Dakota yawned as he walked, a cup of hot mint tea in his hands. It was an off day so he could have slept in, but Dakota had been an early riser even before he'd entered the Program. After years of rising at 0500, well, now it was engrained in him, a habit he couldn't shake. 0600 was sleeping in for him, anymore.
Though he'd been moved into the Citadel after graduating to Stage 5, he tried to visit his friends as often as he could and that was how he decided to spend this day. Of course, most of them weren't early risers and would be using the day to catch up on some precious sleep, so he'd just have to kill time until they returned his texts.
It was a bit of a pity he'd have to wait, though, because being an almost-Pilot had its perks! Like getting to not wear that hideous gray uniform. Dakota had gone on a shopping spree on his last off day and now he was dressed up in street wear, jeans and a nice black-and-purple striped sweater, of course accented with lots of accessories: colorful dessert-and-animal themed hair clips and plastic rings. Even his cell phone was decked out with charms. Dakota did have a weakness for cute.
Entering the rec room, he found a table to set his tea on and glanced around. It was pretty empty except--pop! The sound caught his attention and, eyebrows raising, he looked for the source.
And soon found it. Aha! Another eletrokinetic? There were so few of them! He recognized the kid in a "passed him by in the hallways a lot and he shared a class with me" sort of way but he hadn't talked to him much.
Smiling, he stepped a little closer. "Might wanna be careful! Our, uh, gift doesn't always play nice with expensive equipment."
He knew from experience. He'd shorted out more than his share of electronics.
