Kadru|| Teinar Wastelands Mutant?
« on: October 14, 2009, 01:39:17 pm »
1. Race name Kadru

2. Characteristics
The Kadru are one of the more human like races of mutants in The Wastelands. They are sea serpent like creatures. They have a combination of sea serpent and human features. Their bodies are like a humans, bipedal, four limbs, similar skulls. It's the additions that make them something a little more interesting.

Their bodies are mostly covered in blue, yellow or green scales. The way the scales cover the bodies can vary but it's generally a very large portion. Their faces, necks and backs are almost always covered in the scales. They have long claws which always emerge from where a humans nails would be. Their ears are also mostly fin like.

Their skull structure is always rather exotic, high cheekbones, full lips, rather pretty eyes, and of course scales covering most of it. One of the creepier things about the Kadru is that they can unhinge their jaw. Their tongue is also very serpent like in appearance, as are their eyes. The hair they have can vary depending on the sex or rank in the group.

3. Homeland Teinar Wastelands and Upper City, normally near and in the Tuor Ocean.

4. Special abilities and distinguishing features
The Kadru have a few interesting abilities. One is an evolution of language. They have their own language very different from the Common Language but it has obviously developed over time. It involves hissing noises.

They are also one of the few Mutants to have clothes in the Wastelands and weapons. The Kadru are certainly more dangerous and clever than most of the creatures in the Wastelands.

5. Life cycle
Lifespan: 100-130 years

The Kadru reproduce through the female laying very large soft shelled eggs. She can produce as many as three eggs at once. The females watch after the eggs and keep them warm buried in the sand of the ocean. After around a month they hatch and infant sized Kadrus will escape the shell using their claws.

The Kadru mature similar to the rate of humans but a little bit faster. When they reach around 10 their bodies are developing into adolescence and they could reproduce at this age. Though that rarely happens normally they wait till around thirteen. The species does not mate for life just by biology. Most Kadru will have several different partners, some not even for the reasons of reproduction.

6. Social Structure
The Social structure the Kadru possess has only been documented through the capture of a few and trying to translate the language. The ability to translate the language into Common is still very much in its infancy. A few things however have revealed themselves through observation and translation.

It's a patriarchal society. It holds one male at its head and all others listen to him, sometimes even view him as a God. He gets to choose his mating partners as he pleases and no one can say no, even if it's not for reproductive purposes. They spend most of their time in the Tuor Ocean underwater building little societies in the sand and mutated corals.

Several different groups of the Kadru exist in the Tuor Ocean but no one is quite sure of the numbers.

7. The Debate
The controversy surrounding the Kadru is a complicated one. The debate lies in the question, "Are The Kadru a Beast or Race?" They have several traits which point towards the fact that this mutation may have developed from humans and some sort of sea creature. Their intelligence alone creates a confusing controversy.

This debate is made even more tangled when the Astika are accounted for. This is a race that theoretically is a mix of Kadru and people. The Astika lead to a whole new tangled mess of where they would have come from, which humans and responsible for the blending and what does it mean to the life of the Kadru?
