The Slums [Creature + Open]
« on: July 17, 2010, 12:00:33 am »
He was feeling particularly adventurous, it wasn't everyday that he got a day off without his brother or Manager Hawke breathing down his neck. As much as he loved Abel, there was a few times where even he wanted a breather. If word had gotten out that Kestrel de'Larmes Beoulve was trekking through the slums of Haviah, chaos would have erupted. Hawke and his brother didn't know about his hobby, it was always fun for the idol to travel into the unknown. Thanks to his habit of buying odd clothing, he was able to find a simple outfit that made him fit in with the lower class.

Kestrel wasn't one for the fashion of the upper class, he preferred the comforts of a simple shirt and a pair of shorts. With each tap on the floor with his worn boots, the Beoulve couldn't help but smile at his ability to blend in with the people on the lower floors. He didn't wear anything extravagant, sporting an old white cotton tunic with a pair of black polyester shorts that reached his knees. His trek through the streets gave him a plethora of views. Some people were arguing with one another, while some thuggish looking men looked at him with raised but piqued eyebrows.

He really wanted to ignore them, he really did. Fate didn't want to smile at him though, and eventually he felt a pale hand grip his slender wrist. Normally someone would have screamed in surprise, but Kestrel merely turned half way to give the man a half smile. Golden orbs twinkled gently at the rugged man, his face torn in confusion at the unexpected smile. The idol saw him turn briefly to look at his companions, and began voicing a variety of questions on what to 'do' to the light haired boy. Using his momentary distraction as leverage, Kestrel suddenly gripped the man's hand and twisted it painfully. It shocked the thug, making his face scrunch in pain before snarling at the short boy who dare attempted to attack him. His lecture wasn't heard, but he did receive a small elbow to his eye.

Now normally Kestrel was a gentle and kind person, and he always favored the pen over the sword. But he overheard their conversation, and managed to piece the words 'robbery' and 'hostage' together. He was capable of defending himself, although physical combat was his brother's forte. Back stepping from the man and his gang, Kestrel made a sudden dash southwards to avoid any whiplash from the gang. With the thug's ego sorely hurt, he popped a vein and commanded his minions to chase after the disguised idol. Five minutes have elasped - that was all he thought in his head. He was becoming somewhat tired, for sprinting without a warm up wasn't the best thing to do. None of the people helped him, preferring to avoid trouble as the gang of five men chased after him wielding a variety of makeshift weapons.

He was in a pinch, and was beginning to hope for his brother or the sight of his manager's classic ak-47 rifle. Eventually he came to a dead end, and there was only a bronze wall standing between him and safety. Kestrel took a deep breath, analyzing his surroundings with a keen eye. The idol's golden amber eyes scanned the area, it was filled with abandoned warehouses where metal scraps and junk lay piled. Hearing the echo of voices shadowing the vicinity of the area, he turned to his right and found a slightly opened side door. No light shined from the inside of the warehouse, but it was either flee or fight. The door was heavier then he thought, and eventually he managed to slide the metal door open before rushing in. It was dark, where the only light shining through was a small window that illuminated a single square on the floor. Kestrel slid the door closed, and sighed.

"I hope they go away though... this place is a bit dark." He was alone for now, there was no one in the warehouse but him... at least he thought so.

The sound of a heavy metal door opening caused a rather horrendous screeching in the warehouse, even worse as it echoed twice. Then more screeching, and a large 'boom' sound as the door closed, and locked in place. The thugs were catching their breath right outside the door, still there... and ready to peek inside once they caught their breath. They heard the sounds from outside, and knew the kid had gone in here. But... what kept them from going in? Well, that was easy. The sound of a sharp hiss echoed worse than the door, and then growling. The men knew instantly: A creature was living in this warehouse, and it wasn't pretty. They gave up on the kid, and fled.

There was a crawling sound as something scurried across the wall, and then it stopped. A faint silhouette, and then he was gone. Where? Behind the kid. The creature growled, closed it's fangs, and... pounced. Was the kid's life already over? No. The creature merely pounced to land get in front of him, and he stood up, like a human would. He swayed, and then went back to crouching. He then...

Waved?

Usually the pop star had some sort of survival lighter on him, but this was one of the rare moments where Kestrel seemingly forgot his trusty gadget. He didn't like dark places that much, for they often strained his eyes when he tried to grasp the location he was in. The Beouvle rummaged through his pant's pockets, but sighed in defeat. His senses were tingling, and the gnawing feeling that the thugs were behind the heavy door wasn't helping. He debated his options mentally, his face scrunching as he tried to come up with a plan to scare them off. Magic was an option, but doing it in Aedolis would be detrimental to his social status and possibly pose a threat to his elder brother's safety.

But there was a hiss, and this immediately caught his attention which put the songwriter on guard. Whatever lay in the darkness growled, scaring the living daylights out of the thugs behind the door. Kestrel placed his ear against the rusty metal, and gave a nod of approval. His first problem was gone, but he wasn't too sure at the 'thing' that growled. Would it pose another problem far more dangerous then any common street thug? He closed his eyes and chanted, before a white and luminous aura glowed and radiated from the mage. "White magic, illuminate the room." Kestrel's tone was gentle and inviting, he didn't want to intimidate whatever creature lay before him. An orb of light manifested from one of his extended hands, hovering slightly above to touch the ceiling of the warehouse.

It provided an adequate light source, just enough to reveal the source of the hiss and growl he heard previously. Being of an ancient age, Kestrel was mildly shocked to see something he hadn't expected. The creature before him was tall, with an intimidating physique that would send any normal human fleeing for their lives. Their height difference was obvious, and he felt a little bit tiny when compared to alien in front of him. A burst of air made blew in front of him from the creature's pounce, but Kestrel gave a curious grin when it gave a friendly wave. His golden eyes glimmered momentarily, before the pop idol approached the creature with a wave of his hand.

"I'm sorry, did I enter this warehouse without your permission?" It was a casual approach, but Kestrel felt no need to put up a defensive front.

Creature saw light, and recoiled a bit from the sudden experience. He hadn't been expecting it, and it showed as he stared at the orb for a few moments, even though he couldn't actually 'see' it. He 'looked' back at the creature that had invaded his private home, and he heard him. He could understand him perfectly, and Creature nodded, and then paused before shrugging, as if it was okay. He hissed quietly, and approached the door before sniffing, and growling. There were other people, but they had fled. And he could smell the rank stench of violence on them. The figure in here, however, had a smell of peace. No blood, really.

He circled him about a meter away, and then sat on the ground like some sort of mammal, and cocked his head at the newcomer. He looked at the ground, and used the dust to spell a strange scrawl. 'Frend?' it said, showing that Creature was sentient, but unable to talk. And had a bit of a problem spelling, as well.

At least he figured out a way to communicate.

Among all the extraterrestrials he could see, this was one that he hadn't expected to see in Aedolis of all places. He had seen the alien's kind decades ago, and the creature before him was rather docile when compared to the rest of his kind. The Beouvle remained calm, a simple grin pulling at the corner of his lips. Needless to say his curiosity was piqued, now he wondered why such an alien was doing in rusty metallic warehouse. His gaze lingered on the creature, watching its actions as it sniffed the door. Part of him wondered why he was doing it, but he recalled that some species could smell things that were incapable for others. "Don't worry I think they're gone, but you have my thanks for driving them off if that was your intentions." Kestrel didn't spot any visible eyes on the creature, but he was sure that it was able to hear his words.

The light spell he used had alarmed the creature, making Kestrel wonder if it was wise to use his abilities around the extraterrestrial. It circled around him, and instantly he knew that was being examined and sized up. He didn't take it as a threat though, his body relaxed as his hands hung loosely at the sides of his hips. The way the creature sat on the ground made him giggle inwardly, it was a strangely endearing sight. Kestrel thought it was a cute act, but then again he had a twisted view on many subjects. After it it squiggled some letters onto dusty floor, Kestrel sat crouched and squinted. The dust was faint, so it was somewhat troublesome for him to figure out the letters among the dusty floor. Being a bit of a nut when it came to spelling, Kestrel automatically erased the message before using his index finger to rewrite the word in its correct spelling. But he understood the alien, although he was a bit sad to see that his new acquaintance was unable to speak verbally.

"Friend? Don't worry I don't mean any harm, but I wouldn't mind being a friend either!" Kestrel gave a soft laugh, chuckling all together. "Pardon my curiosity, but what brings someone of your species to Aedolis? The last member that I saw of your kind was... rather far away from here." He had encountered one of them earlier, although the memory was far more bitter then he'd like to remember. Kestrel wasn't one to hold prejudice against a species for another's actions, for one single person couldn't represent their whole race.

Watching the newcomer, he nodded at the words of him saying friend, and his tailed flicked slightly. It was laid out behind him, showing a state of relaxation, otherwise it would have been closer to his body, as it was a good weapon in combat. He saw him respell the word, and he knew what he did wrong. More effort would be needed for conversing with him. He heard his question, and began writing. 'Hive dead, humans fault. Hunting for food, survived. Clung to vessel in black area, couldn't hold on and shot down here. Tired, so find rest in metal barn.' it said, basically summing it all up. Eventually, he wrote down his name, Creature, and had an arrow pointing to him.

Obviously he had tried a bit more spelling, although his sentence structure was not the best. But he would have gotten the point across to anyone who could read, and he watched the comer before suddenly shooting straight up, and landing on the ceiling. He crawled over to the orb of light and swung his claws at it, obviously curious as to what exactly it was. He couldn't see, but it was giving off heat, and throwing him off.

Mainly because he couldn't touch it.
