Pavla watched with her flat brown eyes, feeling the others in the room more than seeing them. It gave her the chance to appreciate how resourceful Shiloh was in coming up with a way to restrain all the delinquents in the room.
But on that note…what about their mark?
Still breathing softly through her mouth, uncaring of the blood cooling on her face, she reached out with her power. The empathic wave spread softly outward, like a tingling along the spine, as she felt and experienced everyone’s feelings.
It was not pleasant, as most of them were scared witless. She anchored herself instead to Shiloh, who was rather calm and cool in that sea of panic. He’d probably feel it, if not know what it was, the sensation of her empathy grabbing hold of his emotions.
She let it keep spreading, searching out, through the building, and then out further, around it, further still.

There was a disappointing lack of human feedback. All at once she let the empathy fade off.
“There are no other signs of humanoid life in the vicinity. I suggest we turn this group over to local authorities, and return to base for a debriefing. I do not believe the target is in the area any longer. Is this acceptable, Cardinal Lockwood?”

It was an odd, subtle sensation that washed over him, and Shiloh shrugged his shoulders in response, just a slight lift and fall. While not an empath, any Pilot would have been trained to recognize different kinds of psychic feedback, the better to guard oneself against a hostile. Reflexively, he prodded back and then relaxed; it was only Pavla.

He had paused a second when he felt it, but as she spoke, he went back to tying up the other kids. When he was done, he straightened back up, brushed his hands together as though clearing them of dust, and was about to respond when it sank in.

Is this acceptable, Cardinal Lockwood?

His lips parted and he stared at Pavla with raised eyebrows.

She, his superior by several ranks, was asking him. She was asking for his thoughts, trusting in his opinion, and not for the first time this mission! And she was doing it with the same deadpan voice and expression, not the slightest hint of irony or sarcasm or teasing. Just the same voice and expression she'd always used, without fluctuation.

Was that...respect? A Royal respected him? Him?

Color rushed to his cheeks unbidden and he cleared his throat and looked back to the kids he'd bound. He scratched at the back of his ear. "I, uh, er...yeah? I mean, yeah! Sounds good! Uh, acceptable!"

To give himself a distraction so he didn't yet have to look at her, and to give himself time to compose himself until he didn't sound so much like a backwater idiot, he hauled what he assumed was the "leader" of the gang (or at least, the kid with the gun) to his feet and shoved him forward. Goddamn. He'd spent so long getting insulted, he wasn't sure how to handle a compliment. Though, was that even a compliment? Not really. Not in actual words. But the fact that she trusted him sure as fuck felt like one.

He yanked the other criminals to their feet. "No funny moves, punkass. C'mon, get walkin'."

As he passed by Pavla, he paused and gave her a sympathetic look. By then, the blush had, thankfully, faded. "Erm, sorry 'bout yer nose, sir."

Though his answer had been proceeded by a lengthy pause, and though he stuttered, she accepted it without batting an eyelash. For the sake of his privacy, she did not probe his emotions and thus did not pick up on the great deal of embarrassment.
“Understood.”
She then helped him to usher the bound delinquents out of the decrepit room, keeping her empathy loose and flowing, easily grazing the emotions of their temporary prisoners. Any spikes in anger or fear were usually followed by attempts to bolt or struggle, but she felt her strategy sufficient for detecting and reacting quickly.

She turned her even gaze on her partner as he paused near her. As if she had forgotten, she reached up toward the blood that had made it’s way down her mouth to her chin. Dropping her hand, she turned and moved to walk along side him with sure footed strides.
“Do not be concerned Cardinal Lockwood, it is a trivial injury.”
She did not at all blame him, things happened in the line of duty. A busted nose was hardly something to worry over considering all the alternatives.
