Ero Pyxis; Frontier Wanderer
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:06:04 pm »
BASIC INFORMATION

Full name: Ero Pyxis [Ear – ohh, Pik – sis]
Alias: Compass
Gender: Male
Age: 127
Height: 6’5”
Build: Beanpole
Race: Starstrider Elf, House Horizon
Sexuality: ? ? ?
Nationality: Edani
Residence: The Frontier

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

A long, wild mane of hair so dark it seems like it tries to swallow light is the most immediate feature to notice, and typically is kept tied back into a ponytail with a simple leather cord. The next most noticeable is probably a toss-up between his very dark blue-gray skin and the fact that his eyes are three shades of glowing blue. All of this assumes he hasn’t opened his mouth, because the flesh and gums are nearly the same shade as his skin, and his teeth are also dark instead of white.

Because of his birth-giver being from House Archernar, Ero stands quite tall next to many humans, but not as outrageously tall as some of the other Starstriders. Height is about all he’s got too, because the Horizon is all lankly limbs and no bulk with his narrow and delicate frame. Clothes are practical and well-worn; jeans, t-shirts, a leather duster, boots, his trusty goggles and a bandana for when the wind blows up lots of dust. He definitely looks the part of a frontier drifter.

PERSONALITY

Despite his long years Ero is barely more than a child, and it shows through a combination of boundless energy and unquenchable curiosity. He wants to see, hear, touch, and learn everything. Yes, he has a mild obsession for all things space and star-related, but it doesn’t hold back his desire to practically absorb every bit of knowledge he possibly can. The one thing he doesn’t seem to have any inclination to know is the identity of his Opo – a man who is long dead anyway.

Aside from the intellectual side of his personality the heart, or hearts, lean towards being good-natured and amicable. Yes, he has learned to try not to get attached to the humans around him, but Ero would never intentionally bring harm to someone else, and typically will compassionately reach out to help others when he is able.

SKILLS

Ero grew up in a mostly self-sustaining settlement that focused primarily on agriculture out of necessity, and given his species’ slow growth rate he had a lot longer to pick up skills than any of his peers. Despite his wanderlust, he is good at the skills you would need to establish and maintain a homestead like extensive knowledge on growing crops and livestock husbandry.

Learning to survive alone on the Frontier also has taught him plenty of survival skills that he picked up through a combination of trial and error as well as advice from other frontiersmen.

His favorite skillset by far is his extensive knowledge of space, constellations, navigation, and stars. Astronomy has been his passion since he was old enough to begin questioning anything at all. Not exactly his most useful ability currently, but it does help him always find his way home to his Bibi.

After all that you get the typical elf stuff like better senses and agility.

RELATIONSHIPS

Rio Pyxis: His beloved Bibi! They have a great but somewhat gloomy relationship, as they both know that Rio is slowly succumbing to his heartbreak at losing his resonance now that Ero is grown and no longer at all dependent on him.

BACKSTORY

The first and foremost piece of Ero’s past is the fact that he was born out of resonance, and therefore born to House Horizon. It bothers him not in the slightest that his birth was not the product of his Bibi’s love for his Opo, because his Bibi loves him and that is all that matters. In fact, Ero neither knows the identity of his sperm donor parent nor does he care to know. The man was long dead by the time he was even old enough to start questioning or caring about his missing parent.

Ero was born and raised on the Edani Frontier within a small, and not the most terribly technologically advanced, settlement called Red Spring. There were no fancy magitech towers nearby to supply them with anything beyond the rudimentary mechanical advancements of non-magic tech. They had the equipment to keep their small farms and ranches running, and some of the population had vehicles. Beyond that they did get shipments to a few small stores, but for the most part it was a very simple life of shaping the Frontier into something that provided for their community as best they could.

Rio and Ero were the only two Starstriders living in the settlement, and Ero doesn’t know why his Bibi decided to live there, although he could probably guess now. It did mean growing up was somewhat lonely. All the other children quickly outgrew him or hadn’t yet grown into his maturity level, so there was a great deal of him watching other children quickly outpace him, have children of their own, and eventually die.

He’s learned not to get too attached to humans because of this.

Even from a young age Ero was obsessed with stars and space. His Bibi couldn’t teach him enough about astronomy to possibly satisfy him. They always knew that he was going to be a wanderer when he got old enough, because even as a toddler he possessed boundless energy, curiosity, and a need to explore and push and test all boundaries.

That’s why it was no surprise when he finally reached what humans would consider that awkward late teenage phase that he simply…wandered off. Of course he felt bad later, for not really talking it through with his poor Bibi, but he couldn’t really help himself. He was only gone a couple days, but each time he leaves he wanders father and for longer now, but they both have operating phones so that they can remain in touch so his Bibi doesn’t have to worry – and so Ero doesn’t have to fret quite as much either because he knows that the end is coming.

Of course simply wandering the Edani Frontier isn’t really enough for Ero, because the older he gets, the more intense his longing to reach the stars themselves. He doesn’t know what, exactly, is out there in space that he wants so badly, but he knows that if he never goes he’ll never find out!
