"We huh? And yeah! Heroes always free captives and stuff. There can be like, kids we rescued. And we totally had to like, take out this entire corrupt system in place." This was a fantasy Alaric could totally get into, even with Cross sharing it.

"Maybe like...we saved a whole town from their oppressors."  What they actually had done was good enough, but no one outside of the Pilots would ever hear about it, so they'd have to make their own stories.

"Oooooh. Yeah! I like that! And like...there should be orphans!" There had been a few kids they had rescued, so it should totally count.

"Okay, okay!  I got it."  The whole story was forming in his head now.  "So we save this town from some sort of oppressive rule, and they're maybe using these orphans as slave labor or something!  Yeah?"

"I like the sound of that." Alaric grinned and glanced over at the pie, "Though, I think that deserves way more than one pie. We were epic. When you get out, we'll have to celebrate our sheer awesome with something."

The words were out before Alaric had even realized they had formed in his mind. This was Cross. He hated Cross. Yet, he didn't feel like an awkward loser talking to him and he was really enjoying the time. There had to be something very wrong somewhere for this to be happening.

"Yeah, we'll go hit a club or something.  Or laser tag!"

Two very different things there, but he fuckin' loved laser tag.  He liked to go in without any psionics and just kick ass with nothing but skill.

"Laser tag?" That made Alaric pause, one eyebrow lifting, which on a three eyed alien was a little odd looking, "You like laser tag? That really...doesn't seem to fit you."

Geeks liked laser tag. Alaric was actual a fan. But people like Cross? That just seemed weird.

"Are you kidding?  Laser tag is totally my scene!  Get to go in there and pwn face.  I would always go with—"

He choked on that last part.  He'd been about to say Raley, and the memories of those genuinely happy times made his stomach turn.  He waved a hand up at the ceiling, in the general direction of the cells, to indicate who he'd been talking about.

Alaric winced. Well, that foot didn't taste very good, "Well, maybe we can go sometime and I can watch you cry when I own your ass."
