Just landed (Malriiko Arabar)
« on: October 31, 2008, 03:33:25 pm »
Vedrit looked around the docking bay, having just landed and his ship entered into the logs.
This station had been his home for a large portion of his life, and considering the stations focus on military, he had no plans of returning, but there he was.
Tucking his hands into the pockets of his jacket, he wandered around the deck, not that there was much to see on one of the docking decks.
"Maybe," he mumbled to himself, "I'll see an old friend.", but he didnt have much hope of that.

So the crisis with Aedolis and Edanith had been averted, if in an unexpected series of events, and life on the Libra had gone back to normal.

Too normal.

On the one hand, that was excellent, because normal was good. Normal was safe. Normal was order.

Normal was boring.

Not that Malriiko wanted a war, oh fuck no, but right now she just wanted something to do and barking commands wasn't feeling as satisfying as it usually did. It was probably because she was still a little edgy after what had gone down mere days ago and she wasn't quite sure that she could trust that it was over. It still felt too random and convenient and she almost wanted to ask someone if it had really happened because it felt damned surreal. The bloody counsel of Edanith had been on this station and then wham, change of plans and he's gone. The weirdness of it all was driving her nuts.

But it was also her personality type to obsess over little details and generally be a little OCD about some things, usually stupid things. Unfinished business was one of those things.

In any case, it was boredom that set the drow down to the docking bay to greet the pilot that had just arrived. Now that the faux war had passed, the Libra was no longer closed off, though security was tight as usual. There were soldiers down there to greet, screen, and log every person and spacecraft that docked, irregardless of whether it was one of their own or not. This one was one of their own, a fighter pilot come home after a long hiatus. She recognized the name, though she'd never known the man behind it very well.

Her boots thumped on the hard floor as she stepped out of a lift and into the docking bay, and a few soldiers standing by saluted her. Mal may have been short, topping out at a whopping four feet eleven inches--currently five feet two inches with her boots on--but she was hard to miss, dressed in uniform and walking with the confidence of someone much taller. There was also the fact that she was a drow, and there weren't many of those around. Her dark gray, deep red eyes, pointed ears, and short, spiky white hair certainly gave her away.

Her eyes fell on the newcomer--or rather, oldcomer--and one corner of her lips twitched upwards into a small smile. "Welcome back, Vedrit Mathias."

Vedrit stopped when he heard his name. When he saw who had called his name, he had to think a moment. Wasnt this short, dark-skinned officer the captain during his training back when?
"Captain Arabar," he said as he strode to her. He had never met the captain, or ever seen her closely, but she was short. Her 5 foot nothing compared to his 6 foot 4. He didnt want to stand too close, or he would have towered over her. She would have to look up as it was.

"Been rather busy here, hasnt it?" he said. The amount of soldiers and steps taken to prevent espionage was a testiment to how tight tensions still are.

Honestly, she didn't mind the height difference. Some short people got all bitchy because they were short and had a complex, but it had never really bothered her. If anything, she got a kick out of people's reactions when they met the Captain of the Libra for the first time. People always seemed to expect captains to be big, burly men, not a tiny drow woman.

Mal remained where she was and looked up at him, studying him, then gave a curt nod. "Just call me Mal," she said, and started to turn back toward the lift. She only made people she disliked call her by her proper name, or when the situation was formal. "And yes, you could say that, though that's putting it lightly. For example, you missed a war that never quite became a war, but enough about that. Going to stand in the docking station all day?" she asked, motioning toward the lift.
