A Cookie Economy (Crono!)

Gauri was about to give away a whole fortnight's work, and she didn't even care, because she was going to eat so many cookies. So that was... A scarf, a pair of gloves and a hat – the full set, in matching pink and grey stripes. One last check to make absolutely certain there wasn't a single dropped stitch, and she folded and stacked them in a neat bundle. Around the pile of goods was wrapped a slightly crumpled ribbon, which she tied into a careful bow with a glance at the clock. Five minutes. She'd be on time, just about, probably. Nothing to worry about, if she set off now.

Holding the package close, she left her apartment in its usual idiosyncratically organised state and walked purposefully through the Citadel's white halls, towards the senior Pilot's quarters. Probably should have shaved today, she thought as she ran her hand distractedly over her head, then realised what she was doing and brought it back down to hold onto the parcel. She was pretty sure where she was going, she'd been there before, and if she couldn't find it this time then it still wasn't a problem. There were other people to ask, heck, there was Naius if she got really desperate, so...

Oh, there it was. A tiny bit late, but this wasn't official business or anything, even if she was dealing with a Pilot Royal. It'd be fine. Balancing the package on one arm, she reached up with the other to ring the doorbell and rocked back on her heels with a mild grin. She'd been kinda looking forward to this. The old lady was comfortable company, which was her favourite kind of company if she had to pick one. Plus, cookies. Perfect!

The smell of baking filled the rooms of her apartments in the Citadel. Rhosyn was always cooking or baking during her off hours. It was a soothing and pleasing activity. She could easily get lost in the motions and the end result was always delicious and enjoyable.

Today, she was making all kinds of cookies: peanut butter, N&Ns, chocolate chip, sugar, and still others. She'd taken a sort-of day off from work to make sure that the cookies would be done in time. It had been close but she managed to get the last of them out of the oven about ten minutes ago - just enough time to get some on platters for both Gauri to take back to her rooms and for the elder Pilot to hand out cookies to her employees tomorrow.

The bell brought the elderly Pilot's attention to the clock on the wall. It was time already! My how time flew. Rhosyn grabbed a platter of cookies from the kitchen and set it on a table in the entrance way before heading over to the door. She could have opened it remotely, sure, but that would have been far less personal than she would have liked.

A soft smile rested on her lips as the door's soft opening sound revealed Gauri's small frame. "Gauri dear! How good of you to come. Has your work been treating you well?" Rhosyn turned to the side a little and motioned the Cardinal in. "Please, come in! I made plenty of cookies for you."

“Ah, it's been fine, had a few new cameras put in around the ATC, y'know, the usual, and man those look awesome!” Spotting what she'd smelt from the doorway, Gauri made a beeline for the platter on the table and picked up a cookie, turning it over in her hands with a grin before taking a big bite. “What is it, triple choc chip? Wow.

Realising she was spraying crumbs all over somebody else's lovely clean floor, she held an embarrassed hand in front of her mouth, chewing industriously until she could speak properly again. Her voice was squeaky enough without having to get past an entire cookie's worth of chocolate. A few awkward moments later, she put a finger to her lips, pulled into an impish smile. “So, what've you been up to, or is that classified?”

So the question was postponing her having to present the older Pilot with her knitting. That was kind of the point. She enjoyed making things for other people, for sure, but she'd never quite got the hang of actually handing anything over. It was always so nerve-wracking. What if she'd made it wrong and not noticed, or if they just didn't like it? What if it was too small, or too big? Gifts were so, so hard.
