Liv draped himself more comfortably over the couch, head propped up in one corner, shifting his feet in Kit's lap.  He dropped the remote to the hollow of his belly and took a minute to struggle out of his jacket.  He flung it over the back of the couch, settled in, and unbuttoned and rolled up his cuffs.

"Okay," he muttered, clicking the terminal to life.  DOMETV had dropped SAS last season, they probably didn't see the brilliancy or the tongue-in-cheek wit.  Or the tongues in cheeks and so on, generally.  So the production values had gone down a little recently, but she might still like it, and, if she didn't, he'd just joke about it until she liked that.  This was why he didn't usually share his shows with people... he felt compelled to entertain.  But she'd had no suggestions of her own, so psh.

The program bobbed onscreen.  Oh.  Sex already!  Sometimes it began that way, flashback to the previous episode.  Miranda was licking her way avidly down Josie's neck, and--quick zoom in on Josie's eyes, which glinted silver--dun dun dun.  That's not really Josie!  Quick cut.  The program settled into its usual start, breakfast at the lab.  Lots of scantily clad women, tank tops and underwear and exploitative camera angles.  Bunch of the hottest half-naked lesbian scientists around.  Was all self-consciously ironical, of course.  They did metacommentary on it.  Liv tweaked a glance Kit's way, shifting his feet in the warmth of her lap.  She looked a little skeptical.

"It's so bad it's good, I promise.  Just like me."  Oh, that's fucking cute, you creepy motherfucker.  Anyway.  He wasn't.  "Hey, that's Miranda, and that's one of her exes--"  He pointed.  "--but she's hooked up with her, last episode, when they thought they were all going to die... I think Mir and Lea should end up together but they cut that off in the first season..."  Liv slid further down on the couch and muffled himself in the collar of his shirt.  "...and now I'll shut up."

Sex... Already.

Kit moved her hands into her lap, resting on Livs ankles. Well, this was interesting. Eyebrows went up into fluffy bangs as the eyes glinted silver. Okay, remember that, silver eyeballs. Slowly she looked to the side, curious if body-snatchers existed now and if their eyes glinted silver, something to over think about later when she was trying to sleep.

Of course, her eyes snapped back to the terminal when the ladies were on screen. Well, at least he had good taste, Kit tilted her head to the side as if doing that would make her see one of the women from a different angle. If Kit was any other woman, watching a bunch of hot lesbians in their underwear would make her feel self-conscious about her body. As it was, Kit liked her body quite nicely.

When Liv spoke, Kit turned to him, gently clearing her throat and trying to keep the blush down. It wasn’t the fact that she was watching this with a friend, it was the fact that she’d just stared at half naked ladies and it didn’t bother her. The random make-out scenes were interesting.

And Liv looked adorable after he’d slid down the couch and said he’d shut up. Kit gave a small chuckle and reached over to poke his leg. “ Hey, I like being told what’s up, I’ve never seen this before and it’s erm...” Kit turned back to the terminal to watch a rather... Juicy... kiss. “ Interesting.”

Hm.

“Hey Liv?” Her hand squeezed his ankle to get his attention for sure. Kit paused for a moment before turning back to the red-headed Pilot, her expression rather confused, her eyebrows curved in and her mouth pulled off to the side, “ Do body-snatchers exist? Or is that just shape-shifters?”

Liv couldn't keep his attention on the program.  He felt comfortable--bodily, anyway.  Without the suit jacket, he settled back into a sort of nothing, just watching and thinking.

It'd become a background to his thoughts in general, as most things eventually did.  Naked bodies, fine, he enjoyed that; but in the distant, faraway, soothing way he enjoyed his everyday vests or after-dinner licorice stick.  Just little things that pinned down the edges of a bewilderingly variable reality.  When he was at his own place he liked to put down the volume and just zone out, in a brightly-lit movie-studio world, in which everyone was a hot lesbian, no fights came without quick resolution or at least angry sex, and falsity could be excused as brilliant parody.  He had trouble doing the same thing in company with other people, though.  Sabela's voice in the back of his head had started to say nasty things.  Pretending you're harmless, for example.  He glanced over at Kit.

She'd been very quiet as a Candidate, quiet but kind, which had always unsettled him.  She'd isolated herself, he supposed.  Shut down.  All that cutesy innocent stuff, the cheerfulness, yeah, right.  Walled in behind all that guardedness and routine.

You know exactly who'll play along with you, boyo.  Right, well, in this case his games had good intentions, it was the only way to deal with the fact that everything was a game.  Probably good intentions.

She'd squeezed his ankle, and Liv blinked out of his thought loop.  The way she'd moved her face made him want to say oh, you're trying to be so cute.  But that'd just be hypocritical, Livvy.   Maybe the cute wasn't fake?  Rare, but possible.

"It's a mystery of the universe," he said, watching her sideways, "is what it is.  Hey, you took the same cryptobio classes I did, you tell me."  He widened his eyes at her.  "Don't tell me you're scared of this, I mean, we're Pilots, Kit dear, however terrifying it may be to believe your nearest and dearest could be not themselves at... all..."  Right.

Immediately she regretted asking him about body-snatchers. Those classes were forever ago, and Kit ducked her head down a little ashamed that she had tried to start a silly conversation. They were scary, but she was a Pilot, even if one pretended to be one of those special psychic killers they wouldn’t last a minute in the citadel, they wouldn’t feel right. At least Kit hoped they wouldn’t feel right. Kit couldn’t tell the difference between people, but she knew a few pilots - hell, a few candidates - could tell who a Pilot was from their imprint... psychic scent.. Thing.

“Yeah, you’re right, Liv.” Kit squeezed his ankle again before leaning back into the cough, shifting slightly when her foot went numb. “If Pilots don’t scare me, I guess I’m immune to everything.” her voice held an obviously more quiet tone, taking Livs words as a gentle less mean way of telling her to shut up ‘cause he was busy zoning out on the weird alien lesby-porn.

While it was an entertaining show, the little claws of Nap Time pulled at Kit and it made it hard to keep her eyes open. For a moment Kit turned from the show to focus on Liv. It was odd, seeing him so... Not talking. Maybe it was a bad idea, asking him to hang around for a little longer, he had seemed zoned out, concentrated, before she’d squeezed his ankle the first time.

Kit sucked her lower lip into her mouth and pretended to watch the show before looking down at her lap. Well, at least he seemed comfortable enough with her to put his feet in her lap, though, that was probably so he could lay better, she did take up the rest of his leg room. His leg room? Kit felt herself frown, her thoughts showing up on her face, this was her couch. It wasn’t his leg room, it was her damn couch.

Clearing her throat when another mini-make-out scene drew up on the screen. Kit moved her hands to partically hug the arm of the chair, one arm bent so she could use it as a make-shift arm pillow and the other was flopped over it for extra comfort. Kit really did try to watch it, she wanted to stay away to watch it, but without noticing she’d fallen asleep against the arm of the chair. Of course, if Liv looked her way he would see her with her eyes closed obviously not watching the lovely T.V show.

Liv felt Kit shift, the fabric of the couch tightening.  He resettled his feet and felt... mostly awkward.  He'd avoided her gaze when she'd glanced at him and just kept watching the show.  Now he looked back, even though things had gotten a little hot and heavy and blurry-pink on screen.

Kit had her eyes shut, pillowed on her arms, face relaxed into a sleepy childish pout, lips a little parted, breathing heavily.  Ack.  The show had put her to sleep.  That hadn't been exactly what he'd expected.  Maybe SAS really had gone downhill since the network switch.

Liv fumbled for the remote resting on his stomach and shut off the terminal's sound, then pushed himself upright, laying it aside.

"I'm sorry."  He scooted across the couch and slid in next to Kit, putting one hand on her shoulder.  "Hey, hey, Kit."  He moved his hand back and forth on her shoulder, trying to rouse her quietly.  "C'mon, your bed's ready and everything... Kit..."

Movement that she wasn’t doing.

Kit’s arm flew out and it connected with something, the back of her hand making a smacking noise and her knuckles smooshed against a cheek. Sitting up rapidly she froze. “Liv! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to hit you in the face!” Her hands moved to his face, her thumb running over the bridge of his nose before she realised what she was doing and her hands snapped back and she moved to the side to shimmie off the couch.

“Sorry for falling asleep. I...” Kit cleared her throat and offered a smile, hanging over the side arm of the couch before flicking her eyes towards the terminal, the sound was off but the show was still on. She fell asleep during the show. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep during the show. It’s not boring, I swear! It’s actually interesting to... some degree.” another smile and she moved to the back of the couch, to wander her way to her room.

“ I think I’ll catch some sleep. You can watch this here if you don’t want to miss any by going back to your apartment.” Kit smiled again and leaned over the back of the couch, eyes still hooded slightly, sleepy.

"Ouch!  I--hey--"  Liv's mouth opened in a surprised 'o' and he held it there while Kit reached out to touch his nose, then reeled back hastily.  He blinked.  These were little moments that had sort of unexpectedly built up toward... did Kit want sex?  He could go for some at the moment.  Sure, he hadn't really thought it was going this way, but she... with the hair and the lips and the...

Nope, she'd decided to flee around the couch.  Maybe she'd had enough of his cynicism.  It could get in the way of happy, fluffy things, like physical contact and friendship.  And mental health.  Liv gathered himself and leaned forward, shaking the life back into one foot, which had gone numb and now exploded in pins and needles.

"Aw, no."  Kit had come around to stand behind the couch, looking down at him.  Liv turned until he sat sideways and blinked up at her.  Then, with the haste of thoughtless decision and heedless horniness, he pushed himself up on one knee and put both hands on her waist.

"Can't I stay?"  He put his face very close to hers.
