Everyday is Exactly the Same
« on: February 09, 2018, 12:03:51 am »
[Cheeeeeeesemonster]

The days were feeling longer and longer. Turq would wake up, take a shower, grab a breakfast bar and eat that on his way to his station. Then, he worked. Well, of course he got dressed and did various other morning activities - simple ones like getting dressed and giving a quick preen. He'd always avoided looking in the mirror except just the quick glance, make sure he looked okay. At least as normal as he could look.

Turq licked his lips while he pushed stuff aside in his fridge, looking for his lunchbox. Nope, empty. Shit. Maybe it was the night before he'd filled it. Must have been. Shit. Turq looked at his clock, frowned at the blinking light, almost six. Time to go. It didn't take long to get to the hanger, but he needed to suit up and put on his boots. Tie back his hair. He sighed, tossed the empty lunch bag on his counter and finally, began his journey to work.

It wasn't that he didn't enjoy his job - he'd been doing it since he was 18 in a round about way - just... That's all he had. Turq sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose and making sure he had all of his things, closed his door and made his way. The journey to the hanger was uneventful, a quick glance at the list today before he went to the locker. Got changed.

Frowned at his reflection again. Turquoise Soaring. Pilot Cardinal. Twenty-two. Weird small deformed monster. He was a little taller in his boots at least. He pushed his hair behind his ear and tied a bandanna around his forehead to keep it back there while he worked. A glance at his face and he licked his lips, poking his sharp little fangs that pressed over his lower lip, pressing harshly at his upper lip that left him with his cat-like mouth. Turq frowned at himself. He wasn't a handsome for a Kulshedra. He wasn't a handsome for a human.

At least the dragons didn't care about what he looked like.  Though, sometimes they teased him about his little tail in passing. First on the list was... Shenzie. General maintenance. Tighten a few bolts. Fix a few dents. All regular things. Safety precautions.  Turq sighed and got to work, collecting. Fixing. Heating. Working. Sweat was on his face and he got comfy on the big dragon while he worked. The dragon's were used to it. Sometimes they talked to him. Sometimes they didn't.

Turq had never worked on Shenzie before and he was hesitant to start up a chit-chat. Mostly, he hummed to himself. The beeping of his comm caught his attention and he jerked his head up quickly, making a trilling noise while he unhooked his safety harness from his perch on the dragon. Though, it was clearly a bad idea. A deep hatred for shoes and a gnawing hunger in his belly cause the misstep.

A sharp gasp, arms cartwheeling and a surprised yelp. His first thought was that he was going to die and his next was that why didn't dragon's come installed with ladder rungs? Turq went noodly after his slip, eyes squeezed shut and decided - hoped - that he'd just have bruises when he landed.

Fuck was he hungry thought. Did he get lunch and then medical or just suffer.

Shenzie was a dick. Jason could never tell if he loved his dragon, or absolutely despised him; perhaps their relationship was an ever-changing one, never static on the spectrum and thus constantly waffling between the two. It seemed an appropriate enough analogy.

He took a deep breath and let out an equally deep sigh, his shoulders sagging as he watched the world outside pass by, golden synthetic light streaming in through the glass panels of the elevator as he headed up to the highest levels of the Citadel to do as his dragon told him to and meet up with him while he was in for maintenance.

It'd only happened once or twice in the years the pair had been together, and the last time Shenzie had requested Jason's attention, it was because he was bored and desperate for anything that didn't immediately relate to paying attention to the Pilot(s) working on him to make him upgraded and better, up to snuff and all that. He thought it was the most dragging experience in the world, and because of that Jason loved it. He loved seeing Shenzie suffer to his own irritating personality and as much of a pain in the ass as it had been to hop the rail here to Haviah all the way from Samariel from an assignment, he really didn't mind too too much.

He liked the traveling aspect of the job, never staying in one place for long. Let him appreciate the different walks of life just that much more, he supposed.

To be honest it'd been a good bit since he'd been to Haviah or the Citadel proper. Last time was for a mission debriefing, he supposed; couldn't remember for which one. Maybe a case in Margad. Either way, as the elevator doors opened it took him a moment to get his bearings before he remembered enough to head to the hangar where the dragon mechanics worked. There were quite a few cute ones, but he noticed that there tended to be a certain kind of personality type that ran rampant with them--the wonderful 'I like dragons more than people' kind of personalities.

And he was no dragon.

And since they were all such wonderful conversationalists (read: not) he was probably going to be bored out of his fucking mind in between teasing and making fun of Shenzie's impatience. Maybe he could hang out in the Pilot chat, or pester Jack or something. No, wait, Jack was... Pretty preoccupied these days. Jason pursed his lips as he walked past various dragons at their stations, some napping, some awake, while dutiful Pilots worked on giving them tune-ups and upgrades.

It really was something else to think that his little brother was married, now. And it was kind of Jason's fault? But they seemed to be really enjoying themselves, and what started out as a joke seemed to be legitimately turning into something more. It was kind of interesting to watch it bloom, to get the random messages from Jack early in the morning about how Lupo made breakfast or how he couldn't fathom how amazing it was or any of that.

After all, their own family hadn't really had much of a sense of parental love, so it wasn't like they had a darling pair of lovebirds to really look up to, growing up. Jason was also kind of surprised that married life was turning out so well for Jack--glad, mind you--but surprised. Their dad had never really been close with their mom, not that they could see; and she died when she gave birth to Carro anyways. He remembered having some dinners together, but she was out of the house a lot, while dad stayed at home a good portion of the time, no need to leave with all his retirement money and all that.

Gramps had never really had a serious partner he carted around with him anywhere either, so the concept of such a lovey dovey relationship seemed utterly impossible. And yet... He kind of wanted that, too.

After all, he was the oldest brother, so logically you'd think he'd be the one getting married first, right? Finding that one person and settling down or something, maybe having kids, hell if he knew. And yet, somehow, it seemed Jackson had miraculously beaten him to it.

Up ahead he caught sight of Shenzie's slate gray maw as the dragon huffed and smoke blew from his nostrils, clearly itching to move, to get up and run and climb or scrabble or something, being the active tank of a dragon that he was, and yet he couldn't. Jason smirked as he walked up, and the sight of movement along Shenzie's back made him look and see the tiny thing that was working on him.

It made him pause a moment, blinking as he took in the vibrant shock of bright teal hair, and the... Short and stubby tail. And the strange legs. An alien of some kind or maybe one of them Kulshedra types he'd heard about but never really seen up close and in person. He was tiny, and as Jason started to step closer to see out of curiosity if he could catch a glimpse of the guy's face, he seemed to take a misstep and he plummeted.

Gravity was fast but Jason was almost always faster; a life lived raising two little brothers who got into way more trouble than they should gave him fast reflexes, and instinctively he threw his arms out and managed to catch the little mechanic, going down on one knee with the force of the momentum but otherwise keeping him upright, off the ground, and safe.

After a moment of waiting for the weight of the fall to quit rattling his bones slightly he slowly stood up, still holding the little thing in his arms bridal style as he looked down at a pretty face with unique features and eyes shut tight.

"Are you okay?"

It was going to really hurt when he landed. Would his tail break though?  Turquoise didn't really wanna deal with that. Eyes still squeezed shut, he gave a grunt when he landed, lips parted and he was slightly winded before he ... Didn't really hurt.  Turq had expected some pain in his head. Smashing it into the ground from such a large dragon but...

A voice echoed in his ear and Turq wondered if that was the voice of an angel. Or a devil. Was he dead? He didn't hurt. Surely that meant he was dead. Maybe an angel. Who ever this was smelled really nice. Turq didn't open his eyes, but he snuggled in, pressing his chest to chest and shoulder, sighing softly before he finally cracked an eye open, looking up confused at the nice smell and the warm chest and... Chest and shoulder?

"Hi," Turq said, voice strained and blinking slowly. This guy was warm. And big. And Wow. Turq didn't make a move to wriggle away. Didn't make an attempt to get out of the big guy's arms. He caught him and... Turq sighed and tried not to give a doofy smile but the corner of his lip turned up and he just... Stayed.

"Thanks," He whispered, blinking at the big guy, breath picking up while his heart started to thump the littlest bit harder and his pupils dilated into little slits for a moment, leaving his eyes pools of gold beside his blue-green scales. "Hi," He repeated, voice soft again before he swallowed and finally realized where he was and what he was doing. Quickly, he wriggled a leg again so the toe of his boot was on the ground and he quickly stood up, dusting off his bright orange overalls and pushing his hair behind his ears.

"Hi," He said again, a silly smile on his face. A glance over his shoulder at the big dragon and he rolled his shoulders and smoothed the front of his overalls down. "Do you want to get lunch? I was just headed to grab lunch. It's... my lunch." A bright hopeful smile, his little fangs poking over his lip before he tucked his hands in his pockets and quickly looked down, a flush on his cheeks and cleared his throat. It was tempting to just turn and walk away but he'd already extended the invitation. Impulsively. Why so impulsively?

Turq swallowed and scuffed his boots on the ground and just... Waited to be dismissed. People who caught other people didn't want to go to lunch with them. They wanted a pat on the back on the back and to be done with it.

For a moment, nothing happened. A whole lotta nuthin'. The little thing in his arms still had his (their?) eyes shut tight, braced for the inevitable impact that wasn't actually going to happen. And then the strangest thing happened.

He snuggled up to Jason and let out the most pleased sigh, and Jason's eyebrows instantly shot up. They'd have rocketed right off his face into space if they weren't attached to him permanently. Sure, saving people who'd fallen from dangerous heights was something he did a lot with his brothers but he'd never gotten this kind of a reaction before. It was entirely new to him and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but quirk upward in the slightest amused smile when the little mechanic opened his... Really stunning gold eyes.

"Uh, yeah, hi?" He rumbled, a sort of snort-chuckle escaping him because this pretty little thing seemed so damn caught up in... Confusion? Shock? It was really, really adorable.

"No problem." He said, wondering if he was actually okay or if maybe the fall had still rattled the poor thing's brains hard enough he might still need to go to medical.

His eyebrows instantly shot up again when the 'Hi' was repeated, and it was with great hesitation he let the mechanic's feet touch the ground. Yeah he might need to take him to medical.

"Yeeeeah, hi." He said, watching him closely and when he was greeted again his brows furrowed and he opened his mouth to mmmaaaybe suggest the little guy not try walking around on his own two feet just yet, until the stranger finally remembered how conversation actually worked and... Asked... Jason to lunch?

He was torn between being seriously concerned and wanting to laugh because this was really amusing and oh god this little guy was SO FUCKIN' CUTE WHAT THE FUCK. Shenzie's eyebrow ridges also shot up and the dragon shifted a bit to watch with more intense curiosity; Jason could feel his intrigue probing at Jason's brain and he shook his head a little, tossing a glare up at his dragon before he shrugged at the mechanic.

"Uh, sure I guess? Are you sure we shouldn't take you to medical first?" He asked, and really without thinking about it he took a step forward to gently slip two fingers under the guy's chin, to tilt his head up so Jason could watch the reaction to light change in his pupils up close and personal, leaning in enough their faces were only a few inches apart.

Turq just really wanted to moosh his face into the guy's neck and stay there. It was like some sort of aromatherapy and he just wanted to cuddle in and nap for a bit. He wasn't tired but if he got to rest his head on those shoulders, oh man. He'd never leave. Turq sort of lost track of what was going on, his eyes on the giant dudes face, his little tail giving a wriggle that moved his hips side to side while the guy glared at his dragon. Turq didn't care. He was smitten.

Though, his ears pinned down when the man spoke and Turquoise's skin prickled and goosebumps covered his arms at the skin to skin touch. Of course, his big golden eyes were responsive. His keen interest obvious in how his pupils went from slits to large dark disks, consuming the gold of his irises. Wow.

"Hi," He said again, eyes fluttering closed, "No, I'm fine. I'm just..." Turq let out a steady breath and couldn't help the little purr that trilled out of him and the somewhat goofy smile. "I'm Turquoise. Turq. I've never been saved before so I'm still just... Happy to not be broken and..." Turq glanced away, trying not to smile again before he slyly slipped his hand into the one that was pressing against his chin. "You're really handsome," He said, voice soft, the tail end of a purr on it. This guy was huge and smelled nice and felt nice and "What's your name? Are you single?"

Turq flushed and cleared his throat and made a silly attempt to take a step back.  "do you like steak? There's a place just... down ... yonder," He gave his arm a fling to a general direction, "makes good steak sandwiches." subject change. Remove foot from mouth.

Well, his pupils dilated fairly quickly due to the change in light as Jason's shadow fell over the little guy's face, and that was usually a good sign. He couldn't help but raise his eyebrows again when the guy stuttered and said Hi again, and Jason let out a soft snort.

He'd been about to pull away when the guy--Turquoise, Turq--reached up to touch Jason's hand on his face. There was something about the tone of his voice, word choice, and body language that had Jason reeling with amusement. He really was a cute little thing and all but uhhh--

Handsome. Single. Was he single?

If his eyebrows could have shot up any faster and weren't attached to his face they'd have rocketed into the stratosphere. Was he single? Those dark eyes of his, bright their red irises quickly and slightly awkwardly looked away as he took a breath to speak, casually taking his hand back and putting it into his pants pockets to join the other on his other hip as Turq quickly backtracked.

Hell. What a predicament. He never understood how Jack had always been so good at these things--a charming smile and a witty comeback and he had people fawning all over him. Jason? He just....... Wasn't the type. It was a cute notion and all but uh... No.

But Turq was cute, one of those types where if he told him no Jason could tell his broken sad puppy face could literally be deadly. And he wasn't feeling like getting speared through the heart just yet.

"Okay, uh, yyyyeah. Steaks are fantastic actually. If you know where, feel free to lead the way." He gestured to Turquoise, unsure of how he should approach those other comments. He felt the urge to maybe mention that he didn't quite function the way most Aedolians did, but he was quickly reminded of Jackson's advice some while ago that it wasn't necessary he put that out there. Might just make things even more awkward. So... Better just take what he had been given and try to roll. Like Jack. Kind of.

"Thanks, by the way. You're pretty cute yourself." He said, clearing his throat and glancing away because he did mean the compliment but hoped it wouldn't get taken the wrong way.

It probably would.

"Name is Jason, Jason Venner. So you work on the dragons, yeah? How long you been doin' that for?"

Big deep breaths.

Turq glanced away and chewed on his lower lip, flushed brightly because he'd let his mouth run away from him and that was too much too soon. Sometimes people didn't like when other people came on too strong and... Glancing at this Jason person, Turquoise could see that's exactly what had happened. Nervous and quiet and awkward 'yeah okays'. He scuffed his boots into the ground and tried to tuck his hands away, head down, ears drooped.

The last thing he wanted to seem was stupid and needy. He just... Turq took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Underneath all the metal and dragon smell was something so wonderful and so familiar he wanted to bury his face in it. The worst part of all of that was he knew it was Jason and he knew what it meant and he knew that with what he'd just done getting any of that would be near impossible.

Maybe Jason wanted to be woo'd? Could Turq woo?

"Hah?" Turq said, eyes wide and staring up, confused. What? His brain rewound the converstion and he processed the question. "Oh... Um...  Four? Years? Since I graduated. This is my first year actually... On the dragons. Before I just repaired parts. Now I'm checking the parts for work done and installing them." He cleared his throat and looked down again, feeling silly and stupid that he'd let his animal brain run away from him but... He really wanted to climb Jason like a tree and just curl around him like a snake.

"If you still ... Um... Wanted to grab lunch with me it's just this way," and Turq turned around and slowly started to make his way, not truly going until he'd heard the much larger's guy move behind him. "What do you do? You're... Huge." Turq looked over his shoulder and exaggeratedly looked Jason up and down, making a point of moving his head and flicking his hears back. A little tick tock of his tail because this was one yummy guy and calm... Be calm. Jason clearly wanted to be Woo'd. Turq can woo. "I can woo," He whispered to himself quietly, eyes stuck on Jason's throat after he'd asked him his question.

"Are you in a squad? You look kind of familiar." of course, Turq was thinking of Jackson but... Human's kinda all looked a like to him.

As they walked, it quickly became apparent to Jason that this cute little thing was in a world of his own, and he honestly had no idea if it was from the fall, or if this was how he normally was, or if it was because of something Jason had said.

His job was to hunt people down, not make friends with them.

He took in a breath and let it out slowly as he waited patiently for Turq to process the question and answer, and when he did it didn't exactly sound confident.

"Four years, huh? You don't sound so sure about that." He joked very lightly, before realizing that maybe joking wasn't the best? Idea? When Turq already looked like he was on the verge of tears?

"That's really cool though. Must be exciting, working on the dragons. They're neat creatures." Even though he really had nothing positive to say about his, and Shenzie knew it.

His eyebrows raised again as Turquoise indicated which way to go for steaks as if Jason hadn't already agreed to it. He merely gave the little thing an encouraging nod and followed right behind, one hand in his pocket, the other swinging gently with his stride.

"What do I do? Ah, wwwell," He gave Turq a glance; he'd been trying not to look at him too much, concerned if he did it might make him nervous or something. He chuckled a little when he realized Turq called him huge. "Yeah, I'm supposed to be big and scary. I can't really talk much about what I do, though. Just that I make sure everyone stays safe, I guess."

He shrugged a shoulder, blinking and looking back to Turquoise when he thought he heard him say something, but maybe he'd imagined it, because the Kulshedra was quick to ask him if he was in a squad, and Jason snorted with a short laugh.

"Nah, that's my little brother Jack. Ranged heavy weapons expert for the Harpies." He smiled though, it wasn't uncommon for people to look at the two of them and see the similarities; usually when they looked at pictures of each other all they could pick out were the differences, but he supposed different people saw different things.

"This it up here?" He asked, nodding and gesturing to a steakhouse sign that was coming into view some ten feet ahead. "I wouldn't peg you to be the steak-loving kinda type. That's cute." He held the heavy fake wooden door open for Turq as they reached the entrance, gesturing for him to go inside first.

The waitress was a little stunned when she looked up from her podium and spotted the two of them, eyes lingering on Jason (probably because he was tall. And big.) before moving to Turq and back to Jason, who held up his hand with two fingers so she didn't have to ask the question. She let out a breath and nodded, grabbing two menus and asking them to follow her; Jason noticed the place seemed to be fairly busy, considering it was the height of lunchtime.

"So are you a Technokinetic then?" Jason asked as they were seated, carefully scooting into the bench seat on the opposite side and grimacing when he rested his arms on the table and the tabletop leaned a little under the weight.

That's cute.

Turq sucked in a breath, moving a hand to his stomach and holding his fist there while he calmed himself down. Jason thought he was cute. That was a step in the right direction right? Oh, but puppies and kitten's were cute. Turq wanted to be irresistible and sexy. Maybe even handsome. A quick glance to Jason while they walked and Turquoise nodded dumbly a few moments after the comment about steak - though in reality he'd spend so long wanting to be sexy he just nodded that, indeed, this was the place where the food was.

Quietly he followed Jason after the waitress and sat opposite him.

He was huge.

Turq stared openly, eyeing his biceps and licking his lips while looking at his throat and all he wanted to do was have that for lunch and... Turq took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment before focusing on his menu.

Of course he was going to get a steak sandwich. He'd already known what he was going to get but if he didn't stop staring and get ahold of himself he'd probably strip naked and present himself on the table. He was Turq. Not tart. No being a tart. Blowing out a careful breath he looked up through his hair across the table to Jason and moved the menu a little closer to him.

"I'm a pyro," He said softly. "I mostly... Heat the air." He shrugged slightly, "on the spot welding, kind of. Usually end up gross and sweaty at the end of the day." He cleared his throat and cleared his throat, looking to the waitress who was waiting patiently after placing water at their table.

"What can I get you boys?" she said brightly, glancing between the two. She either didn't know they were Pilots or she just didn't care because she had a impatient but welcoming air around her. Like she wanted to take their orders to get them their food rather than so she could just be done with it.

"I'll have the steak sandwich, as rare as you can make it with steak fries." Turq smiled and closed his menu, pushing it aside and tucking his hands under his chin and leaning forward to look at Jason a bit better. Study his features and piping up once the waitress got both their orders and wandered away.  "Do you like what you do? Sometimes I wonder if I'm just a fancy psychic mechanic more than a Pilot." There, that was a safe topic. Though Turq's eyes constantly went back to the the spot on Jason's neck where it met the shoulder. All he wanted to do was bite it.

Look, Jason might not have always been the most intuitive guy on the block, but uh...

Was this guy just... Kinda... Staring at him for a reason or...?

He was so grateful when Turquoise broke the awkward eye contact in favor of looking down at the menu, and Jason took the opportunity to do the same. He quickly picked the largest platter of ribs on the menu, but he pretended to be considering other options for a few moments just to steel himself a bit better. This guy was kind of an odd one, wasn't he? Cute, but odd.

"Ah, a pyro." He smiled a bit, setting his menu in the middle of the table. "A good thing to be, so's my brothers. I guess you could say I am too. I mostly use magma, though. Never could get the handle of those tiny, dainty flames."

He smiled broadly at the waitress, handing her their menus as he placed his order for his massive plate of ribs--they wouldn't last to even see a to-go box.

Delicate turquoise hands were folded underneath an equally small chin and Jason's eyebrows raised a little at his question, a slight crooked smile pulling at his lips. "Mm, yeah I guess you could say that. Very top secret, dangerous stuff. Usually lots of brawling involved." Which was undoubtedly something he'd have been good at based on his size alone--the muscle mass added on top was just the cherry.

He nodded though, looking around the restaurant with an ever watchful gaze that was such a habit now he'd never be able to stop it--he'd probably still be lookin around even when he was in his grave.

"Yeah, I've heard positions like those can seem kinda dull once you get out of Candyland. But that doesn't make your job any less important," He smiled at Turq. "If it weren't for you I'd never hear the end of Shenzie's bitching. You make my job a lot more bearable, thank you."

And he meant it. Without people like Turquoise the Pilots would be even more stretched thin than they already could be sometimes, and that was no way to run an army, especially if you actually needed them on the frontlines.

"I mean excitement in a job is fun and all, but there are days I wish I could have a regular schedule and go home to a family of some kind or something. That'd be nice." He pondered it for a moment, looking up at the single hanging light above their table in thought. "White picket fence did always sound real nice."

"What about you, got a family, stuff you do on the side? Hobbies?"
