The Truth; exploration vessel

Ship Description

The Truth is a small, five-deck ship of around 215 meters in length. Its design makes it resemble a smooth black shield. The greatest width is at the engines, after which it curves inward until it reaches the front of the ship, which is rounded, yet still has an edge. The height of the vessel follows the same pattern. It is generally wider than it is long. The bridge is in the very center of the ship, where it is shielded by the most armor and surrounded by the rest of the ship’s components. The ship does not have windows in the traditional sense; however, the outer hull allows them to see light from any point around the ship.

Space is conserved efficiently, the vessel often seems to fit more than should be possible without actually being dimensionally transcendental. (That technology is only used on larger ships that can afford the power drain, that is, the ship has to start out being larger and then have the technology added.)

The power generators and main engines are in the back of the ship. Small thrusters are indented all over the ship, with multiple redundant thrusters for each axis.

Its weapons are hidden within the hull in most situations. These include four antimatter cannons, two for the front of the ship and the others facing the back, sixteen point-defense laser systems (in ultraviolet, eight for the top and bottom half, four each for forward and back), and a spatial torpedo system on the front. Its armor is comprehensive, totaling seven meters in every direction, made of multiple materials including tungsten, titanium, depleted uranium and lead, but also includes several layers of neutron mediating materials such as water, among others. An electromagnetic field is emitted just inches from the surface to keep any external radiation the shields do not catch out.

The shield itself is much heavier than normal for a ship of its class, as the vessel is designed to survive without any outside support for years on end. It can withstand the intense heat and pressure of the subsurface of a star, not enough to go to the core of any main sequence star, but enough to allow them to hide beneath the outer surface of a star from other, less well equipped vessels. The shields have seven layers, with the frequencies constantly rotating, only stopping for long enough for the ship to fire its own weapons.

The main engine contains two propulsion methods; one manipulates local gravitational fields to propel the ship or even just hold it in place, and the other uses antimatter propulsion. Naturally, it does not use the antimatter propulsion on or near planets, as the temperatures directly behind the engine resemble those generated by nuclear weapons, and would thus present a danger to anything within a certain range of the ship.

Most of the time, the interior of the ship would look completely dark to any human visitor, as infrared lighting is used instead of visible light. Still, the inside is a contrast to the outside. A blue color is used for most of the ship’s interior, with other colors marking private or hazardous areas of the ship. Each crew member does get to customize their quarters. The quarters are to the aft of the bridge, each fairly small but comfortable. The hydroponics lab sits in front of the bridge, and is where food is grown, so that more energy intensive methods are saved for emergencies. As well, the plants constitute one of the main parts of the life support system. The hydroponics lab is one of a few areas that are usually lit by light in the visual spectrum.

On the deck below the bridge, the majority of the science-related rooms are kept. Here there are sections for the keeping and observation of simple life from other worlds. As well, the medical bay is situated here, toward the back of the ship. While the facilities were designed for Altair, they can be adapted to aid other species as well.

The lowest deck of the ship contains the armory and landing ramp. Despite its mass, the vessel’s engine allows it to land on most planets. It also contains the docking hatches and other airlocks. Guest quarters, less customizable than the crew quarters but just as large, are also included down here. The recreation area of the vessel is just behind these. Guests can generally only access their quarters and the recreation area without an escort; the doors will refuse to open without someone on the other side authorizing it.

The deck immediately above the bridge contains the secondary interfaces for the weapon systems. Each weapon can be taken manual control of from here, including the point defense weapons. However, the weapons are incapable of dealing direct damage to the ship itself, as their angles prevent their line of fire from intersecting the ship itself.

The highest deck on the ship contains the main computer as well as other essential systems. Access to this deck is restricted to the command staff of the ship.

The engineering section, containing the power generators and the engine, runs the height of the very back of the ship, and is accessible from all but the very top and bottom decks. Stairs, elevators and ladders allow access to different levels, much the same as the rest of the ship.

Crew Description/Expectations

Though they may acquire a crew member from any of the worlds in its mission system, it is rare that these are allowed access to ship systems. Generally, the crew is entirely Altair. As the Altair are a society of unity, there is little room for letting personal issues get in the way of work. As well, the ship is a military ship, so disputes are expected to be resolved peacefully.

Crew
There is room for 25 crew on the ship, as well as 5 guests.  The life support systems can handle an additional 10 for a few days.
Captain: Kadae Misaki
((I’ll think about the other positions some more. Feel free to apply for ones you think might be needed though. Stowaways may find it difficult to get on or navigate the ship, but it could happen.))
