When you sit alone (open)

She sat in table towards the back of the small bar. It wasn't the cleanest or tended to attract the most socially upstanding of patrons, but she had enough to buy a hot meal of...well she wasn't sure exactly what it was there was some sort of meat and bread that had been baked at some point in the week, judging by the taste it had been more than a few days ago and was not longer at its prime.

But she had learned that if you covered it with something else stale bread was for the most part eatable, and the staff were far more likely to tolerate any one who didn't complain what they were served. At least one of them seemed able to toss an unfortunate patron out the door should she get to uppity about the quality of food. Of course more than a few of the patrons looked like they might give a fight right back.

She was never really fond of places like this but so long as she got fed she didn't really care. Besides, the drink was warming, even if it was watered down, which was welcomed with the damp weather outside which was rapidly turning towards cold now that night had settled in. All she would have to do would be to get through the rest of the day or night as the case may be without getting into to much trouble. Something she seemed to be  incapable of doing most of the time.

She was determined to this time though. All she would have to do was not draw too much attention to herself before she could make an exit and walk uneventfully towards home.

Jerek held in a sigh as he entered the lousy bar. He hated small spaces, particularly since Talisman could not follow him in. Being a Pilot Cardinal certainly had its perks, but inspecting the lower castes was not one of them. He internally despised many of these folk, simply for their lack of intelligence. However, he needed to do a routine check-up: scout for any crimes, check for any Psionics, and enlist any mages. Hopefully he would find one of those things today; it made these ordeals more bearable.

Since Jerek was in full Pilot uniform, he was certain at least someone would recognize him. Excellent. Their reactions would say enough. It was easy to see masked fear; perfect to identify criminals. The fear would be even more projected, since they all thought he could read their minds; luckily, not only was he a weak telepath, but he needed special and burdening clearance. He could also look for joy or pride; a good sign, and a good citizen. However, there was one easy way to get a hearty reaction. Snickering a little, with his trademark sneer forming across his brow, Jerek snapped his fingers, and a little fire lit in his hand. He was a talented Pyrokinetic, and he sure utilized that.

Immediately, there was a small gasp from a few folks and a quick silence across the bar. It seemed that he was finally getting some recognition. And now the mandatory fame and patriotism that came as an added "perk." More like an added pain in the as..."K you a question, Mister Pilot Sir?" said one of the bartenders. There happened to be only two. "Yes?" he cordially replied. Already someone gasped as he spoke. Probably hamming it up a bit. "What is your favorite drink sir? Trust me, its on the house." Classic trap attempt. Jerek was better than that. "It's alright, I love serving as a patron to the local businesses. I'd love to pay. Do you have any water?" A surprising choice, and a slight commodity. Paying his fee, he sat down at a random table to drink.

Looking across, he noticed that he was not sitting alone on the table. At the other end sat a fairly pretty young woman. He was particularly interested in romantic pursuits at this point, especially not when a dragon could basically probe any thought in his mind, but he assumed that she had probably dealt with a suitor or two in her life. Fortunately for the Pilot Cardinal, she was not immediately clamoring to know more, and seemed a lot more introverted. My sort of person, or so he thought.

Argroww was getting frustrated, ever since The Iron Claw had docked and the engineers had made some serious effort towards repairing the ship they'd discovered a critical shortage in the resources required to replace the Spirit-Meld Alloy, many of the components didn't even exist within the records he'd been able to search so far and the base elements unheard of.  The looks he got from people too suggested that his kind was a rarity, not that he surprised by that as many of the planets he'd visited had never seen a lupine humanoid, much less one with such obvious cybernetic components.

Deciding his feet needed a rest he walked into the nearest bar, not so much for any kind of sustenance, but simply because this one looked out of the way and relatively quiet...in fact extremely quiet and he got the feeling that it wasn't his presence that caused it.

Looking around the bar and taking in what he saw he quickly figured out what had caused the silence...a Pilot and judging by the uniform a Cardinal at that.  He still wasn't sure what made people fear them so much, but the readings he got from people barely needed his Spiritual powers, he could smell the fear!

He waved his hand in a negative gesture as a barman moved to serve him, then he realised that most people were not welcome in a bar if they didn't buy anything.

"Grade C biofluid please." he said, one of the few benefits he'd found so far from this dimension was the biofluid, only drinkable by those with cybernetics it was surprisingly tasty, he also believed it was meant to give cyborgs a sense of being drunk, however he'd not managed to get drunk for a few thousand years now, unfortunately being immortal also meant he couldn't get intoxicated.
