“Some legends are told, some turn to dust or to gold.”

THE HAVINA COPPERHEADS
Gold Team

I. About the Copperheads

The Havina Copperheads are not merely the winningest squadron in the history of the Games, they are an elite squadron specializing in reconnaissance, although publicly their squad function is tactics and special ops training. This public facade is easily maintained since only the training and administrative members of the squadron are publicly known. The ‘faceless’ members, Pilots who when associating with or in an official capacity are acting on behalf of or in conjunction with the Copperheads are in specialized uniform that obscures their face, are believed to be ‘trainees’. In the official record trainees are Cardinals who require more specialized training to better be utilized in other squadrons or specialized positions. They are widely believed to be a bootcamp squad where the best Pilots are forged.

In actuality, the Copperheads do not function like a true squadron. Most of the actual members (operatives) do not know each other, even if they have worked together on missions. Most of the faceless that are seen training in public are not even in the Copperheads, same goes for the ones who participate in the squadron games. All actual operatives go by codenames, their Pilot files sealed and only in paper form in archives until they are decommissioned from the Copperheads or are promoted to the training and administrative branch of the squadron. Most members are only in the squadron for a few years, when they then ‘graduate candidacy’ in official records and join other squadrons or fields.

II. Objectives

-Infiltrate and observe enemies in their territory to recover or gain military strategy or information.
-Dismantle any immediate threats to Aedolis.
-Do not get discovered.

III. The Copperheads Want You (but maybe not you)

The ideal candidate for the Copperheads is loyal but malleable. They know their objectives and do not question orders, but they are able to blend into enemy territory seemlessly. This often requires less stealth and more empathy. The ideal operative becomes part of the society / group / military they are infiltrating. They can strip away their real personality and fit into the role they need to play. Strong psionic abilities are rarely ideal for this squadron, more subdued and unnoticeable abilities are prefered so that operatives are not easily identified as psychics. All Copperheads go through secret intensive training and are thoroughly bonded to their dragons in a way that exceeds Network addiction. Copperheads can spend extended periods of time off planet on assignment and their dragons have to approve them for operative status after their unwavering loyalties have been proven.

V. Squad Roles

Unlike the structure of most squadrons the Copperheads are broken into groups based on their function in the squadron. Every member of the Copperheads has to be able to function as a one person army, while still retaining their loyalty to their squadron and to Aedolis.

Administration and Training-

This is the public side of the Copperheads, the ones that do PR work and people (public and Pilots alike) know and recognize. While intense training and conditioning of operatives is definitely a large part of the Admin and Training team’s job, they also act as handlers for operatives in the field.

Operatives-

Operatives in the field, once cleared for assignment status, can fall into various classifications, solo operatives, partnered operatives, short term assignments, and long term assignments. The status of an operatives classifications can change at any time and do not denote rank. Burnout among Copperhead operatives is extremely high with operatives usually only lasting a few years in the field before they are promoted to Admin/Training or are decommissioned from the Copperheads and ‘graduate from Candidacy’ on official records, joining another specialization, sometimes another Squadron. If an operative dies on the field their official record will state they were TRIM’d from Candidacy.

Trainees-

The ones known as the ‘Faceless’. All fresh out of Candidacy, the Faceless undergo general training that is used to weed out actual potentials for the squadron. These are the Pilots people see the Copperheads training staff working with, and most of these Pilots will never actually be Copperheads themselves. Some of these Pilots do go on to join other squadrons instead, others go into other Pilot specializations.
