flinging her arm back in his direction with paper in hand to give it back.

"You realize those drop packs wont be ready for another few hours. They were just getting started testing all of them when I left last night. Takes at least an hour for each one."

As she spoke Sparrow didn't even bother looking at him. Almost like she was annoyed with herself for what she was doing right now. Then again her attitude may have been piss poor but she wasn't heartless.

Turning her head even further away, as if even looking in his direction may kill her, Sparrow mumbled.

"Sodoyouwanttogetsom ethingtoeatorsometh ing?" it was low, almost inaudible. Raz being a sono the only way anyone could have picked it up.

He stood there for quite some time, silently fuming about the whole situation. How was he supposed to find the testing facility without any address? Like, seriously, where was 'Testing Site 7a?'

He huffed, and was just about to shove the damned thing back into his pocket when it was suddenly ripped out of his hand. He blinked, and looked up to see her. Again.

He reached up to slip an ear bud out once he'd noticed he was holding it back out to him, and tilted a brow. "...an hour a piece? Fuck, and Bossman ordered....oh, man. That'll be all day." He stepped forward and very gently pulled the paper out from between her fingers, refolded it, and slid it into his pocket.

And then she mumbled...something . He couldn't quite understand it, she spoke so quickly and lowly. But, the frequency and vibrations, as well as her speech patterns, were easily recognized and simple to mimic.

He snapped his fingers, one time, yet produced no sound - the sound patterns from this he spread out, using a sense that only he would have, and warped in a way that felt similar to her words. Then, he slowed it down, and increased the pitch and the volume.

And then he released, and played back an exact replica of her voice, emanating from seemingly nowhere:

"So do you want to get something to eat or something?"

He blinked, and glanced at her, staring at her with wide, too-blue eyes.

"Holy shit, did you just offer me food? Sure! Where to?"

Again with the sound tricks.

Sparrow couldn't help but be amazed by it, from the moment he snapped his fingers until she heard her question played back. It was so cool.. but she would die before telling him that.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him blinking at her, like her asking him if he wanted food meant she had a brain contusion or something.

"There is an AHOW a few blocks away. It's also pretty close to your pickup area."

Sparrow started walking, not even looking over her shoulder to see if he was following. He would either accept her offer and follow or continue on with his lost dog in the big city act. Either way, Sparrow would be eating a pancake, with or without company.

She assumed he was following. I mean.. she did offer food after all. So she began talking again, an attempt at small talk if you will.

"If we have time later I can show you how awesome and anti-gravity sim is. There is also the Stellarium I recommend seeing. I also bet our housing is better than yours. Psh.. I am sure everything we have is better than what you have."

Okay so Sparrow really was trying... but she is still Sparrow.

AHOW.

She mentioned AHOW.

She was offering to buy him food...at AHOW. There was no possible way this was the same girl on the Pilot chat. Although, she did dump coffee on him earlier...these mixed messages were starting to confuse him a little. Did she perhaps feel sorry for what she'd done earlier?

Hmm...

He noticed after a moment that she had started walking away, assumedly toward the aforementioned greatest restaurant chain in the country, and hurried to catch up with her, falling in behind her just as she started speaking once more.

"Heh, you say you guys have all the good stuff. I'm sure I'll find time, seeing as there's hours to wait for them to finish checking the packs, plus they have to load them all up. Hell, I may not be able to head home till tomorrow morning...."

He blinked at his own statement, and arched a brow. "....might be sleeping in the railcar. Fuck. Oh well. So, AHOW, and then maybe those sims? Then....wander around, again, I guess. I'll have to contact someone to let me know when everything's ready to go, though."

He sighed a bit, and shoved his hands in his pockets as he walked behind her, eyes on the ground. Today was going to be interesting, that was for sure.

"So....how long do you think you can put up with me, before I can expect hostility again?" He grinned, raising his gaze to face her once again.

It was obvious that as he spoke Sparrow was fighting some kind of moral battle in her mind. It would be all too easy to just leave him on his own after eating. However, part of her felt she owed him for snapping like she did earlier. Then he had to go and mention sleeping in a railcar.

Letting out an audible groan she spun around, still walking towards AHOW backwards.

"First, you can always expect hostility from me. If I didn't give it people would assume I've gone soft. Second, I have a couch that you can crash on if you want. Regardless of how much I hate you I wouldn't let my worst enemy sleep in one of those damn railcars if I could help it. Third, I'm not paying for your food. Be happy you get my charming company."

Spinning back around Sparrow crossed her arms. Okay so maybe that wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. Turns out being nice to someone from another squad wasn't  that bad.

AHOW came into view and Sparrow walked in and requested a booth. Immediately they were led to one and given menus before  the waitress went on her way. Sparrow gave it a quick look over already knowing what she wanted before they even got there. Now she just had to make conversation again... joy.

"Don't let all of this delude your thoughts of me. I still hate you."

Well, that was a relief. At least he knew what to expect from her for the foreseeable future. Hostility. Raz wondered if there would ever be any way to negate that  - he certainly didn't want never-ending hostility, but he didn't really want to spend time purposely avoiding her. That wasn't who he was.

Regardless, he responded with a grin. "Well, I guess now I know not to expect anything otherwise. Good, no surprises then. Never-ending hostility. Gotcha." He reached a hand up to brush a few strands of white hair out of his eye, tucking it behind his ears.

Sparrow's next comment took him completely by surprise, and he had to stop and make sure he'd heard what he thought he'd heard.

"So, you dump coffee on me, make me wear an opposing squads hoodie, continuously berate me...." As he spoke, he began ticking his fingers as he listed off the days events, "....invite me to food, tell me I can crash on your couch...I'm getting some mixed messages, here, Sparrow." He grinned and dropped his arms as he continued to follow her, eyes on her face as she walked backwards.

Then she turned around again, and instinctively his gaze dropped to her feet - he steadfastly refused to incur any more of her wrath by staring innapropriately. In public, anyway.

"I don't mind paying for my own food, anyway. Hell, I'll pay for yours, if you're willing to put me up for the night. You're right though, sleeping in a freight car is far from luxurious."

Raz followed her into the AHOW, noting with pleasure the smells of twenty-four hour breakfast and lunch. Easily his two favorite meals of the day.

When he was handed a menu, he simply left it closed - he always knew what he wanted. Back in Solarta, they already knew not to give him one, as he had their entire menu basically memorized as it was.

"You don't have to worry about what I think of you, honestly. But you do realize, even in the chat, everything I say is pretty much just for my own amusement, right? Sure, I poke at you, but if it makes you mad, y'know...I'll quit. I'm just looking to have fun. I kinda had the thought that you were doing the same."

"The pilot chat is irrelevant" Sparrow used one of her favorite words while she brushed the air off her shoulder.

"I hate you because you get me into trouble. I already know I am going to be in so much shit as soon as Grisham finds out what I did to you." With a heavy sigh, she slouched back in the booth, crossing her arms over her chest looking even more annoyed if possible.

"Why did they have to send you? Why couldn't somebody I actually like come over? It's like they were wanting me to do something. Grisham knows I don't do well with foreigners and other squadron members. None of you can be trusted."

That was what this all boiled down to after all. It was possible for Sparrow to warm up to someone, but only after they had proven themselves to her. As far as she was concerned Raz had done just the opposite. From her very first exchange with him in the pilot chat, it was nothing but poking fun and hostility. That was not how you got on her good side.

She even remembered how he threatened her at one point. From that point on any kind of mutual understanding, they could ever hold was thrown out the window.

"I mean I guess they could have sent Seig.... I would have done much more than just throw coffee at him."

"Wait. So you hate me because I was here, is what you're saying. You hate me because I was sent by someone else, for what? Picking up an ordered delivery that shouldn't have had anything to do with you?"

He was halfway out of his hoodie at this point, pulling his arms out of the sleeves and setting it in the booth beside him.

"You hate me because I was following orders. That's pretty petty of you." He leaned back into the booth, spreading his arms as he relaxed - in no way whatsoever did his words match his body language.

"Look. I know why I was sent. I'm dependable. I get shit done. Plus, this work is below the Boss, and Sieg, and Arika. And the new guy, Adal? He's still learning the ropes. I do what I'm told."

He chuckled at this point, and shook his head, eyes closing slightly. When he'd stopped moving his head, he peered at her through a veil of snow-white hair, two glittering sapphires buried in a drift.

"And you hate me for that. That's rich. Fuckin' beautiful. Look, I don't want your hate. If that's all you've got for me, then you can keep it." He huffed and glanced to the side just as their waitress arrived again for their orders.

"Plate of chocolate chip waffles, as much as you're allowed to give me. Powdered sugar, blueberry syrup, whipped cream. Please and thank you, darlin'."

This man confused the shit out of Sparrow. How could he talk the way he talked yet seem so relaxed. She knew if it were her in his shoes she would have been acting completely differently.

Rolling her eyes as he went on she tuned him out after a while. He had completely missed the point in its entirety. No, she didn't hate him because he was here, she hated him long before that. His presence only furthered that hatred.

She waited to voice her own opinion until after the two had ordered. When the waitress did arrive Sparrow did a complete one-eighty. She smiled, genuinely, and spoke lightheartedly as she ordered her own usual of just two plain buttermilk pancakes with pecan syrup. She even giggled when the waitress asked if that was really all she wanted.

However, the moment she was gone Sparrow turned back. Her hateful glare cast towards the snow-white pipsqueek across the booth.

"No," she said plainly, reaching up and taking off her black cap. "You're so fucking stupid." She leaned in, narrowing her eyes even further with hopes of getting her point across. "You're just so damn infuriating!"

Her rage was boiling over again, and it showed as she slammed her palm onto the table. "UGH!" She groaned again, once more finding herself crossing her arms and slamming her back into the rest of the booth.

"Stop being so fucking happy... it's annoying."

He just sat there, listening to her as she went on hating him, calling him stupid and infuriating. All the while, that smile stayed on his face, though his eyes seemed to narrow ever so slightly, sapphires slowly turning to ice.

"Stop being happy....?" he said, and chuckled darkly. "If I  wasn't happy, I'd be a fucking mess. You have no idea...and I doubt you ever will."

He let out a sigh, and lifted his arms to rest on the back of the booth, his shirt pulled taut against his torso - If she bothered to look, she'd probably be able to see the tattoo over his heart.

"Besides that, when I get mad, I slip. Sound is finicky, and it doesn't discriminate...so, I'm always happy. Even when I'm not. And that's torture, lemme tell you."

If it was possible, his eyes seemed to sharpen even further. "And I've been dealing with that since Candyland. So, live with it."

Their food couldn't have come at a better time. Just as Sparrow considered lunging herself over the table at him the waitress returned, sliding her steaming stack of pancakes in front of her. Immediately she looked at her and smiled, the smell alone filling Sparrow with enough pleasant thoughts to last a lifetime.

Normally she would dig right in, food always being something that seemed to calm her down. However, for some reason, she couldn't even bring herself to reach for her fork. Her appetite was gone in the blink of an eye and all she could do was blame Razican for it.

No matter how hard she tried she just couldn't get a rise out of him. He was just too damn happy.

Sparrow reached forwards and pushed her plate away, turning her nose to the still steaming food in front of her. The more she thought about taking a bite the more she felt like she was going to vomit. The entire day had been ruined, and she knew she was to blame for all of it.

"Just eat your fucking food so we can get out of here."

She couldn't even bring herself to look at him, the very sight adding to the building vile feeling in her gut. And of course, there wasn't anything else she could say. He had pretty much countered everything she threw at him from the beginning.

She may have lost her appetite, but Razican hadn't eaten in over twelve hours - he'd rather starve to death than eat what was offered on the rail. One bout of food poisoning was one too many...at least in places like these, he knew his food had been cooked at least recently.

And so, he dug in, picking up his fork and tearing apart his waffles with gusto. There was little that could kill this man's appetite.

"Y'know...." he began after swallowing a bite and wiping some whipped cream off his lip. "Your food is gonna get cold if you don't eat it quick. And soggy pancakes are a no-go." He grinned and took another bite.

"Part of the reason why I go for waffles. They don't get soggy as fast. Texture is so much better, too." After each and every bite, he wiped off his mouth, making sure he didn't get covered in his food.

"So. What would it take for me to make you stop hating me? Just out of curiosity."

"I've suddenly lost my appetite" she countered, reaching out and pushing the plate even farther away from her.

And so she sat quietly while he ate, letting her eyes wonder around the restaurant out of pure boredom. It wasn't until he was talking to her again that she snapped back into focus.

"Time travel" her voice was flat again as she narrowed her eyes. He seemed to cause that reaction a lot.

"My trust has to be earned. You all but shattered any hopes you had the moment you threatened me."

Sparrow then laughed to herself " Yet I'm the one who's going to get into trouble."
