Music and Broken Souls, Recipe for Adventure!
« on: October 19, 2009, 02:19:13 pm »
How long had it been? Trapped... bored... lonely... and all inside of a box which spewed music into the world. How long since the last time the teeny tiny android ventured into the outside world to feel the light grace artificial skin? Days? Weeks? Months? Humans and other creatures operated on a fixed idea of time. Even things like elves, fairies, and trees eventually felt the touch of time. Things like P.A.T.? Well not even P.A.T. knew for certain. Days stretched into years or months shrunk to mere seconds. Life blurred past her lifeless eyes or life crawled on hands and knees. Memories though were always eternal. P.A.T. remembered everything ever uttered around her. Cataloged, alphabetized, and shelved for future reference. A bit of ghost programming left over from when the Master needed to remember things that slipped the grasp of his own memory.

Memories kept the little doll company within the little black box. Not that there were a lot of good ones! But even bad memories deserved to be relived when they were only six months old. Weeeeeeell the truth behind P.A.T.'s current predicament wasn't because the box locked her away forevermore! But lay with the young creature who owned the music machine! P.A.T. couldn't help but survey the room in which her taskmaster had placed the darling in through the metal grate. Certainly not like the room where her Master lived. Everything had a place there usually on the floor, but it had a certain sense of order. Here things seemed a bit... off. Voices always rang out here. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, and then the yelling... P.A.T. despised the yelling.

A room filled with the soft crying of the person who brought her. "Why ith you crying?"

How did she end up in such a place?  How did she get mixed up with the people who loved music?
---

People who loved music, like really loved music, were odd folks. Especially during concerts. Loads of strangers getting together, smashing their big sweaty bodies against one another to the beat, screaming at the top of their lungs for more. Not something that P.A.T. thought to be the proper way to experience anything! Let alone the toe tapping beat of the drums, the shredding solo of the electric guitar, or even the funky rhythm  of the most ignored instrument of all! The bass! Well... to be perfectly honest this whole music business wasn't exactly the little android's forte. Machines weren't exactly natural virtuosos. P.A.T. included. At the very least the little darling was better off then some of those other dumb-bots! Those unfortunate little mechanoids that didn't even have toes to tap! She totally knew more about music than those guys!

Master hadn't been all that big on the kind of music that drove strange people to mash together. He preferred things a bit different... with lots of high pitched voices that spoke of cute things and promised him a tale of a simpler place. Back at the old home music found its place as an intro for her old master's escapism. Which of course ended up with the darling P.A.T. being programmed with the same over the top cutesy voice and a plethora of such songs. None of which she liked to sing... Oh well! Not like toys ever got a chance to tell anyone their opinions! Not like they were capable of doing so anyways! But P.A.T. digressed!

For the here and now all that concerned P.A.T. consisted of prying apart the large bass amp and trying not to get caught while doing it. It was tough being on the run! Traveling from new place to new place! Having to face down wild beasts! Rats bigger than horses! Running away from the man! Lets just say P.A.T. felt just a teensy bit sorry for those people in the movies who ended up doing this for their entire lives! P.A.T. though, well P.A.T. didn't know if she could even last years. Whether her body would give out today or tomorrow or if some bit of faulty programming would come up and cause her whole CPU to just crash. Lots of problems for one so small most probably had something to do that she only cost twenty credits.

One more mighty tug and the back panel of her new home found itself torn open. P.A.T. giggled happily and thrust her happy little fists into the air. Nobody even noticed that the amp had skipped a whole .0534 of a second! Humanities hearing ability probably wouldn't win them any rewards out in the galaxy. Heck they certainly couldn't even turn their's off like P.A.T.! Which was the only way she could stand being so close to the musical instruments. Heck! If she had them on as she crawled within the mesh of wires, chords, and weird bulby things that P.A.T. totally had no idea what they even did and made a mental note to look them up letter, her whole head just would have blown clean off those dainty little shoulders! Head or no head! P.A.T. managed to find herself a piece of reality she wouldn't be giving up any time soon!

Pari hated it. He hated that the house was so empty now. Everyone was leaving! Vaughan was kidnapped, Cory was gone, Mitt had just vanished. Pari felt like his whole world was crumbling around him. His panic attacks were getting worse and he was clinging tighter to Jace and Jares in an attempt to keep them from leaving.

The pixie was curled up in his room, face buried in his knees, sobbing. His nails were digging into his arms, enough to draw blood. He couldn't be alone again. He had gotten so attached to everyone in the band. He had even liked Cory, just not when he was picking on him. He couldn't stand it to be all alone again.

And the band was in danger of falling apart. Pari wasn't a strong enough singer to keep it up. He had a good voice and an amazing range, but Pari lacked power. His voice didn't move people the way Vaughan's had.

Then there was a voice. Pari lifted his head, his mascara had run a little, leaving some dark trails down his face. Sniffling, he wiped his nose on his sleeve, "Hello? Is someone there? Jares?"

The moment the words had been spoken her dainty little hands clasped themselves firmly on the mouth that didn't want to shut up. Great! Just great! All she had to do was keep her big mouth shut and she coulda stayed here at least a little while! Everyone should marvel at such a little creature having such a big mouth. Surely the size of her mouth was far big for her own head! If she ever met the maker of her model! Ohohohohoho would that be a horrible little encounter for sure! Silence settled upon the room. If P.A.T. actually needed to breathe her breath would have stopped ages ago.

"Hello? Is someone there? Jares?"

"Jareth? There ith no Jareth here, Master" Gah! There she went again! Shooting her mouth off! Fists of fury beat against her noggin, hopefully imparting some kind of wisdom about not talking. Wait! Oh why oh why?! She already talked! If she remained silent then the other one would start to get curious! If they got curious then they would certainly search the room! IF THEY SEARCHED THE ROOM THEY'D FIND HER!

Oh all this thinking totally made her brain hurt. Maybe P.A.T. could talk and keep herself hidden? Such a crazy idea! Pretending to be some kind of disembodied voice could eventually get her in some kind of trouble... Yeeeeeeet.... To a being existing outside of humanities concept of time, being in trouble tomorrow might as well mean getting trouble a thousand years for now.

"Thah only people here ith Master and me and I ithn't really here! I am but thah voice inside Master's noodle place." P.A.T. interrupted herself with a giggle. "Thah lord Kami-sama hath thent me here to keep the Master company!" Oh when P.A.T. decided to fib she fibbed! Her old Master would be thoroughly ashamed of his little creation now. Old Master didn't appreciate fibbers... no he did not...

"Thah lord Kami-sama ith an omnipo-po-po... omnipotent! Yay I got ith right! Omnipotent god! Yet hith poor thervant ith not! Please spare hith thervant of unknowingness and tell her why ith you crying?"

Pari was horribly confused by the voice. It had a strange accent and talked funny. But it was better then being alone. Pari frowned, looking around, trying to locate the sound of the voice, brushing at his cheeks to try and remove the dark makeup stains, "Uh...what? Pari is confused. What are you?"

Maybe he should go find Jace. Jace would know what to do. But Pari stayed where he was. Maybe he wouldn't have to be alone now. If there was another person. But despite his need for people, Pari was still wary, "Why are you hiding from Pari?"

Oooooh.... P.A.T. nibbled on her fingers nervously. This just wasn't working out like she planned! Not at all! The android peered out through the little holes in the metal grate, maybe the time for making a run for it had finally made itself apparent. Big people did have really long legs though... and her's were so tiny! Each hundred steps P.A.T. took only equaled one step from the giants that stomped around her. Naturally though the little mecha usually managed to duck and hide in small hard to reach places. Spots that they're big sausagey fingers dared not venture too. Such places often made P.A.T. smell less than precious.

"Hiding?" Her stomach flipped and flopped, doing all sorts of rather unpleasant things at the thought of having to tell another fib. Such things went against the old programming which generally still caused the darling little thing a great deal of discomfort. Not like all the things P.A.T. had been programming to do were bad anyways. Oh what harm could come from showing herself now anyways?! If things went from bad to worse the option of making a break for it still existed! Besides this person seemed so sad... a concept P.A.T. only vaguely understood. "I ith thorry..."

With a mighty shove the tiny tot tumbled out from the back of the guitar amp, exploding into the room in a flurry of lace and frills. "Tada!" P.A.T. jumped happily to her feet performing what she believed to be a rather graceful pirouette. "I ith a Portable Android Technician! People uthe me for video games and other things! Moeth people juth call me P.A.T.!" She bowed to the only person in the room big enough to ride on a roller coaster. "Pleath don't be mad that P.A.T. lied to you!" She fell to her tiny knees, hands clasped tightly, begging Pari to not punt her into the next era. "P.A.T. didn't mean to hide away in thah noithe mathine! P.A.T. wath juth thared and loth!" Yes scared and lost! Running away fate of being trapped as some one's toy. Forced to love somebody you hated so that you could be thrown away once the newest model came out.

"Peathe don't hate P.A.T. don't kick her out of her new home in the music box! P.A.T. will love you forever and be you thuper beth friend!"

P.A.T's emergence from the back of the amp startled Pari, causing the pixie to scramble back, wings flailing. He stared wide eyes and shocked, totally confused by the strange creature.

"P.A.T is a...toy?" Pari moved closer, not really afraid of the little thing, mostly just interested. Reaching one hand out, he poked the little thing in the chest, "Why was P.A.T. in Pari's amp?"

Attention turning to the amp, Pari frowned and moved to examine the panel, "Did you break Pari's amp?" His earlier upset seemed gone, feeling better that there was already someone in the room, "P.A.T will love Pari forever?" The androgynous looking boy frowned, his skepticism obvious. He had been told that before and people always left. It was only a matter of time before Jace and Jares were gone again.
