Outer Space Food Truck {Any aboard the Sassy Juice}
« on: February 13, 2014, 01:14:23 pm »
Pierce Aubade Zephyr, conman, mercenary, outlaw, pirate, wanted criminal of seven sectors, was operating a food truck in space. Food was his passion. He loved to eat, and he loved to feed people. His stolen Nigrum Lotos, Anima, was not overly fond of her current shape. She was a bit vain, and preferred to be a sleek fighter model, or even high speed escape pod instead of this ugly shape. The flashing lights of her intergalactic signage was bright enough to be seen 4.2 lightyears away and Pierce was running an audio advertisement over the emergency frequency.

<<<Hungry? Tired of space rations and nutri-paste? Food replicators on the fritz? Have a hankering for kep-mok bloodticks? Stop by the best food truck this side of Alpha Centauri! Pierce's Palate Pleasure Palace! Where even if we've never heard of it, we've got it! It's always fresh at Pierce's Palate Pleasure Palace!>>>

Any passing vessel would hear the ad on their distress band, and hopefully none of them would be hunting him for a bounty, or worse, be a scorned lover. The giant blinking sign had the name of the establishment up in lights. Pierce stood in his amazing kitchen. Anima knew exactly what kind of setting he wanted, and if he chose to he could tweak it a bit to better fit his needs. He was making himself an applewood smoked bacon wrapped andouille sausage on a sweet roll while he waited for a customer to arrive. He had a feeling someone would be coming by to see him soon.

Yeah, Ari couldn't not check that shit out.

One, because they had run through the good food and were down to shitty space rations.

Two, because the name was too hilarious not to investigate. Pierce's Palate Pleasure Palace? Sounded like a bad porno.

And so, investigate they went! Though cautiously. It didn't seem like a set-up, and if it was, it was a terrible idea for one. Not least because it was so obnoxiously visible.

Opening a com link between their ships as he pulled in closer, Ari spoke into the communicator. "Nice thing ya got goin' here. I like it, it's like some spacey drive-thru. So, how's this work? Ya got a hook-up?"

Anima saw the Sassy Juice on her long range sensors well before Ari Maxwell, pirate captain of said ship, hailed Pierce. She scanned the vessel, not probing deeply, just making sure weapons weren't hot. She could change into a dreadnaught with ease, and go toe-to-toe with anything in space, or just as easily become a jumper or dart model ship and flee before weapons came to bare. She had limited info in her logs about the Sassy Juice and its crew, but she could see the ship and was not impressed.

Not overly large, it was obviously built for speed, but that's not what caught her attention. The paint job was ugly. There was no better way to say it. Paint that could survive the frozen vacuum of space was not cheap, and to throw it around like that was wasteful as far as she was concerned. It was like a magic flying unicorn shit a rainbow all over it, and jet grind goblin graffiti artists scrawled their work right on top of that. Disgusting.

#$%Looks like you're gonna have your first customer%$#

Her voice, somehow sounding innocent and sultry at once, as most appealed to Pierce, came tinkling over an onboard sound system.

#$%Known pirate vessel. No open warrants in this sector. Weapons cold.%$#

Pierce had savored every bite of the first sausage he'd made and was stuffing the last few bites of the second one in his mouth as Ari's voice came in over his com.

"Ohfen fuh cahmsh," he said to Anima, his mouth filled to bursting, a small piece of bun sticking out as he struggled to chew. If the Sassy Juice had a visual comm-system, Pierce would come up on the screen, but he didn't feel it was necessary to see his customers so he didn't have one enabled on his end. He chewed as little as necessary, choking down the last of the meat and bread, pounding his chest with a fist, as if that helped get it down.

"Welcome to Pierce's Palate Pleasure Palace. I'm Pierce, your host, and chef. Anything you can think up, the universe over, I can make. As long as you don't want it live. I can have a hookup if that's your preference, or I can send it into your docking bay on an automated drone."

As he spoke, he made himself a doppio espresso con panna with white chocolate and caramel sauce.

"So how many sailors are making orders? Anything exotic, they might have to give me a description, but I love finding new recipes to add to the millions I have."

Leaning an elbow on the arm of his plush pilot's chair, Ari grinned at the holographic image that projected on the screen. He arched an eyebrow at the man's attire. Sunglasses? Really?

But he couldn't mock the man much, because that was when the guy made his espresso concoction.

Espresso.

Coffee.

Oh fuck him.

It had been way too many weeks since he'd had coffee that didn't come out of a packet, just add water.

"Ya got an espresso machine," he said, eyes wide with hope, and just like that, he was sold. "Well, fuck. I don't care what it is, but I know I'll take the largest, most heart attack inducin' espresso drink ya got. I'm talkin' I don't wanna sleep for a week. I wanna sprout hair in places I didn't even know existed. Now hold on one sec."

He hit a button on his console to open up the intercom. "Get your asses up! I'm orderin' shit! Tell me what y'all want or go without!" And then he added with a grin, "He's got coffee."

With that taken care of, he turned back to the holographic image. "So. Anything, ya said? How about Edani-style barbeque? 'Cause I could kill for ribs." And then, after a pause, because he couldn't help himself, he added, "Ya sell hookers, too?"

Sarah had been working on an improvement to the shields when Ari's message sounded on the intercom. <Human. Fresh. Preferably thigh and/or ribs. Or Kashal. Haven't had that in a while. Or anything with any blubber to it. Failing that, Rhemorak. It goes without saying that these will all be raw.>, she responded, not even bothering to stop working, <Actually, make that all of the above. And a couple live Kashal. Can't go wrong with long-term supplies. Some Valu would also be great.>, she added, <Let me know when we're clear of whoever you're ordering from so I can finish upgrading the shields.>.

[Notes: Kashal are large semi-aquatic mammals native to Hesta. They're known for tough muscle and thick blubber, and are hunted in the polar regions of the main continent. Typically, the back or thighs are served skin-on with powdered fish scales. Rhemorak are sea birds native to the same planet. They're typically served plucked, cleaned of waste, and whole with a sauce made with fish scales, Kashal blubber, and seawater. Valu is a Farenian dish made with a deerlike animal seasoned with sea salt and fried in whale fat.]

"Nope sorry, no hookers. Unless you like them dead," the chef informed Ari, "I could create the biomatter in the perfect configuration of any body you desired," he said, rocking back and forth violently in his chair, "but I couldn't give it life. Or an identity, or anything like that. Way to complex. This is science, not magic." He didn't know if there were mages that could create life. Interesting thought though, as he spun in his chair, somehow not spilling his drink. If he created the body, could someone use magic to create a soul, or to bind one?
Pierce sipped at his delicious and sweet, piping hot espresso. He was leaning back, swiveling in the chair that Anima made for him today. It hovered a few inches from her floor, and as he rocked, the gravity changed to keep him upright. He silenced the comms so Ari couldn't hear him as he talked to Anima. He didn't want to seem crazy, as her voice sounded right into his head.
"So this guy wants an awesome coffee beverage," he said to his lovely companion. Her disembodied voice did a great job of sounding annoyed, but still innocent and sultry. He couldn't understand how she managed that.
#$%You know I can hear everything he says Pierce. I hear it before you, and then I play his voice for you. I am tapped into their on board comms even. I heard the only order any of his crew has made. There aren't very many life signs for a ship that size. I'm surprised he keeps it operational.%$#
"Well I need enough dark roasted coffee beans at an espresso grind for sixteen shots," he told Anima, "measure out eight times the white chocolate and caramel sauce that I use. Oh, and he wants Edani-style barbeque ribs too. Use my savory and spicy adaptations on the sauce recipe, and lets use ribs from those cow sized sheep from Pandora DCCCLXXXVIII, they have that amazing texture."
Anima supplied everything he asked for, and the first thing he did was put 88˚C water through the coffee. As the shots pulled into the large ceramic cup, that had all the sauce at the bottom, Pierce stirred it with a long handled spoon. As soon as the shots were pulled, he grabbed a fancy whipped cream dispenser and topped off the drink with a proper decoration.
"Anima, make a color alteration to the mug please," he asked the AI, "Give it his ships paint job." Anima altered the molecules of the mug, and it was an exact, if tiny, representation of the crazy vomit of mixed art found on the ship. Anima had put the ribs right on the grill so they were already cooking, but it would be a several minutes since Pierce liked to actually cook instead of creating everything already finished.
"Can you bypass all that ships defenses and materialize this beverage by the Captain?" Pierce wanted to send over the drink while it was fresh and hot. Nobody liked old flat whipped cream, or room temperature espresso.
#$%You know I can. As long as I can see the destination through the communications array I can transport things without risk of accidentally putting them inside something living.%$#
"Please do," Pierce requested of Anima, before he turned on the comms again and spoke to Ari. As Pierce informed him of the progress of his meal, the mug materialized on the console beside him, just inside the view of the comms visual pickup.
"I've sent over your drink, and the ribs are cooking now," Pierce told the Pirate Captain, "So any of your crew have orders for you to give me?"
#$%I told you only one has ordered so far.#$%
Anima's words sounded only to him, as usual, and Pierce made no gesture that he'd heard her, though of course he had. He just paid attention to the ribs, and waited for the orders from the ship to come in.

Riot spent about fifteen seconds agonizing over whether he should order anything or not, which okay may have not been all that long but it was a brutal fucking fifteen seconds.

Would Ari let him order anything?  Was he a captive, a prisoner?  Like, he sort of was, but he also sort of wasn't, 'cuz he couldn't leave but Ari had invited him to be part of the crew except only in name kind of because even if he said hell yes make me a pirate he still wouldn't be allowed to leave the ship 'cuz he and Ari both knew he's bounce at the first chance and just fuck all this confusing shit he wanted a hot dog.

He was right close to the bridge, so he just walked there and edged around the corner of the doorway to glare at Ari.  He couldn't not glare at Ari at any given time.  Didn't matter what they were doing.  Ordering food?  Fucking?  Playing checkers?  Glaring.

"Hey!  Uh...yo."  He still didn't know what to call Ari to his face.  Captain was too respectful.  His name was too friendly.  "I want a hot dog.  And black coffee!"

(don't know if anyone is still interested in this, but I wanna join so hopefully...)

Ykan heard the com from their kitchen where he had been trying to figure out what semi edible concoction he could whip up for the crew out of the garbage they had left when that merciful announcement came from the captain. He pushed the all com button from the kitchen, the one ment to be used to simply announce food was ready but was often abused for other uses, "Halle-fucking-lujah! I am not cooking shit. So you all can do what you want."

He hadn't really thought about ordering food for himself. It wasn't necessary for his survival. But he wanted to see this establishment. Hopefully they were on visual communication on the bridge. He hurried up there and as soon as the door opened he was greeted to the sight of Riot. Fucking great.

He really wished they'd jettison him into space at this point. He ignored him in favor of the character on the screen and the coffee concoction.

As soon as the mug appeared on the console, a klaxon began sounding, both on the bridge, and on Sarah's wrist terminal, signalling the activation of a magitech device Sarah had installed specifically to prevent things from being teleported aboard the ship by things the ship's more conventional defenses couldn't account for, and an exclusion field appeared around the Sassy Juice, isolating it from real-space and preventing it from even appearing on any scanners, or interacting with anything in real-space.

Sarah hissed angrily as the alarm sounded, entering her access code on her wrist terminal as she headed to the bridge to enter her code on a console there less than a quarter of a second later. As soon as the second code was entered, the exclusion field dispersed, the klaxons quieted, and the ship appeared back in real-space. "Next time you teleport food directly onto this ship, how about a little warning so I know to disable the backup security systems.", Sarah growled, both literally and figuratively, piggybacking her telepathy off of the comm system to make sure the person on the other ship heard her.

<I don't like things that bypass defenses, Ari. It's not something honest people do. I vote we keep an eye on that food truck.>, she told Ari privately, her 'voice' a combination of annoyance and musing with a heaping helping of suspicion, <And maybe see about getting our hands on an a good AI. Legally or otherwise.>. As she spoke, Sarah pulled up an external view of the other ship on her wrist terminal, then directed the ship's computers to begin searching for any foreign programs as she studied the human on the screen.

Pierce quirked an eyebrow at the growl that went through the comms. Sarah's voice didn't sound quite normal, and before he could ask Anima about it she answered the mystery.
#$%Sarah, Draconian, ex-Slave. The slavers that traded her back and forth kept more complete records on her than they usually do. Her records are pretty impressive. She's a lot older than either of us. She sent her telepathy through the communications systems. Making note that Draconian's can do that. The ship roster lists her as the Mechanic. Seems her duties are a bit more expansive. Her set up of ship defenses show her to be a brilliant Engineer. She's currently scanning me. Any time her scanners come across something we don't want her to see, little hearts cover the data, per your request. Why not just let me hide the information outright so they don't know we have secrets? Why must you insist on being foolish? It gets us in trouble Pierce.%$#
A stream of text came up on Pierce's glasses, giving him a quick brief on Draconian's, but he didn't bother actually reading it. If he needed the information, he could just recall it later. His memory was useful for that.
"Sorry about that," Pierce said back to the Sassy Juice, "I didn't want the coffee to get old."
#$%There was an order for a hotdog and black coffee made by Riot Delacroix. Not much out there about him. He's not on the ship roster. I've found a note stating he's an exceptional pilot, but no accolades.%$#
Pierce reached for the coffee press that was standard for Anima to make for his kitchen. He poured in a course ground coffee that he'd discovered a few months back. It had all the earthy notes he loved, smokey flavor, with none of the bitter taste that dark coffee often had. Water, a very hot 366.5K, poured in on top of it, and a timer started counting down.
At Pierce's request, Anima provided a hotdog made from Saltaroad Beef. The creatures were huge, the size of the Earth elephants of legend, and difficult to wrangle. They looked like tusked rabbits, but were anatomically more similar to cows. Their meat was purple and had a naturally sweet taste, that was popular across the Galaxy, but expensive and hard for the common man to afford.
As the purple hotdog grilled, Pierce was lightly toasting a poppyseed bun. He sliced a yellow tomato into wedges, and set it on a small plate. A wedged pink dill pickle joined it, along with a ramekin of diced onions. A personal serving size squeeze bottle materialized into being right next to the plate. Through the clear bottle you could see the bright green mustard of Ratesonat Lambda Prime. Another ramekin joined the plate, filled with bright pink sweet relish and Pierce set blue striped sport peppers beside it.
The hotdog finished and Pierce slipped it into the warm bun. He set it on its own plate, and put the two plates on a tray that defied gravity. A celery salt shaker went on the tray as well, and then the timer for the coffee went off. Pierce pushed the plunger down, he poured a mug of the coffee, and set it, as well as the coffee press, on the tray. He finished his prep by putting a variety of sweeteners and creamers as well as butter and salt on the tray. There were those people out there that liked butter and salt in their tea or coffee.
"Hey Sarah," Pierce said over the comms, forgetting they hadn't actually been introduced yet, "I'm going to send over this tray with the next order."

Sarah looked over the data carefully as she waited for a response from the human, not the least bit amused by the complete waste of processing power required to show little hearts over the bits the other ship's captain wanted hidden, rather than simply hiding the data behind a partition, or even putting it on a drive with no network connection. As she looked it over, the Draconian pressed a button on her wrist terminal, causing the data to display on a split screen with the comms in such a way as to allow Ari to look through it at his own pace, her way of showing Ari what she'd found without interrupting her work.

"You couldn't have asked for permission first, rather than attempting to bypass the ship's defenses?", she asked, continuing to piggyback off of the comms. For the moment, Sarah chose to ignore Ykan and Riot, instead pulling up the camera nearest where she'd been working on her datapad and continuing work on the shields at double her previous pace. <Ari. Going to have to reboot the shields in about 20 seconds if we want the improvements in place before he leaves. Your call.>, she told Ari privately.

As the human addressed her by name, Sarah checked the scanner data again, then ran another scan, this time looking for any information they had on her. "Don't recall mentioning any names, human.", she icily hinted, tail blade at the ready despite him not being in the same room.

Sarah wasn't the only one that was uneasy by the obvious bypassing of ship defenses. The mug looked fucking awesome, but Ari found himself staring at it like it was a viper when it poofed into existence right next to him, which had him nearly knocking it over in alarm. He stared at it, then picked it up and sniffed it, then took a careful sip against--perhaps--his better judgment.

It tasted like magic, but man.

What the hell??

...Whatever. He wanted his goddamned ribs.

"We'll get our orders, then reboot," Ari told Sarah, noting her agitation. "If he tries anything, pssssh. He's a fuckin' food truck. Uh. Ship. Food ship? We can blast 'im. But I want my ribs first. It's been fuckin' weeks since I've had real food. As for the AI...I leave that to ya, dollface."

He gave her a wink, knowing good and well she hated that, and then looked over at Riot with a raised eyebrow.

"Hotdog, eh? Ain'tcha had enough sausage lately?"

"My AI scanned your ship and gave me your crew roster, your name was on the list," Pierce said with a shrug. He returned his attention to the other food he'd been preparing. Ari's order would be ready shortly.
The ribs had been materialized already deeply marinated, and covered in Pierce's favorite rub. If he were cooking them for himself, he'd have taken his time with the processes, doing them manually. When you're trying to run a speedy food service, you're not left with that luxury. The nature of his barbecue was cooking the ribs quickly without the negative side effects of cooking them so fast. As they were finishing up, Pierce decided to make sides to go along with them. Baked beans, and potato salad. He started with the potato salad.
Earth potatoes were still the best potatoes he'd ever encountered, and so he began chopping some up. He used some more exotic substitutes for the other vegetables and the sauce. The result was a bright pink concoction with swirls of yellow and blue. The taste though, was very similar to traditional Earth recipes. It just had that little something extra that made it taste magical.
As for the baked beans, there were not any earth ingredients. The white beans and the black sugar used in the sauce, made the whole thing a muddy grey color, but it too tasted like a traditional Earth recipe. The bright pink flesh of the alien "pork" used for the bacon, did add tiny touches of color, but it wasn't much. The sweet smokey scent made Pierce remember that he hadn't eaten much, and he wanted to steal a bite for himself, but he'd wait until later.
A healthy serving of both beans and potato salad on a good sized plate, along with the ribs, which had just finished, went onto another tray. Sarah's order of a variety of raw meats was quick and easy, requiring no effort on Pierce's part. Anima simply arranged matter into the forms she'd requested. That sizable order required several trays.
"All the orders placed so far are ready, including all this raw meat. Can't make any living creatures though. Sorry about that. So can I send this over? Sounds like Riot is in serious need of some more sausage." Pierce had caught the tone in Ari's voice, so joined in the innuendo. Of course he was now giving away that he was also tapped into the Sassy Juice's onboard sensors. Otherwise, how would he catch the conversation when the comms had been cut?

<Ari, food trucks don't usually have ways of bypassing defenses. Or hacking rosters, for that matter. Either you're completely useless with computer security, or that ship's more advanced than that human wants us to think.>, Sarah told Ari, <Not saying to turn down the food. I'm getting tired of dried meat myself. Just saying we might want to be a little more careful.>, she continued, too busy keeping an eye on the scanner data, checking to see if the Sassy Juice had any way for her to tell which systems had been compromised and re-secure those systems, checking systems statuses, and working on the shields to devote more than an eye roll and a warning growl to the wink, though Ari's comment about Riot not having enough sausage got a small 'grin' in the form of her baring her lower teeth slightly.

<Yes. Send them over.>, Sarah answered, attributing the fact that he had heard her when she told Ari what she wanted to her possibly having sent her order publicly rather than privately out of distraction and sending directly to him on the assumption that he was in range, <By the way, if you need to see where you're sending stuff, you can ask.>, she added, including Ari in the response. As she waited for the food to arrive, Sarah did one last check of the modifications she'd made to the shields, making sure that, when she switched the shields over to the new setup to repeat the process with the main shield generator, there would be no issues.

Ykan stayed quiet for once. He didn't like this. He didn't want any food from this sunglassed stranger before- and especially not now. Maybe he tipped his hand as a show of force so that they didn't try and get ideas about attacking? It made sense as a tactical move... Or maybe this idiot was just an idiot. But it still made him completely uneasy. He stood behind Ari, now ignoring Riot completely as well as Sarah....

And well, his focus was solely on the com.

Kyssimri- you know, that blue kid people often forgot was on the ship still and hung around the med bay- and was pretty much the main reason Ykan stopped eating; was panting as he reached the bridge. "Food? We can really order food- can I order food?" He looked from Ari to Ykan, missing the tension in the room and just kind of sticking near the people he knew.

Anima clicked on a view screen for Pierce just as the beautiful blue skinned golden haired woman ran in panting for food. She immediately caught Pierces eye and he sat up a bit straighter. "Who's the looker," he asked her. Anima's tone when she replied sounded a little annoyed. Pierce often thought she was jealous when he was attracted to women. She was just an AI though, and she could assume any form she wanted, what real interest would she have in such mortal things as romance.
#$%That person is not on the ship roster. I'm scanning for any references in ship logs. From appearances and bio scans the person is a dimuroite, and male.%$#
There was perhaps a hint of amusement in her voice when she delivered the gendered news. Pierce cocked an eyebrow, and appeared to lose interest, though he did sneak another look at the lithe figure.
#$%Ari refers to him as Kyssimri Jalmuur in one of his logs. Aedolin intelligence records have the name Jalmuur listed as Dimuroite royalty. It appears your new boy crush is a prince.%$#
There was definitely amusement in Anima's voice that time. She loved to mock Pierce. He quirked a tolerant half grimace, and keyed his comm to send his voice into the Sassy Juice again. As his words rang out, all the hover trays materialized near the person who ordered the food contained.
"Yes, your majesty," Pierce said to Kyssimri. "Orders for food are being placed. You can order anything you like. The best part of the arrangement is that I serve you out of pure enjoyment. I don't charge a single credit. They kicked me off Libra Station for giving away free food, but out here, who's gonna stop me?"
As if in response to a taunt Anima noted that her sensors were now picking up three ships approaching at jump speed. Two wraith class, half the size of the Sassy Juice, but much more maneuverable and with high grade stealth technology. The other, easily juggernaut class, twice the size of the Sassy Juice with an arsenal to match. It wouldn't be but a moment before Sarah's expertly designed sensors would pick up the ships as well. There wouldn't be much time to prepare though and the Sassy Juice would be highly outgunned. He didn't like showing his hand so early in a relationship, but now was not the time to be keeping secrets. Pierce had his display shared on an unused terminal screen next to Sarah, and one next to Ari, and he addressed the crew quickly.
"As you can see, we're about to have company that you can't outrun or outgun. I suggest you maneuver your ship to keep me between you and them, but don't get too close. We're gonna get big."

Between bites of ribs and potatoes, Ari winced at Sarah's conjecture. Yeah, he was pretty damned clueless about security, beyond the basics. That's why he hired someone who knew her shit so she could deal with it for him. For all intents and purposes, even though he did his damnedest not to act it, he was still fairly new to being captain and not crew.

"Looks like Kyss is last up," he said to Sarah, mouth full of meat. "Once he gets his stuff, let's bounce. I ain't buyin' what he's sellin'." He just gave away food for free? No strings attached? Right. Where the hell did he get his money from, then? The money he needed to buy product and fuel to run his "free" business? The answer, in Ari's criminal mind, was that they were dealing with a fellow criminal, and if he weren't so confident they had the guy outgunned and outmanned, he'd be high-tailing it. Because this was some angler fish bullshit right here: draw the prey in with shinies and yummies, and distract them so they never notice the teeth closing in around them.

But Ari could sense the teeth. Because when the guy addressed Kyssimri as your majesty, the hair rose all along on the back of his neck.

Yeah. Yeeeah. There was no way this guy should have even been able to know that.

Kyssimri wasn't on the roster.

Neither was fucking Riot.

But before he could tell Sarah to forget it, they were booking it now...plans changed.

Significantly.

Because it looked like they had friends, and for a hot second Ari thought that those two ships were the figurative teeth, that they were the food ship's muscle--and what muscle they were. Ari didn't have to run a scan to see that they were painfully outclassed, and if this guy didn't know them...

That kind of made it worse? At least then he would know his enemy, somewhat.

Well, shit.

He had no idea what the hell the guy meant by "get big", but he was 100% on board with throwing a stranger under the bus if he could. He grimaced as he flipped some switches and hit some buttons, leaving rib-sauce on the panels, and the engines roared to life as he steered them behind the food truck.

"Tell me those are customers of yours," he told Pierce over the comm.

<If I could get the blueprints to his ship, I could disable it in a way that would take weeks to fix, minimum. Enough time to be long gone.>, Sarah mused, half to herself, in response to Ari's decision, <You not buying it is a given. This guy must think we're idiots. Speaking of...>, she continued privately to Ari, before addressing the 'food ship''s captain, <Since when are stowaways listed on ship's roster? Or prisoners, for that matter?>, she chastised, sorely tempted to ignore Ari's previous orders and switch over the shields now. That she hadn't already had more to do with her suspicion that the ship was more than it seemed, and her confidence that the human hadn't been born that could match her reaction time than anything else. She wanted to get a good look at the real 'food truck' before letting on that their shields were stronger than the other captain thought. A slight baring of her lower teeth accompanied the thought, a small token of pride for the fact that Sarah kept the plans to everything she'd built or upgraded on a terminal with no network connection, or on physical blueprints in a locked cabinet her quarters, if they were anywhere other than her head.

The decision was made for her as sensors picked up the new arrivals, and Sarah responded, with no need for orders, by re-enabling the exclusion fields long enough to switch the shields over and check to make sure they were functioning as needed, several seconds going by in which the ship, to anything outside the field, may as well have ceased to exist, the space it occupied seemingly having vanished with it, the space it should have been occupying moving to position the 'food truck' between it and the incoming ships. <I haven't seen those ships before, but, if they're built anywhere near local standards, it shouldn't be too hard for me to knock out some of their basic systems.>, she told Ari as she ran diagnostics on the ship's systems and vanished from the bridge to begin manually disconnecting any nonessential systems that weren't already separated from the ship's network from it, including both Ari's and her own personal terminals. <As for our food truck 'friend'>, she commented as she worked, then returned to the bridge, then disabled the exclusion fields, <I think we might be about to see just how advanced that ship really is.>, she continued, making a mental note to make sure any AI she did get would have hacking capabilities as the ship once again 'popped into existence'.

<The new shields should be able to stand up to our new playmates, but I'm going to be keeping an eye on them to make sure. I trust you don't need me here on the bridge anymore?>, she asked as she left to go check on the shield generators, taking her food with her.

"Bounty Hunters," Pierce said. "I'm confident they don't know who I am so they're not here for my bounty. Must be looking to make friends with you. Anima, assault form H please."
As The Sassy Juice took action, so did Anima. With the nigrum lotus she could rearrange the atoms of creation as fast as she could think through the processes. Being far superior to any other AI in the known galaxy, that was extremely fast. As the Sassy Juice moved, placing the food truck as a barrier to the bounty hunters, the food truck transformed. No longer was the small ship bearing huge flashing lights or putting out its advertisement over the emergency signal. It was near instantly a dreadnaught class ship, a cool black splotch of heavy weapons against the bright stars of space that dwarfed the juggernaut.
Bay doors opened and thirty-two fighter drones poured out. They immediately began hunting the stealthed ships, quickly putting the wraiths on the defense. The juggernauts weapons were hot in moments and it began firing a broadside of torpedoes, grazers, and lasers. Pierce's new dreadnaught had a shield that held against the barrage, along with other defenses that easily thwarted the attack. His own weapon systems returned fire, pounding relentlessly against the large mercenary vessel. When the shield came down, there was a pause as torpedoes bore into the ship.
When the explosions began, the ship quickly began to break apart. One of the wraiths was already destroyed, the other listing and on the verge of death. Only two minutes had passed since the sortie began, and the bounty hunters were defeated. Pierce's ship began to reshape, forming back into a food truck in seconds. His kitchen flicked onto Ari's screen again, the cool turning in his hover chair to face the pirate captain.
"So that just happened. No need to thank me," Pierce took a bite of what looked like an orange apple, the juice of the soft fruits flesh running down his face. "So would you like me to finish the rest of your orders now?"

Kyssimri's excitement at the thought of getting to order food was quickly dashed by a number of things in rapid succession. The first was being called 'your Majesty'. It made his skin crawl and a visible shiver run through his body, subconsciously hugging himself as a result. How did this man know that? Kyssimri shot Ykan a side glace but the other was gritting his teeth and narrowing his gaze at the man on the com.

Ykan was really on edge now. He had stayed surprisingly silent but he felt his hair stand on the back of his neck too. His gaze fell to Ari. This was all sorts of wrong. He was about to speak up when a fresh hell of trouble came up on the sensors.

The whole thing happened to fast for Kyss to process- he recalled hearing 'bounty hunters' and while it should have occurred to him that no one could know he was even on this ship- this cook did, and panic that he hadn't felt in sometime set in. He backed up silently and quickly left the bridge- hide. He needed to find somewhere to hide. Some nook or cranny that would be left unturned when borded. Some place safe. He darted down a hall back towards the med bay but stopped, his mind and pulse racing, trying to figure out a plan.

Ykan wasn't Sarah or Ari- hell Riot was probably better equipped to help in a situation like this. He could only follow Ari's instructions when it came to defensive maneuvers... but there was no need for one.

He was in awe of the ship that seemed to change shape as effortlessly as he could. Dumbfounded and straight up flabbergasted- any remarks hung on his agape lips but made no sound. When it was all finished and the chef reappeared on the com just eating fruit like nothing had happened Ykan just started laughing.

He couldn't stop laughing. What the fuck had just happened? He didn't know, and he sure as fuck didn't trust this asshole but he couldn't stop cracking up.
