Zalerox has retained some of his natural coloring, being primarily a near-black in color with a few rows of dots along the lowest section of his back leg and on the front. His chest plates lighten to a silvery coloring along the edges. Zalerox, though, has had a few modifications. For one, he has been given glowing, color-changing ring patterns along the sides of his body, spanning from his neck to some way down his tail. As part of an experiment, the rings were adjusted so that they change color at will, but normally change depending on how healthy he is (blue is fine, green is sick, yellow wounded, red in critical condition), though they do this on their own in that case. It was an experiment to use signals to communicate in battle, so the rings can flash in different patterns, telling others in a unit what to do based on these patterns. Zalerox hasn’t been able to use them for that purpose much, though.

Because the ability to fire homing lasers is artificial, he has a machine behind his head that produces them, as well as targeting systems in his eyes. His wings are entirely cybernetic. Though made to look real, if one were to take it apart, they would see artificial “flesh” that appears gray, minus the blood running through it. The pits in his wings produce energy that allows him to lift off and steer merely by tilting his wings. Blue shafts of light, almost looking like feathers, are generated by the pits. The tubes that run on his body contain cooling liquids that can help cool down both muscles and machinery, though the intricate system is separate from that of his blood. As well, there is a lubricating liquid that runs to the machinery in Zalerox’s body, but he does have systems in place that will repair internal leaks of lubricant and coolant as well as neutralize it when needed. Grooves running along his body also produce lasers that almost look like modified scales, triangular in appearance. Mostly, they function as slicing weapons. The cords in front of his arms are flexible and able to function much like a human hand, finely manipulating objects, and are also able to retract back into his body so they don’t get in the way.

Personality
For a dragon, Zalerox isn’t too bad. Well, depending on one’s opinion, but he seems to have a better nature than quite a few other dragons that are part of the hive. He’s a bit of an extrovert who would gladly socialize with the citizens of Aedolis. Heck, even the tourists are fair game, though he dislikes Edani for obvious reasons. Zalerox has even gone to the point where he will even psychically control a small, mechanical, dragon body built by Vekai so he can get to places that he couldn’t naturally go. He prefers speaking vocally because he feels it is a more “natural” way to speak.

Of course, he does occasionally show that mechanical and cold attitude that dragons are prone to showing every once in a while. When angered, he’s more the sort to try to mentally attack someone who has angered him, probing their minds and inserting images of horribly gruesome and disturbing things. Zalerox gets some amusement out of harassing anyone who annoys him.

Like Vekai, he has a somewhat geeky personality, to the point where he has a rather luxurious room dedicated solely to watching TV, surfing the VCN, and playing video games, complete with comfy beanbag chairs and cushions. Zalerox likes to boast about being better than Vekai at certain games, achieving high scores in some, much to the annoyance of his Pilot, though it’s all in good fun (so he says). He will often demand that Vekai play some sort of multi-player game with him or compete to see who gets higher scores. He’s rather close to Vekai, though, and very involved in his life. Magic/Abilities
Excellent telepathic and telekinetic skills, as well as the ability to fire homing lasers from his mouth and lightning (his natural breath weapon).

Relationships
Keeps a good relationship with Vekai, fortunately for the Pilot. Though friends, he is rather demanding of Vekai and will be very involved in his life, though they get along for the most part.


History
Zalerox, like other Aedolian dragons, was once a flesh dragon himself. Of course, Aedolian dragons were always eager to find more flesh dragons that they could convert to be loyal to the hive mind and dedicated to controlling Aedolis. Life in the polluted wilds of Aedolis was hard and dangerous, but Zalerox was successful at first, even if he was living a solitary lifestyle. Then, he was caught by a pair of Aedolian dragons and brought back to Haviah’s labs to be converted into one of them.

Gifted with state of the art technology, Zalerox was immediately released into Haviah, now a cybernetic beast granted new powers and abilities. Still, he retained his old personality, or some of it, at least. Without a bond, he merely practiced with his newfound powers and sharpened up on his natural ones, as per the demands of the higher-ups. He was taught the ropes of being an Aedolian dragon, what was expected of him and all that. He may not have bonded yet, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t not know what to do.

He only spent a few months as a dragon without a Pilot. When fifth stage candidates were presented to him, he knew what to do. As was natural to dragons, he felt the need to bond. Zalerox picked through some, probing their minds to see if they showed traits that he desired. Some minutes of careful analyzation passed, and he finally forged the bond with a candidate named Vekai.

They’ve only been bonded for about a year, but the relationship has been good, as far as Pilot and dragon relations go. Perhaps they were both lucky that they ended up liking each other and getting along like best friends, though, as is normal for dragons, Zalerox controls Vekai, and makes sure that the young Pilot knows that it is the dragon that is in control.
