Timi's Medicine (Arad, GIR)
« on: August 13, 2016, 06:11:17 pm »
Rara sat on the stone bench, quietly fiddling with a small gadget. She was waiting for the two people who would accompany her on this new mission of hers. She was commissioned by a pharmaceutical company to get her hands on a rare enzyme that could only be harvested from the bile of a creature that could only be found on this planet. They said it was to make a cure for Timi's Syndrome, an incurable degenerative disease that has plagued humanity for thousands of years. If this was true then of course Rara would want to help in any way to procure the necessary ingredients for such a miracle cure. Here's the catch though. She would need to hire a crew to help her capture and transport such a fragile commodity. The creature was said to inhabit the wastelands of Teinar and thrived on the pollution rich environment there. Taking it out of its ecosystem might kill it but its not as if the creature would obediently enter its specially made containment unit. She heard they were ferocious beasts. And on top of this, such a mission was top secret. She could not just hire any old buffoon from a bar. A little delicacy was needed.

She sat waiting patiently as the sun was slowly setting. She only hoped the two who would show up here any minute possessed what she was looking for.

It was not at all often Drake visited Teinar. Most of the time, there was little reason to, given that the surface was a desolate wasteland. Sure, there was money to be made from people who wanted mutants from the world as pets or trophies, but most of those types expected Drake to do the hunting for them, and, while he had taken on his fair share of dangerous beasts, Drake was not the sort of person to hunt them down unless it was well worth his time, partly because risking the crew of a pirate ship to hunt down beasts in a toxic wasteland sounded like a very stupid business move, and partly because he wasn't a hunter (of beasts) and wasn't about to start just because some rich idiot who'd never picked up a firearm or blaster in his life wanted a fancy skin on his wall. For the most part, he left the big game to the big game hunters and stuck to moving what they killed for a reasonable fee, given the illegality of it all and the fact that, having two of the larger pirate ships in the system, he tended to carry multiple loads and was a bigger target for pirate hunters. Drake reflected on that fact as he approached the bench and sat down, with a "So, I'm assuming you're wanting some beasts moved somewhere. How big and how dangerous?".

Segunda was in this bussiness for quite some time now. Mercenary work took him everywhere across the galaxy. And he really thought he had seen every job thrown his way. But, when he got this job in particular, he was surprised.

Hunting wildlife and bringing back a live specimen. Segunda had no idea why there were going to catch an animal, but he knew the pay was proper enough to catch his interest. Segunda walked over to the stone bench, leaning against the support and folding his arms, the other two, Drake and Rara, already being present. "I guess that makes three of us?" Segunda inquired with the permament scowl he wore.

"The three of us." Rara amended. She took one good look at the raven haired warrior and decided he was just the kind of man he was looking for. Danger radiated in his aura; gossip was the least likely pastime this hulking man would probably engage in. Perfect. But just to be safe, she'll have to make sure she pays for their silence as well.

Now Rara took a look at the pirate. Here she had a bit of a problem. Pirates were known to have loose lips whether or not you pay them. But no matter. She needed him and his ship now and she heard he'd be crazy enough to make this deal. "I trust you have your ship docked somewhere convenient?" she asked with a raised brow. "and you have the containment units picked up?" she added.

Then turning to fiddle with the small gadget in her hands, she projected something for all of them to see. It was a 3D model of a reptilian like creature with a long snout filled with sharp shark-like teeth with spikes protruding from its head and along its spine, down to its muscular tail. It stood on hind legs that resembled that of an ostrich's. It has a huge thigh meaning it must be a fast runner. Its front appendages, however, resembled paddles signifying that this creature was both an aquatic and a land hunter. It was truly a dangerous beast especially in its habitat.

"This--" Rara began, nodding towards the hologram. Its our target. The locals call its a buwaya. We are to capture at least three of these and deliver it. To where, I am not at liberty to say until we have successfully completed our mission."

As soon as the other male was in sight, Drake began sizing him up, partly out of habit, and partly because he knew of the man. The name Segunda had come up a few times in the time he'd been operating in this galaxy, and Drake was pleased to see the man at least looked the part of the crack mercenary he'd been hearing about, though he had, to be entirely honest, half expected the man would be taller. <I keep forgetting Tartarus grows them big.>, Drake thought to himself. As Segunda got closer, Drake noted the scowl and grinned. This was either going to be very fun, or a waste of his time.

"You'll be pleased to know I remembered to zip up after using the head, too, love.", Drake answered somewhat acidly. He'd come to move cargo and get paid, not to have someone ask him if he'd remembered the basics. "I know I'll be happy with the pay, though. Good mercs don't come cheap, and, way I hear it, Segunda's one of the best. Those containers couldn't have been cheap, either."

As the woman mentioned that she wouldn't be telling them where to go until the job was done, Drake held up a hand. "Two problems there, love. One, wrangling beasts is his job. Unless, when you said we, you meant it, I was hired to transport the beasties, not to capture them. I don't do proxy hunts.", he pointed out, "Second, and this is the important part, I need to know where I'm going if you want me moving anything. If you're worried about word getting out, I see no profit in letting anything slip, and my crew knows good and well that loose lips sink ships and people tend to die when ships sink. Knowing where I'm going also means I can send someone ahead to make sure no uninvited guests show up.", he continued. Back in his younger days, he'd taken a few jobs that only told him where to go after the good were picked up. As often as not, they'd turned out to be setups of one stripe or another, and Drake had learned it was better to pass on those jobs.

Segunda didn't really take interest in the ensuing conversation. He was fine with not being told where they were headed. He was hired specifically for this job to be the muscle, irony had it the muscle they hired was solely his brain for telekinesis, but regardless of that, he wasn't asked for his thoughts, to be any kind of brain in this operation and everything surrounding this.

He smirked as he heard Drake mentioning his reputation, he leaned over the bench slightly, his back  probably breaking off vision between the pilot and Rara. "Thanks," he answered as his eyes met Drake's, before he sat up again.

He couldn't give a damn about the conversation. "I'm the one doing the wrangling here," Segunda answered with a soft snort, but tuning out for the rest of it.

Rara just stared at the man. If his acid was meant to disconcert her, he was wasting his time. Rara was too old to fall pray to those parlor tricks. Instead she just taped something on her little gadget and handed it over to Drake. "For now, I'd like you to secure your ship at these coordinates. The game plan will be for myself and Segunda to incapacitate one and if that proves to be unrealistic for the given circumstance, you will be waiting with an open cage. The rest, I think you can figure out for yourself. We'll be needing those suits I had you pick up from the client. Human lungs can't survive in that foul place." Then turning to the mercenary. "If you have any questions, now is the time."

Drake didn't so much as blink at the staredown. It wasn't the first time someone had tried him in a contest of wills, and Drake had never been the sort of man to bow to anyone. "Anything else I should know about these things? Pain tolerance, poison resistance, natural weapons that aren't so obvious?", he responded as he listened to the plan, using his datapad to send a message to the Warmonger to bring the suits to his location and to send a cargo shuttle with the containers and a fighter escort to the coordinates Rara had shown him, "I have a cargo shuttle with the containers on its way to those coordinates, but that's as far as they go until I know where you're wanting them hauled.", he said as one of his crew, clad in a black, hermetically-sealed Aresian assault suit, brought in the crate with the suits through the same access point Drake had used, the other end of which Drake had ordered the Warmonger to maintain within the bridge in its geosynchronous orbit.

Segunda shrugged. "No questions. If I do my job proper, these creatures are contained in a keletinetic stasis field," he answered easily.

There wasn't much else he could offer or add. To him, it was all clear and simple.
