__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description:
Jesse is blind, and his eyes are a dull light blue. He has medium brown hair that he keeps artfully messy. His face is slightly rounded and young-looking, and his body shape is lanky as well as somewhat curvy.

He switches up his style of dress every now and then, though he generally wears something that conforms to his body’s slight curves and throws on something made of leather over that. He especially likes white and light purple shirts (either button ups or tight t-shirts), with tight black pants, a black leather blazer, and dark mauve boots.

Personality:
Jesse could be described as a drama king. He overreacts to situations just for the heck of it, and makes up emotions that he doesn’t feel if he feels a normal reaction would be too boring.
He is unlucky, and finds himself in situations that are usually improbable. Of course, his irresponsible actions only serve to make these situations worse. Despite his lack of luck, he is quite driven, and tries very hard to accomplish his goals. To this end, he will be deceitful and take advantage of others.

He is narcissistic, and even if he can’t see himself, he maintains a mental image helped out by having Melanie compliment him. Even when flirting, he tries to use his own looks as opposed to flattering whomever he’s speaking to.

Magic/Abilities:
Jesse has a very odd form of psychometry. Instead of being able to read thoughts from an object, he has a sensitivity to the emotions and ideas of the metaphysical plane. When Melanie is purposely hiding, he can still pick up on her general feelings or mental images. He has shown no other psionic skills.
Jesse is blind, but his hearing makes up for it. Partly because of his psionic ability, he can also hear Melanie and other spirits not within the physical plane.

Relationships:
Melanie talks to him and relays information he wouldn’t normally know. She tells him what people look like, where they are, helps him navigate, and other such tasks. He asks her opinion to pick out outfits, and enjoys her flattery. He treats Melanie like an older sister.

He loves his father, but felt he was too much of a burden. He left so that his father wouldn’t have to work so hard and take care of him.

History:
He did not grow up in Aedolis, but moved there for a more independent life. He grew up on Edanith, with his father. He had sight early in his life, but lost it around the age of 11, at the same time he gained his psionic ability.
Neither he nor his father knew he had become a psychic, and they had a hard time adjusting Jesse to his new lack of sight. Melanie found him when he was 14, and he talked to her like any other person. He found out a year later that she was dead, but it didn’t faze him much.

When he turned 16, he moved to Aedolis to get a job and become self-sufficient. His most prized possession is a photograph of his father.
He hasn't been discovered as a psychic yet, since he doesn't have to 'activate' his powers, but it's only a matter of time. However, since his move, he has learned about the Pilots and how they identify psychics. Melanie helps by identifying potential Pilots.

Other:
He needs more friends! He does like to flirt and get his way, but after a couple times taking advantage of someone, he’ll start liking them. He probably also needs to meet people who don’t think he is beautiful.
He may be blind, but he has a faithful seeing-eye-ghost. He can’t fight, but he’ll know if someone makes a move for him and will be able to move if warned in time. Surprise actions will catch him off guard.

React to the strangest things? If by that, Kay meant he reacted to things that were considered strange, than yes. That upside-down look she was giving him wasn't soothing his nerves any, and his eyes narrowed at the obvious innocent act she put on when she stood up.

Then she made a sexual innuendo. Kit was certain that his expression couldn't get any flatter than it was at that moment; it was as though his mind had up and left.

"...What." The only word he managed to speak was quiet and monotone, spoken out of reflex more than any sort of conscious effort on his part.

He waited for his mind to react and give him something more to say, but it seemed to be waiting for her to deny the implications she had placed on her statement. She couldn't have possibly meant that anyway. Not a chance. ...Okay, she really needed to stop undressing him with her eyes now. If she kept staring, he'd blush.

Kotone complied with both of their requests, filling one as much as her own and the other almost to the top. She then set the ladle aside and covered the steaming pot with the lid before setting the bowls in front of them both. "Here."

Her eyes lingered on Sophia, but they eventually moved to Felix, a small grin finally crossing her face again. She went back to grab her own bowl and spoon, remembering her soda as well, and settled down to eat with them.

"I'll start fixing up the cake in just a bit," she promised, blowing on a spoonful of stew before sticking it in her mouth.

It wasn't bad, considering it hadn't marinated yet. A few red peppers would have added a subtle kick to it though. She made a mental note to try it out next time.

Kotone couldn't stop the small grin at her drummer's enthusiasm. It didn't ever seem to dry up, even when the subject was as simple as spoons. She plucked a spoon from his grasp with a "thanks," and set it in one of the bowls. Placing them on the counter next to the pot of stew, she turned off the heat and lifted the pot's lid, stirring the contents with a nearby ladle.

"Yup. Done."

She was gratified that she had prepared the meal ahead of time; that made it so much faster to put together. Of course, it would taste even better in a couple days, when the flavors had time to marinate and combine, but it would still taste good now.

"How much you guys want?" She ladled stew into her own bowl, filling it only a little more than halfway, before setting it aside and hovering over the next.

There was such a difference between the size of their hands, or so it seemed to Kit. It shouldn't have been so different, considering their similar heights, but he felt as if his hand could cover hers completely. He might have contemplated the useless notion longer had he not been distracted by Kay bending over completely backwards, both hands and feet on the floor. Why was she so damn good at breaking his calm facade? If his eyes went any wider, he felt as though they pop straight out of his skull.

"...Yes, I see." He grabbed his cap off the floor and situated it back on his head, taking a couple breaths as well. "Do you purposely attempt to astound me? I do not think you have ever acted in a way I have predicted."

Except for the escape, perhaps. He had expected her fear, and he had not been wrong. The speed at which she had recovered afterwards, however, caught him off guard again. She had bounced about and cheerfully killed toasters, as though she hadn't been in a life-or-death situation just before. Odd. Though... he didn't mind.

'Wasn't exactly how I planned it out...' He sighed, gently rubbing his chest to feel for anything abnormal.

Still, she had fun? Either that or she was just being polite. Kit ran a hand through his hair self-consciously.

"I see." Bones groaning in distress, he slowly lifted himself to his feet and rotated his arms one at a time. He then offered a hand to Kay. "My apologies."

It was the second time he had apologized, but the first he had meant for the entire incident. It had startled him in some way, though he still wasn't sure how, and the formal speech came easier in his confusion.

Well, ginger ale then, since neither of them were picky. Kotone rolled her eyes at their indecisiveness and grabbed three cans before closing the fridge. She plopped two of them down in front of her... guests and popped the top on the third for herself.

"Should be done soon." She sipped at her soda. "Do you remember where the spoons are? We'll do this buffet style."

She set her can on a nearby counter, moving to grab some large blue bowls out of a cabinet.

Oh, awesome. =] I think it's okay to create your own myths for your characters. Heck, I have a "werewolf" on here and he's different from contemporary ideas. (it's Gaël)
I actually don't have a Candidate character right now, and I'm starting to wish I did. I can never play with those characters. =/

I know in the welcome post you mentioned another character you were gonna get up here. I'd likely be interested in them, if I have a character in their range. So gimme a shout if I have any chars that might interest you, 'kay?

I have a question. Does Asha have psionic abilities? I mean, I guess she'd have to, but I'm curious as to what they are.

EDIT:
Ah, I lied, I have another. x3 What stage Candidate is she?

Though the smile wasn't the most reassuring, Kit did have the small thing on his face. Honestly, his sternum felt rather tender--he'd have to check that for fractures later--and his tailbone was sore, but other than that probably just bruising. Was he a man or wasn't he? He could tough it out.

"Fine." With both of them being... relatively unharmed, he slowly pushed himself to a sitting position. His legs were to his side, and he supported himself with one arm.

"Can you get up?"

He noticed his hat and goggles on the floor nearby, but didn't bother with them yet. Scooting closer, he pushed both of his arms underneath Kay, one at her head and one at her back, to help her into a sitting position.

A small smirk appeared on his face. The little guy was persistent, he'd give him that. Llyr's good cheer quickly disappeared when his head was grabbed and moved though.

"Ah—! Ow..." Closing his eyes seemed to help him focus on pushing the pain back. "No. It was obviously something soft and light that split my head."

Whoops. There came his sarcasm. He really did detest pain. Once his head was released, he tried to listen to what the little sadist was trying to tell him, but it was so hard to concentrate.

"No sleep. Got it. Wait, you gonna cut it right here?"

He knew she should have tried harder to understand. His brain was taking a while to process what was really meant, but the only conclusion he was getting was: less pressure equals less pain. That was good, wasn't it? Doctors had cutting tools, and he would feel better. He should get that done before he fell over while navigating the hallways. Wouldn't that be embarrassing.

"Now is better than later." At least, he supposed so.

[OOC: I know you don't, Miss Atlus. xD]

"Electronica in Velvet Room," she responded automatically.

Kotone had finished putting everything in the pot and slapped a lid on it before setting the timer. She turned to face the two who had joined her in the kitchen. Sophia looked rather uncomfortable, so Kotone rolled her eyes and motioned to a chair next to Felix. The drummer himself was spacing off, as per usual.

"But it's affectionately known as 'A Rave for Everyone's Souls'."

Since dinner would take a bit, even with the ingredients all cooked and merely needing some time to simmer together, she decided to bring out a few drinks at least. She sashayed to the fridge, singing to the last chorus, and opened the door.

"What do you want?" She gestured to the small array of sodas lined in the door. Some were cans, some were bottles with pop-caps, and a couple were smaller bottles with clear marbles sealing them shut.

Even though she knew the sugar would completely contradict her effort to make a healthy meal, she couldn't help herself. She was less of a sugar enthusiast and more of a sugar slave. At least one portion of every meal she had was required to contain sugar, whether it be natural from fruit or unnatural from soda.

Ah. Well, I think that yes, an ability could work subconsciously. I think it would be a specific form of telepathy. Some characters are probably capable of noticing the psionics involved though, so it might not be completely stealthy. And you should probably warn people and ask if they are okay with some very slight godmodding.

The clipboard went up half a foot as Katie brightened. "Yes, Miss Chiyoko."

Katie had been taught respect, and sometimes had it pounded into her, so she reflexively chose to use the last name.

Her respect was well earned in this case. Miss Chiyoko showed nothing but dedication to her job and unwavering professionalism. Katie, having been in military training before this, knew how difficult it was to be so unflinchingly calm and serious. Also, she mentioned that she merely did her job, with nothing unnecessary included. Katie tried not to hold opinions on the scientists--they were people too--but she often found the personalities and extreme requests of some distasteful or horrifying.

"I agree. It's not as though we all met out of personal grudges. Besides, it's our own faults that we were sent here..."

It was quite clear who she was referring to when placing blame; her face fell and she stared at her standard grey shoes.

'It's for not being good enough,' she added in her head. 'At least I didn't come because of criminal acts.'

She changed expressions to pleasantly surprised when she caught the clipboard sitting between her and the scientist at a height just above her own head.

Answered Questions / Re: Psychic questions
« on: September 25, 2012, 09:06:30 pm »
Yes, as far as I know, a number of characters on here are undetected psychics. It definitely helps if their abilities are subtle. I don't know if they could only work on a subconscious level; most people would just consider it a lack of training to control psionic ability. Of course, you could probably make it believable.

Aedolis can identify people fairly well, especially if someone is being scrutinized by a Pilot, or other psionic authority, directly. From a distance, using Axis Point, they mainly only search for groups. So, a single person isn't much of a concern, and the person can't be identified, only detected and located. Also, people can only be found while using their abilities.

Yes, psionics are usually suppressed by mordecai. However, a stronger psychic can also try to subdue a weaker psychic (with telepathy, I assume).

I do not know how far Axis Point can reach. It is described as the "nexus of Aedolis, the Network, and all manifested psionic power within its home galaxy." So, I assume it can reach pretty much anywhere in the galaxy. That is probably why it's so exhausting to use, and the reason they only search for large groups.

Helpful? y/n?

A small grin worked its way onto Kotone's face as she considered her small victory. Felix hadn't actually eaten the vegetables yet, but she'd worry about that when it came time. Lucky for everyone in the suite, she already had some cooked beef, chopped vegetables, and beef stock stored in her kitchen and ready for use. All she really had to do was throw them and a few spices together and heat it up. It was so simple she wanted to pat herself on the back.

Instead, she nodded at both Sophia and Felix. "Good. I'll get started now."

She then swept to the sliding doors she had been staring at earlier and pushed them aside. She didn't invite them in, but she didn't tell them to keep out either.

Starting the food earlier wasn't in her plans, but she would just have to improvise, given the situation. Dinner came pretty late for her normally, and the drummer didn't seem to care one way or another, but she would make it at a normal time for the new girl.

She set about getting the needed ingredients out of the fridge and putting a large pot on the stove to heat. She pushed a button on the wall and music poured out of the speakers she had installed in her kitchen. Upbeat electronica music filled the room, and Kotone sang along as she cooked.

Oh, ew. The enthusiasm was great for business, but Kotone was certain that if she took anymore happy people into her life she would die of an overdose of peppiness. It had to be possible, especially with the drummer to her band being the way he was.

Still not facing the DJ directly, she took a sip of her drink to get the taste of sunny attitude out of her mouth. The soft clink as she set her glass down was followed by another side-long glance at the woman who now sat beside her.

"Getting a feel for the new crowd." She sighed and placed her chin on the back of her raised hand. "Honestly. There's talent, but most of them won't get anywhere."

It really did take a fair amount to make it to idol status. A combination of charm, flirting, talent, and connections. Money didn't go awry either, but she knew Felix hadn't used that to catapult his way up. She glanced at the DJ beside her and started going through her mental checklist.

Talent, yes. Charm and flirting, perhaps. She'd have to wait until further into the conversation. Connections? Well, those were difficult to get, especially if you weren't born into them.

Right, custom parts did tend to be specialized; that was the whole point.

"It's fine, I get it." He thought a bit more before speaking again. "If it's really putting out that much, where did all the extra power go before...? Doesn't matter much though."

He clapped his hands together excitedly. If you weren't sure where to start, try something and see how it worked out. A lot of this business was learn as you go, especially in custom work. He'd be careful of course, since he didn't want to irreparably damage something, but he needed to try something, to gather information if nothing else.

"Well, let's see if we can't mess with the section of the grid supplying power to the guns then, huh? See what we can come up with there. I'm thinking we could probably get something to filter how much juice gets to the weapons. Then, no worry for overloading." He frowned thoughtfully. "At least in that section. Might have to deal with some spilling into other systems."

An eye roll was necessary here. Felix refused the elevators, despite the fact that they were undoubtedly faster than he could ever be, something that Kotone could not understand. Not that she understood any of his decisions to begin with.

Sophia admitting to liking sweets definitely drew her interest. Another who enjoyed sweet treats? Welcome to the band; when can you move in? She wouldn't show her interest so quickly though. She had a reputation to maintain, especially around the new girl. She kept her head turned slightly away, pretending to contemplate the sliding doors on the far side of the room that lead to the kitchen and dining area.

"I'm making beef stew regardless." However, her gaze sharpened and turned to Felix when she said the next part. "You will eat all of the vegetables this time."

If he didn't, he wouldn't be getting any of her flat blackberry cake.
