A new Candidate arrives(Open)

It was in the middle of the day, and Miralay had just arrived at the ATC and been showed the way to the dorms. It was a weird feeling, to see Candidates and pilots as the cream of the crop, and to today have the chance to become one of the famous heroes of her nation....yet the way it all happened..

Sliding her hands through her hair for a moment, taking in a deep breath, her mind was assaulted with visions of what happened that day she discovered she was actually a psionic. And electrokinesis at that.

The visions had been haunting her...She was part of a team composed of 3 members, they were a pretty tight trio: James cornwall - Heavy infantry, Rodney Jones Jr. - Demolitions expert, and herself...Miralay Steels - combat engineer and trained in close quarter combat.

The location was supposed to be secured, but it was an ambush, the mission was compromised. After being captured, they were tortured for the info that had on the nearby military encampment...Jones and Cornwall died in front of her eyes, middle fingers raised as the booster cables clamped to their bodies sent out high voltage. She was next....but something was different...she could feel the electricity course through her system, through her cybernetic arm.....

The rest could only be described as being in the middle of a storm, raging, unleashed, unchained and uncontrolled.

Out of reflex she had activated her distress beacon...next thing she knew she was at med bay, and then on her way to the ATC.

And so here she was, still wounded from said mission, sleep haunted by nightmares...but with a bright future ahead of her. She smiled as she placed a picture of her squad under her pillow and started putting her belongings to their place.

James....Rodney...you were good soldiers...

Arrow had been informed that she would be gaining a new roommate, and that she would be arriving later that day, but that was about all she knew. Today was a free day so she had spent the majority of it chilling in the rec room, but she hadn't really been able to focus on diversions because she was too twisted up inside from the anticipation of it all. Who was this person? What would they be like?

She really hoped she would be nice. She'd heard so many horror stories and seen so many fights, even heard of candidates getting maimed by other candidates (not to mention what she'd seen on Orientation day--she'd never forget it), that part of her expected the worst but, as always, hoped for the best.

After lunch she headed back to her room to grab her datapad so she could get in some study time. Opening the door and stepping inside, that was when she saw her.

Arrow froze, blinking in surprise, and the first thing she noticed was that she was older than she'd expected.

The next thing she noticed was that her arm was not natural.

"Whoa." The word slipped out before she could help it, taken by surprise as she was. And then, realizing that she was being quite rude and staring openly, she snapped her eyes up to the woman's face and shifted awkwardly, raising a hand in a wave.

"Oh, uh...hi! Sorry. Didn't mean to barge in--" Except, duh, this was her room too! Why was she apologizing? Her cheeks colored. "Er. So. You're new?"

Oh god she was so awkward.

The arrival of Arrow suddenly snapped Miralay out of her bubble, pulling her from her thoughts. Turning around to see who was this person, she came face to face with what seemed to be a teenage girl, probably around the age of 15 by the looks of her. She had been told she would be living with another person and was warned about her being a little shy, so judging by her introduction...this must be the girl in question.

Er. So. You're new?

Miralay blinked a few times before answering, she was slightly taken aback by the awkwardness of the situation, but at least she seemed like a nice kid.

''Yeah! just got here a li'l while ago...I'm Candidate Steels...Miralay Steels, but you can call me Mira when proper etiquette is not required....and you would be...?''

She held out her right hand(the artificial one), hoping a handshake would put her probably to be roommate at ease.

This was going to be an interesting experience to say the least.

Arrow let out a little sigh of relief, her shoulders noticeably relaxing. So far, so good! Even if she'd just made a total fool of herself, at least this woman didn't seem to care, and from what she could tell she seemed pleasant enough.

With a smile, Arrow reached for her hand--and then froze, hand halfway to Mira's, when she saw which one it was.

The artificial one.

She looked up at Mira, then back at her hand, then pushed past her hesitation and gripped hands. Jeez, maybe she'd lost her hand in an accident or something! No need to be rude about it! And it was still just a hand, even if it felt kind of strange.

"Sorry. Ah, nice to meetcha, Miralay! I'm Arrow. Arrow Archer." And then a wry smile curved her lips. "My parents have an awkward sense of humor..."

Miralay was glad to see Arrow calm down a bit, she could be rough and tough, even downright rowdy sometimes, but she was a friendly person at heart and she really wanted to at least get along with someone she was going to live with.

And that's when Arrows hand froze, her gaze going up and down up, and down...and it couldn't be more obvious to WHY she was acting in such a manner. Grinning to the young lady, she made small nudges with her head as if saying: Cmon! grab it! it wont bite you!

And once she finally grabbed it, Mira grinned in satisfaction. The little one had some guts to her! Mira was used to this kind of reaction, especially from civilians or young people. Although the technology was there, it wasn't everyday you bumped into someone with a prosthetic limb, and even then most were made to resemble a natural one as much as possible. Miralays however was not one of these, being a military model designed for performance that she herself tweaked...it kind of stood out.

She tilted her head interrogatively at Arrow about her comment of her parents and sense of humour, waiting for an explanation that she expected to follow, as she was completely lost to what she meant.

Even if she weren't an empath, the silence and inquisitive look were enough to let her know her joke had fallen flat. Shrugging her shoulders, she gave an awkward laugh and rubbed the back of her neck.

"You know, uh, arrows? They're shot by archers? Arrow Archer...? Ha ha?"

"Candidate Archer and Candidate Steels," A woman with a piercing blue gaze halted her footsteps to their door. Her heels made a loud metallic thud as she stopped to turn around and look at them, as if she was already assessing them. Her pitch black hair smoothly followed her pale coloured cheeks. She wore something quite formal, as if she had worked as a head of an office Her dress clothed her poised body that reflected a dignified sense of status and intellect. "Am I interrupting?" Her voice was not of a cheery person, rather it was clear with a tone of authority.

The handshake slowed down...almost to a halt...Miralay felt so stupid right now...HOW COULD SHE NOT SEE IT??? ''Arrow Archer''...it was so obvious it could have been a nailed 2x4 to the face, yet she had been clueless there for a second.

Before she could answer, a woman had halted before the door.

"Candidate Archer and Candidate Steels," -she said to them with a voice filled with authority.

''Officer!'' a quick whisper and warning to Arrow, before taking an official salute, arm high and hand against the side of her forehead, right above the eye. The woman inquired if she was interupting...and in all honesty she was! Interupting an awkward moment to be exact.

''no Ma'am, we were simply getting aquainted Ma'am!''

Arrow could have laughed at the expression that came over that woman's face.

Could have, except whatever laughter was bubbling up was swiftly stifled by an authoritative voice that made her go stiff.

Jolting in alarm, Arrow spun around to face the woman and fell into a rather neat, practiced salute. And it was very practiced, too; she'd spent more time in front of the mirror than she'd like to admit trying to get it just right.

"No, not at all, sir! Ma'am!"

"I see." Reinas simply replied. There was no need for her to have asked the question. It was easy enough for her to sense accurately what was going in the candidates' minds. She found no reason to ever use her telepathy towards anyone, but her Empathy is one she does not mind using especially with new faces.

"Candidate Steels and Candidate Archer," She said in a flat tone. "Please follow me for briefing." Reinas turned around leaving the two alone to catch up to the metallic thuds of her heels. She has mentored a number of Candidates already and any Pilot who has undergone her tutelage would be wise to be close and listen to everything she said. Reinas never told it twice.

((OOC: Reinas sounds a bit strict, but she really is nice SO Hexalion, is your character, Miralay, up to being mentored by Reinas?))

When The lady turned around, Miralay gave Arrow a light nudge with her elbow, followed by sticking her tongue out a bit at her, a wide grin on her face.

I like ya already, candidate Archer - she thought as she did the teasing.

But it was only for a moment, as then she became serious again. Reinas was an officer, and although it was still early to judge the subtleties of her character, she seemed to be the kind of lady that knew how to keep things in charge, and that was a good thing. A tough and solid grip that can both command and respect deserved respect in return...Reinas had the first part for now, and time would show if she had the respect part also.

Moving forward at a quick pace, Miralay stood right behind Pilot Blackliss. She was expecting the day off but it seemed duty called once more, not that she really minded.

''Please forgive my current outfit Ma'am, i was just transferred here a short while ago and have yet to receive the uniform Ma'am!''

She spoke without a hint of hesitation or nervousness: having served in the military since a young age she was used to speaking to officers, probably unlike some...or even most of the gracies she thought.

Reinas gave no regard to whatever her pupils wore, as long as it was not inappropriate. She walked ahead of the two through the corridor, holographic screens following at her sides as she tapped on them to make them disappear. She was pleased with how the candidate called her Ma'am, but somehow this word did not appeal to Reinas at all.

"Candidate Steels and Candidate Archer," She said as she stopped and turned around to the candidates. She held out her hand in a poised manner as if she was meeting someone of her own rank.

"I believe I have not introduced myself in person. My name is Reinas Blackliss, Pilot Royal and present Director in the Seeker Division. I must inform you, Miss Miralay Steels, that I am to assist in your candidate training and be a Mentor for the entire duration of your Pilot Training Program. Drop the 'Ma'am' and address me as 'Reinas' or 'Director Blackliss'."

Once the Pilot stopped, Arrow stood at attention and eyed her hand curiously a moment before shaking it. This was so odd, and she wasn't really sure what to expect. It made sense for her to pull aside Miralay, since she was to be her mentor, but...what was this "briefing" business she'd spoken of?

Arrow didn't like to call special attention to herself, however, so she kept that question to herself and stood by quietly. She would explain in due time and she just had to be patient. It helped having Miralay there, too; as an empath, she just naturally picked up on things, so having a kind, calming force near her kept her own anxiety at bay as she waited.

Once Arrow had finished shaking the officers hand, she took her turn into doing so. Miss Blackliss seemed to be a good officer.

''Thank you Director Blackliss, just the habit within the military...so you wanted to see us about a briefing? i presume there is more to this than simply mentoring business, as you had both Candidate Archer and me follow you...would you mind filling us in?''

She was curious about this briefing, as she had been here for...heck roughly an hour! One thing was sure was that after all of this she was going to have a drink...were the students allowed to drink? better not tell she still had that bottle until she knew the answer then

Giving herself a small mental slap, she drove her attention entirely back to miss Blackliss, wasn't the time to zone off, even if it had been a very tiresome week.

"As you are relatively new to the Pilot Program and as a mentor, it is my duty to brief you on how we do things around here," Reinas said as she continued to walk as before. "Us Pilots are not the normal military  pawns the government has in expense. We are the best of the best Aedolis has; disciplined, intelligent, and resilient. I expect that you act accordingly as a Candidate, you will find this useful as you progress onto later stages. Act like a Pilot and think like a Pilot; that is what I want from you. During this 6-month period of Stage One, you will be participating in regular military drills. Based on your profile, I expect you are adept in these forms of physical trainings."

Reinas held out her left hand to the side and levitated a chip in front of Miralay and Arrow. Bright blue laser-like lines expanded from it to form a holographic screen with a table. It seemed like a schedule with some boxes glowing green and orange.

"This is your schedule Miss Steels," Reinas continued. The way she had said it was like a script, as if she has done it a thousand times. "Every morning you must be on your way to your early meal by 5.30. After that, you must proceed to your theory classes and physical training as shown by the orange markers. Miss Archer, I trust that you are able to escort Miss Steels to her destinations in the ATC until she is familiar with it? I designed her schedule myself to make sure it does not interfere with any of your training or theory."

Having been through a more formal orientation, Arrow was quite familiar with this information. Granted, though this one was a great deal more boring, she vastly preferred it. So far, no one had been crippled. Always a plus in her book!

She nodded vigorously at the Pilot's question, snapping to attention. "Sure can, ma'am!" she said with an anxious smile. That was easy enough; she'd been here several months already and knew the place like the back of her hand--including some of the less traveled places, which she frequented when things got overwhelming enough that she needed space to herself.
