The Sikuria Sirens
Search and Rescue/Disaster Response Team

Beware the lilting voices upon the wind
The song of the Siren, sad and sweet
Warning to foes, omen to friends
Soon your Fate you shall meet

I. About the Sirens

Formed after an undisclosed incident involving the disappearance of Pilots, the Sirens work closely with the regular populace of Aedolis, both within their home dome of Sikuria and within other domes. They are a response team, such that they answer when and if a major disaster strikes, and they both ostensibly search for missing persons within Aedolis and covertly search without. While any squad is technically capable of searching out specific targets for recovery, the Sirens are specifically trained to limit their combat operations and focus primarily upon the retrieval of abducted persons, along with their protection and keeping them in one piece. Psionics and skills that allow one to remain undetected while hunting are important, as well as psionics and skills that are of an investigative nature.

While their focus is on the preservation of life and limb of missing persons, the Sirens also have a strict training doctrine when it comes to combat. Team cohesion is of the utmost importance to a Siren. You’re going into potential disaster zones where anything can happen, so you have to trust your teammates with your life. You need to be able to trust the person at your back without question. The Sirens are expected to move as a single unit, almost as a single mind. However, they are also expected to be able to change tactics on the fly, especially since they deal with dynamic situations, and no two incidents are the same.

When not dealing with missing persons and disaster response, the Sirens are expected to adhere to a strict training regimen consisting both of solo, partnered, and group simulations. They are expected to keep their equipment in prime condition and good repair. They are expected to be able to move at a moment’s notice. Real-world practice is often carried out within their home dome of Sikuria, taking place as a hunting game with most of the squad pitted against a randomly selected single member who acts as the perpetrator, forcing them to match wits against one of their own.

Headquarters

Sikuria is known as the City of Twilight, and the Sirens’ headquarters, Anthemusa, is located directly beneath the giant cliff that covers the city in perpetual shadow. On the outside, it is a nondescript office-like building, inviting to the public. The upper floors consist of offices for squad members, a boardroom for squad meetings, an entertainment room, and the Commander’s personal office. The lower floors consist of a weight room, the simulation room, more offices, and interview rooms. The ground floor consists of a receptionist’s desk, two large waiting areas with water features in the center of each. Behind the receptionist’s desk is a large mosaic mural depicting a beautiful blonde-haired siren sitting upon a cliff, her arms outstretched as if to encompass the entire room within the shelter of her arms.

II. Objectives

- Get in!
- Find the target!
- Get out in one piece!
- Repeat!

The Sirens are, first and foremost, a rescue team. Though their skills lean toward stealth and extraction, their combat skills still strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. Their objective is to locate the rescue target and eliminate everything in between if the situation calls for it. In the event of a disaster - such as a collapsed building due to an explosion - they deploy to search for, and recover, lost persons without causing more damage or losing life and limb.

V. General History

The Sirens were formed after an undisclosed event involving the disappearances of Pilots and civilians, in response to preventing such events from happening again. The Sirens are designed to work closely with the populace of Sikuria, and with the general populace of Aedolis, and are designed to respond both to missing persons cases and to occurrences of disaster at a moment’s notice. They also act as support to other Squadrons if need be.

VI. Extra Stuff

The real-world training that is carried out within their home dome of Sikuria is ostensibly portrayed as an off-duty hunting game. Roles are chosen by random lottery, thus giving each squad member experience in every possible outcome. One person acts as the perpetrator, one person acts as the captive, and the others act as the rescue party. The goal is for the rescue team to outwit the perpetrator and rescue the captive, all without falling into the traps set by the perpetrator or “losing” the captive. To prevent cheating, the Commander acts as a neutral party, overseeing the entire game.
