Physical Description: So!

Well, to begin with, we have this picture from an anime called Strike The Blood.

Terra is a physically-fit and athletic figure, with black hair that terminates at the small of her back and violet eyes.  She often looks serious, though she is not incapable of smiling or any other reaction.  She just has...control.  You find her most-often in a reinforced white flight-suit that is capable of sustaining life in space.  This, plus the addition of her helmet, actually makes her appear like The Stig from Top Gear.  So, if you SEE The Stig in space, it might actually be her.  Any time she wears normal clothing, it's always gonna be a shirt and pants, preferrably something that isn't stupid-looking.

Personality: Hoo boy...

She is a soldier, an ace pilot.  It's her life and her duty, but it's alot more complicated than that.  You see, Terra has a life and a joy and a responsibility.  It's just that she takes all of them very seriously.  Her life is in space, a part of an orgaization which left this area, but waited somewhere on the fringe to build up its strengths.  She believes in that organization, and she fights for that organization.  Her joy is swift acceleration and combat.  It may have been something she was taught, but she took to it and made it her own.  Her responsibility is to the lives and the success of the Black Talon.  Each failing, and every life lost, is a sting upon her mind.  She is very driven.

Terra has a full range of emotions, but it is within her power to control the physical reactions of them.  She will not laugh, cry, or rage unless she feels that it is appropriate to.  This does not mean that there is something wrong with her brain.  Generations of genetic augmentation have allowed for something to go RIGHT with the brains of the Black Talon, that being the ability to manage one's own body directly, to override normal motor reflexes and substitute with another command.  Terra's discipline is such that she will not do something unhealthy with it, as there had been some abusers of this ability in the past.

Her natural demeanor is that of the no-nonsense person, with the cynic and deadpan snarker near at hand.  More often than not, what people notice is that she tends to remain calm at all times.  When this changes is when you watch out.

Magic/Abilities: No actual magic, but...

Genetic Augmentation - Agents of the Black Talon have generationally enhanced themselves to maximize their physical potential, and then pass these traits onto their kids, who then themselves get enhanced, as well.  After several such generations, people like Terra are physically faster and more agile than normal people, with good levels of stamina and great reaction time.  Strength and enddurance were increased, as well, but not all that much (except in Berserkers), in an effort to promote true athletes.  On top of this, the senses are also acute, and Terra personally has Synesthesia, meaning that input from the other senses can appear as color in her vision.

Implanted Knowledge - While being modified, young members of the organization are given information directly into the brain.  Terra trained and studied while young, but since her learning capacity was expected to be high, this was mostly a consumption of knowledge and review experience to fortify the info that was basically programmed into her.  Because of this, she has a great understanding of several science and medical areas (physics, astonomy, biology, higher math, etc.), but also combat theory, piloting, and a number of others conducive to her life.  Weirdly, these studies...which have helped her become a great pilot in space...have also made it possible to calm a child with the right use of pressure points.

Direct Motor Control - So, you know those things your body does automatically?  Your heartbeat, your immune system, your emotional reactions, your adrenaline surges, and so on?  After years of genetic enhancement to allow them to tap into the body's full potential, the Black Talon have succeeded.  Terra has true control over her body.  She can operate her own adrenal glands, slow her heartbeat down, tell her stomach to shut up for a while, and more.  She can cut off pain and tell her body which wounds to priorities on.  She can feel less emotion OR more.  Uhh...let's just say that procreation in the Black Talon goes down very well.

Relationships:

The Black Talon - Genetically-engineered people on the fringe of known space.

The Blood Omen - Personal self-guided mech.

The Stig - ???

History: First, the one...

Many years ago, a large ship left Earth with designs to explore space and terraform distant worlds.  However, on their way to the edge of known space, it became apparent that the progenitors of this bold plan did not really understand the difficulty behind leaving one's home star and going out there into the unknown.  This vessel could operate longterm, but as a colony ship with a large assortment of varied human beings and such, it didn't seem likely that the generations would do very well, down the lines, what with the nearest stars being so very far away, and this ship being geared for long use, not frigging light speed or FTL, nor its crew given the luxury of sleeping in come kind of stasis until needed.  The original colonists were disenheartened and angry, but there was a solution.  It was extremely long and would require total commitment to the cause.  If they simply ignored Plan A and went along their own path, eventually their descendants would be victorious over space, with all of its hazards and pitfalls.

On that day, the Black Talon was formed.

Officers aboard the ship, now re-dubbed as the Black Legion, who opposed the new plan were taken into custody as new leaders stepped up.  They would make use of their machinery and knowledge NOW, but not to induce changes in planets or erect life-supporting bases.  They would rebuild the ship and rebuild themselves.  Life and humanity aboard this vessel would change forever.  Thus, they worked tirelessly, for the future, right after the coup to take over the ship.  Theyhung quietly around asteroids as time passed, for resources and for cover, and they were all soon forgotten.  The Black Legion became a stronger vessel, more capable of defending itself and supporting life en masse, as well as enhancing lives.  Genetic engineering started, and all members aboard the craft had two significant enhancements made.  Their physiology was enhanced a little and (most importantly) genetic compatibility was made more prevalent, which would assuredly ease the work of future generations.

Time passed...  ALOT of time, in fact.

Somewhere along the lines, the Black Talon realized that their ship might still not be sufficent for their needs, though it was now a fully-capable longboat-design battleship with dangerous weapons and giant robot mechs for its people.  Yes, the Black Talon became quite military over the years, pushed towards it by the officers who scoffed at them as their genetic information was used for the initial augmentation experiments.  The mechs were originally for use of gathering materials, but they soon made them all combat machines to test the strength and skill of their enhanced bodies.  Competition drove them further, and so further technological research in those areas continued.  And why not?  It seemed to help when you consider that the Black Talon had decided on a longstanding process to build a superior base that would move under its own power, extract resources, and support its people.

This became known as the Nemesis Project.

The project is well-known to Black Talon personnel, but its exact nature is not discussed outside of their group.  It's years in the building, and still requires much time and effort to fully complete, though it is partially active.  It has power and life support, defenses, and machines to send out.  It is manned and a fair bit of the research and development work, as well as the bulk of production facilities have been transferred over to it.  With it in this level of operation, the Black Legion can roam and focus more on its necessary tasks, such as the acquisition of necessary resources or the testing of new weapons.  Nemesis can look after itself.

So, it's about this time that we must get down to Terra.  Like many of her kind, she was born of a human mother and then after enough time for imprinting and recovery from childbirth, her mother sent her to be augmented, as she was when she was a baby.  You might call it a bit Gattaca, but Black Talon parents want this for their children.  They want them to withstand the stress of their duties, to perform well and to grow up into even greater individuals than they will.  Much pride is taken in seeing their progeny take shape into more powerful indviduals.  Incidentally, the genetic compatibility experiments made it possible to keep reasonable genetic variation over the years, so you don't get many defects.  Terra was born and Terra was put into a gene-augmentation tube to receive information into the subconscious of the brain (so that learning and personality development was not compromised) while her body was modified.

Black Talon children fight and play.  As a child, Terra watched others like a hawk, and struck with speed and accuracy.  Grudges were eliminated in favor of pure competitive spirit, and emotions were starting to be controlled, so hatred became essentially pointless...except when you have that sort of person who doesn't like to commit, the kid that just won't do the activities or can't, somehow.  That was often resented.  Terra didn't like quitters or cryers.  She learned about pressure points specifically to stop kids from crying so she could tell them how pointless it was.  The results of their childhood helps ease them into their place in the Black Talon.  Terra demonstrated a forceful nature, so a'soldiering she'd go.  Honestly, all of them can be soldiers, but there are those that are more technical, more aggressive, more commanding...  They sort of wondered how well the last one would work in her case.

The answer, of course, came in her teenaged years during pilot training, where she would pilot at high acceleration and maneuverability alone, and coordinate well with others.  That is...she had plans in her head and she directed others.  She only carried out orders received when they made sense to her, tactically.  For this reason, Terra eventually became a squadron leader.  However, things would soon change in her life, as the Black Talon leader himself was killed..by his own machine!  The Black Talon command mech for field operations was a unique creation known as the Blood Omen, and it needed a new pilot...  It needed the best pilot available.  Guess who was chosen?

Physical Description: And again!

No picture has ever been made to do the Blood Omen justice.

It is a tall humanoid crimson mech, a bloody machine.  It's red-colored horror, essentially.  This metal giant is like a well-built person, in shape, though expressed in armor and metallic parts...sort of.  The head has streamlined horns that are pointed back, with a glowing visor eye and a nasty-looking vent face  The shoulders are padded and spiked, and the elbows and knees are spiked, as well.  The feet and hands are clawed, and you get the impression that this whole machine is VERY articulate.  Engine power exists on the back (main drive) and in the feet (boosters), though one of the curious features are the four back-mounted articulate appendages with seem like blade-wings with embedded engines (main maneuvering).

Blood Omen highly-articulate and flexible, as well as self-altering to a degree because it is the combined effort of weapons development and biological science which has fused flesh to metal in the creation of this behemoth, which is actually a living creature with one eye that can live in space, survive entering an atmosphere, and engage in deadly combat.  It generatess power, it creates weapons, it syncs with its pilot (who resides in the central torso area), and it even feels pain.  It also has identity.

Personality: Yup.

Blood Omen is alive, and it thinks.  It actually thinks quite alot, and on deep matters regarding the state of its being and the worthiness of its pilot, the one whom it was bestowed upon.  Mostly, it thinks about the will of its creators and whether their goals can be achieved.  It has programming, but it was of no surprise to anyone that it had a brain.  Blood Omen is a grim mech which does not laugh or weep, but can get angry.  He never gets bored, but he does not like anybody wasting his time.  He can lie and he can judge, and if he does not like its pilot, he can EAT the pilot.

Magic/Abilities: Still no magic.

Space Mech - It's a large attack machine that is capable of taking its own actions, but does not operate in FULL without the use of a pilot.  Even still, Blood Omen is a living giant robot with flesh fused with alloys, capable of flying around space or in an atmosphere.  It is large and dangerous, with highly-calibrated sensors, great strength and high-speed maneuvers, and (due to the nature of its construction) regeneration.  With the creation of DNA storage (a real science), it is possible to back up information genetically to a high degree and cause to recreate and restore damaged parts, even the brain.  And speaking of brains, it connects to the pilot directly in order to sync up their actions.

Variable Weapon System - Blood Omen creates weapons from itself.  It grows and uses them.  It can't make EVERY single damn thing under the sun, but it has variety.  It can create solid melee weapons that cane become heated, electrified, or high-frequency (vibrational).  It can produce focused energy blades or projected attacks by the formation of a proper emitter to direct it.  It can produce missles, fire them, and build replacements for them itself.  One thing that it's VERY well-known for is the fusion cannon.  Take stellar fusion science and put it in a cannon, and blammo!  A highly-destructive beam.  Now, this may make you think that Blood Omen is a shapeshifter, but it's not.  The mech is always in humanoid form and remains so.  It can't grow 27 arms with cannons and it can't just spawn missles forever.  There's output and mass limitations that it can't overcome.  Those are only broken by the Nemesis.

Relationships:

The Black Talon - His creators

Terra Laedo - Current pilot

The Nemesis - His progenitor

History: And then, the other...

If you read Terra's background, you know that the Black Talon organization excells in numerous practices, such as terraforming, genetic engineering, energy generation, mining operations, weapons development, and more.  They poured all of this knowledge - some of which needed a great deal of study in the beginning, while others were already known - on themselves and their ship, the Black Legion, and then they turned it further towards the creation of giant spacefaring robots and the Nemesis Project.  The Nemesis was to be many things, and we will not speak of its most intimate of secrets, save for the fact that the technology that created the most-advanced aspects of the Nemesis were later used in the creation of the Blood Omen command mech.

Living tissue has been long-known to be compatible in some ways with metal.  Bone can fuse with titanium, prosthetic implantation has been around for ages.  It's all a matter of investing time, effort, and experimentation into it.  Parts of that research had already been completed prior to drawing up plans for the Blood Omen.  Its creation was far simpler than that of the Nemesis, with all of its complexities and resource requirements.  The two basic sciences needed to create it were available already.  They just needed to merge them properly, and lo and behold...a highly-capable and self-aware living mechanized organism capable of connecting and synching with its pilot.  The only problem was this...  Blood Omen had high standards.

Let me explain.  This thing was conceived by the Black Talon leader, RonMaru, after the most important aspects of the Nemesis (its reactor core area) were completed.  He did so because he, a powerful cyborg, wanted his own unique killing machine, his personal chariot.  Following his orders, they created the Blood Omen to his gristly specifications and gave it over to him.  For years, he enjoyed its power and capabilities.  However, the mech itself grew to hate him.  He was not a pure enough fighter, his god-head personality was grating on the nerves, and he didn't like the feel of his cybernetics.  So, he ate him.  Blood Omen's cockpit literally grew teeth and munched him to death.  As a result, they needed a new pilot while the commander of the Black Legion took control of the organization.

So entered Terra Laedo...
