Solar System / Re: Awkward Times in Outer Space (Flaaaakey!)

Slowing down his scrubbing of the counter--he was nearly done anyway--Kit turned his head to get a better look at the stuttering girl. It was odd that she was... was she blushing? He wasn't sure, but that could mean that she wasn't entirely unaware of her own advances. But he was just hoping now.

Shaking his head, he decided to apologize seriously for the second time that day. It would be so much easier if she knew how he was actually feeling, but he'd never been one for showing blatant emotion.

"No, I understand. I'm sorry if my reaction made you, ah... feel guilt. That was not my intention. I..." And here he paused for a moment to breathe before plowing on. "I was, am, embarrassed that I took your joke so seriously."

He wanted to explain better, but found he couldn't force anymore words out. It was painful enough to admit his social clumsiness in this area of interactions. Even so, how had she seen his discomfort? Or better yet, known of his slight longing for it to have been real? She said she didn't mind read, but he'd heard enough stories. Some psychics did it passively. He wasn't entirely sure how he should feel about that.

That sounds fun~
LLyr needs some mechanic bros. It'd be awesome.
And... Since the SJ docks at Cancer fairly regularly, Qiu would be happy to have some new friends. He really needs to get out more anyway. x3

Miss Chiyoko was making less sense than she should have. Where did that speech come from? It didn't sound like a continuation of what had been said aloud. So, was she listening to what was thought? But for what reason? Katie wasn't sure what to think of it, though it didn't really bother her. The scientist was at least skimming her thoughts--she remembered that some other scientists did the same--but she was only using the knowledge to... help her feel better? It didn't make any sense.
Perhaps she was simply stating the facts as she saw them. She did manage to degrade the human lifespan in her spiel.

Katie also glanced at the door, following the movement of the only other in the room, but turned back when she realized that nothing was happening there.

"I understand." If she continued to improve, she would remain interesting. Maybe even interesting enough to keep the attention of this more professional scientist. Said scientist was facing away, cold and calculating gaze not on her, giving Katie a bit more courage to figure out the situation directly. She squirmed in her seat before voicing her thought.
"Will we continue?"

@ Moonie: Hello! -waves back- I don't think so, considering the length I've been missing, but we should start right now. I like the look of Nicky. =] (Random compulsion to look through people's character sheets? I think so.)

@ Rhi: Oh! I just started getting used to this format, so it's no biggie. I am very happy to be back! I'll get started on one of my multiple responses then. I think I'll apologize ahead of time for if my grasp of the characters is a little bit rusty.

The Frontier / Re: Not So Lonely Traveling [Rhi-Rhi]

A small smile worked its way across her face. At the very least, this complete stranger wasn't dismissing her way of living. He seemed to not mind in the least what she did.

The town, once it came into view, made Maite actually pay attention. There looked to be a couple places for gathering, though if they didn't charge her more than she could afford she'd be surprised. The town was small, but far enough out of the way that any travelers would have little choice but to oblige to the demands if they wanted a good place to stay. Fantastic.

She immediately decided to find someone to work for instead; perhaps she could get a room out of the deal. If not... outside it was.

"Cozy, huh. The size may be an issue for gettin' me a place to stay." Especially if no one wanted her assistance for the time she was here. "I haven't been. I've passed it by though, fairly recent. There's a few new buildings started."

Sorry! Especially to everyone I was in the middle of an RP with. This entire semester was... bleh. (For several reasons that I won't bore you with.)

I'm making efforts to at least catch up with whatever I had left behind here, though if anyone is no longer interested in one of those threads, I completely get it; no replies necessary. It has been months.
So, I'm going to wait and see what threads I can get back up and running again before I start anything new.

So yeah, sorry I went poof with no explanation. u__u I'm happy to start up again though!

Sassy Juice / Re: New Day, New Medic [Flakeblood!]

While trying to watch the Doctor's every movement—something insanely difficult while his eyesight kept going fuzzy—Llyr did manage to finally catch the fluidity with which the smaller man moved. It wasn't as though he hadn't seen other species with graceful movements, but those were sparse. Further, most of those species moved more like predators. Smooth, graceful, but powerful and lethal. Coiled muscle.

He always thought it detracted from the pure elegance that was to be had if the movements were softer, gentler, and dancer-like. Suppleness and curves. It was the curves his people had, that he had. It was why he couldn't, or maybe wouldn't, become a fighter. He had seen few species like this, and even fewer humans. He blamed that partly on the job though. He wasn't exactly attending any extravagant and high-class performances. Not only were there none nearby, he couldn't afford it.

The doctor commented on his height, but Llyr was eying the scalpel now held in his hand. All his effort was for naught, however, since the little lizard moved up onto the cot and took hold of some dreadlocks. The sharp, slicing pain that ran along his head immediately afterward cut off any coherent thoughts about anything other than his stinging scalp.

"Mother of pearl!" He grabbed either side of his head, though he was careful not to go anywhere near the used-to-be bump.

A spurt of dark red and sickly yellow-white flowed from the wound before it began closing itself. He felt as the skin around the area began a slight secretion of a clear, sticky substance to help bind the wound together. He moaned. How he detested pain.

"Towel?" he whimpered. He wanted to wipe off the blood and such that came from the bump before it got trapped in his clear scab.

(OOC: Oh yes, haha. B3 )

Sponge came to a halt as Kit froze, not breathing. He swallowed to get some moisture in his throat before trying to communicate.

"What...?" He trailed off. What was she disappointed in?

It had to be coincidence she said that after he was thinking much the same thing. But then... she wouldn't have sounded so surprised by her own thought. Maybe. Attempting to get his breathing back to normal, he briefly closed his eyes before scrubbing with more force. The stain he was working on was almost gone. He cleared his throat.

"What was that, Kay?" Embarrassed or not, he wanted to know what she was muttering to herself.

"Rory," he said, nodding hello. "I don't believe it's afternoon yet. However, I've been up all night; my sense of time is skewed at the moment."

He finished his own pancakes, watching his Captain poke at Riot's while Sarah dug into... he was pretty sure that was raw meat, as per usual. He glared at the "monkeys" comment though. Regardless of the fact that yes, they were taking apart a beautifully built ship, he liked to think that their skills were far superior to any primal relation of the humans'. It wasn't as though they were taking a sledgehammer to it! He took a long sip of tea rather than retort, murmuring "caffeine" after swallowing in the hopes it would cure his sudden mood change.

As if by some cosmic joke, a loud curse came through his earpiece. He listened for a bit as his co-workers communicated through insults before pressing the earpiece button to interrupt with, "What happened?"

"Nothing. Just Guy being clumsy."
"Dammit! Weren't my fault! Someone's loosening this stuff in the wrong order!"

"Well, correct it then. I do not want another shift just because you managed to break something with your BS."

"Yeah, yeah."
"Go to sleep your highness, you're PMSing."

Eye twitching in annoyance, Llyr glared at nothing in particular and didn't respond. Hopefully, whatever it was that had happened did not require his presence, and he would actually be able to sleep after this meal, as suggested. He didn't think he could stand anymore senseless behavior without exploding at someone, and the tea wasn't improving his mood. He half listened as the other mechanics went back to work. Sarah was right; his workmates acted primal often enough.

Another sip brought his tea below half of his mug. Even if it didn't make him easier to get along with, it was tasty, and not to be wasted.

Oh ho, so the little lizard had some spunk too. He'd better get his ass moving then. Doctor's orders and all.

"Dear me, not the mess hall. Ykan would hit me for that. ...Again." He muttered the last part.

Llyr pushed against the wall in order to get his feet back underneath his rather tall and lanky body. His sandals hindered him a bit, but he eventually stood up completely. He carefully moved to the cot that had come from the wall, plopping onto it in a much less dignified manner than his movements earlier that day.

"No sleeping, no laying down," he repeated to himself.

One of his hands hovered over his head-bump before he decided against touching it. There was enough pain the last time. Instead, he watched the little lizard sanitizing himself.

(Ehe. >w< Indeed. One of my favorites.)

"Ocean," she repeated, lifting her head in a slight nod. The handshake was firm, something Kotone noted with approval.

After she removed her hand and took another sip of her drink, she shrugged and flopped her hand back and forth.

"I don't care how you shorten it. My name, I mean." She rolled her eyes to the DJ currently on the stand, taking a couple mental notes before turning back. "You're the most... interesting person I've talked to tonight."

"I... see."

He turned around and stepped back into the kitchen, picking up his sponge where he had left it and began scrubbing at the sooty stain he had been working on previously.

Kit wasn't entirely sure why he felt so... disappointed? Yes, he was disappointed. Given their differences and his moral code, he knew he shouldn't have been. He knew that in his head; the rest of him didn't care. Embarrassment hadn't been the only reason he had flushed.

Even though Kay was responsible for the mess, he couldn't quite bring himself to say anything aloud yet. His pride was still smarting at being so easily fooled.

Rambert raised an eyebrow at the odd laugh that came from the Candidate in front of him. Looks like he made the kid nervous. Ah well, it couldn't be helped really. He was going to have to get used to Pilots on a closer level anyways, seeing as he'd end up working with at least one soon enough. Or perhaps it was Rambert's personality specifically that made him nervous? He knew he could seem kinda rough.

The kid did finally start though. Rambert noticed the punch aimed at him, but also saw that Raniero's stance indicated a change in footwork. Sneaky.

He raised his left hand to grab the kid's fist, and braced his legs to absorb the impact of the kick. When both appendages touched him, apparently completing a small circuit, he got a shock. The small amount of electricity made his wings flutter agitatedly.

The kick was rather good, though not what Rambert had been expecting. He might get a light bruise from that, but the kid wasn't being serious enough. Hopefully, he'd calm down, given some time, and focus more. Some others might not have noticed his feint had they been fighting him, but he had left himself open.

He used his grip on the Candidate's fist to pull him closer before using his other hand to deliver an open-palm hit to his torso. He made sure not to use more force than necessary to put some space between them.

"Protect your vital areas kid."

"Yeah, super lucky." Her words were coated in sarcasm, but Kotone couldn't hide the smile at his enthusiasm.

She stood up, leaving Sophia to answer the exuberant drummer, though she did stay in hearing range. She started grabbing ingredients from the closest cupboards, as well as measuring tools. Into the biggest bowl went the dry elements: flour, baking soda, cinnamon... She measured and mixed more ingredients until they were one homogenous mass.
Eventually, she left the bowl on the counter in order to grab some other components, like butter and an egg, from the fridge. Ah, and maybe some apple juice to give the taste more depth. All the while, she listened to the other two people in her apartment.

How Felix had recognized Sophia off-stage was beyond her. Kotone knew for a fact that getting dressed up for a concert made you look almost like someone else entirely. Then again, the only people who's appearances she actively noticed, besides herself, were the others in her band. She likely wouldn't have recognized Sophia as Ragna even if she had known her better.

The question was how the new girl would fit into the band, if she accepted. Kotone was still apprehensive. Well, she'd trust Felix. It was his band, and he'd done well enough without her cynical outlook on potential members.
She threw the final ingredient, blackberries, into the large bowl and began folding them into the sticky batter.

TRIM / Re: Who Does That Purposefully? [Blue]
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:41:26 pm »
Again Miss Chiyoko started explaining something that Katie couldn't quite grasp. She understood what was said, but she felt as though there was an underlying meaning she was missing. Was she adding on other reason why she was here? Unlikely. All of the reasons she was giving were connected; they meant something. Could it be that... she was displacing Katie's own reasoning? The meaning behind her comments couldn't possibly imply that... that...

'It wasn't my fault?'

She wouldn't have been sent here if she wasn't at fault though. Other Candidates got through training; she didn't because she was—

...Weak.

Katie immediately shook her head back and forth to clear the thought from her head. Anyway, Miss Chiyoko was probably just being accurate. This calm, smart scientist wouldn't be here if she truly thought so ill of her work. That's why she treated the subjects with civility. No, no, she was a professional. No way she'd let feelings influence the way she worked.

Katie decided to terminate her line of thought before she said something stupid aloud. However, she wanted to at least acknowledge she had heard what was said.

"Uhm, yes ma'am Miss Chiyoko."

...Brilliant. That sounded very intelligent. She kicked herself mentally and waited for her next task.

Since she didn't really have any response to the first comment, Kotone just hummed, neither agreeing or disagreeing. What did she care if her view seemed harsh? It was the truth, plain and simple. The colorful woman beside her seemed to know that though—and was still content—so she let that subject be. For now at least.

The other comment, she might as well respond to. She didn't want to completely sate the DJ's curiosity though, it just wasn't her style. So, who should she be? Since she was just watching tonight and not drawing attention, she could introduce herself as...

"Kotone." She sipped at her drink, paused, and actually turned her body to face the woman beside her. "I prefer it shortened though, so..."

She shrugged, heaved a dramatic sigh, and held out her hand to shake.

Her guests' flailing was pretty amusing, she had to admit. She had grown up with scalding food, so she kept forgetting others didn't feel the same way. The stew carved a path of heat all the way to her stomach, warming her from the inside. Her skin tingled as the blood pumped closer to her skin in an effort to dispel the extra warmth. She enjoyed food that heated her throat and flushed her skin; it made her feel alive.

She smirked. "Suit yourselves. Don't care either way."

She'd be making the cake soon, so they might as well be still eating rather than sitting, bored. Another spoonful left her bowl nearly empty, so she decided to finish off her ginger ale before baking.

"So Felix," she started, still sipping at her drink, "Where exactly did you drag her from?"

Kotone glanced at Sophia before focusing on her drummer again. Hopefully, it hadn't been anything too important... or personal. Every now and then--who was she kidding, quite often he was oblivious to what people thought of him, especially on a first meeting. He'd drag them off or start following them around without a thought as to whether they wanted him to. She didn't care anymore, it was part of her life, but she wanted to know why Sophia let herself be pulled all the way here.

There was the response. His face grew warmer as blood rushed underneath his skin and gave it a red tint. He couldn't work up the effort to move away; he was more engrossed with saying something that would stave off her advancements.

"I did not."

That... was not what he meant to say. However, a flat out denial was all he was capable of at this point. Why was she flirting? And with him? He could feel the blood pooling in his face now, turning him a richer shade of red. During the night they had... slept...together... she had seemed so naive to his worries. Obviously she knew what he had been worrying about, but she didn't think it meant anything to share a bed. She had innocent intentions.

Now, with her suggestive demeanor, he was having a harder time controlling himself. Where had her attitude flip come from?

Occupation: Forcibly retired real estate agent
Residence: In Aedolis, Following Jesse

[pic here]

“I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.”
Mark Twain

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description:
It’s hard to determine what she might have looked like before she died, as she is now varying shades of grey and silver. Her hair is fairly dark, hanging loose down her back, and her eyes are light. Her typical body shape is slightly chubby. Her clothing is not consistent and will change forms even as she moves around, though she generally wills her outfit into something that matches whatever style Jesse is wearing that day.

Personality:
Melanie, having died and lost the ability to communicate or affect events around her, has lost the drive to make any goals for herself. She is content helping to fulfill the wishes and dreams of whomever she follows around. She needs a leader to follow. Despite the responsibility she feels to follow through with her tasks, she is incredibly irresponsible, and doesn't think though the steps required to get from point 'a' to point 'b'. This bad habit of hers also makes her more sympathetic to others who make mistakes, and she is quick to forgive people whether they ask or not.

Magic/Abilities:
She is dead. Therefore, she is unaffected by anything on the physical plane. She can also change her body's consistency. By making her body denser, she can become visible to anyone with even a slight bit of metaphysical sight. She can also disperse her body to varying degrees for different results. In this way, she can become undetectable, make her way through small spaces, and see other people's auras. It is harder to communicate with words in this state, but she can still give off general feelings Jesse can pick up on.
Even though a few psychics have seen or "felt" her--most with a form of psychometry, empathy, or extremely sensitive illumokinesis/illumopathy combination--Jesse has been the only one able to actually hear her spoken words thus far.

Relationships:
She used to be engaged and had two children who, after Melanie’s death, went to stay with the man she was to marry.

Jesse is the only person she has followed after death; she treats him like a little brother and son. She loves to compliment him, and also acts as his eyes, looking at people’s subtle body language clues and obvious things like doors in Jesse’s path.

History:
Before death, she was a real estate agent; she lived and worked in several cities in Aedolis. She won’t talk about how or why she died, and she refuses to answer questions beyond the basics of her family. It is known she was engaged before death, something unusual for an Aedolian, and that she already had two children, something not so unusual. She will not say who the father was, whether it was the man she was engaged to or not.

She has hinted at being murderd by one of the many serial killers running rampant in Aedolis.

Loitering around Aedolis in death only made her depressed, and though some psychics would see her, they only made her feel worse. She got on a ship, since there was no one to stop her, and went to Edanith. There, she met Jesse, whom she befriended and eventually confessed her secrets to. She now travels with him, and doesn't mind being back in Aedolis.

Other:
She cannot directly communicate with anyone she meets, even if they can see her, so they’ll need Jesse to speak for her.
Almost nothing can touch her.
