Libra & Cancer FBs / Code Red is an understatement [@GoblinFae!!]
« on: September 30, 2023, 07:10:07 pm »
Dr. Adrian was deeply engrossed in an ancient medical journal, fascinated with how ancient Serenians practiced medicine.
“They could recite…words…and heal people? But that doesn’t make sense!” He mused to himself.
“That goes against the laws of science, it goes against common logic…” he paused, realizing that some of current technology, and especially some of his own nanotechnology couldn’t be really explained by science either, but yet he was one of the most respected emergency medics on Libra Station, and he’d like to stay respected.  He turned the page, quickly losing himself in the writing.

His medical quarters were just below the flight deck, sprawled out over four different large rooms, all connected by a well lit hallway. His personal living space was rather small, but he liked it that way. Immaculately kept, and everything well organized. He kept his EMT nanosuit by the door, suspended by maglevs to keep it ready for him to just grab and run out the door.
Across the hall from his living quarters was the triage unit, which was the biggest room. 10 beds were there, along with life support equipment and various BLS and ALS kits. Adjacent to that room was the burn unit and the trauma center. The burn unit stayed busy, and he had two paramedics working around the clock there at all times. Across from there was the surgical unit. All in all he had a dedicated, hardworking staff of around 25 people under him, keeping the emergency station well run.

Dr. Adrian was abruptly shook out of his book by the loud, two tone emergency siren going off. A loud, robotic voice began telling status.
“Attention all EMTs. There has been an explosion in Bay 7. This is a Code Red situation. At least three are involved. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill. This is a Code Red Situation.”
He shot up out of his seat, putting his nano suit, grabbing his medical helmet, and running out the door.  Why did he not hear the explosion? He shook his head, putting on his helmet, the air seal coming into place. He pressed a button on his suit as he ran, and a large red backpack formed on his back. He spoke into his headset.
“C2, how large is the fighter?”
“Seems to be a two person fighter, it’s hard to tell.” His robot assistant spoke.
“I’m pulling footage, and the fire is so big it’s hard to see.”
The overhead siren cut in again.
“Situation updated to a Code Black, I repeat, Situation is updated to a Code Black. Any and all EMTS please respond.”
Dr. Adrian flicked a switch on his wrist, and his jet pack turned on.
“But Adrian, jet packs arent allowed inside the halls!” C2 protested.
“They’re allowed now,” and he used the jet pack to propel him quickly down the hall and up to the flight deck.
“Holy shit,” he breathed as he came onto the deck. The remains of the fighter were engulfed in a blaze.’
He spoke into his headset.
“EMT-279 on scene. Two seated fightercraft, appears to be a Duo. C2, turn the fire resistant suit on.”
“It’s not equipped on this suit,” C2 hesitantly responded.
“Are you kidding me? You’ve got to be kidding me.”
C2 snorted, the snarkiness dripping from his voice.
“I am a robot I can’t lie.”
Adrian cursed. He was the only EMT on scene right now, and the fire suppression crews hadn’t got there. Why hadn’t the fire system gone off? He shook his head, so many things seemed off.
He turned on his infrared heatseeking system, and ran to the fightercraft.
“EMT-279 to corporal, I see no lifeforms…” his infrared began beeping.
“Shit I see one.” The smoke was so thick, he could barely see. He used his hands to try to pull bits of the wreckage away.
“Oh gods…” he trailed off.
One body was unrecognizable, bits of charred flesh hanging off of bone and tendons.
“C2, do you see any more?”
He began quickly feeling for a pulse. He couldn’t find one a radial pulse.
“Radial pulse is a negative, searching for a carotid pulse.”
He found a carotid pulse, but it was weak and irregular. C2 beeped in.
“Adrian, there’s another one pinned under the fuselage. He seems to be alive, but barely. There’s two more EMTs enroute.”
The fire was getting hotter, the smoke thickening and barreling out from the wreckage in black, putrid smelling pillars.
Adrian sighed.
“There’s nothing we can do for this one.”
Tears were gathering in his eyes. He hated making decisions like this one. And it looked like she had absorbed much of the blast, she must have been the mage.
He quickly felt his way over to where the other body was. The fuselage was lying on half of him. He looked to be unconscious.
“C2 engage the hydrolift thrusters so we can get the remains of this off of him.”
By this time the fire suppression crews had gotten there, and were starting to put out the fire. Not much remained of the blackened, charred fighter.
Adrian grabbed the fuselage and pushed.
“Be careful, he’s got to have sustained crush injuries. As soon as this fuselage lifts, drop two tourniquets.”
He gritted his teeth and pushed harder, the fuselage finally lifting off of the severely injured pilot.
The pilot was almost burnt beyond recognition. He grabbed the tourniquets and put them on his left arm and his left leg. By this time the other EMTS had arrived with a stretcher.
“Alright listen we need to do this carefully. Give him 20 lpms of oxygen with a BVM, use humidifier oxygen, he’s going into respiratory failure. Get me a readout of his vitals!”
EMT 427 is it? You, carefully grab his legs, I’ll grab his arms, let’s get him on the stretcher,” Adrian was in his element, his years of intense training kicking in.
“Keep him ventilated at 10 a minute!”
“Adrian his left lung is collapsed, he’s sustained a hemopneumothorax, he’s going into shock!”
“Give me the 16 gauge needle!”  Adrian yelled.
He quickly decompressed his lung.
“What’s his vitals readout?”
“He’s flatlined, pulse is non existent.”
“Get me the AED!”
Adrian grabbed the AED and shocked him.
“Vitals status now!”
EMT 497 quickly read his vitals readout.
“BP 70/20, P 50 and weak, eyes unresponsive, respiratations improving to 9 assisted.”
“Up the ventilations to 12 and inject epinephrine stat! He’s in shock!”
By this time they had left the scene of the ruined fighter craft, and were on their way to the burn unit.
“What’s the status on his burns?”
EMT 427 had cut off the remains of his clothes, revealing 3rd degree burns along 60% of his left side. Crush injuries littered the rest of his body.
“He’s got full thickness burns and crush injuries. It’s a miracle his femoral artery is intact.”
Adrian spoke into his headset again.
“Get me a Trauma 3 bed, get a burn care specialist in stat! And prepare the surgical ward.”
C2 spoke, quite proud of himself.
“Already done.”
Adrian, despite the severe situation, felt alittle better. He truly loved his team.
“Good, good.”
They got to the trauma unit, and quickly unloaded the pilot onto a bed, hooking up various IVs and connecting his vitals readout to an ALS kit.
“Adrian, his vitals are dropping!”
C2 interjected.
“The mage has been brought in, they had a pulse, but she’s gone.”
“Not now C2! Kind of busy!” Adrian was busy trying to save the pilots limbs, but after the tourniquets had been on for so long, he doubted he could save the left ones.
The ALS kit beeped.
“Pilot stabilized.”
Adrian searched the pilot for ID, anything.
“Does he have his ID?”
C2 scanned him.
“His name is Dash, uploading information now.”
Adrian’s eyes widened.
“This is Dash? How did he crash his fightercraft, he’s one of the best pilots in Libra!”
He sighed.
“You’ll make it. I promise.”
