Title: Fluffy feathers with a chance of Starshine (Stardancer~!)
Post by: SilverLuna on August 07, 2015, 05:14:26 am
''After so many preperations we finally stole the Galwyn family heirloom.'' a woman with millimetered pink hair at one side and long locks at the right side grinned widely as she placed one leg over the other on the table, lighting a cigarette. She was wearing thick black leather boots with metal straps, torn tights, tight short pants and a black punktop with some belts and large variation of coloured splashes.

''We have it, now how are we going to devide the earnings? The gem will loose value if we shatter it in pieces.'' a man spoke wearing black punk clothes and goggles. ''I do want my cut.''

''We are from the same gang stupid. The head boss decides what we get.'' the woman replied. Six more others joined the table carrying various alcoholic beverages and cheap food which in this case was the best this roadstyle themed house could offer.

''free from the house if we promise not to tear it down more'' A broad man spoke. He wore spikes as accesories on leather straps. His hair was spiky too.

They had preparing it for months; stealing an eggshaped fire opal from a museum. It had not been easy. There were many kinds of protection on this thing. And they questioned wether it was just the jewel and nothing else they needed to grab. Which they thought was odd regarding there were things in there way more valueable then some fire opal.

''Come on show our prize. Laerda'' he said gulping down a pint of ale in one go. ''Ugh... it's like warm piss...'' he muttered but took a second.

The pinkhaired woman took her back and took from it a large eggshaped red gem wrapped in cloth. ''It is ours now.'' she said with a grin.

''It's our master's you mean...'' the spiked man replied before Laerda put the gem back.

Their celebration consistent of booze, and various women whom were taken from other tables did not last long however as authorities arrived.

''Shit...'' Laedra cursed and did not take long until weapons were drawn.

''Forget the fighting lets bail out.'' the spikey one said. ''Lets go to our ship and head to HQ. This ale sucks anyway''

''Grand plan Chronos'' Laedra said and rather then throwing something lethal, a smoke bomb was released before all eight of them made their way out. In their way which indicated shooting their weapons at the ceiling and hitting a few of the police that were there, wounding them so they could not follow and as final, an EMP bomb to make sure they could not call for any back up.

The woman carried the bag with the jewel. It was however not that far; in this forsaken small town there was not much and they had merely landed closeby to get a celebration drink after losing the authorities for getting the thing.

Less than a mile away in the nearest town over, a sleepy little town named Gold Rock as it once had held several veins of gold nestled in many a crack in the ground. However this was long ago, the rich supply that had given the town its namesake had long since dwindled in quantity, there being little if any of it left anymore. But the name like many things here, had stuck as no one saw the need to change it. A remnant or reminder of its glory days the name was, as though it clung to it, reluctant to let go.

It was here a strange otherworldly being resided, as she helped out the restaurant owner with the many tasks that were needed to keep the small establishment in business. The owner of The Black Kettle had long been in need of more help, and since help these days seemed to be few and far between he had really been struggling with the upkeep of the place. There was only him and one other, however the latter wasn't there that much to actually do their part as they led a busy life elsewhere.

In any case, Brian was immensely grateful for the strange alien creature who had so graciously helped him out these past several days without pay. She had told him she didn't need it where she was from. And indeed she was an odd sight to his tired eyes. When they first met, the creature had introduced herself as Evadne, a Flameling as she had called herself. Brian had no idea what a Flameling was at the time. That was until she told him of her true origins. And honest to every god out there, he had completely not been expecting such a answer. A star? In earthbound form? Who knew such a thing was even possible?

But as bizarre as that sounded, he had no reason to disbelieve her as there was no way one could mistake her as being human. The idea was ludicrous at best. Plus the being seemed to radiate an energy so pure and light, it was nothing he had ever felt before in all his fifty one years of life. It was both a haunting and beautiful energy at the same time, something which sparked hope and comfort inside his very soul. Whether she was consciously doing so or whether it was just there regardless, the restaurant owner found he really didn't care much. The energy was peaceful and loving and it always brought a smile to his face when he both saw and felt her coming.

Evadne finished cleaning one of the tables there, simple grunt work for sure, but she didn't mind at all. She was helping someone out after all and that was mattered to the star. About to ask what else she could do to help, Brian came out from the back room then, wiping his hands on a dirty cloth, before coming up to her. "I greatly appreciate all the help you've done for me these past few weeks, but I can't continue to abuse your aid like this anymore. It doesn't feel right to me. So it is with great regret, I must let you go, as surely a powerful being as yourself is not meant to be cooped up here in such a cramped place as this. After all, I'm certain you have much to do with your time here, and that does not include helping out a weary man like myself the entire time."

Evadne had been about to protest, saying it was no trouble, but Brian held up a hand in reply. So it was with that, she was left to her own devices once again. The Flameling worried about him but he had assured her he was looking into the matter of hiring more help and that two people had already expressed their interest in working there. It would only be another week at the very most that he would have to wait.

And so the Star wandered the enclosed grounds nearby, outside the small town of Gold Rock. Nearby another equally small town, she made to enter it to see what other opportunities lay ahead for one such as her. When she had first come to this world, the huge domes had been very stifling for her, as they blocked out the open air of the natural world, even though the lands around it were nothing like they once had been decades prior. The very earth suffered under all the toxic sludge which permeated the lands around it for miles, the people having to separate themselves from it for obvious health reasons. Only the barest whisper of Mother Nature ever sounded anymore, as the planet was dying. Yet life in its own cloistered way, still thrived.

Sitting down on a rock nearby, she moved a hand through her glowing, luminescent hair, the aura around her slightly dimming as she again felt the sorrow of the planet. Evadne didn't know what else there was to do now, but she would continue to travel and see what she was able to. Having been on this earth for a total of two months now during her current transition, three weeks of which were spent adjusting, she hoped to find something of interest soon. Otherwise, she would return to her cosmic home again. Evadne would give it at least another month or so before she did that though.

''Come on we're almost there'' Laerda spoke.

They were only two minutes away from their ship that was hidden in the last bit of nature this forsaken planet had to offer.

Chronos stopped first. ''What do we have there.'' he said as he looked towards Evadne.
''What about it.'' Laerda asked as she stopped by his side, panding.

''How often do you see someone with luminescent hair? Let's bring her in.'' Chronis suggested. The other men seemed to agree.

''What for. The ship is small enough as it is for the eight of us.'' Laerda replied.

''Another woman will not be a miss. It is a long trip. We do not mind doing you but you scare the shit out of us sometimes. Besides. The boss likes special things. '' Chronos replied. ''Laerda, go to the ship with Edward, Tedd and Felix. The rest, come with me.''

Chronos grabbed his pulse rifle and commanded the rest to come with him.

--

''Hello miss. You seem lost. Do you need a ride somewhere?'' Chronos asked with his most charming smiles. Which was not enough to maask his intentions fully making it a really weird one.

Evadne looked up as she sensed others approaching. A group of men, no doubt some kind of gang up to no good. Evadne counted four of them, all eying her like she was some difficult to acquire prize. No doubt she was, as not too many of her kin were to be seen on any one planet. It was rare enough to find one, more than that really didn't happen that often.

Their intentions were crystal clear to the being of light and flame. Evadne frowned, for she did not want any conflicts or needless deaths to happen. Pacifist though she may be, she would not hesitate to defend herself either. The gun the man carried at his side may not be able to outright kill her, but it would still very much hurt no less.

The Star chose her words carefully. "No thank you, that is quite alright. I am merely deciding where to head next is all. Do not let me trouble your group at all, I am quite capable of finding my own way, rest assured." Evadne hoped that would be the end of that, but somehow she doubted they would give up that easily.

''Ahw come on it will be fun.'' Chronos spoke.

''Oi Chronos.'' Laerda said. ''You do need to open the bloody ship.'' the flap of the bag was not closed properly and a small part of the red jewel despite wrapped was visable.

Chronos tossed her the device that would allow her to do so.

''Leave it Chronos... you are horrible with women. And you are surely not as handsome as you think you are. Let us just go...'' Laerda spoke.

The Star shook her head no. "I really must be going." she started to get up, when she noticed the gem-like egg the woman carried in her bag.

That was the egg of a phoenix, she was certain of it. She had seen plenty of them before on her myriad travels.

Yet she turned her gaze away quickly so it would not look like she was interested in taking it for her own. Evadne worried that the unborn fire bird would be treated unfairly if it remained in the hands of these people. Yet there was little she could do, as the Star knew more than most not everything was within her control. Evadne did not want to cause a fight to break out if she could avoid it.

Stepping away from the spiky haired man, she made to go her own way then. Unless the man decided to stop her. Evadne wouldn't be surprised at all if he did try something like that.

''Ahw don't be like that, it can be fun'' Chronos said and stepped towards Evadne, placing the rifle against her back. ''Or do you need me to resort to this. Remember pretty lady you are all alone.''

Laerda sighed deeply and turned around heading to the ship. Most others were about to do the same.

When the barrel of the gun rested on her upper back, Evadne stayed very still and slowly, ever so slowly held her hands up in the universal gesture for peace, her back facing the man. Where the cool metal of the gun touched her, it quickly became very warm to the touch, but not outright hot as the fieriness of her body affected it. However, unless Chronos touched the tip of the gun it would not be noticeable.

"I do not wish for any trouble." the Flameling stated carefully. "There is no need for that."

''Then come with us quietly.'' Chronos said. He did not remove his pulse rifle though and reached out to grab Evadne.

''Stop following your bloody loins and go before the police shows? This jewel is heavier then you think'' Laerda spoke and opened the ship when reaching the thing that was hidden in the few trees and bushes.

The Flameling did as she was told, not saying anything more. Her body would feel warm to the touch, more so than a human's would be as though an inner fire burned within her, as indeed one most certainly did. It was not enough to burn anyone or anything though. Part of the transformation to come to any world required such.

Evadne did not like where this was going and she hoped nothing ill would come of it. She was completely aware of Chronos' intentions toward her, and while not terrified in the slightest as she had faced far worse than he, it still greatly unsettled her. Their ship was just ahead, and so Evadne let herself be led towards it.

''My my feels as if you have a raging fever. Do you crave already that much?'' Chronos said.

Laerda did as if she had to puke and entered the ship as it opened. She swore though noticing something strange. ''Oi Chronos. The gem is glowing...'' she said. It indeed did. Very fainly before dying out again.

''Who cares. It will be the Boss' problem.'' Chronos replied. In his head completely picturing how his little adventure would turn out like with this strange woman.

"It is the same for all my kind." Evadne told him, purposefully not revealing any more than that.

Pondering how she would get out of this mess without causing anyone any harm, plus the fact that the rifle was still pressed up against her back, the Flameling tried to think of a good solution here. This had happened a few times before, so it wasn't completely unexpected. However she had had to mortally wound those who tried, and there had been that one time a group had gotten wholly incinerated. It was to this day not something the Star was proud of, in fact quite the opposite. There had been little choice in the matter though. The familiar guilt plagued her even now as she remembered that horrid time.

Recalling what she had done before to escape similar predicaments, Evadne tried to think of how it may work in this new situation. Just then, the egg started glowing a bright red light and the woman told her companion this. However he seemed quite ambivalent to the whole matter, seemingly only interested in her. Knowing the extreme rarity of phoenix eggs more so than any gem would be, with a few exceptions, Evadne kept quiet on what they actually had in their possession. But she did dare to ask one thing though.

"What do you plan to do with that gem?" Carefully using the word 'gem' instead of 'egg', so as not to unintentionally put the fire bird in any more danger than it already was. Evadne hoped she wouldn't accidentally anger any of them either, but it was a chance she had to take.

''That would be our boss to decide. Sell it maybe. Put it on display. It can be cut in smaller pieces to sell as small gemstones would he so desire. I truth be told do not know what he sees in this thing. There were way more valueable things in the museum. Usefull things that would be a lot more easy to sell.'' Chronos replied.

Once everyone was in the ship, the door was closed again in its slow automatic way. It was not a very filthy ship but certainly not one of the cleanest either. There were beercans, bottles of booze and a few things in crates that were most certainly not theirs. ''Ray. Get us to HQ. I need some... alone time with this pretty lady when we are in space.''

''Do not break her like the frikkin rest Chronos? If you want to present her to the boss that is. You do know how he things about taking extra playtoys. We either need to imprison them or kill them.'' Laerda muttered as she sat down in the co pilot seat. Taking out the gem that barely visable hummed in a weak glow. ''This thing is warm. Hey guys I do not think this is a gem.'' she tapped on it a few times.''

Ray who buckled up and looked at the gem shrugged. ''Who cares. Boss wants it, he gets it. What if it is a dragon egg now that would be cool.'' he said with a grin.

At the mention of the egg being cut up into small pieces in order to divide its worth among this group Evadne found herself with, she feared for the magical bird's life then but still said nothing. There wasn't much she could say. Evadne hoped there was a chance they would lose interest in it, but that was really unlikely. And Stars never lied, it was against their very nature so she couldn't spin some tale about it being worthless, even though if she did they wouldn't believe her anyway. The egg's very appearance only pointed towards riches of one of the greatest kinds.

Regarding the Flameling's own dilemma, she stalled for time as best she could. "Where is this ship heading, if I may ask?" Looking around at all the booze, empty beer cans and stolen merchandise, she frowned again, wondering just who all had to suffer in order for this gang to get their hands on everything. It was appalling to her to say the least.

''We have a bigger ship in the open space. We bring the goods there and we get paid by our boss who then either sells the stuff or puts it in his collection.'' Chronos spoke.

''They should give us a better ship the door won't close. Again.'' Laerda spoke and got out of her seat. ''If you want to take her I suggest to do it while I fix the bloody door.'' she muttered. Grabbing a bag of tools and went to where the door was to see what was going on.

Looking around the ship interior, Evadne considered her options. The egg was still sitting on one of the seats in the cockpit, and she eyed it a little while examining what other options she had available to her. This boss of theirs most likely knew exactly what the egg was as the Star recalled Chronos' earlier words about the museum having much more valuable objects to steal. Add to that, the entire reason they had captured her. Their boss, whoever he was, liked things of a rare and hard to acquire nature, and Evadne fit that bill perfectly as well. Others had tried to capture her for that very reason. Foolish it was though, to try to contain a Star. It was only asking for trouble. Not because her kind were vicious but rather the fact those Stars who could descend were beings of freedom as well as light. To try to imprison one was akin to an attempt to control creation itself. Or at least a part of it.

One thing she could try as she had done so many times before, was activate her Star-Speak ability in such a way that she could command them to stop and change their minds about something. Being a language that was both externally communicated, as well as telepathically sent, one that would sink deep into one's subconscious mind as well, it would take a strong-willed person or at the least one who was set in every way to carry out whatever it was they wanted to accomplish to resist its effects. Still she needed to try, both for herself and the egg they had.

"The gem you carry is a danger to all on this ship." Evadne spoke in her native tongue, the message it conveyed twisting within and around the both of them in surreal waves of mystical ambiance as she directed those words to the spiky-haired man. "You would be wise to leave it behind. Myself as well. Many of your fellow crew mates could get direly injured. I am only looking out for everyone's safety."

While the power of Star-Speak could not be denied, it could also be resisted by certain beings and people. Now all she could do was wait and see what results it would have.

''Danger how. Certainly not as much as our boss if we ditch this thing. Oi Laerda did you not say it was glowing or something?'' Chronos asked.

''Do not bother me I am fixing the bloody door. If the girl you wish to bang is so dangerous herself she would've put up a fight don't you think? Now let me work if we are late the boss will have us flayed alive and eat our own skin. Or let us eat our flesh with the last one standing being rewarded with permission to live. No thank you.''

The other pilot took the gem in his hands and studdied it. ''What if it is a bomb of sorts?''

''Do not be ridiculous...'' Chronos muttered and wrapped his arm around Evadne. ''If you are dangerous show me in the bed. Come on... I'm bored and long for female flesh.'' he said with a sheepish grin. His trousers did confirm his words.

The feel of his bulging member against her leg was startling to Evadne. She knew what it was of course, one did not live for as long as she had only to be ignorant of such things. She shoved him gently away from her, not too forceful but enough to take a hint.

"Stop this." she commanded him in Star-Speak. "Do not make me hurt you."

If for some reason her warning didn't work, she would be forced to temporarily blind him with another power of hers. And she didn't want to do that if she could avoid it. She was not going to lay with him or any of his crew for that matter.

''Oh fire in you after all. That's the spirit.'' Chronos said grinning. ''Don't worry, you will enjoy it. Normally I take Laerda but she scares the shit out of me'' he dodged a screwdriver the girl threw at him.

''Rot in hell Chronos..'' she muttered. ''You will need to wait bedding that poor soul. Help to fix the bloody ship before we all get screwed. Go outside. Check the wiring you useless goblin. Besides. Our guest is not into women. She seems like a ladies person.''

Chronos muttered and swore something but gave Evadne a peck on her cheek before he headed out.

''I recommend you leave. I won't stop you'' laerda assured.

Evadne did as she was told, seeing as now was the best chance to get away without anyone getting hurt. That also meant leaving behind the egg as well. There was nothing she could do for it, she had already tried.

She prayed for the safety of both parties, the crew against the egg when it would finally hatch, and the phoenix bird itself being imprisoned by that very group. She considered both possibilities as being equally probable, and so with a heavy heart the Star exited the ship and made to leave to go somewhere else. Perhaps this would all turn out favorably, but many times as she very well knew, that was not always the case.

''Now with Chronos out...'' the pilot grabbed the egg and a sledgehammer

''Damnit Ellis..''Laerda said as she got on her feet.

''Screw the boss I want my cut, now'' he grunted as he placed it on the ground and raised the hammer in the air. ''Broken or not it will still be worth a fortune.''

Outside the ship door now, the Flameling was about to head on her own way when she heard what the other intended to do. Rushing back in as fast as she could, Evadne halted then just as the pilot raised the sledgehammer in the air. "Stop!" she called out, again in Star-Speak.

Once she was sure they were looking at her, she continued. "I would not do that if I were you."

''Make me'' Ellis said and lowered the hammer. His greed was strong. His fear for the boss too as he just wanted a piece of the prize and bail out with it.

When the hammer hit the egg however it released a fierce red light which deflected the hammer against one of the wallpanels. There was a small crack on the surface but certainly no major damage. Laerda slapped Ellis in the face. ''You greedy bunch of asstard. The boss will have all our necks for that!''

Being to busy with Ellis now though she failed to notice the egg pulsated weakly red

While Laerda and Ellis were busy clawing at each others' throats, the Star noticed the red glow from the egg. It was faint now, but it seemed that it might quickly get stronger. Evadne had witnessed enough phoenix eggs hatching many times before and the results were always disastrous to those who did not possess fire immunity or were not comprised of fire themselves. No doubt an explosion of fire and flame would occur soon, and while the Flameling would not be harmed by it, the others most certainly would.

"Look out!" she yelled, as the egg grew steadily brighter almost in a blinding glow of light.

((OOC: I hope you don't mind me dictating what the egg was doing. If you do, I'll edit my post.))

((No worries ;)  ))

The two thiefs looked at the egg and the crack increased. ''Nice job Ellis.'' Laerda spoke scolding the man.

As the crack proceeded however the egg glowed more intensely and released a warm but none hostile aura before lighting the whole room with red. Something seemed to be inside and moved. But before any of the two thiefs could see what it was the shell broke scattering the pieces all over the place. But there was no fire engulfing the room like it perhaps was supposed to be. The light dimmed and revealed a strange young bird with three long tail feathers. The feathers were red with orange and yellow. One of the wings seemed damaged or even broken however, probably by the shock the hammer provided.

It let out a weak cry before falling over on the floor shivering.

''What the heck is that..'' Laerda said and approached it with caution.
''An egg? It was a frikkin egg? You're joking right? This can't be what we risked our damn lives for.'' Ellis growled angrily. ''They must have switched the real gem for something worthless as that thing to prevent it from being stolen.''

Witnessing the bird's dilemma, Evadne rushed over to the baby phoenix and gently picked it up, cradling it in her arms. The soft fiery warmth of her body would be enough to get the phoenix's temperature back up, although it wouldn't be immediate. It would explain why there was no eruption of fire.

Holding the red, orange, and yellow bird in her arms, Evadne cooed softly to it like a mother would to her own baby, mindful of its broken, battered wing. "There, there now. Everything will be alright."

The shivering became less and less and painfull cries turned into some soft contend noise..

''Again... what the hell is that thing.'' Laerda asked. From the bunch she seemed the one with at the least the most understanding while Ellis grabbed his machine pistol. ''Whatever it is, it is not what we were supposed to bring to our boss. 'Bring me the egg shaped fire opal, nothing else;'' he mimiced. ''And now we have a bloody rat. How am I supposed to pay for my son's surgery now huh?'' he swore.

''What the hell is all that ruckus. Laerda can we fly yet?'' Chronos asked.

''Almost Sir. If you can manually reboot we could give it a go.'' Laerda replied. Chronos may be the 'leader' of their little team but he did not know a rats ass about the ship he commanded.

Evadne continued to comfort the baby phoenix, and smiled when the fire bird began making sounds of contentment.

To Laerda's question, she replied. "This here is a phoenix bird. The poor thing is injured." Evadne did not say any more, as no doubt they would realize on their own that the blow to the egg from the sledgehammer was what had caused it.

When Ellis grabbed a machine pistol, Evadne's eyes became serious then. "There is no need to get hostile here. The bird has done nothing to you. Please, put your weapon away." The Star made as if to protect the bird, shielding it with her body.

When Chronos came back in, Evadne paid him no mind, doing her best to calm down the bird she held. She still kept a watchful eye and ear out for any retaliation or anger from the gang.

''Can not say I ever heard of a phoenix before...'' Laerda muttered. Just like most just born birds it did not really look appealing shape wise but the feathers looked nice.

''Ellis. Put your gun away. Survival of the fittest mate. Even if your kid gets those meds he will what. Live one more year? Two if confined to a wheelchair. Just let it go dude.'' she said ''With you dead the kid will be alone for the rest of his life. At the least the reunion will then not take to long.''

''What is this mess.'' Chronos asked as he got in. The thick fire opal coloured egg shells were still scattered aroung.

''Ellis got impatient sir... and used a hammer to break the thing.'' Laerda said cooly.

''What?!'' the man hissed.

''It was a frikkin egg! We were played with.'' Ellis replied. ''Just look to what she holds.'' he pointed to Evadne

Chronos looked at the star before remarkably politely asking if she could reveal what was in it.

Satisfied the baby phoenix had calmed enough, Evadne continued to cradle it protectively. Even when Chronos had kindly asked if he could see what she was holding, the Star only revealed part of the fire bird, a firm but gentle hold she did not relinquish.

"I can take the bird off your hands, since it is not what you were expecting."

Then to Ellis, she told him kindly, "And I am sorry about your son. I understand how difficult this must be for you." Evadne genuinely meant every word spoken, she would never lie about such. "But getting angry will solve nothing."

After looking at the bird briefly, Chronos laughed. ''Ahh Razul... clever man.'' he said with a broad smile. ''We were only permitted to take that jewel because he knew it was an egg. Any idea how rare phoenixes are? He wants it as a pet I'm sure. It just hatched to early. Or maybe hatched because it had been moved after so long.'' he laughed loudly, something that seemed to frighten the hatchling.

''Remember you were supposed to come with us though. Two pets for the prize of one who would've guessed.''

"I am plenty well aware of the rarity of phoenixes." Evadne said carefully, unnerved a little by his uproarious laughter. The only reason she had mentioned what the bird was, was because there was really no point in keeping it secret any longer seeing as the egg had already hatched.

Examining its broken wing though, she frowned. Her Star-Song ability could help begin the healing process, but it was no substitute for an actual healer or doctor. While Evadne had seen plenty of doctors, soothsayers and healers set bones and apply poultices and the like to help with this very thing, she herself was no medic. At least in terms of much experience and not simply just witnessing it. Using what knowledge she did have, she could attempt to do so herself while at the same time use her spiritual song to help ease the pain and discomfort. It was the best she had to any kind of pain-killer. Evadne had only done so a mere handful of times before in her long existence, but she supposed it would have to be enough as she very much doubted the crew even cared about it.

And Chronos still insisted on Evadne coming with them. This time though, Evadne would not protest as she wanted to act as a protector to the young magical bird and she couldn't do that if she weren't there. "The fire bird is injured." she stated again, concern for the young hatchling shining in her dark blue-black eyes. "Her wing is broken."

''I'll reboot the ship and then we can go. Injured or not I'm sure our boss will be happy with it. We are not going to a place to get medication. We have a med kit somewhere here.'' Chronos spoke and headed outside. The little phoenix made some weak sounds glad that the loud man had left and cuddled against her protector.

''Question...'' Laerda said as she looked at Ellis who lowered his weapon. There was perhaps hope if their boss was happy right?
''What does that thing... phoenix... eat'' she asked. ''No milk obviously...''

The baby phoenix cuddled up against Evadne who consoled it as best she could. Letting it get whatever warmth it needed from her. At the mention of the med kit, the Star was relieved. "May I be led to whatever medical supplies you have here?"

To Laerda's question, Evadne smiled. "I can answer that. This type of phoenix eats red meats and sweet fruits. More specifically, the pulp of such." And she hoped they had some of that on hand here for it was important for the fire bird to get some nutrition in her belly and soon.

As far as getting out of this whole situation, Evadne would take it a step at a time and see what opportunities presented themselves. She did not wish to act rashly, and without good reason to. And if she could avoid needless deaths, that would be even better.

''Ellis, take your position.'' she ordered. The man still casted a dirty look at the star and his co thief. With her head Laerda gestured to Evadne to follow her. ''We do not have anything fresh. Most what we have is beer and dried food and water. No idea how long the thing can last without food now it is hatched though.''

Laerda lead Evadne a little deeper into the ship to what seemed to be in the end a bedroom where she pulled out a medicine kit from underneath the bed. ''Here... better then the common one. Men never understand what being a woman is like sometimes.'' she muttered and lit a cigarette. ''You know what Chronos is going to do with you when he is back right? Why on earth did you come back.''

"Any food you have should be fine then." Evadne followed Laerda to where the medical kit was stored underneath a bed. "But no water as that is harmful to phoenixes." Not to mention that water would likely have a negative effect on the Star as well but she chose not to voice that.

"As for why I came back... It is simple really. For myself, that is. I am worried about the phoenix. And I couldn't let that man, your co-pilot harm her with that hammer. But what's done is done, and I cannot change things any more than any of the rest of my kin are able to. Regarding Chronos, I can handle anything he tries. I am not what I seem to be. I do not want to hurt him, but I will defend myself if needed."

Evadne gazed sadly off into space, as though recalling something from her past. "But sometimes certain things are unavoidable in life, no matter who or what one is." Gazing back at Laerda, she continued. "Chronos may think what he will, but I will not yield to him. I am stronger than I look."

Taking a look inside the med kit, she examined the contents inside, noting some gauze, pain ointment and several bandages. There was also a bottle of antiseptic, but there was one thing she still required. "Mayhap you have something to use for a splint?"
Title: Re: Fluffy feathers with a chance of Starshine (Stardancer~!)
Post by: SilverLuna on August 24, 2015, 01:00:14 am
''Do not have a splint I'm afraid.'' she gave a pen instead. Chronos wont stop unless he is knocked out cold. Our boss Razul though... no idea what he will do with that thing. He collects rare things. Pets too. He trains them to become merciless fighters, or sells them for a great sum of money. Regardless I think that phoenix will not have a very pleasant life ending up with Razul. But sympathy will not pay me money.''

Evadne accepted the pen with a thanks and set about her task then, positioning it as best she could on the fire bird's wing. Then she carefully wrapped it up tight with the gauze but not too tight though. Just so the appendage would be set properly and be able to heal.

She said nothing as she worked, but she did listen as Laerda spoke. The Star wasn't sure what she could do to save the phoenix bird from this fate. Evadne would do what she was able to though, and stay by its side as long as possible. Regarding Chronos, she supposed she would just have to maneuver carefully with that one. But the Flameling may very well have to temporarily blind him if it came to that with her powers.

"The phoenix will require some food soon." Evadne looked down at the flame-red bird, it seemed to have fallen asleep. Picking it up carefully in her arms, she gently ran a hand over its feathers then, to further soothe it. Sparkles of light followed in her wake as she did that. Evadne started to sing softly in Star-Song, to lull the bird further into peaceful dreams, her voice both haunting and beautiful at the same time.

''Just stay in my room. I'm no big fan of Chronos or his way of doing. All he knows is frustration intercourse. My second assignment and I get paired up with him. An all ladies team was a lot better. Not that there were no raging hormones I mind you. But at the least it was all concentual...''

Laerda left the room with a sign and got back several minutes later with a tray of food. It was all indeed, dried and there was a glass of water. ''If we put the food in the water it may rehydrate a little. I do not think a phoenix survives on dried food alone.'' She put a few pieces of meat and fruit in the glass and let it set while cutting up another into very tiny pieces.

''We will depart in a few minutes. It is an old ship though so we might have some turbulance.''

Evadne sat down as she waited patiently for the woman to return. When she did, the Star watched as she put the pieces of food into the glass of water to soak. And Laerda was right there, a little water would be alright as long as it was mixed into the food.

"Allow me to help you with that." she told the woman as Laerda cut up the dried meat.

While Evadne was not pleased to be on this ship, she also didn't feel it right to leave the phoenix behind. The whole matter of what to do when meeting their boss when they got to where they were going was something Evadne would need to think about more in order to formulate a preferred response without anyone getting hurt. There were many possibilities to consider after all.

"Tell me about this Razul then. Can he be reasoned with?"
Title: Re: Fluffy feathers with a chance of Starshine (Stardancer~!)

''Not really. I refused this job to be honest. Men are good for fun and nothing else. He made me slam 2 of my fingernails off. He does not take no for an answer.'' Laerda admitted. ''Stealing used to be fun but I never got around properly. Razul took me in so I owe him. I suppose he sees me as his property too. Hence the others are so afraid of him. I am the only one without a family he can hurt.''

A loud sound started to fill the ship briefly. ''We're taking off.'' Laerda said softly. It could be felt by the change of pressure too as they started to leave the ground. ''I think I will keep Chronos occupied by assisting in flying the ship rather then me.''

She noticed the little bird had woken up too. It wanted to spread its wings but when realising it couldn't it started to make noises of complains.

''So... a phoenix... anything special about it other then its unusual colors and the fact it survived a hit with a sledgehammer?''

Picking up the baby phoenix again, Evadne sang to it some more to calm it down. The song was lilting and melodic, able to soothe many a frazzled nerve.

"Phoenixes are also known as fire birds. They have a very strong tie to fire and are even able to resurrect themselves from their own ashes. Their lifespan is divided into cycles, and each phoenix is different regarding that. Being reborn from their own ashes is the start of a new life, and thus a new cycle. I believe this particular kind also has healing ability in the form of restorative tears. They are a majestic species and one I can relate to quite a lot."

Evadne felt the ship taking off, it seeming to symbolize the point of no return for her. The event horizon if you would. Because now that it took off, her choice was sealed and unless she returned back to her cosmic home now she would not be able to leave until they landed again. But the Star knew her place was here for now, to help watch over the fire bird. And she would do that, come what may.

''Healing tears huh? Neat.'' Laerda said with a smile and looked at the bird a little closer. It closed it's wings againn but somehow still seemed a little cranky.

''Let's see if you like this.'' Laerda took a bit of the rehydrated food and offered it to the bird who simply looked at it smelled it, and shivered. ''Please don't tell me we need to chew it and gag it up first...'' Laerda pleaded. It was then though the bird took the piece of presented meat and ate the small piece whole. It did not really seem to like it though.

''Sorry little one. We do not have fresh stuff here.'' Laerda said and took another piece from the glass..

Evadne smiled in amusement at Laerda's whine and held out her hand for the food so she could help to feed the baby phoenix. "I do not believe that that is necessary, no."

The phoenix did not seem to like the offered food though, but there was nothing to do for it. The Star coaxed the bird to eat of the pieces of meat lovingly, and with much care. "How far is the journey to the other ship?"

Again wondering how best to deal with the likes of their boss. Most men that Laerda described and that Evadne had personally witnessed or met herself were far from being the most agreeable of sorts, some of the tactics she had used to deal with such were not something she cared to repeat ever again. While she had millions and billions of years of wisdom in her being, she was not all-knowing and besides the fact the future was never a thing of certainty. There were always multiple paths based on each and every decision of the many who shaped such events. Evadne did not need to be a seer to know this, she had her own special knowledge of these things. But all things considered, she would not resort to violence unless she absolutely had to and had no other choice. It was a horrid thing to consider, but she would do what she must.

''A few days.'' Laerda replied. The phoenix gave happy chirps once it had been fed something sweeter. ''I suppise thisonr is either spoiled or a sweettooth.'' She pondered briefly before getting a hidden jar with a thick amber golden liquid and applued some on a piece of meat before offering it.

After eating it the bird chirped happily and gave an exited jump.

''Looks like it loves honey.'' Learda said with a chuckle

"It would seem that way." Evadne also gave a slight chuckle. She continued to feed it the meat now applied with honey on it, offering it to the fire bird.

There was no sign of Chronos anywhere and for that Evadne was glad. She did not wish to deal with him. Laerda was far more pleasant to talk to and be around. There was indeed turbulence as the ship sailed through the black reaches of space, sometimes shuddering and jolting here and there as it flew. Evadne frowned at this. "How secure do you suppose this ship is to fly?"

"There is no need for such dire actions." Evadne told her, a frown on her face. "Surely there is another way."

Contemplating something for a moment or two, the Star went on. "Many times a situation may seem to be hopeless, but one merely needs to see it through. Better things are likely to come when you least expect them to. Sorrow is only meant to be a temporary thing, and is not supposed to last forever."

The Star motioned to the bed then. "Perhaps you should rest, allow your mind some reprieve from your troubles. I shall take care of the phoenix in the meantime."

''I think I'm good.'' Laerda replied. ''I am not exactly tired and someone needs to keep Chronos in check. He will never come in my room though. As boring as it may sound I recommend you not leaving thisone.''

The phoenix seemed full so she set the food aside for now.

"Alright then." The Star sat down on the floor then with the phoenix bird in her lap, comforting it as much as she could. Singing to it in Star-Song and petting its reddish feathers.

"I won't wander then. No need to worry." Evadne smiled at Laerda then. "And thank you."

The ship gave another jolt then, but nothing too serious though.

The bird purred contend and curled up as much as it could so it would stay warm.

"I believe so." Evadne stroked the bird's feathers some more, as it cuddled up against her seeking the warmth her body naturally exuded. "Her temperature seems to have gone up to a decent level."

Looking back at the woman, the Flameling grew concerned again. "Are you certain you are alright?"

Evadne was no stranger to stress and its effects on mortals and other races. The woman before her looked like she could use a break of some kind. She seemed worn out, even though she claimed she wasn't tired. Perhaps not physically though, but weary of her situation. Evadne could see why, especially based on what she had said about her boss viewing her as some sort of pet or prize. It was no doubt a tough endeavor to deal with. Plus her earlier comment about crashing the ship. Evadne would also help her if she could.

Laerda smiled calmly. ''I'm as good as I can be.'' she took off her gloves revealing two bandaged fingers which was most likely from when she had been forced to remove them in whatever way.

''This life is just not how I imagined it. Stealing before working for someone was fun. My previous party Razul put together was fun too. On the mothership those who are not sent out stealing are there. Majority are men. Women well... most of us don't mind heck, happily start a good lovemaking session. I admit being one of those. But it usually is mutual. This team... Chronos especially...'' she shook her head. ''He is not as bad as Razul but he is no gentleman. Lets keep it at that. The only place on the ship I am remotely safe is here in my room.''

Looking at her bandaged fingers, Evadne was not all that disturbed by seeing that. She had after all seen much much worse in her time. But that didn't make it any better. When the woman explained about their boss and the crew some more, the Star just listened and nodded. "If there's anything I can do, don't hesitate to let me know."

As to what exactly Evadne could do, well she was a Star in earthbound form. She had her ways of figuring things out and dealing with many situations. She would apply whatever knowledge she could here as well. For her, the phoenix and Laerda.

''Basicly best is to stay away from everyone I dislike.'' Laerda said calmly. ''Keep yourself and that fluffy thing safe. Maybe it needs a name. Also. Is it a boy or a girl. No idea when it is able to be seen though.''

Again the ship shook. ''I'm going to need to do some maintenance. No idea what your hobbies are but... there is some puzzlebook hidden under my pillow if you feel bored.''

"This one is a girl." Evadne smiled at the fire bird calmly with a bright expression of care and love.

"As for her name..." Evadne pondered a bit, before replying. "I should think Aeria is a suitable name for her, what say you?" she posed this question directly to the baby phoenix.

The star nodded at the mention of puzzle books and continued to focus on the fire bird, now christened with the name of Aeria. The ship had shaken again with a huge lurch, and once again she wondered if they would make it.

''Aeria... it has a nice ring to it.'' Laerda said with a smile seeing the bird hopped a little in happy circles. She wondered if the bird could even understand what they said and went to the door. ''I should be back in a few hours.'' She grabbed a more special toolbox and left.

Every time the ship shook in the black area named space, the phoenix seemed a littie agitated and it squeeked when Learda left and the door closed behind the woman.

--

Indeed Laerda had come back but it was a bit more then a few hours. More like 8. The ship had not shaken in a good while meaning whatever she had done worked. But when coming back her hair seemed a mess and her cheeks were flushed. Her clothes seemed a bit ruffled as well. Most likely an indication Chronos had a go at her. Or one or more of the other men she shared the ship with.

"She likes the name." Evadne chuckled as the little bird hopped around in circles.

Saying goodbye to the woman as she left, Evadne contented herself with the phoenix and the puzzle books which consisted of Sudoku, crossword puzzles and word search books. The hours passed by quickly for Evadne as eight hours was nothing for a being who had lived for far longer than any mortal could comprehend.

Checking on the bird's wing again, Evadne looked up as the door opened and Laerda walked back in, clothes and hair looking mussed. It was obvious what she had been doing, but Evadne did not comment on this. Instead, she asked, "Everything alright?" Meaning both her and the ship itself.

''So far so good. The men wont bother you for a good while either.'' Laerda said and rather then crashinf on the bed she undressed and touched a wallpanel opening the shower room. Some bruises were slowly forming on her arms but it was far from the worst she ever had.

After undressing it was certainly clear what had happened but she simply walked in the slower and closed the glass door behind her to wash herself. ''If you want something to eat let me know and I will get it...''

Aeria curious as what water exactly was and the fact Laerda seemed back moved a little on Evadne's lap. After a nap in the warm and comfort Evadne offered and another dosage of food the little phoenix had become a lot more lively and wanted to explore the room a bit more.

There was no doubt what had occurred. Evadne looked to Laerda then, saying simply, "You are hurt." It was a statement, not a question.

She let her be though as the woman showered and also let Aeria wander the room as she pleased, but made sure she didn't get too close to the shower door. Water was after all, harmful to a phoenix. Plus the effect it could also have on Evadne as well.

Evadne picked up one of the puzzle books again, a word finder booklet and began to look for the hidden words contained within. Finishing one, she reached for another, still keeping an eye on Aeria as the phoenix trotted around the room.

''Rather me then you.'' Laerda replied calmly. ''Chronos was in a bad mood when I said I claimed you all to myself and that you were relaxing in my room. He took it a bit... differently.'' She was quickly done with the shower though and after wrapping a towel around her body.

Aeria looking interested at the water drops that fell from Laerda's body.

''It are just bruises. Nothing can hurt me mentally anymore.'' she assured.

Setting down the book, Evadne listened to what Laerda told her. "If ever you need to talk, I am here."

While Evadne was not unfamiliar with rape and non-consensual relationships, it was still disturbing to her to witness such, and many times she had been unable to do anything about it if she was in her black cosmic home. Many worlds while violent and full of turmoil, there was still much beauty to be had nearly everywhere. And Evadne, like all her kindred, wanted to see such thrive where possible. But there were some places she refused to visit. Too much chaos and violence occurred there to be considered even remotely healthy.

She noticed Aeria looking with interest at the water drops on the other woman's body, and she chuckled. "Aeria seems to be fascinated with the water on you. I would not advise letting her inside the shower though." Heaven forbid she might find a way to turn it on and hurt herself. Evadne had seen it happen a few times before as strange as that may sound. Usually it was the case of younglings like Aeria herself being far too inquisitive for their own good.

''Talk huh... I do not have a lot to say. I'm not crying not even on the inside. I dried them up a long time ago.''

Aeria looked at the small puddle of water that had formed and strangely, drank from it before shivering. It did not seem to be harmfull though. Laerda made sure that the shower was shut well and sat down on the bed. She was tired. A bit to much perhaps. Then again. Working non stop for six hours and 'taking care of the stress' that her fellow crew had was not nessesarily easy.

The ship at the least seemed fixed but after being in space for two days the lights flickered and the soft noise that always seemed to be present in the ship was gone when the engines failed and stopped working.

The Flameling let Laerda get her rest while Evadne settled back against the wall, relaxing a bit. She did not need to sleep so she figured she would just continue to watch the phoenix and take care of her as needed. A little alarm showed on Evadne's features when Aeria drank from the puddle, but it didn't seem to hurt her much, only made her shiver.

Getting a hand towel, Evadne wiped the floor dry of the puddle. Settling back down by the wall, she invited Aeria to sit next to her if she wanted to while the Star worked some more on the puzzle books.

The next couple days passed by in much the same manner, that was until the lights flickered and the engines stopped their steady roaring. The entire ship was cast into pitch blackness as it silently hovered, nothing to propel it forward anymore. It became eerily silent then, for a few seconds anyway. Evadne got up and went over to Laerda, shaking her awake. "The ship has stopped moving." she told her with outward calm, yet inside she was worried.

There was a definite glow around the Star now in the darkness of the room, it was much more easy to tell she was something other than human. The Star could also still see, as the lack of light didn't hinder her one bit. Glancing around for the baby phoenix, Evadne soon spotted her.

At around roughly the same time that small pirate vessel lost power, there was a gravitational disturbance several dozen miles away, just barely strong enough to register on the sensors, if their back-up power came on soon enough.

To anyone observing, it was like something out of a dream. A literal tear in space itself cracked open, and while peering inside would have definitely caused some form of madness, a ship appeared out of it in the blink of an eye. Technicolor lightning arced off the back of the ship and into the tear, and as the tear closed behind it, the ship came to a stop.

The starship, of course, was Elaros' massive pleasure yacht, The Anastasia (http://files.deepcore.webnode.fr/200003442-95bf096b6f/Head-890Jump.gif). As it came out of Metaspace, large, deflection shields on the windows came back up, and the dull whine of the primary engine started to power up.

Learda woke up first a little sleepy , a bit of drool leaking from her mouth but became wide awake when the red lighrs started to flicker as well and an alarm went off. The latter scaring Aeria and she quickly hid behind a wallpanel. She always hid there when she heard any loud noise.

''Fuck!'' Laerda swore and left her room in nothing more but her panties and tanktop. ''Me and my big mouth!'' Was able to be heard before she had left her room.

In the cockpit were only Ellis was until the rest showed most likes flickered Laerda immediatly pulled a few levers and pushed buttons, and final gave a vical command that turned off thevalarm.

''What did you screwed up this time.'' Laerda asked as she opened a mansize wardrope that contained a spacesuit.

''Nothing i swear. Everything was fine a few minutes ago."

''I will check the fuel lines and the rest. Do NOT touch anything." Laerda said as she made preperations to go outside.

The alarm went off then, and Evadne stepped back from the bed as Laerda was already up and about, cursing under her breath. Evadne winced at the loud sound of the alarm but made no other indication that it bothered her. Watching as the woman left in her underwear no less, the Star went over to Aeria and picked her up, comforting her again.

Soon, the alarm stopped and the faint sounds of Laerda cursing at the pilot could be heard, but it was very faint as they were far enough away from the bedroom. Evadne did not leave the room though, only settled down with Aeria by the wall as she waited for the problem to be fixed.

The young bird whined a little, almost like an upset child but was soon soothed when Evadne held her. The familiar warmth and aura always soothed the bird.

''Are you sure it is safe to go outside Learda'' Ellis asked.

''I'd rather die in space then stick inside with all you men until our oxigen or food runs out.'' she spoke.
The whole crew had gathered and it was Laerda who spoke well. Barked the orders. She seemed in an enough pissed off mood nobody, not even chronos spoke against her.

Laerda was outside for a good hour and while she had been working, the normal lights sometimes flickered until the important ones kept being on. But regarding the engines, that was one of the few things she could not get back on to work.

She seemed tired and her lips were a bit blue since she worked through minimum oxigen capacity. ''Ellis...'' she spoke a little drowsey. Almost even drunk. ''Hit the emergency signal.'' she spoke before she leaned against the wall and sat down calmly breathing more oxigen in her system.

''We're thieves... ovbious ones at that. Want authorities to pick us up? We still stole all of these things and a bloody phoenix'' Chronos said.

''I do not want to go to jail either...'' one of the other men spoke.

''I will not die just because you guys refuse the button. We have hidden cargo space for crying out loud. Hide everything well, clean it up a notch and things should be fine.''

She casted an angry glance at Ellis but he still did not hit the button. Not at first anyway.

''Good boy.'' Laerda said and got on her feet stumbling towards her bedroom. The first news she told Evadne was that she could not get the engines back to work but that hopefully someone would pick up the signal.

At the news of the engines still not working, Evadne said nothing as there wasn't much she really could say. Instead she just nodded and let Laerda get some more rest. Going over to a wall panel on the other wall where she knew a window was located, she lightly placed a hand on it and it slid open, revealing the blackness beyond. For a few moments, Evadne felt at peace as she looked outside the ship.

Then something caught her eye. Another ship. It wasn't exactly close by though but rather in the near distance. The Flameling didn't know if its inhabitants were friendly or not, but regardless of whether or not they were, Laerda needed to know about this.

Lightly shaking her awake, she told the other woman what she saw. "There is another ship out there, some several dozen miles away."

Indeed, The Anastasia had gotten much closer to the gang of thieves. Wether that boded well, however, was yet to be seen.

Elaros sat in his office. He was in a rare state that day, and while he usually could be found enjoying life's simpler pleasures, today he was all business. He typed away on a holographic keyboard, the darkness of space visible in the clear window at his back.

His office was lavish, to say the least. The room was long and rectangular. Expensive carpets, curtains, and furnishings, all of the highest quality materials. A golden statue of himself sat in each corner of the room, and the entire place was big enough to be a lounge.

All of the latest luxury comforts could be found there, along with many priceless works of art, and display cases showcasing genuine copies the most valuable pieces of jewelry his company had ever produced.

The wide, double doors  that led into his office opened, and a few of his guards stepped inside. Elaros' Drakkon guards were armored in fully sealed combat suits, with the helmets being domed to allow for the best range of vision in combat. The plates were curved perfectly, so as to better fit their reptilian bodies. Their rifles were long, and bore a striking resemblance to elegant muskets, although they were anything but. On their backs, they had two-handed swords, curved and sleek.

"My Lord," said the guard in front, and Elaros shifted his attention. "We've just detected a distress signal coming from ahead of us. What are your orders?"

Elaros sighed, and glanced around as he thought.

"How large?"

"Not very big, My Lord. Maximum of ten occupants, judging by the size."

Elaros smiled. He had three times that number in elite guards alone, so he felt pretty safe.

"Hail them."

---------------

It wasn't long before a return signal reached the downed ship. A Drakkon with two cybernetic eyes and a pilot's uniform came on their transmission screen.

"Distressed vessel, this is the The Anastasia. Do you copy? I repeat. Distressed vessel, this is The Anastasia. Do you copy?"

Any Aedolians on the ship might recognize The Anastasia as Elaros' ship. Elaros, with his draconic appearance, extravagant lifestyle, and lucrative business, was a bit of a celebrity on Aedolis. His jewelry was prized among the higher ranks of society, and its said that his jewelry accessorizes the Aedolan leader's outfits.

Laerda was slow to respond mainly due to the lack of oxigen she had before. ''A ship huh... Maybe you and Aeria are saved then...'' she spoke barely awake.
Aeria both hearing her name and not understanding why Laerdia slept, since the woman normally was wide awake at all times after coming into the room chirped slightly on a questioning tone.

--

Ellis, wearing a headset and therefor the only one to hear the transmission did not know the Anastasia; He was a beggar before he was a thief. And a computer worker before that. The only thing that got him into Razul's busines was the fact he was good at something. Hacking to be more precise. If he had heard it before though he certainly did not remember know.

''Yes I copy Anastasia. This is Ellis, pilot of Little Capricorn. Our engines are malfunctioning and seem to be beyond easy repair, over.'' he felt the deadly stares from Chronos and the others but signalled them with his hands to continue the cleaning. Something they did suprisingly well. Although a few murmered the Anastasia's name as if they recalled it from somewhere but just could not put their hand on it yet.

''My co-pilot-mechanic has attempted to fix it outside but seemed her oxigen supply had not been enough. Requesting entry and a medical check-up for her please. We can then attempt fixing our ship, over.''

The coin first fell with Chronos. Which made him quietly to order the crew to work better, and faster. The ship most likely had not been so clean in ages. Still. It was a ship for lowlives and a coffin with engines if it would be given a true inside out check up.

Seeing Laerda in that state greatly worried the Flameling. Looking towards the door, she questioned herself whether to inform the others but it was likely they already knew about her ailing state. Hopefully help would arrive soon, and in the form of that other ship. Still not knowing whether the other vessel was friend or foe.

Finally deciding on a course of action, Evadne pulled up a chair next to the bed and sat down, keeping watch over the woman to ensure her condition did not worsen. If it did, she would be forced to leave the confines of the room and alert the others. Still, Evadne was a Star and could most certainly handle herself.

Still holding Aeria in her lap, Evadne softly began to sing in Star-Song, to help ease the woman's mind and to calm her. Hopefully help would arrive soon. For now, she sat and kept a dutiful watch over both the woman and the phoenix.

The pilot nodded, and reached up to tick off a few switches.

"Little Capricorn, we are sending a maintenance drone to tow you into our shuttle bay, over."

On the side of The Anastasia, the shuttle bay opened up, revealing a bay spacious enough to fit a shuttle, maintenance drones, and even a couple of fighters. A large, spherical drone with engines on the back and two manipulator arms on the front floated out, and the engines powered up.

Within minutes, it had arrived at the Little Capricorn, and it was floating in front of the cockpit. A few seconds of silence, and it fired a magnetic tow cable into the ship's hull.

''Little Capricorn, everything seems to go well, over.'' Ellis spoke. Not hearing Chronos having gathered everyone and spoke about the Anastasia.

The ship smelled a bit more pleasantly. All the garbage had been gathered and thrown in its respectable box and the stolen goods had been hidden away in the ship's hidden cargo spaces. Exept for the shells from the phoenix egg. It had still kept its fire opal like color and was still very strong. Ellis had glued it all together and turned it into a decorative item. The cracks were still visable though.

As they closed in, Ellis gulped a bit. He had never seen such a big ship, not even the one of Razul was this size and his 'boss' already had a rather formiddable size ship and slowly but sure they were pulled in.

--

''You know what sucks of being human? Oxigen and the fact carbon monoxide and dioxide sticks to your blood more easier then oxigen does. I should've went back in sooner...'' she spoke softly. She was not nessesarily dying but a dose of pure oxigen and hyperbare chamber would not be amiss.
Through the window she saw the ship. ''Its massive..'' she said with a tired smile. ''Let's just hope they are kind people..''

Evadne smiled slightly. "As I am not human, I have not the experience of it."

Looking outside as they were pulled into the other ship's shuttle bay, Evadne nodded. "Is there anything I can get you?" she asked her kindly.

The Star hoped they were good people who would help them. For now, all they could do was wait.

The Little Capricorn eventually came to rest inside The Anastasia's shuttle bay. Even the shuttle bay was richly decorated and while it wasn't necessarily furnished, the floors and walls of it were all sterling white with brass tiling, and it had the latest in starship maintenance and portable hangar technology.

Along with the maintenance drone, there was also a planetary shuttle, a car, and a couple of fighter ships.

At the doors that lead to the rest of the ship, there were guards, and there was also a contingent of six guards ready to receive the crew of the Little Capricorn.

Ellis opened the door to Tessa's room and gave Evadne a nod of acknowledgement. Regarding Aeria though he was not sure how to respond. The bird did not seem to like him anyway. ''You've grown a little.'' he said to the bird and looked at Laerda. ''We should get her dressed. She can hopefully get help on the Anastasia.'' he said as he walked in. Regarding the men he perhaps was the less worse. But still, his actions were rational and decided quickly on emotions making him unpredictable. Like attempting to break a gem with a sledgehammer or pulling out a gun.

Ellis walked to a wardrope and pulled out some simple training suit. "Could you dress her up? If I do it she will break my neck if she will not already for entering her little 'sanctuary'. I will need your help walking her out too.''

''I can get dressed and walk on my own...'' Laerda muttered stubbornly as she sat up which was most likely not the best of ideas. ''Just listen to a man once in your life...'' Ellis muttered as he put the clothes on the bed and headed outside the room. He did not close the door however.

Evadne stood up as the door opened, the pilot walking inside. Nodding at his request, she moved over to the door and carefully closed it to give Laerda some privacy as Ellis waited outside.

Heading back over to the bed, she picked up the clothes and unfolded them. Seeing as how the woman had already sat up, the Flameling indicated her to lift her arms so she could get the top part of the suit on. Placing the fabric over Laerda's back, she then proceeded to get the woman's arms inside the sleeves, before zipping it up securely.

"We have landed in their shuttle bay." the Star told her. "I will help guide you to their medical bay, along with Ellis."

Evadne had put the phoenix down on the floor earlier. She had indeed grown a little, and was about 1.5x the size as before.

''Medical bay? I'm... fine...'' Laerda said wobbling even as she just sat. Truth be told she really hated hospitals for whatever reason. She could not struggle back though so instead just allowed Evadne to dress her properly. Not feeling like walking in her undies either.

Aeria did not move although was curious about what was at the other side of the door.

When Laerda was ready Ellis walked back inside putting her arm around his shoulder to support her weight. ''What will we do with that phoenix thing?'' he asked. It could not yet be alone and he had doubts it would just stay put.

"You need medical attention." Evadne told her firmly, still getting her dressed. Once both top, pants and boots were on, Evadne went to the door to allow Ellis in while guiding Laerda outside the room.

Regarding Aeria, the Star turned her gaze back to the fire bird and told her in a calm voice using Star-Speak to help get the message across better, "I shall be back Aeria. In the meantime please stay here in this room and I will return as soon as I'm able. Everything will be alright." she assured the phoenix.

Telling Aeria so in Star-Speak as opposed to the common tongue was more effective in relaying what needed to be said so Evadne didn't worry as much about the bird wandering where she shouldn't.

Closing the door to the room, the Flameling turned back to Ellis and Laerda. "Let us be off now."

Ellis nodded and together they dragged out Laerda following the rest of the crew out. ''Felt like cleaning all of a sudden?'' Laerda asked noticing there was no more mess on the floor, the cargo was gone too, hidden most likely.

''I recommend not to say that much'' Ellis said. The door opened and the whole group walked down.

Everyone was amazed by the place they found themselves in now. Their boss certainly did not had it this luxerious and most men of the Little Capricorn looked up to his wealth. Wanting a little slice of it themselves. ''On behalf of the crew, thank you for allowing us to board.'' Cronos spoke in a kind manner.

The lead guard acknowledged Cronos' words, and he pressed a button on a collar he was wearing.

"Welcome aboard The Anastasia. Do any of you require medical attention?"

The guard's lips moved as if to pronounce Drakkonan words and syllables, but plain english came out of his mouth. It seemed the collar he had on was some sort of translator. Not every single guard had one, but the majority were definitely wearing them.

Helping Laerda walk with Ellis also by the woman's side, the Star also made her way into the interior of the other ship. With the help of the pilot, Evadne gently made her way through the rest of the Little Capricorn crew, supporting Laerda's left side while Ellis supported her right.

Stopping in front of the guard who had spoken, she answered his query. "Laerda here requires attention. She had been outside the ship for too long trying to fix it, and needs at least one dose of pure oxygen."

The Flameling recognized the Drakkon race, she had seen them before. Both the High and Low Drakkons she had had brief contact with in years past. But none of these looked familiar to her eyes, which was not surprising at all. Perhaps some others inside the ship might though, depending upon their age.

Ellis with the help of Evadne got Laerda more forward. ''Appearantly the oxigen distribution to her space suit did not work properly when she worked.'' Chronos explained. There was some worry in his voice for sure, which would be expected of a leader. Of course he was still angry at Laerda for having claimed Evadne while the star was his prize.

All of that though had to be saved for later. ''Laerda, take it easy. I know the ship is a bit of your 'baby' but let us fix it thistime.''

''Over my dead body. You do not even know the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver...'' Laerda said with a smile. ''Just wait till the bloody CO 2 is out of my bloody system.''

''Is there anything we can do in return for your hospitality?'' Chronos asked one of the guards. ''We do not have a lot to give though.''

The guards looked among one another, the lead chattering something into his communicator before turning his attention back to Chronos.

"No compensation is required of you. You were in need, and our Lord Elaros, in his generosity, sought it fit to help you.  However, we're going to have to require you to submit to a search of both your persons and your vessel, to be conducted in separate areas."

''Of course.'' Chronos said. None had weapons on them, they were all in the ship. Neatly ordered in the racks.

The way it easily came out of the man's mouth made Laerda wonder what Chronos did. After all if they did do a thorough search they certainly would find the stolen goods.

What she did not know whas that Chronos actually labeled all creates, with neat forms that seemed to have explenations that they had been confiscated from space pirates.

Only the egg had not been put in one.

''Please be careful with the room having 103 on the door. There is a creature in there that must not leave the ship. If it does well. It will be a hard catching it.'' Ellis said feeling Laerda swaying

Keeping her grip on the woman, the Flameling made sure not to let Laerda fall to the floor. At Ellis's words, she nodded. "It's best for the creature to stay where she's at. You might frighten her unintentionally."

Evadne's aura projected a sense of calm as always, so the guards should no doubt feel it as well. Not to mention the obvious glow about her was very noticeable. She did wonder what the guards would do if they found the stolen goods. However the star was not involved in any of that, but she also did not want any violence to erupt from the findings either.

The guards hardly seemed to care for Evadne's presence, but whether that was a professional disregard for race, or her calming aura, was yet to be seen. However, a few of the guards seemed to relax a bit, while others seemed to stay hard-faced.

However, at the mention of something living in one of the rooms, and after frequent mentions not to go in there, the lead guard blipped on his communicator, and spoke into it a bit more. The conversation went back and forth, and then the lead guard turned to face them again.

"What is this creature?" the guard asked, and he motioned for Evadne and Laerda to pass, although his eyes remained on Chronos.

''A phoenix hatchling.  Confiscated from space pirates we met a while back. The egg hatched a few days ago.'' Chronos replued calmly. He had heard how to lie and how to do it well like the rest of the crew in order not to give way their boss.

''We do not know the original owner but when we find out we will be sure to return his or her property.''

When given the okay to proceed, Evadne helped Laerda along the corridors, following whatever guard or guards would lead them to the infirmary. The Star had no reason yet to believe the others were a threat but she remained observative nonetheless, also trying to memorize the route they were taking.

"It'll be alright." she tried to reassure the woman. "I'll stay nearby if needed."

The ship was indeed huge, passing through quite a few passageways and closed doors as they slowly walked to where Laerda could get medical treatment. For Laerda's sake, Evadne hoped it wouldn't be too much longer.

Two guards peeled off from the group meeting them at the shuttle bay, and escorted Evadne and Laerda through the lavish halls of The Anastasia, and to the infirmary. Indeed, it was a bit of a journey due to the ship's layout, but the view on the way there wasn't that bad.

And, as Evadne memorized the route to the infimary, she'd notice other things, too:

Ceiling turrets.

Of course, they weren't deployed, little more than brass, engraved domes placed around to give complete coverage of the vessel, but the fact that the shi had them installed might set off a few red flags for The Star.

----

Meanwhile, at the shuttle bay, the lead guard sighed, as if dealing with this shit was the last thing he wanted to do, and nodded.

Needless to say, the calmness of Chronos' delivery wasn't really helping in the light of his story, which seemed to get stranger and stranger.

"Do you have a means to transport it?"

''Not really. I think I have a cage laying around somewhere but catching it will most likely be tricky. It is fond of the two women though so when either of those two are back they can take it out.'' Chronos suggested.''I can see if I xan find the cage in the ship. Or if you have one laying about it is fine too.

Laerda for as far as she was aware of what was in the ship and how massive it was, she was impressed.''compliments to the owner of the ship. Not only generous but one of the most amazing ships I ever laid eyes on. You do not happen to still need mechanics do you?'' She asked.

As they walked along the hallways and winding corridors, Evadne's eyes traveled up, noticing the ceiling turrets. A little concerned but she said nothing, but did wonder for a bit why the ship needed lookout towers installed even if they weren't currently in use. Many reasons flooded through her mind then at this, wondering what it could mean.

Returning her attention back down and ahead of them, she continued to help guide Laerda along, and also wondered why Ellis hadn't been allowed to come with them. It would certainly make the going easier.

At the woman's comment, she replied. "Yes, the ship is indeed impressive. We shall definitely have to thank the owner for their hospitality."

Looking back up again at the brass ceiling towers, Evadne frowned a bit again, but focused on her current task of helping Laerda walk through the ship to the medical chamber. Right now, that was far more important than what the ceiling contained.

The guards escorting Laerda  and Evadne shrugged their shoulders. One of them, which had the translator collar, spoke up.

"We just might. You'll have to talk to the boss."

When they arrived at the small clinic, Laerda was taken from Evadne's hands and set down in a bed. She was given oxygen to help her recover, and was told there'd be food as well, to help her regain strength.

One of the guards with them laid a hand on Evadne's shoulder to get her attention.

"They need you back at your ship. Something about a baby Phoenix that needs transporting."

------

Back at the hangar, the guard nodded, and looked at Chronos.

"Your friend's coming back to transport the baby phoenix. You will wait here in the meantime."

Nodding, Evadne turned to go back the way they had come, following the guard who had informed her. But not before bidding Laerda a brief goodbye, saying she would come back to check on her later. Going back through the long, sleek corridors, Evadne arrived back to where they had first boarded the larger ship. She noted Chronos was there and passed him by without a word, only a brief nod of the head to acknowledge him.

Then she followed the route back to room 103 where the others were likely to have gathered to try and capture the phoenix hatchling. The door to the room was closed and the others stood by with a cage in their hands right outside it.

"I shall go inside first to calm her and let her know not to fear anything." Evadne spoke. She listened for a moment to see if she could hear the fire bird moving around.

Walking into the room, Evadne spoke in a calming tone to the baby fire bird. "Aeria, sweetie, we need you to come with us to the other ship. Everything will be fine, do not worry. The confinement will only be temporary. Everything will be fine." she repeated those last words in Star-Speak, to help the comforting message sink in better.

The Star saw that the guards had their guns loaded and aimed, and she thought that was wholly unnecessary, but did not comment on her opinion. It might only serve to frighten the bird and nothing more but the Flameling did what she knew best to ease any discomfort or terror.

"Come Aeria, you are safe with me." Again saying this in Star-Speak.

Aeria let out a yawn and gave an exited sound that was between a purr and tjirp. Calmly making her way to Evadne. The door was open though which peaked her curiosity causing the baby phoenix to hop off from the bed onto the floor to get a better look on what was on the other side soon standing between Evadne and those well. What she would considder now as weird things since all she had seen right now were humanoids. Perhaps it was good though she did not understood the concept of guns and after a suprising sounding tjirp Earia figured to hide with one of the two she saw as a  parent, quickly rushing to Evadne.

When the guards saw that, in fact, it was an adorable baby phoenix and not some kind of beast or ambush, they lowered their weapons. Some of them even smiled, for phoenixes were nothing if not warm, and Drakkons, being cold blooded, pursued sources of warmth like an addict pursued drugs.

"Come on, then," the lead guard said.

"You and your vessel will be searched now, but don't worry, it won't take long. You seem like honest enough people."

Opening her arms, Evadne picked up the baby phoenix and held her close, comfortingly stroking her soft red feathers. There would be no need for the cage as it were. She began to walk out of the room with the rest of them, fire bird in her arms, holding Aeria lovingly like a mother would. Talking softly to her.

Evadne wasn't sure what the Drakkon guards would do when they found the hidden goods, but recalling Chronos' confidence from before, she surmised the man had some kind of plan already concocted. Whether or not the guards saw through this remained to be seen.

Aeria purred contendly although could not refrain looking curious at the Drakkon guards. Still curious. Outside of the room though the baby phoenix had to sneeze causing a few flames to come from her beak.

The sparks from the flames landed on Evadne's arms and instead of burning her, as she was fire itself, it simply glistened and melted into her skin as though it had found a similar foundation, a common ground for it to meld into. Her arms also seemed to glow brighter than the rest of her body for a couple seconds in time. The Flameling continued to softly coo at Aeria as they made their way out.
