Lady and the Tramp [Silvermistshadow!]
« on: September 16, 2012, 03:41:39 pm »
Why the hell did he get stuck with jobs like this. You’d think after years of bending over and taking it, they’d get tired of screwing you…he’d be stuck in the damned city for another week at least, and he was already just about to crawl out of his skin as it was. Too crowded, too stiff, too full of unnecessary posh. He’d take the wild and rough frontier over this any day of the week - unfortunately he was a whipped damn dog and he had to do as he was ordered.

So now he was standing at the dock, arms crossed over his broad chest and a scowl on his gruff face, waiting for some mage chick from outer space. He had to escort her about, as was necessary for all visiting mages, at least until she got tired of looking at shit and went on her merry way. Maybe then he’d be able to escape to the dirt fields for awhile…shoot some idiot outlaws and work out his stresses in a brawl. That sounded mighty nice right about then.

Bah, well, may as well get it over with…whenever the blasted lady shows up.

There was some anticipation on the ship as it entered the atmosphere of Edanith, the cultural curiosity of much of the crew apparent. It left a red streak in the sky for only a moment before it was slowed to acceptable speeds in part due to its engines, which did not give any audible hints of their presence, even as it settled in the dock. The bottom deck of the smooth vessel cracked open, a blue interior in contrast to the blackness on the outside. For now, only Misaki would be leaving the vessel. She had took some time to try and study the fashion of the planet, and had replicated some acceptable clothes, in a lighter blue than that of the underarmor she always had on. They were still practical, as her culture did not particularly enjoy clothing that was too cumbersome, even for formal occasions.

She stepped into the dock fairly quickly, aware that her escort was already waiting from the images from the inside of the airlock, going over to meet him. He looked fairly irritated, and thus she decided to be mostly serious with him. "It's clear you don't like this job, so I'll try not to make it worse." Her expression was neutral, she waited for him to lead them.. somewhere.

“….” Well fuck him, he’d not been expecting THAT response. Sort of took the oomph out of his anger when she put it that way. Both eyebrows arched slowly at her, stormy gray-blue eyes giving her a considering once over, as if he might reconsider his original stance.
At least she was wearing blue. Should be a good sign.
Grunting, he rubbed at the stubble on his face before shrugging as if resigning himself to his fate.

“Awright, I appreciate the thought then miss. Ain’t really you that’s got me worked up, jus’ this place that drives me nutters. I’m Mikko Lahti, hope it’s nice to meet you, as I’ll be escortin’ you around for the remainder of your stay.”
He held out a large, calloused hand to her for a proper greeting - crazy lizard lady or not, ya just didn’t go around introducing yourself without a good handshake. And she had better introduce herself, or he might just start calling her ‘Lizard Gal’.

She observed his reactions calmly. Her words had had exactly the disarming effect she had hoped for. The art of using the right words at the right time was another thing often studied in her homeworld's military, especially those in her particular branch.

The next thing, his hand held out, she also recognized. Careful reconnaissance of cultures was always done before formal introductions, not during or after. Thus she knew to reach out as well, taking the man's hand and shaking it firmly, but not too firmly. "I'm Misaki." That was her 'second name', the name used in public, the one given at the age of six rather than birth. The first name was rarely mentioned outside of family and close friends.

She followed that up with, "It's good to meet you." before there was any noticeable gap between that sentence and the last.

She wasn't entirely certain which name she'd be using for him, her study of humans indicated the last name was also more formal here, but she had to be careful not to seem too formal and distant. The delicate art of the right words in the right place required careful study, especially when visiting other cultures.

“Misaki eh? Alright, I’ll be sure to remember it.”
By the time he released her hand, he seemed to have shaped up. It was as if he was undergoing a conscientious change, standing a bit straighter, the drawl all but gone from his voice. May as well get into proper work mode after all…she seemed a proper lady, with some slight air of importance to her. And really, there was no reason to go being rude to her just because he was miffed. Just wasn’t polite.

“So where did you want to go first Misaki? I’m just your escort, as per law and all that, so you can go about your business as you like - you’ll just have a large shadow following you around.”
He had no desire to disrupt her plans, whatever they were. So long as she behaved herself, he had no reason to object.

She placed her hand back at her side when it was released, observing the man's change in stance and apparent attitude while he spoke his next sentence. She seemed to think for a moment. "I wanted to see one of the places mages train in around here first." She wanted to observe for herself how exactly mages trained here. Plus she might actually meet some of them. Or even demonstrate a bit of her own abilities.

The gruff Mordecai couldn’t help the slight arching of a brow. Training facility, eh? Well, at least it was something he had more than enough experience with. And it wouldn’t hurt to act as a guide as well, he supposed.
“Alright, I can do that. This way then.”
With no unnecessary flair, he simply turned and assumed his charge to be following as he led the way out of the docks and out into the too-crowded (at least in his opinion) streets of the city. Though there was a great deal of architecture and gardening to be seen along the way, he did not bother to pause or to extrapolate on any of it. His gait was brisk, long legs eating up sidewalk, although he seemed accustomed to walking with people with a much shorter stride - thus, he managed not to leave Misaki behind.

Finally they came upon a pristine building, which happened to be one of his favored training facilities. The interior was a far cry less crowded than the busy streets. There was a sparse faculty and mages moving between areas, and finally Mikko stopped.
“Well, this’s it. Got rooms to train your body, rooms to train your power, and rooms to…train your mind or some such. Meditation, and all that. S’long as I’m with you, we should be alright to look into any of the rooms you want, so long as we don’t bother the mages and Mordecai overmuch. I don’t know how interested you are, but if I spot a mage I know I can always call em over so you can talk.”

She followed closely behind, observing the architecture and gardening along the way, while managing not to get lost or even bump into anyone along the way. Then they entered the interior of their destination. She listened while he explained the areas there were and stuff. She meanwhile also observed the area around her. Someone caught her interest toward the end of Mikko's explanation. White hair, a tail and unusual feet were some more obvious features of the one she was observing, along with the fact that she wore bright colors and had tan skin. Misaki decided it'd be rude to stare and not introduce herself, so she nodded at her escort and moved toward the girl she had spotted. "Hi, I'm Misaki." She greeted upon reaching a socially acceptable distance.

Curious as to what Misaki had already caught onto, he turned to follow her path with his eyes, and it ended on one petite, brightly colored young mage he knew quite well. Ah, Jinx was it? Well, she did tend to stand out and draw attention…
He followed quietly behind the visitor, shadowing without bothering to interfere just yet. After all, the lady seemed keen on introducing herself.

Speaking of her bright outfit, today it was a pair of pale lilac purple short-shorts, with a clingy white sleeveless top that had darker purple whispy decals. A pair of white leggings started at her ankle and traveled up to her thighs - no shoes of course, her paw like feet did not really take well to that sort of thing! Jinx started slightly at the voice, turning around quickly to meet whoever it was talking to her. She blinked up at the stranger, but was already smiling brightly.
“Hi!”
She then easily spotted Mikko’s large form behind Misaki, and her smile jumped up a notch as she waved at him enthusiastically with a petite hand.
“Hi Mikko! Is this a new mage? It’s nice to meet you Misaki! You can call me Jinx!” She shifted attention from the Mordecai back to the newcomer without  missing a beat, tail swaying slowly behind her.

Mikko grunted lightly in response, tipping his head to her in his usual low-key greeting.
“Nah, she’s a visiting mage. Mind your manners and all that.”
“Of course!”

She looked more closely at the girl's outfit now, but her eyes quickly returned to Jinx's face. Misaki smiled back. This one certainly was excitable. "It's nice to meet you too, Jinx." She wasn't certain anyone would want to be called that, given the word's meaning, but the girl had said to use it. "Your outfit is nice. I went for something that'd blend in when I made mine, but I'm just not familiar with fashion locally." It was a compliment, or at least she tried to make it sound like a compliment. She had made it, in some sense. A design on a computer, and then atoms rearranged to create it, so not exactly by her, since the replicator was a machine.

“Aw, thank you!” Jinx did a little curtsy, oblivious to Misaki’s thoughts on her name. Then again, the visitor was not far off - indeed, she’d been called jinx by way of it’s definition. But rather than be bothered or ashamed of it, she’d chosen it as her actual name.
Besides, it was what her parents called her, so one way or another she ought to own it. If only as a reminder of what once was.
And then her pale green eyes opened rather wide.
“You made that? Really? That’s so neat! I think you did a good job! Oh but if you wanted to see other fashions and things, I can take you to the places I shop! You can get a real good idea from window shopping!”
Her tail was waving faster now, and it was pretty obvious that she was excited just by the mere thought of getting to go shopping with her new ‘friend’.
Her head then popped up to look at Mikko again.
“Is that okay?”
“Eh? Whatcha askin’ me for? I’m just her escort, and I ain’t got no say in what you do in your off-hours.”

She quietly repeated the same motions as Jinx had for a curtsey, not mocking her, simply not wanting to be too formal with it. If the girl wasn't bothered by the name, then Misaki had no reason to be either. She observed the girl a bit more, noting her posture, eye color, and such details that she could now. She did find Jinx attractive, but she wasn't about to say it out loud yet. They weren't even friends yet, though this was a great start.

She couldn't tell Jinx anything about the technology on her ship, so she'd have to act like she'd made it with her hands. She smiled a bit and nodded, observing the girl some more before actually speaking. "Alright, let's go then, Jinx. Lead on." Misaki would definitely follow her, the girl's cheerful and friendly personality was infectious. Though Misaki wouldn't bounce around as much.

“Great!” Jinx literally hopped gleefully, fist in the air, as both parties involved agreed to her plan. It wasn’t quite as fun as actual shopping, but it would still be a good outing!
“Ok, this way guys!”
Tufted tail still waving out behind her, she turned on dainty paws and lead them out of the store. She had a very delicate, graceful way of moving, though it was somewhat lost by the little happy bounce she had in her step. Clearly it wasn’t very hard to get her enthusiastic.
Mikko seemed 100% used to it, following along behind the two with his thumbs hooked into his pockets idly. There were increasingly large swarms of people as they hit the shopping district of the city, but Jinx moved in and out of the throngs easily. Mikko, on the other hand, was displeased - and the intensity of his scowl and body language seemed to help get most people out of his way.
“Here we go! Lots of neat boutiques along this street! You can get a pretty good idea of the different fashions and styles just from going store to store. Hey Mikko, I bet we could find you a bunch more blue things to wear too!”
Mikko grunted.
“Stuff it pipsqueak.”
Instead of offended, Jinx giggled in amusement, earning a crooked half grin from Mikko.

She watched with a smile as Jinx displayed her happiness at her agreement to this outing. She followed calmly, all of her movements had a sense of purpose,  they were exact and well paced. She flowed through the crowds like a river around a stone, or a river around many stones. Either way. They arrived soon enough, and Misaki listened as Jinx spoke, and then watched their reactions as her and Mikko interacted. It seemed the two understood each other pretty well. She walked around a bit to observe the stores, taking in the details, subtly using her wrist computer to take scans of some of the items. It seemed more like she was looking at the time than typing something into an invisible device. She paced it well so that it didn't seem like she was obsessed with some schedule or something.

Jinx bounced around Misaki like an excited puppy, eager to share her love of fashion.
“Did you know blue is a lucky color? Or well, so says Mikko. Says it’s the luckiest color there is, and he ALWAYS wears a blue shirt. Like, always. But who knows, maybe it’s true? There are a lot of blue outfits in these stores…”
As they made their way down the street, Jinx would intermittently point out various objects in the windows. Ah but she could only stand so much window shopping before wanting to go in and do actual shopping!
“Hey, maybe we can go in and try some stuff on! It’s kind of amazing how different something can look when it’s on you, as compared to when it’s on a mannequin you know? It’s crazy!”
Mikko seemed content to stay well out of Jinx’s eager speech about fashion. He was a shirt and pants guy. Apart from his fondness for blue (yeah, it was true, what of it) he didn’t really have any preferences. Jinx, on the other hand, probably had dozens of outfits. She was like a tiny doll or something.

((Haven't posted in forever. Hopefully I'll be better from now on.))

Misaki continued to observe Jinx and listen quietly. This was going to be an interesting adventure. She observed the different fashions in the windows while they walked. Learning about other cultures was always interesting. She nodded slightly at Jinx's suggestion that they go and try stuff on. She wasn't sure if she could come up with an acceptable form of currency here though. All she had to trade was protons and energy.

"Yeah, sounds good." She was content to try on some outfits from this planet, since the other girl was so eager to do so. Additional knowledge of the fashion of this planet could lead to knowledge of other things too. And knowledge overall was a good thing.
