Bounty or Booty?
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:43:32 pm »
A door slid open on the roof of a towering sky scraper.  Stepping though was a man in a gray trench coat and carrying a metal suitcase while whistling what sounded like the tune from a horror movie.  The sky above would be clear, if not for the numerous shuttles flying over head.  Ignoring the over population, Jax placed the suitcase down and walked towards the edge of the building.  The wind running into the side of the sky scraper caused a strong updraft which would have bothered him if not for the fact that his skin was fake, as was his hair.  Vertigo wasn’t something machines needed to worry about.

Jax peered over the edge of the roof top and down upon the ant like swarm of flying vehicles below.  In his eyes, each one appeared on a predetermined path.  The world looked so much different though the eyes of a machine.  He didn’t have time to take in and enjoy the scenery, for there were reports that a possible bounty was in the area.  As it scanned the skyways and monitored communication channels, a search on the target was being performed.  A known pirate which quite the bounty.  Personally, he’d seen bigger and more threatening pray, but that was in no way a reason to treat ‘Rune’ any different from a class S criminal.

Jax returned to the suitcase he’d placed on the ground and knelt down to open it.  This revealed for seemingly harmless components.  A long cylindrical tube with small lit up sensors along the side at the base.  The next was a fire control system with built in targeting hardware.  A shoulder mounted framework with cybernetic interface terminal.  And finally a coolant rod held in a containment unit until needed.

He slowly removed the tube and fire control system.  There was a latching sound as the barrel connected to the frame, along with the sound of a batter being charged.  Next was the shoulder mount.  That slid into place smoothly and without effort, then latched into place.  Last was the coolant rod.  Jax pulled back the protective side panel of the fire control system and reached for the rod.  Once inserted into its proper slot and sealed up tight, it was complete.

Lifting the now completely assembled weapon, Jax approached the edge of the building once more to get into position.  He placed the gun over the edge of the building and reached for the back of his neck.  A small piece of skin was parted aside as a cable pushed its way through.  He grasped the cable with the tips of his fingers and pulled it out and around to a port on the side of the shoulder mount.  Upon connection, the weapon became an extension of his body.  He could see though the targeting system and thus began to sweep the area for the target.

Down below on the streets, Rune was blissfully oblivious to what was going on up above, and why shouldn't he be? He hadn't been in Aedolis for ages and he'd performed surgery on himself decades ago in the back of his ship with a razor blade and a bottle of alcohol to rid himself of his microchip and get the hell out of that place, and thus began his life of crime--outside of Aedolis. Sure he'd had a bounty on him back then, but it had been for petty crimes, nothing big like what he'd racked up lately, so he wasn't worried about being recognized. Who would remember a lowly software pirate? Nah, he'd committed his big crimes out in the middle of space where there was a lower risk of witnesses and where he was a citizen of Rune Land (AKA his ship; yes that was its official name in his head), and he didn't really think news of those crimes would make it all the way back here.

He certainly didn't expect there to be a guy on a roof with a shit-ton of weapons waiting to take him out. He didn't even think he stood out that much. Nope, not even with his dark blue hair, long enough to reach his chin and decorated with beads, pointed ears (damned elfish father, giving him funny ears and stuff), and colorful attire. Wasn't much different from anything else the other peons were wearing, and he wasn't the only guy around with weird colored hair.

All in all, Rune felt perfectly safe, and perhaps a wee bit overconfident.

In any case, he'd eventually found his way back to Aedolis, scheduled to pick up an illegal shipment of drugs for distribution. Not the most exciting thing he could possibly get thrown into prison over, but it was money in his pocket and so he'd agreed. He just had to hang out in Haviah for a day longer before everything would be ready, which was a bit of a pain in the ass--no, hand.

Grimacing, Rune flexed his right hand sorely. Since he'd cut his microchip out and you couldn't get anything here without one, and since he'd get found out pretty quickly if he didn't have one, he'd had to get one. Illegally, of course. He'd managed to purchase one off the VCN, one that some other pirate or somesuch was selling that had once been in the hand of some dead dude, which was now in his hand. Ew. Anyway, he'd had to slice his hand all over again just to get the damned thing in, and now part of his hand was numb. That couldn't be a good sign.

Not that big of a deal, though. All it meant was that he'd just have to use his left hand when he made it to Red Lit Desires, which was where he intended to spend his evening. Good thing he was ambidextrious. Even better that he'd be out of the country before anyone realized a dead man had randomly come back to life to spend credit he didn't have (because he'd willed it all away to charity and his cats) on girls (and likely guys) fourty years younger than him. Ah, the joys of snagging a rich dude's microchip.

Stretching his arms over his head, Rune sighed happily, a little extra bounce in his step. Much as he hated this place, he was going to have fun screwing with the system.

[OOC: ...xD Sorry for the ramble!]

A few minutes had passed as Jax searched the sky and ground for the target.  A slightly transparent image of Rune was present as he scanned every face that came into view.  It was just a few moments after seeing a group of male transvestites walking past a man stretching his arms.  The reason Jax knew they were actually men was the Adams apples each of them possessed.  But enough about them, it was the man stretching that caught his attention.  Luckily he was walking towards Jax’s general direction and not away.  The screen zoomed in closer and began to run a match with the image he had of Rune.  The two images merged and in green bold letters said ‘Match’.

Alright, so Rune was now located.  However this wasn’t exactly how Jax had hoped to find him.  He originally was hoping to see Rune in some sort of aerial transport and Jax would simply disable it with his weapon and then capture his target.  Now that Rune is on the ground, the gun was virtually useless since Rune was to be taken alive.  Jax sighed and lowered his head slightly, imitating the actions of humans when depressed.  Slowly he rose his head and looked down at the target.  Jax then stood up and analyzed the situation.

He was over four hundred floors up with a heavy and high powered weapon.  His target was ground level and wasn’t to be killed.  To put away the weapon and get all the way to ground level would take to long and risk losing the target.  Jax took a step forwards and looked reluctantly straight down as his processors ran over time to gather all of the trajectory data for what seemed to be the only course of action.

Jax made the same sigh and motion he’d preformed a minute ago and then knelt down to grasp the handle of the weapon.  “Why the hell did I even bring this…?”  He stood back up and watched for a few more seconds before everything lined up perfectly with his projected path and trajectories.  “I should have just shot him…”  He said as he pushed himself off the roof with a swift thrust from his legs.

For the brief moment, he was flying away from the building, and then quickly entered the typical falling motion like all over things which lack flight.  In his eyes, there were so many paths for vehicles to take and of those; a select few were present for his dissension.  First was a yellow taxi flying slowly below.  Jax landed with a metal crunching thud directly on he rear of the vehicle, which caused the hovering car to rotate an entire one and eighty degrees.  Now looked back down at the ground, He softly pushed off the rear of the car and righted himself in mid fall as he approached a floating billboard.  This time the impact was far more graceful as the damage was only minimal.  Or so it appeared…  He began to run down the top of the sign which seemed to be slowly drifting downward.  He then jumped across to land on top of yet another vehicle, this time a truck.  Jax held on this time and was brought even closer to the target Rune which may or may not be aware of Jax’s delicate mode of rapid transportation.

Finally, the last vehicle he’d have to jump to, to reach the target.  A large hover transport was about to pass below him.  At the exact moment the transport was below, Jax leapt off the truck with great force and against the side of the passing transport.  While there was still inertia pushing him against the transport, Jax ran along the side and down towards the street below.  Each step he took, left a large dent in the side of the transport, which happened to be carrying a flammable liquid substance used for any number of things.  He finally reached the end and lightly jumped off the side and down onto the side walk a few meters away from Rune.  The sudden impact crushed the ground beneath Jax and left a small crater.  This is because his body is so damn heavy and he was still carrying the weapon.  The force of the landing had made him kneel down.  So he slowly began to lift himself up as his hands pulled the weapon around to point in front of him.  Just at that moment when Jax was about to fully stand up.

The car he had landed on first, the large floating sigh, the truck, and the transport leaking fuel began crashing down behind him in a fiery hell blaze which could only accidentally happen when Jax is involved.  Luckily for those driving said vehicles, their emergency foam systems protected them from the sudden impact and flames.  Auto fire suppression system quickly dealt with the flames and everyone somehow managed to survive, but the image of a large explosion directly behind Jax was kind of bad ass looking.

He looked directly at Rune and then spoke as if nothing had just happened.  “Rune… You are under arrest.  Surrender or I will ki—hurt you a lot…”  He said as he pointed the weapon in Rune’s direction.  Assuming Rune hadn’t already started to haul ass out of there already.
