Based on the "space hulk" concept from Warhammer 40k, a massive wrecked spaceship the size of a small moon appears in the main solar system suddenly and without explanation. The salvagers who first report it nickname their find 'the Hoard of Matthias', after the crew member who first spotted it on sensors... but as the planetary governments and prospectors from Thanatos and countless freelancers investigate the monumental wreck further, an entirely different name for it comes into use: the Sepulcher. The Sepulcher, so named for the hundreds of various alien corpses found in its most accessible outer layers, turned out not to be one ship but many: countless craft rolled and mangled together with clumps of asteroids and space debris, the lines between one piece and another blurred by centuries worth of damage and decay. Even just a cursory exploration of the wreck turned up hundreds of artifacts and valuables... but exploring deeper than the surface quickly proved hazardous. The derelict, honeycombed with sealed vaults and tunnel-like corridors, was not entirely unoccupied. Explorers claimed to encounter feral, predatory alien creatures, ancient robotic guardians, traps, unstable pathways... and even bizarre psychic phenomenon, what some claimed to be the silent ghosts of the Sepulcher's prior occupants. The Sepulcher draws countless researchers, treasure-seekers, and unsavory characters to it's elusive shores. The powers that be have yet to try and lay claim to it, perhaps balancing the risks against the potential gains, but perhaps that's merely a matter of time. Until then, everyone and their uncle wants a piece of the Sepulcher... and it often takes pieces, or more, of them in return.
