The Citadel / So. Much. Paperwork. [TALLY!]
« on: February 06, 2014, 08:47:22 pm »
Shiloh slumped over his desk, staring at the pile of paperwork before him. Paperwork he hadn't yet touched. Instead, he had taken to playing with the paperclips on his desk as he decided how best he was going to tackle this monster.

There was a report to fill out on his last mission, shit that needed to be filed, mail that needed to be mailed...

Boring ass stuff that had him fidgeting just thinking about it--and thinking about it was all he'd gotten done so far.

With a sigh, he tossed his paperclip creation onto the desk--and startled when he saw he'd fashioned a shiv.

Er.

Old habits died hard?

Glancing around, even though he was alone in the office, he grabbed it and started to quickly take it apart.

Haviah / Party time in Doucheville! [TALLY!]
« on: February 06, 2014, 07:00:09 pm »
The venue was nice!

The local children's hospital had rented out the Harriet Hotel for the charity's benefit dinner, which had gone smoothly. Good food, good people, and Gabriel had even wore a suit for it (a suit! And he looked pretty danged dapper if he did say so himself, which he did). He'd also had to give an impromptu speech, as one of the Pilots that had come to the event, and he thanked the gods that public speaking no longer fazed him, though doing a speech for a fancy and prestigious charity was a lot different than making an appearance at a gaming panel at a convention. He hoped people laughed because he was funny and not because he was awkward.

After dinner, the party moved down into the bar and lounge--probably to get people liquored up before the raffle, and before the donation box was passed around. It was while Gabriel was heading over to purchase tickets that he saw, right as a woman moved out of the way and cleared a path for him.

Aydan.

Aydan was fucking here?!

And he was right in front of him, practically face to face.

Gabriel froze in mid-step and just stared, because it was too late to slip back into the crowd. No. Freakin' Way.

Short of getting summoned to the Axis Point, this was the worst message Gabriel could have gotten. A message from Gregory Chastain, Pilot Imperial, to see him in his office. Now.

Gabriel stared at the message on his phone for several long seconds. This felt like being a candidate all over again, complete with sweaty palms and a lump in his throat. Oh gods. It could be anything, the only question was what and how screwed was he?

He closed his phone and started to walk, quickly, because being late would only make things worse and...and it didn't necessarily have to be something bad, right? Maybe Gregory had good news! Or important news! Or something! Maybe this was about those stupid consensual relationship yadda yadda papers he'd had to sign. Maybe he'd done the paperwork wrong! Or something!

But just to cover his ass, he paused before he reached Gregory's office and sent off a text.

Then, brushing the wrinkles out of his shirt (a World of Warlocks shirt, argh! Gregory caught him while he was out running errands!) he knocked on his office door, waited, and tried to look stoic instead of "I'm gonna shit myself".

The Cancer / Smoke and mirrors. [TALLY!] [M]

Trigger Warning: Non-con/rape

It had been a long day on the job, and it felt good to be done and back in something more comfortable than that obnoxious red uniform. The first thing Jake had done was make a beeline to his apartment, throw on a pair of loose jeans and a fitted t-shirt, and grab his cigarettes--which he had been unfortunate enough to forget that day.

Not having them made the day much longer than it needed to be.

Mission accomplished, he headed to the business district to nab a bite to eat, lit cigarette held between his fingers and other hand stuffed in his jeans pocket. Hrm. The worst thing ever was having a craving for something and not knowing what. Noodles? Pizza? He passed by a pasta place and considered it for a moment, but it looked new, and the smells coming out were...dubious.

He was still debating taking chances when a the door opened and man hastily exited, shoving Jake out of the way as he went.

And, of course, as luck would have it he fumbled and dropped his cigarette, which the man squashed as he went by.

"Thanks, asshole!" he shouted after the guy, but he was already gone, and Jake decided the pasta place was a no.

He headed back onto the main strip and pulled out another cigarette--and realized then that he'd left behind his lighter.

Argh.

Maybe this was his sign that he needed coffee, too.

With a sigh, he turned to the nearest guy, an older gentleman, and tapped his arm to get his attention. "Hey, you got a light?"

The Shiny New Monkey Exhibit Has Been Unveiled!

Anticipated to be one of the zoo's most popular exhibits, these monkeys are lively, active, and sure to amuse and entertain! Roughly two feet tall when standing with black and white fur and long, fluffy, prehensile tails, they're adorable, as well! Watch as they somersault through the enclosure's trees and play on the tire swing! Just don't tap on the glass. That's rude.

Be sure to stop by the gift shop later so you can take home one of your very own monkeys, in plushie form!

Out of courtesy to your fellow guests, please adhere to these Monkey Exhibit rules:
  • Keep posts short and sweet.
  • Don't worry about posting order.
  • If you find yourself posting rapid fire with one other person, consider splintering off into a private thread!

Advanced Training Complex / Busywork! [Hecate!]
« on: December 19, 2013, 10:57:35 pm »
So, one of his assignments for the day was something Dakota couldn't really think of as anything other than busywork, to keep him occupied and working since none of the Pilots had any use for him until later that day, when he would be helping to teach a class. But while "busywork" often carried a negative connotation, he wasn't actually bothered by this! Because this assignment had him back at the ATC, which made it pretty convenient, because it meant he could say hello to old friends and just hang around his old haunt.

That, and it was a pretty cute assignment, anyway. Help orient a new candidate until her mentor, who was currently on a mission she would be returning from later that day, could meet up with her? Aw yis. That was something he could do! New candidates were always adorable. Usually terrified, but adorable nonetheless! Hopefully he could help with that.

He had been given her number, as like all candidates she was given a special cellphone, and so he fired off a quick text to her to remind her of the meeting, just in case. New candidates always had so much on their minds, it was an easy mistake to make!

Hey there, Seranė! This is Dakota. Just a reminder about our meeting at 10:30! Meet me in front of the cafeteria, okay? I'm already there! I'm the guy with the red hair. You can't miss me!

Okay, maybe not the best identifying feature, but there weren't any other red-heads around that he could see, so it worked! Not many other identifying features he could use, really; he was currently in his drab Stage 5 uniform. Gods, would it feel great when he could permanently leave that fashion disaster behind!

The Cancer / Starlight, starbright... [Lomatus!]
« on: October 10, 2013, 05:34:38 pm »
Planet Starblaze was a rather upscale bar in the Red District, so named for its spacy theme. Screens along the walls, decorated by fake windows and portholes, gave the illusion of gazing outside at the starry universe beyond the station, and the lighting was made up of stars and planets hanging from the ceiling, casting the room in dim, mood appropriate light. By the Cancer's standards, this place was high-end, located in one of the better parts, and the prices (and quality) were appropriately higher.

It was one of Jericho's favorite places to go when she needed a break from the rabble of a seedy pub. Sometimes, she just wanted to dress up, blow money on fancy appetizers, and, y'know, eyeball the rich-looking people and see if she could get something from them later.

Taking up a seat at the bar, Jericho nursed an amaretto sour and picked at her artichoke dip. (Artichokes! Really! Sure, it was probably freeze-dried or something before it was cooked, but artichokes in space? That was divine.) She'd dressed in a dark gray suit, the jacket worn casually open, with a red shirt and darker red tie beneath, and she'd worn her long hair down.

With a pair of black-framed glasses completing the look, she looked nothing like the space pirate she was, and more like a businesswoman letting loose after a long day.

The illusion was only ruined by the fact that she was packing, though the gun might be easy to overlook, holstered at her hip and hidden beneath her jacket.

A girl could never be too prepared.

Advanced Training Complex / A visit to the slammer. [Anona!]
« on: October 10, 2013, 02:51:44 pm »
The utility closet was Arrow's old friend. She'd utilized it once, when she'd first arrived in the ATC, to escape from some bullies back when she'd been a nobody. Back before she'd started dating a higher level candidate who was buddies with a Pilot known for being dangerous. She hadn't anticipated needing it again. But ever since they'd gently, mutually broken it off and her ex had long since graduated, well...

It was open season, again.

The shy ones were always easy targets, and bullies tended to be cowards, but knowing that didn't help her much. Oh, sure, she'd grown a backbone since coming here--the drills and training and new reality of her world did that. She'd learned to fight back, and to talk back. But a backbone didn't do much good when it was three on one and you were smaller.

Thank goodness she was also faster.

And that's how she found herself locked in a utility closet.

Yup. Locked.

Oh, she'd escaped the bullies, all right. She'd dashed away and hidden herself in the closet, which had worked awesomely several months back. But this time they were onto her, for it was hard to hide from a psychic. She'd braced herself for a fight, prepared for them to drag her out--

And instead, laughing, they'd locked the damned door.

Their voices had long since faded down the hall as they headed off to the cafeteria for a lunch it looked like she'd be missing. With a groan, Arrow leaned back against the wall and slid down until she was seated atop an upended bucket, cleaning supplies scattered at her feet and two mops competing for space and insisting on leaning on her no matter how she rearranged them.

She let out another sigh, chin resting on her hand.

Maybe she could kick the door out?

That would be pretty cool, busting on out of captivity like that. What wouldn't be so cool was being found here. How pathetic was that?

Arrow waited several minutes, just to be sure the hall was clear, and then pushed the bucket out of the way so she could sit on the dusty floor and brace against the wall. Pulling her knees to her chest, she kicked out as hard as she could and then cursed as the impact went right through her, and the door didn't budge.

The Frontier / Get along little doggies! [Bluuuue!]
« on: May 09, 2013, 03:04:24 pm »
Food was hard to come by on the frontier, and Des was beginning to grow desperate.

He had passed through a small frontier town and raided the rubbish heaps and drank from the horse troughs, but before he could think about where on earth he was going to get some clothes so he could blend in and ask for a place to stay, he'd been caught and forced to run or get shot.

Now back out in the dusty middle of nowhere, tongue lolling out of his powerful jaws, Des felt himself running low on options.

He needed to eat, and he needed to hydrate, or he was going to die.

He'd managed to sate both basic needs by catching rabbits or slaughtering livestock here and there, their meat and blood providing the nourishment he needed. But he hadn't seen an animal for miles now.

Maybe he should turn back and take his chances, show up naked and beg for help, say some criminals stole his shit. Maybe. That sounded the logical choice, but part of him was paranoid they'd be able to figure out that he was a criminal, himself, dumped out into the middle of nowhere and left to die. Others had, but he had a hyena's endurance.

Sniffing the air, that was when a new scent caught his nose, something distinctly mammalian, canine, and he began to salivate. Good enough. He'd take it. When he was younger, he would have been queasy at the thought of eating a dog, but nowadays he couldn't afford to be picky.

Picking up his pace, he loped toward the source, licking his lips in anticipation.

The Frontier / Home, home on the range... [Paganchick!]
« on: May 04, 2013, 06:01:33 pm »
Ah, the fresh smell of the open range!

For someone who looked like such a city gal, Naomi never felt more at home than when she was up on a horse and out on the frontier. Riding her horse, a black mare named Ebony (predictable name, but Naomi never claimed to be original) and glanced down at the map in her hands and then gazed out at the flat land that stretched out on the horizon.

Technically, she was on vacation right now, so of course she decided to spend said vacation taking a long, old fashioned trip back home to visit her parents. She could have driven there, sure, but it wouldn't be very practical; too many unpaved roads, too many roads that had been destroyed by the weather, too few fueling stations in between, too many places a car couldn't go but a horse could. Besides, it was an excuse to rough it and just enjoy being outside and at one with the elements or whatever.

Finished checking her map, she lowered it to put it away--and that was when she saw it. A figure in the distance.

Hmmm...

Urging her horse forward, it wasn't long before she caught up to the figure--and saw her to be a young, skinny girl.

"Hello! You there!" she called, pulling her horse up beside her. "Need some help there?"
