Buzz kill

Three weeks in and Sota was already pulling her hair out (though not literally…yet). She had been expecting the physical demands, a twinge in her right calf made her admit to herself that she had been far from ready for all of the drills and training she had so far been graced with. What she had not been ready for was how long everything took. It would be at least six months before any psychic training would start and an average of five years before she reached the final stage.

Leaning back against the wall of the cafeteria Sota sighed and banged her head against it slightly to try and clear the fuzziness from her head. Never had she been in a place with so many Telepaths and it was starting to grate on her. She couldn’t hear anything being said, her own skills were too weak in that area unless she was trying to read someone close besides most people here were pretty good at keeping their thoughts to themselves. No the problem was that she couldn’t get rid of this sort of back ground hum and it was becoming harder and harder to concentrate. Her Father had always been able to give her a rest from her abilities but now that he and her mother had left…

So Sota was taking things into her own hands. The cafeteria was properly the place where the buzzing was at it’s worst though at the moment there were not too many people here. If she could just get used to putting up barriers in her own head then maybe she could make it stop or at least dull the white noise down enough to ignore. No luck so far. She had to concentrate hard to form any sort of wall but the buzzing kept braking her concentration, like hearing some one whisper she could not stop herself from reaching out to try and hear what they were saying. An open book her mother had always called her. Maybe if she focused on something else.

Pulling out the map she had been given to find her way around on the first few days Sota took a breath and focused on it instead. After a few moments one of the far sides started to lift away from her hand and fold back over it’s self. The crease along it’s middle was a little harder to do as it mean she had to pinch in a long it’s edge before unfolding the paper and folding it another way to form the wings of a simple paper airplane.

"You are thinking very loudly," Erin had paused in his(second) trek from the food line to an empty table as the girl near the back wall started creating an odd psychic hum that became a sort of grainy fuzz that ended up not really conveying anything. It wasn't terribly loud in that it felt like a person screaming or anything. But it was loud enough to have a few of the others in the room rub at their ears and simply block her out of their own minds and leave the rest to suffer.

"But you do not seem to be thinking about anything," he continued after a short pause to let her bring her attention away from the... was that a paper map she was folding up in that odd manner? And why?

"What are you doing?"
