Tsumi, beings of repentance [lore-ish proposal thingy?]
« on: February 28, 2017, 02:49:44 pm »
Sweet and benevolent goddess. In these darkest hours. Guide our pitiful and sinful lives. Bestow your will upon us. Allow us to atone and guide our path when we do. That we may be worthy of standing by your side once again. With our heads held high
-----------
Traditional Tsumi prayer.

Tsumi: General description
Massive warbeasts or lithe infiltrators, Tsumi can have a variety of physical builds. But there are several key features all Tsumi share. Firstly, there are the horns. More info on this will be given under their culture part. Many may consider Tsumi being actual demons. And in some way, they are demons. But not all demons are Tsumi. They are a different race altogether.

Secondly, is their brand. A marking either somewhere in the neck, or on the shoulder. This is their code. To any non Tsumi, this is how they are addressed. Names and such are for other Tsumi only. It's a very personal thing to call a Tsumi by their own chosen name, rather than their designation.

Tsumi can either be decorated soldiers and warriors, or labourers, a cheap work force. Since they are a slave race to Teinar. The highest ruler in their hierarchy will still be beneath any common Teinar civilian. Tsumi believe this is their repentance. More about this in their history.

Their relation to Teinar, then, is quite obvious. It is common knowledge who the Tsumi are. Though, not much is known about them. Leading to an outcast of them within Teinar as a whole. Yet, there are some who actively protest. A movement for the Tsumi and their treatment of the Tsumi. Though this is a vast minority.

It is ill advised for any non-Tsumi to travel to one of the compounds, people have disappeared there before. Teinar doesn't control what happens within the compound. And it is not unknown for criminals or refugees to go into hiding there.

Physiology
A Tsumi can have varying skin colours. It can range from pale white to black, but can also be more demonic colours, such as grey, purple or red. The bones of one's horns can be of varying textures. Some have metallic ones, other have more skeletal ones. It can vary strongly.

As stated beforehand, Physically, Tsumi can vary strongly from eachother. Tsumi have two inherent traits, suited to their arcane prowess. Each Tsumi has an inherent affinity towards magic. Not all choose to pursue it. But with enough practice, every Tsumi can learn to Buff or Transform.

Buffing is the act of siphoning pure mana into ones muscles, effectively leading them to increase in size, weight and even hardness. The seasoned users can use this to deflect blades or even bullets. While masters can level skyscrapers with it. This technique, however, is extremely taxing and is only allowed to be taught if granted permission from the high counselor. Who in turn requires permission from Teinar itself. When overused or used too carelessly, this can lead to a cardiac arrest.

Transforming is, very simply put, a Tsumi giving in to the corruption of their race's sin. This technique transforms the Tsumi to their demon like form. Granting them an increase to all physical parameters, an increase to cognitive processes as well as a stronger affinity to magic. Though the physical increase comes nowhere close near what Buffing can do. The appearance of a Tsumi during their transformation also varies. But the most typical features are skeletal wings with a thin film, that allow for flight. And lengthened horns, altered skin colour. An increase in length and size is also quite common.

Tsumi's genetical makeup is very odd. They will inherit genes from their parents, when they are allowed to breed, but gender is more likely to blur than it is with other races. Hermaphrodites and the likes are very common among the Tsumi. This is due to their DNA structure being able to mutate very easily.

Breeding, pregnancy and procreation are a very taboo thing to speak off among the Tsumi. Due to it being a regulation. From birth, along with other necessary surgery, Tsumi are injected with hormone chips that are controlled and regulated by Teinar. And require activation for a Tsumi to become fertile. Their reproduction is kept tightly in check. And most of the times, Teinar chooses whom is allowed children, forcefully breeding them to be either stronger or weaker for added control. Sexuality and procreation are different things however. But more about this under their culture.

Culture
Tsumi are slaves. Born into slavery and most likely to die into slavery. They all live in either of the three provided compounds on the frontier. Overpopulation is not an option, since birth is heavily monitored and regulated. However, they have their own hierarchy. All are led by a high counselor. The individual whom processes all requests, be it for Buffing, Transforming or breeding, and sends them to Teinar. This is also the Tsumi's spokesperson. Their judge, jury and possible executioner. Each compound is ruled by one. High Counselors are the only ones allowed to leave the compound without an independent handler. Often, for combat missions, these can be Pilots.

Tsumi are used for a variety of things. In or outside the compound. Some are labourers, others are servants. Some Tsumi even have desk jobs in modern society. But, there is also the dark counterpart to it. A majority of the Tsumi unfit for combat are whores or escorts, their handler being the nearest pimp. They are illustrious as personal pets. Getting one is expensive and very tedious. So it is a status symbol to have a personal servant that is a Tsumi. They are even sold to outsiders, granted the sum is large enough. The Tsumi in questions will also be mind broken, memory wiped into a mindless doll for it's owner.

There are Tsumi outcasts. Those who managed to escape and carve the locator chip from their brain and surviving the entire ordeal. Tsumi who meet these outcasts believe them to be unfit to serve the goddess. And that their actions only lengthen their atonement. The phrase; "Consider our goddess," holds a lot of weight. Even to outcasts.

Now that the goddess has been mentioned some time now. The goddess is a nameless and faceless deity the Tsumi worship. Who they believe they have upset and to whom they have to atone to. Since she is in a slumber. Only some Tsumi sporadically receive visions of her voice. With her instructions. Most are to stay in line. Serve Teinar and wait until atonement draws near.

Atonement in itself, is the event that occurs when the Tsumi have finished repenting for their sin. Where they will see the return of their goddess at last. None know what happens afterwards, but they anticipate this event. And live voluntarily as slaves since their dormant goddess instructs this.

The Tsumi are very open to sexuality. Homosexuality, bisexuality, pansexuality. It doesn't matter. Open minded individuals like them do not discriminate each other on their sexuality. In regards to sex itself, they are very loose and laid back about it.

Procreation is decided by Teinar. They will select two individuals that are compatible and will force them to mate. Their pregnancy duration is five months, shorter than an average human. Even the amount of children are regulated. If twins are born, but they only wanted one child from this pair, one of the twins is killed off. If they wanted two children, this is a lucky coincidence for both parties.

The child will most likely not be raised by it's biological father, or what passes as the father, but rather with the mother and her selected lover. For Tsumi also, akin to humans, are mammals that can breast feed their children. It is not unheard off, however, for the father to take the child. Birth is naturally celebrated, since it being very rare. It can lead to an entire compound being in celebration.

The aforementioned outcasts believe that their goddess is lying, manipulating and degrading their race from their former glory. That is the only reason they rebel against them. They believe in the ideology that their goddess is imprisoned and forced to grant these visions. And that their atonement may be true. But not as slaves. But to wake, take their freedom and grow into a proud and strong people. Where their goddess can be proud off. This theory is called the Tharokes theory, after the one who forged it. And is outlawed in any form or shape. It is considered heresy, high treason and will lead to immediate execution.

History
The first Tsumi were not the repenting an pious beings. They indeed have sinned thoroughly. Genocide, mass murder and warmongering are their sins. But in a battle with a united Teinar and Aedolis, forcing Aedolis to use even their strongest of dragons, they were defeated. Alongside with their goddess. They were fearsome foes. One Tsumi could tear through an entire platoon of soldiers. And their Goddess was even stronger. Able to fight with elder dragons, toe to toe.

The Tsumi now believes that in this battle, their goddess was defeated, offered the service of her people to the people of Teinar. Which they accepted. Leading to their life now. Their repentance is for their goddess to wake and to end her debt.

But this is not entirely true. The goddess and all of the Tsumi in the final battle, wasn't killed off completely. She was still breathing. Teinar tech made her braindead and docile, able to be manipulated. She sits deep within Teinar's structures, in one facility, guarded constantly. Only the highest in control can visit her with proper clearance. The manipulation is to keep the Tsumi in control. And it is kept a secret by all means.

Because bloody revolution is a given when this secret comes to light.
