Physical Description
Rather tall, Raniero has an athletic build, thanks mainly to all the intense physical training he’s been doing throughout his candidacy. Though not overly toned, he does have naturally broad shoulders, and his musculature is evident beneath his tanned skin. The color is natural, and does not fade even without sunlight - though being in the sun extended periods does make him darker. His hair is also dark, a raven black, and is shoulder length. He generally pulls most of it back into a loose tail, but keeps a large chunk near the front free to act like long bangs, almost always swept to one side. His eyes pop startlingly out of all his dark earth tones, being a very bright blue-green color. Equally striking for a similar reason is his smile, and it tends to attract more attention than normal because of this.
He likes simple clothing, like form fitting tees and jeans, with sneakers or boots suiting him just fine. He can’t wear a watch due to his power, and metal objects are generally a no-go as well, so he’s gotten used to not wearing any sort of accessories or jewelry. Back before his powers became prevalent (and a pain in the ass) he got a tattoo of a spine…on his spine. It sounds ridiculous, but it actually looks pretty damn cool.

Personality
Raniero is a rather laid back guy, and ‘chill’ would be a pretty good way to describe him. His feathers aren’t easily ruffled, and he’s comfortable with doing things at his own pace (when he actually has that option). He learned long ago that frustration and a rising temper just created massive amounts of damage and potential injuries, so he’s got something of a ‘forced’ level of patience thanks to his ability’s side effects. He’s pretty motivated, though not really for the sake of fame or fortune, but just because he wants to better learn to control his powers - he throws himself into his training every day.
He doesn’t really have a mean streak, although occasionally he’ll partake in the teasing of lower ranked candidates, but nothing too vicious. He’s more likely to bullshit with his friends and generally he teases them a lot more mercilessly because he knows he can. He’s pretty easy to keep amused and entertained, as he likes jokes and banter, so his smile is a pretty common occurrence. He sobers up fast when things get serious though, and he has the ability to become a very focused and intense individual when a situation calls for it.
Overall Raniero is a surprisingly normal guy - he likes normal guy things and is your basic dude, yo.

Magic/Abilities
Raniero is an Electrokinetic of some power, but little control. Though he’s learning how to make electromagnetic barriers, the idea of using pure electricity as a form of attack is proving to be difficult. If he’s touching the person, shocking them is not a problem, but creating a burst of electricity that can travel from himself to another person or object is much trickier. Apart from that, he’s suffering many interesting problems as a result of his power.
He can't get near electronics or they begin to malfunction - if he touches them they basically die. On the flip side, if it's dead and he touches it, he can generally kickstart it. If he gets pissed or frustrated, electronics around him experience a power surge that's most obvious with lights - they get much brighter and if he doesn't reign it in, they tend to explode. He can't brush up against anyone without giving them a small shock, and balloons probably stick to him like mad. Occasionally he seems to shock himself, and it makes his hair stand on end, much to his embarrassment. He can't carry a cellphone or wear a watch, nor can he touch computers - it's made life rather frustratingly complicated for him.
This lack of control has him terrified he won’t be accepted by a dragon - he’s not sure if they will see his electronics-killing problem as a threat and kill him once he hits Stage 5.
Random skill - Raniero has a near photographic memory, and can regurgitate conversations almost word for word. On the flip side, this intense memory generally doesn’t stick around longer than 24 hours unless he makes an effort to commit it to long term memory.

Relationships
His parents and an elder sister live in the Middle Caste, but he has not been able to communicate with them too much during his training. Apart from mastering his abilities, he’d also like to make it to Pilot status so he can visit them more freely in the future.

Dakota Lewis - Raniero’s closest friend and fellow Electrokinetic. They met earlier on in Raniero’s Candidacy, and bonded pretty quickly thanks to being able to sympathize with each other’s problems. He finds Dakota’s femininity to be rather…odd, though he’s chill enough not to get too hung up on it. Still, it makes him a little uncomfortable when Dakota tries out the newest skin care or facial products on him…he’s a guy, he can’t help it!

History

Raniero grew up in the Middle Caste of Haviah, a fairly comfortable life really. He only half listened to his few classes, but his photographic mind allowed him remember most everything said and written down, adding to a natural propensity toward learning. As a young teen he was definitely more interested in games and parties, although at around fifteen years old he began to notice some…problems with electronics.
After he caused a brand new tv to die immediately after he touched it, and having gone through five cellphones in as many weeks, his parents decided to have him checked out for some kind of power that might explain it. He tested positive for psionics, and his parents eagerly sent him off to the Pilots. Things didn’t turn out the way they were cracked up to be, but he knows his family is excited to see him on tv as a ‘hero’, while he just wants to be able to use a phone or a computer terminal without shorting it out.
