Ready to cause Trouble (Open!)
« on: February 28, 2009, 06:59:58 pm »
Stella stretched in the cockpit of her ship.  Autopilot had taken control of landing the mid-size freighter, so she allowed her mind to wander as she gazed out at Teinar.  It wasn't much to look at, but she might be able to find a place where she could take a real shower.  Gods, how many days had it been since she had one of those?

Not to mention that her last run had paid rather nicely.  Since she was between jobs right now, maybe she could catch a little R&R.  Well, not too much.  If she was going on a vacation, she wanted it to be somewhere a lot richer than this dump.  But Teinar had been nearby, and she needed somewhere low-profile where she could get more fuel and supplies.

An undrafted psychic in Aedolis was never safe and in Rhyrec's case he was lucky he made it out alive.  For all the Yavarian's innate mental power, there would always be that sudden occasion where he might slip up and get caught.  Or worse yet, be arrested for the few shady stints he did and then be discovered with having mental powers.  If anything, all he wanted were his guns and a smuggler's ship; two out of two wasn't bad at all, even if the former weren't the grade he was looking for.

He brushed a hand through yellow hair as he dragged on his cigarette and eventually put the butt beneath his boot and ground it in the cretesteel of the the Teinar Outpost.  Not one to further damage the environment of the already hopeless Wastelands, he scooped it up and dumped it into a mechanized waste reciprocal.  "Thank you," a feminine automated voice responded as a result of him the ashes within.  He merely saluted to the object, plunged his fists in his coat pockets, and strode casually toward landing pads.

It had been several days since he'd been dropped off at the Outpost by a few smugglers who had no love for the great and mighty Aedolis.  Of course, a few hundred credits thrown their way helped them as much as they did in getting an alien as far away from the capitol of hell as they could while still within their route.  They dropped him and their cargo off on one of the landing pads to the west, showing their proper papers before jetting off again.  Rhyrec didn't mind; that ship was little more than a hunk of junk anyway.

Now all he needed was to get to a Seruna Space Station…except he didn’t have a ship…

Rhyrec focused on the few starcraft coming and going through the access points and did not perceive a Teinar officer approach him from behind.  With a tap on his broad shoulder, he turned around an stared down at the smaller runt of a man, “May I help you?”

“Yeah.  You can show me your pass.”

“Huh?”

“Your pass.  You got a pass, don’t ya?  Can’t be here without one, against the rules.”

“Is that so, huh?”  Rhyrec scratched his chin meditatively before he pivoted and turned in sprint down the corridor.

“Hey!” the officer yelled, barely able to take off in time to see the large humanoid round a corner and off into a crowd of refugees.  His boots pounded against the floor and even as he sped he knew that he couldn’t catch the man.  Oh well, the creature was large enough to stand out even in a pile of aliens.  He’d gather a patrol and search for him later.

Rhyrec was sure he’d lost the officer even as he ducked behind a tank of some liquid.  Still, he didn’t want to be surprised later, so he kept an eye out to his left as he sped walk toward anywhere that wasn’t where he was now.  As it so happened that speed walk made him hit something hard in his head and after a heaving, “Oof!” he found himself knocked backward and on the ground with someone looking down at him.  He reciprocated the gesture only with a grimace and a, "Can't anybody watch where their going?" while rubbing his head.

The boarding ramp hissed and dropped down.  Stella walked down the ramp, inspecting her surroundings as she did so.  The outpost was crawling with all sorts of creatures, all of whom bustled about frantically.  Most of them seemed to be loading or unloading cargo.

She caught sight of a couple of security personell chasing a single large figure.  She watched with interest, wondering who would triumph.  The fugitive seemed to have a large lead.  Still, Stella knew the golden rule about being chased: every second the chase goes on, your pursuers become more organized.  If he didn't escape on a ship soon, the security forces would form a cordon and trap him.

Rhyrec had a knack for resourcefulness, though the same couldn't be said of his whole family who so staunchly stuck to their ways of philosophy and attempting to reach their inner being. When he'd left Yavar he’d done so out of sheer tiredness of his home planet; he was a free spirit by nature and since no one wanted him there he hopped in the nearest star fighter and left the Sancta System as fast as his ion booster could let him.

But now, even he was in a bit of a panic. He pushed the other person aside, a rather easy task considering the size of the alien, and jogged ahead toward the landing bay.  He reached out with his mind, his mental strength growing as he felt the thoughts of others, and concealed his presence.  In a crouch, he snuck up the first open loading ramp he saw, just rubbing against the leg of a woman who stood on it beside him.  In a panic he lost touch with some of the minds and looked up at her as if nothing was wrong; an obvious nervous grin spread across his lips.
