The Fabled *First Date* [Moonie!]
« on: September 16, 2017, 12:19:59 pm »
It had been too long since they'd agreed upon a dating, and originally Raz had planned on flying up to visit when Yavul and Adal were moved up to DoSaM, but...

Well, when it came to waiting, the little guy could only hold out so long before something had to happen. The phone calls, the texts, they were fine for awhile, but after so many days they simply weren't enough.

He wanted to see her again, talk with her face to face. He only had his phone with him because it was required of him; he wanted no distractions. He glanced down at it, watching to see if the screen would light up and it would vibrate.

Either because of excitement or nerves, he'd arrived at the small family owned restaurant about fifteen minutes early (though he was early to everything), and that small amount of time was about to be his undoing. Logically, he knew she was coming, he'd had the place recommended to him by several friends in Haviah, though hadn't mentioned to them why he needed a place. He said 'a date,' though he didn't say with whom. The extra attention was unnecessary, and he knew word would spread like wildfire if they knew Jexica was going to be out in public with him.

And so he sat, pale fingers tapping a little nervously on the tablecloth, glancing at the empty room. He'd paid...probably way too much to ensure their privacy, closed the whole place to the public. He hoped she'd appreciate the sentiment of not being completely hounded by people the whole time.

Besides, he was doing this for time with her...not for the public to bother them incessantly.

He looked down at himself, wondering if he'd dressed appropriately. He looked nice, he thought, dressed in a white dress shirt and a nicely cut sportscoat. He didn't want to go as far as being in uniform - honestly, he hated that thing - but he didn't want to go in his usual attire, either. His clothes covered all his tattoos, save for 'en He' on his throat, the rest obscured by his shirts collar.

He looked nice. He smelled nice. His hair was as tamed as it was going to get. His fingers again found themselves tapping on the tabletop, not from impatience but from nerves. Would it go well? Could he avoid making an ass of himself?

He took a deep breath and flattened his palm on the table, forcing his fingers to quit. Surely if something happened and she couldn't make it, she'd let him know, right?

Only time would tell.

Getting ready for that afternoon’s date with Pilot Echo Razican Eleria wasn’t really all that different from getting ready on any normal day, but somehow it was a hundred times more stressful. It was silly to be so worked up over dinner and a movie, especially on a first date.

Except, well, Jexica hadn’t ever really gone on an actual date before.

No one had bothered to try asking her out on a real date before. Trying to hook up backstage with her was not the same thing at all. It made her into an absolute bundle of nerves all day. Asking her on a date meant that Raz really liked her, didn’t it? Liked her for more than just wanting to sleep with her as quickly as possible, right?

Sure it did. It had to mean that.

Mr. Anderson was a real killjoy about the whole thing, though. Trying to get ready for a date was hard when someone was reminding you not to get too excited about a squad Pilot that could, and probably did, get any woman he wanted.

Well it wasn’t like she expected him to settle down with her and play house or something! Jexica just wanted for him to like her and maybe be a friend to her; a real friend to her.

Bodyguards escorted her to the small restaurant that Raz had picked for their first, and hopefully not last, date. It had taken some arguing, but Mr. Anderson had finally agreed that they would leave her alone with her date. Raz was a Pilot, and she’d had to point out that not trusting him to protect her for one evening could be seen as possibly insulting.

When Jexica walked into the empty dining room, she was wearing a short, sleeveless, pink dress. It had taken a while to decide what to wear out, but she’d decided on the simple, but cute, outfit with matching flats and purse. Her long blue hair was done up in two pigtails and ringlet curls. The curls were actually so full and bouncy it almost looked like she had two feet less hair dangling than usual. She hoped that it was different enough from her typical style that he’d not think she hadn’t put any effort at all into getting ready.

A smile split her face as she made her way over to the table he’d chosen. Her bodyguards peeked their heads in long enough to give a quick glance around, but then left so they wouldn’t disturb their privacy.

“Oh gosh, look at you!” Jexica grinned widely once she was standing in front of him. She was a little happy he’d seemed to really go to some trouble just for her. Mr. Anderson was a mean, grumpy old jerk after all. “Here you go making me feel all under dressed for the occasion. You look really handsome though.”

Razican whirled around when he heard the door creak open, the soft jingle of the bell a kind of music in his ears. He surprised himself by not having been aware of her presence - for awhile he'd been turning at every soundwave his overactive mind could possibly mistake for footsteps. He supposed his excitement had finally caused him to lose his concentration.

He stood as soon as he saw her, his sapphire eyes widening as he took in the sight of her. She was beautiful, and the way the pink of her dress complimented the blue of her eyes and her hair had him mesmerized for a moment. He caught himself staring as she made his way toward him.

He knew immediately she'd put real work into her appearance for their date, simply by looking at her hair - he could only imagine how hard it would be to style it, with as much of it as there was.

"You, underdressed? No, no way. You look....well, terrific. I sorta feel like I should be wearing a cumerbund or something, to be honest." He smiled widely, white teeth peaking from between pale lips.

"And I don't know about handsome. I mean, I tried, but I really didn't know what to wear, and what cologne to use, and...well, anyway," he said, forcing the nerves down with a smile, "I'm glad you approve."

He quickly stepped to the chair across from his, and pulled it out for her. "So...sit with me? I've heard good things about this place."

“You really think so?” A cumerbund? Jexica laughed softly and shook her head, not even aware she was swaying back and forth a little, far too anxious to stand still as she looked him over. Hearing him compliment her and having that smile flashing at her made the little diva feel all aflutter. She even felt a little heat climbing into her cheeks as she idly played with a few strands of hair between her fingers.

Gods, but he was adorable when he got all nervous and rambly.

Her eyes lit up as he pulled her chair out for her, like such a gentleman. It really was a date, wasn’t it? Part of her had still been unsure if she could really hope for something quite like this. It wasn’t what she was really expecting, but she was far from disappointed it.

“Oh my, I feel like a real lady with handsome young men pulling chairs out for me and everything!” She giggled softly and took the seat gracefully, smoothing the hem of her dress anxiously as she did. Being that close made it easy to smell his cologne, and he smelled really good. Trying to distract herself and not stare like a ninny, she looked around at the dining room. “This is really charming, and all to ourselves? You really didn’t have to go to so much trouble.”

Just how much had he spent on this date? Was that a sign that he really liked her? Man, Jexica could feel all the butterflies in her belly and it made her almost sorry she’d suggested dinner instead of just something else. What if she was too nervous to eat?!

"Well, yeah. I mean, look at you," he started, a nervous smile spreading, "you're gorgeous. But, that's, uh, a usual thing for you, I'm guessing." That last part was spoken way too fast, and he could feel his cheeks warming slightly. He wanted to be able to speak plainly, trying to be a little bold so he could get past the nerves.

This was more than simply a pop star diva. He knew the diva, had heard all her music, seen all her videos, heard all the news about her. But being a Pilot, and an occasional subject of skewed public perception himself, he knew that Jexica, the diva, and Jexica the person were likely very different.

Knowing one didn't mean knowing the other, not by a long shot.

"Well..it just seemed right, you know? I mean..." Wow, he had no idea where he was going with this. Again, he could hear his heart racing, pounding in his ears, and after a moment he realized he could hear hers, too. Fluttering, pounding. Nervous, like him.

He cut himself short, and simply smiled, calming down. Putting himself at ease, he figured, would put her at ease as well. "Yeah. I thought it'd be easier on us both if we weren't surrounded by fans. That way we could be...well...normal, y'know?"

Then, a bold move as he prepared to step away toward his chair; a hand, so pale but warm, placed on her shoulder for the barest of moments. Again, he forced the nerves down, keeping his voice as even as he could. "I mean...it's hard to get to know each other when you've gotta have your game face on, right?"

That hand slid away from her shoulder as he stepped toward his chair and sat, sliding his chair forward and looking at her.

"I mean, phone calls and texts are great and all, but...hardly as good as face to face, right?"

It was almost painful to watch, the cutie Pilot practically tripping over his words out of nervousness over her. Jexica did think him being nervous was adorable, but she thought it would be even nicer if he were relaxed and comfortable. He was handsome enough on his own without all the jittery fumbling.

“Mm. Some people may have told me as much a time or two.” People told her she was beautiful, or gorgeous, or hot all the time, but they didn’t make her blush. She thought she might be as pink as her dress just then, with how hot her face had gotten. Oh no, she was going to blow the whole thing before it started by being too silly.

It just seemed right.

That was an odd thing to say, but she couldn’t help but smile when he did. He seemed more confident than a moment before, and as he kept talking the more sense it made. Actually it was super thoughtful of him to even consider all that. Then again, she thought he probably experienced some of the same things she did with fans constantly wanting to gawk or an autograph or his attention in general.

Jexica didn’t have a whole lot of time to mull that thought over in her head, though. A soft tingle went through her as his hand brushed against her shoulder. Her heart must have leapt into her throat it before it began to hammer against her ribcage.

“That…that makes sense.”  She was actually a little dazed, watching him take his seat. It seemed Raz was a little smoother than that nervous little music nerd originally let on. Her face was probably even redder now, and she glanced down at the table with a grin. “Nothing is quite like talking face to face, and I definitely want us to get to know each other. I really meant it when I said I thought you were cool.”

She cleared her throat and folded her hands in her lap, trying to sit still and properly. “So did those good things you heard include what was most delicious on the menu?”

Raz watched her face flush, smiling as she looked down at the table. While she spoke, and he didn't have to speak in return, he took slow and deep breaths, still forcing his heart to slow, trying to make himself calm down. 'Be yourself,' he'd been told. It had taken him the better part of the day to block out everything else that had been said in the Pilot chat - useless information, the sort of stuff that would have soured their time together so quickly.

It didn't help when he did have to respond, when deep breathing gave way to speech and his heart again accelerated, though it seemed he still had a handle on his nerves. An easy, sweet smile came to his face, though he half expected to have to cheat to keep the nervous sound out of his voice, warp an inflection or two into or out of his speech patterns.

But he didn't. He surprised himself, as the words came, easily and naturally.

"Well, there is one thing wrong with that, though, and honestly I've gotta say...me calling you gorgeous is sorta an assumption. See, being pretty on the outside is all well and good, but it takes more than just good features to really be beautiful. The inside counts, too."

He let that easy smile continue as he leaned forward, still going. "I say an assumption, because I haven't gotten to really know you just yet. I mean, yeah, you're gorgeous on the outside. And I think you're just as gorgeous inside, as well. But...weeelll...I think I'll know for sure by the end of the night. But I think I can safely say I was being truthful for calling you that."

He folded his arms over each other on the table, his sleeves dragging upward just slightly, enough that the edge of his tattooed stitches barely peaked out.

"And I really meant it when I said I was a big fan, but to be honest, that's of the music, the dancing, the show. I love music, and I'm sure you know that by now...I think I went on about that enough. And, as far as you being a pop star goes, I love that part of you...but to be honest, it's Jexica the person that I wanna know."

He was getting into it, now - he could feel himself relaxing, getting comfortable with talking to her. He smiled brightly when she mentioned food.

"Well, yeah. Food, atmosphere, service. All good, from what I hear. I did ask them to wait a minute before coming to take our orders...make sure we were well situated, and all..." he sat up, looking over her head towards the desk, catching the eye of their waiter. "I, uh, think we're well situated now, though, so, y'know, we could use some menus?"

Luckily the waiter seemed to catch the hint, and hurried forward with the aforementioned menus, an air of professionalism surrounding him as he handed one to first the Diva, and then the Pilot.

"Ahem...Sir, Madam," he started, "what would you like to drink? I'll start you off with that, and give you a moment to decide on your meals."

Had someone flipped some kind of switch that Jexica wasn’t aware of or something? This might have been the most that Raz had spoken without talking about music while not sounding as nervous as she was. Well, except maybe for the first phone call when he’d asked to hang out with her again. Now he sounded a lot surer of himself with each word.

Jexica felt her face cool slowly, although her cheeks were still tinged with a light pink. She had managed to look up from the table, blue eyes bright as she smiled at him from across the table.

“I want to get to know the real you too, you know.” Raz the music fan wasn’t all that different from her countless other fans, was he? Just another person that watched and listened with admiration for some perceived talent she had. Raz the Pilot that had a cute smile and super pretty blue eyes was a lot more interesting, and that’s who she was hoping to get to know.

She nodded at what he said about having them give them a few minutes before coming over. That made sense. There was good service and then there was hovering. Plus half of her would have been happy to never have them interrupted.

“Oh, can I have sweet tea without a lemon wedge, please?” Jexica smiled at their waiter as she opened her menu and peeked at it. Everything looked like good, homemade comfort food. That was fantastic; she bet everything was so yummy. Although she was torn between being worried about the nervous flutter in her belly and worried about looking like a total pig if she ordered something terrible.

Well, best he knew right away instead of putting it off, right? Of course it was better to be upfront.

“So, um, Raz, you’re a friend of my uncle, right? And uh, you know how much he likes food? Because that’s a family thing and I am going to just throw it out there right from the start. I love food. Greasy, cheesy, heavy, bad for you food that’s just so, so good.” There was no use pretending to be a dainty little salad eater – not that there was something wrong with a salad.

When she said she wanted to know Raz the Pilot and not just Raz the fan, he smiled a little sheepishly. He had to wonder if she would like the real him - granted, she had to know he was excitable and had alot of energy, and was happy alot of the time, but there were other things, that didn't look so good. While he wasn't exactly known as a troublemaker, his antics and enthusiasm did sometimes get him into trouble. And there was the fact that alot of his happiness was merely a face, a facade to hide evidence of a tortured past.

He decided, then and there, he would hide nothing, if she asked. If she wanted to know him for who he truly was, he'd let her know. He only hoped she wouldn't see him as a pity case, and hoped also that perhaps talking about it would alleviate some of the emotional pain.

Someday, perhaps. Not now, when they were supposed to be having fun. At that point, Jexica ordered her drink, and he took a moment to glance at what they had available.

"And I'll have...ooh, you have raspberry sweet tea. I'll have some of that, please! Thanks!" He then took his turn to look at the menu, and blinked at the courses. There seemed to be alot of things he hadn't had, nor heard of. It seemed like that decision may take more than a few minutes.

At first, when she brought Alec up, he thought he would have to start in on the 'I won'ts' all over again - though he had meant every word he'd told her uncle, it wasn't a conversation he was prepared for just yet.

And so, he was a little relieved when she mentioned her and her uncle's shared love of food, and by the end of it all he had the biggest grin on his face he could manage. If she thought he was worried about that reveal, she had another thing coming.

"Okay, look, I'm gonna let you in on a little not-so-secret of mine. I'm exactly the same way...when I still lived here in Haviah, I lived off of AHOW, Pizza Shack, and instant noodles. Since I transferred to the Valkyries, I've kinda traded Pizza Shack for Jackson Junior's....so, yeah, I guess you could say we're both blessed with an overactive metabolism, huh?" He laughed, then, and shook his head. "Oh, wow, that's actually a load off my mind, though. I was worried about, you know, a later date or something...where we could go to eat. AHOW is totally my go-to place." He smiled widely, and leaned forward, whispering in a conspiring sort of fashion.

"My weakness is waffles."

Jexica was just as nervous about whether he would like the regular, boring her outside the whole star thing as he was. Dating was such a rare luxury for her. Honestly she still wasn’t completely sure that it was a good idea, but she was too eager to give it a try with him.

Turning the conversation towards their apparently mutual love for food was a blessing, and a huge relief. Good to know he didn’t care if she ate the same bad for you food that he seemed to love.

“So you’re saying that the way to your heart is waffles? I can get on board with brunch at AHOW. They make great waffles. My favorites are the ones with fresh berries, blueberry syrup, and a dab of whipped cream on top. So yummy and the fruit helps me pretend I’m eating something good for me.” She giggled at the thought. Her manager hated that she ate bad food all the time, but she wasn’t getting fat, so he could shove it.

“For later dates we can just go through all the food places in Haviah. Just pick a new place every time and try it out. That sounds kind of fun and exciting. We could even try to rate them. We might even find new favorite restaurants.” Trying out new places together sounded fun to her.

Later dates.

She said later dates. That was good, right? If she was already thinking of what they could do for later dates, when this one had barely even began, that HAD to be a good thing. It meant that, so far at least, he wasn't scaring her off. Though he had been pretty mellow so far...

""Your favorite sounds almost the same as mine, that's so cool! I like the cinnamon waffles with blueberry syrup, and you gotta have the whipped cream. I've never tried it with the berries, though." He smiled widely, easily appreciating the fact that they seemed to have similar tastes in food. And AHOW, even - if that wasn't something to bond over, he didn't know what was.

"And hopping from one restaurant to the next for every date does sound like fun! New experiences for us both, right?" He let out a chuckle, and winked at her. "And if we find a place we don't like, we could always just go for waffles to make up for it."

He sat back then, relaxing into his chair and just looking at her for a moment, an easy smile on his face. This was just going too perfectly, both of them sharing interests so far and simply enjoying each other's company. And she was just so damned pretty to look at, though he was careful not to ogle her.

But he was bold enough to give her a dusky glance every now and then, as he did now. Though that was cut off rather quickly, as their waiter returned with two empty glasses and two full pitchers of their requested drinks.

"Sweet tea, no lemon for the lady." He set the glass in front of her, and the pitcher within easy reach. "Raspberry sweet tea for the gentleman. Are you ready to place your orders, or do you need more time?"

“Ooooh, now I have to try cinnamon waffles with berries, blueberry syrup, and whipped cream. I bet that’s even better!” Jexica’s heart still maintained a nervous flutter, but the girl was positively beaming across the table at him. Food would definitely not be an issue between them on any dates, since they seemed to agree that waffles were amazing and eating out all over town together would be a great dating adventure. “Absolutely! I mean, if a place is terrible we’d have to get something delicious like waffles to make up for it. It would be bad luck to end a date with gross food.”

When she’d first sat down, Jexica had felt like a tangled ball of nervous tension. All the anxiety about the date and how it would go had weighed terribly on her, but after a few minutes with him she felt much calmer than she had walking through the door.

Things were going well.

An unconscious tinge of pink rose to her cheeks when she caught the look Raz was giving her. Lots of people looked at her lustily; plenty of them were downright perverts too and sometimes it made her uncomfortable. She wouldn’t call this one outright lust but the physical attraction was undeniable between them. It made her body tighten as she bit her lip and let her eyes fall from his face down to the tiny exposed part of his neck.

She could just make out a fraction of that tattoo he had around his throat. It had been impossible not to notice the first time she’d met him. The other tattoos were also quite noticeable at the pool too, but that one she could see now.

If the drinks hadn’t arrived just then she’d thought about asking about his ink. Instead Jexica smiled at the waiter sheepishly as he asked if they were ready to order. Honestly, she’d been so caught up with talking to and looking at Raz that she hadn’t even started to look at the menu. While her love of food was undeniable, it hadn’t been food that had so much gotten her interest today.

“Oh, um, can I just try the special?” That should give her an idea of how good the food really was here.

The weight that had seemed settled firmly in the pit of his stomach had long been whisked away, as he had fought off his own nerves. Raz was comfortable, now, seeing Jexica as less of an unattainable figure of his own admiration, instead seeing her for the human being that she was.

He had to wonder if perhaps his own lack of nervousness helped to abate hers as well. That, coupled with the number of apparent mutual likes and, perhaps, dislikes, could do wonders for a person.

Raz definitely didn't miss the blush that spread across her cheeks, and mentally kicked himself for the visual pass he'd made in towards her. It was no secret he found her attractive - who wouldn't? - but he in no way wanted her to feel uncomfortable.

He also noticed when her gaze dropped to his throat, and smiled slightly as he remembered his tattoo was slightly visible. Unconsciously, he raised a hand to run over his throat, blinking slightly before he dropped his hand back to the table. He wasn't self-conscious of his tattoos, though that one in particular had a funny story to it. He was about to open his mouth when their drinks arrived, and blinked when Jexica ordered the special.

Did she even know what the special was? He certainly didn't, having only scanned it for a couple seconds earlier to look at their drink selection. He cracked open his menu for a second time, blinking at their selections.

"Ummm...oh. I'll have the skillet roasted garlic and parmesan chicken. With mashed potatoes!" He smiled brilliantly up at their waiter before closing the menu, and passing it to the man.

Their orders taken, their waiter departed, and Raz looked back to Jexica with a smile. "So, I kinda noticed you looking at this..." he grinned slightly, tapping his throat.

"I imagine you saw the others during the photo shoot."

Oh it wasn’t at all that she didn’t like that dusky look Razican had thrown at her. Jexica definitely wanted him to be attracted to her and to want her, but everything about him was so very different than what she was used to. Nobody wanted to take her out to a nice dinner or to talk to her about what she liked to eat or do with her limited free time.

They wanted a conquest, to say that they got to fuck someone as famous as her. That was what she was used to, and it wasn’t like it was unexpected. She’d gotten into idol stardom at fourteen and the perverts had come out of the woodwork before Jexica had even won that stupid show.

Razican was different, he obviously felt attracted to her, but here they were on a pleasant date instead of in a hotel room.

“Oh, um, yes I saw them” Jexica blushed and let out a little bit of a sheepish chuckle at having been caught staring. “You know I was so curious, but I was so excited at the shoot that I didn’t want to come off as super rude or anything by asking. I’d love to get a closer look at them sometime, but maybe I could settle for hearing a little about them for now. Surely each one has some kind of meaning behind it for you?”

She still worried she was being rude by asking, but curiosity was hard to keep in check sometimes.

Again, he watched as the red crept up her cheeks, and Raz couldn't help but smile at her. Whenever she blushed, she looked absolutely adorable, and idly he wondered if it was always so easy to elicit that rosy tint.

"Don't worry about being rude with me, seriously. You can ask me anything, I don't have anything to hide. Photo shoot, or otherwise." He smiled wryly, and winked at her, in response to her saying she'd like to get a closer look at them. Two of his tattoos would, of course, require the removal of his shirt, though he didn't have any plans for that tonight.

"Well....the one around my neck was a sort of a..joke from my mentor. He took me to get a tattoo, and that's what I got. He told me I was the hardest candidate he'd ever had to mentor, being a sonokinetic and all, and he wanted to wring my neck sometimes."

Raz chuckled a bit, shaking his head. "He was pretty cool, though. Felt bad for him, having to mentor me, and I guess this was my payback. But I like it anyway, so no complaints here!"

If the tattoo was a joke it was quite a morbid one! Now that she knew the story behind the message on his neck it made her feel a lot better about it. Jexica had been a little worried about it to be honest. She thought Raz was very cool, but how sad would it be if he had gotten a tattoo suggesting he wanted to die?

“So does that mean you were a difficult student? You seem sweet to me, but maybe you were a real pain-in-the-butt as a Candidate.” Jexica giggled at just the thought of him making a nuisance of himself to a poor, long-suffering mentor. Her merriment died a moment later when she considered the other possibility. Had he struggled to make it through Candidacy? What if he’d been close to being sent to TRIM? “I’m sorry, that was…Thanks for telling me about it, though!”

Flustered and scrambling for a recovery in case she’d made a huge blunder. “You should ask me something. Like, is there a burning question about me you have?”

"A difficult student? ....well, not so much." He blinked a little, and his eyes dropped to the table cloth. "Well...sonokinetics are sort of...well, unpredictable, I guess. The power itself is sort of misunderstood, and requires alot of know-how to master. So it wasn't so much me that caused the problem, I think, but having a power that was so hard to hone."

He shrugged, and smiled. "But, I'm here, so I guess everything worked out, right?" He lifted his gaze to her again, the smile reaching his eyes.

Her heart rate, buzzing in his ears, was sign enough that she had bothered herself with her own question. It wasn't a sore subject for him to talk about, but he understood well enough if she wanted to change the subject.
