It's a Tree Party!
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:50:55 pm »
The forest did not have the emptiness of silence to still its leaves. Ardghal had not allowed it for some time. While it invited some wild wasteland creatures to stalk on the borders of his territories with all hackles up and teeth barred, they were dealt with without hardship. Usually. The Dryad had a problem with one in particular. And it was not the Pilot Alaric Eftwyrd he had meet some time ago. He was Aedolian, along with the dragon he had come swooping down with. In his own opinion, they were far more the monster than the disfigured animals prowling and fighting. They knew no better.  For a time after that fortunate meeting, it did not end in blood shed, Ardghal found himself often riling with anger at how naive he was. And at others, wondering whether or not the Pilot would return.

If the Pilot did indeed,  the Dryad would do everything in his power to impress him.

The place he called his home, the dark grove within a large sprawl of woodland, was under constant scrutiny. And he would check the skies with a mind laced with paranoia and expectations by placing a hand on the great wide tree he was bonded to, reaching up towards his furthest branches with the link. The oak was doing a fine part in playing the role of architecture as Ardghal transformed the grove into a small manor. It was being pieced together by fading memories of an older world, many details were left out or showed an attempt to recreate what he thought should be there even when they shouldn’t. Vines covered in thorns created the arches, the windows and doorframes, trees turned and twisted, fused together to support the structures. Beds of flowers, grey and sick, intertwined on the walls inside and out, and stretching further to the roof. It was something out of a nightmare rather than a fairytale.

The Pilot would like it. He was certain.

It was hard to get away as much as he might like. Even when he had free time, there often wasn't enough time to leave the Citadel behind. Again, he flew to the grove with Kezef. The dragon had been interested until he discovered all that was there was some twisted dryad and his twisted trees.

But Alaric had been interested. And honestly, even the paranoid hostility that Ardghal had was at least something. And he was fascinating in his own, interesting way. Alaric wanted to get to know him more, maybe help him.

He wasn't really sure what to bring, what he might need. But he had settled on a bag of composting. Plants liked that, right? His parents thought he was a little weird for stealing a large bag of it from them, but so it was.

Grabbing it off Kezef's back, he headed into the clearing. And stared open mouthed at the changes. There was a strange and terrible beauty to it all. He hesitated at what he guessed was the entrance, "Ardghal? Hello?"

The movement of the dragon, Kazef, even through the skies above the Dryad's forest was enough to alert the smallest of ground foliage. There was a sort of signature in the way it moved in the air, Ardghal remembered it from the last time it approached, that stirred against the wind or the thick radiated fog that drifted through the wastes. The only thing that had truly changed was the absence of a true hostile mind. His own.

As Alaric made his way through the forest the Dryad cleared the path ahead and again closed it up behind him as he walked with overbearing brush. It was a precaution, for wild beasts including the dragon, and if the Pilot wished to escape he would have to trample through poisonous barbs daring to cut through his protective suit. He had yet to bestow the Aedolian with full trust.

"Ah, Pilot." He said, and gave his guest a curt bow when he came into sight in the clearing. He had no intentions of giving away that he was anxious for his arrival. "We hope you have been well."

It was a little unnerving to have the plants move around him like that, to have his escape cut off. But, well, he was curious and if things went that far south that he had to run, Kezef wouldn't hesitate to tear into the plants. Though Alaric really didn't want it to have to come to that. He liked it here. The wildness of it called to his primal soul.

"As well as can be expected. Got shot, but nothing fatal." Alaric grinned behind his mask, "I see you have been busy at work here."

At the instant the Pilot mentioned the words 'got shot' the forest around Ardghal, though he made no shift in posture, moved. Taking a sharp breath inwards; leaves standing still, branches pulling away and inclosing on themselves. And sighed not a moment later. People die, their spirits pulling back to the earth, and leaving others to wait their turn. The Dryad would only wait.

"We have," He said, and turned a quick glance over his shoulder towards the arches adorned in steadfast vines. What was left of his blonde hair snagged itself on the branches growing out from his skin. "We...Attempted to remember, what cities were like. It leaves much to be desire, we're afraid."

"I donno, I think it's pretty cool. Reminds me of a game I played." A really fucked up and twisted game, but it had been cool. Alaric smiled at Ardghal, "Want to show me inside? What made you want to make a house? I got the impression you sort of hated cities."
