Flint and Steel

((If it makes more sense, Blue can be here too.))
It'd been a while since she arrived here. The culture interested Misaki enough that she had decided to stay at least a few weeks. She wasn't supposed to use magic without permission, and she'd been following that rule pretty well. She kept meeting mages around here, mainly because she was trying to, but also because she had to be escorted everywhere by a person with the power to nullify her magic. It was a bit more convenient for them if she stayed with their mages.

There was a training field not too far from where she was staying. She liked to go there and observe the way this culture trained their mages. It looked like a lot of physical training, just like home, but they didn't learn control in the same way. She quietly observed from the edge of the field again, feeling just a little bit like showing off inside.

[We'll just toss in a random Mordecai escort! ;D]

Yazuri wasn't actually doing much training that day.

Mostly, she was just trying to conjure flame without setting fire to herself or others, with limited success.

Hands coated in a gel-like substance (something she'd taken to doing before practice to try and save her hands; gloves would only burn or melt) she held her hands out, palm up, and focused on creating a little spark of something there. It helped to have a focal point and she was far from mastering the art of creating magic without flourishes. She didn't really need to use her hands to make fire; the flame didn't come from her fingers. It was the action, however, that was meditative in a way, that helped direct her focus and, thus, her power. She needed that sort of visualization.

And she still needed to concentrate hard.

So that was why, when a motion caught the corner of her eye and snapped her out of her trance, she nearly leaped out of her skin, heart nearly bursting out of her chest.

"Ah!" She pressed a hand to her chest and took a deep breath--and then regretted it, remembering all too late that her hand was coated in a sticky, slimy gel. With a grimace, she pulled her hand away, but it still left a greasy, hand-shaped mark on her shirt. Ewwww.

"Oh. Wow. Sorry. I didn't see you there," she breathed.

She observed a girl who had her hands covered in some substance, attempting to cast magic by standing still and holding her palms out, facing the sky. Misaki wondered exactly what she was planning on accomplishing with that stance. Standing nearby, she observed calmly while the girl snapped out of her trance and left a greasy mark on her own shirt.

"So, what were you trying to do, exactly?" She asked in a polite tone. Maybe if she knew what the girl was trying to accomplish, she could help. She glanced toward [RANDOM MORDECAI], wondering if she was even allowed to try and teach people.

Yazuri glanced toward the Mordecai who was currently linked to her, Sevil, but he didn't seem to be paying much attention or seem too concerned about the new girl (whom Yazuri didn't recognize at all), still sitting against the wall with one leg drawn up and watching disinterestedly. He'd taken Mikko's place for the day, since she had wanted to train but had wanted to surprise Mikko with the progress she was--hopefully--making right now.

Turning back to the girl, Yazuri opened her mouth to speak, but that was when she noticed two things she hadn't before.

Two things she probably should have.

One: she wasn't really a...normal girl. She was covered in colorful scales.

Two: there was a Mordecai with her, standing off to the side, dressed in uniform. An escort? The girl looked civilian...

Yazuri blinked, then reached up to rub her eyes. What did that mean?

"Oh, uh." She looked back and forth between the girl and her escort and then back to the girl. "Just, you know. I was just practicing. Trying to make some fire." She wondered if it would be rude to ask who she was. Instead, she went for a more polite route and stuck out a hand.

"I'm Yazuri, by the way," she said, completely forgetting about her gel-covered hand.

She observed the girl a bit more, glancing toward the one who was probably her linked Mordecai when Yazuri did. And then there was some apparent surprise as the girl noted Misaki's appearance. At least she didn't freak out or anything. "Fire. I suppose you could grow into it, with some effort." She seemed to look Yazuri over with a gaze that looked more at her inner qualities than her body. "I'm Misaki." With a minor alteration to the way her hand interacted with matter, she managed to shake Yazuri's hand lightly and yet bring it back to her side without a trace of the gel. "The way we teach magic back home is very different from how it seems to be done here. If you want, and our escorts approve, I can try to teach you." She wondered if a different method would be successful. Perhaps she would find out soon.

Still oblivious to the gel, Yazuri tugged her shirt down and played with the hem. "Um...I don't know," she said, glancing toward Sevil, who was watching like a hawk now. It must have been the word 'magi' that drew his attention.

"What do you do back home? I mean, magic-wise? How do you teach it?" she asked, feeling cautious. Magic was tricky enough for her already and she felt wary enough toward it. She didn't really like diving into new things without knowing what was in store for her first.

Still observing the girl's movements, Misaki seemed to think about how to explain this for a moment. "It's like martial arts. The body and the mind are focused at the same time." She said, glancing around to see if there were any practice targets around. If not in this room, there probably wouldn't be one too far away.

Yazuri grimaced, shifting her weight nervously. "Uh, martial arts? So do you mean like...like we have to beat each other up and everything?"

All Yazuri actually knew of martial arts was what she'd seen some of the more physical, combative types practice, and it just looked painful to her. It was very much something she wanted no part of!
