1. Name: emotional supressant drug "Nullstate"
What is it?: Nullstate is a special medicine that was developed by thanatos inc. 20 years ago. Since the creation of the original, several newer types of the have been made and various new ways of putting the drug into a persons system have been created as well. The drug, however, was outlawed by most civilized systems due to its sometimes devastating effect on a persons psyche, particularly over an extended period of time.
2. What does it look like?: Nullstate has two primary forms that it is manufactured in: a pill form and a intravenous liquid form.
The pill form would appear as a small, jet-black gel capsule, about the size of a persons thumbnail. it is usually contained in light-proof containers as well, because the medicine seems to expire much quicker when exposed to ultraviolet light.
The liquid form, which is highly toxic if swallowed, appears as a thin dark purple liquid. much rarer then the pill form, the liquid form of nullstate is often contained in whatever is dark enough to hold it so that it will not expire. syringes are used for administration of this drug.
Primary ingredient: the essence of the "black briar" plant found primarily on earth in the Teinar wastelands.
3. What does it do?: Nullstate, as the name somewhat implies, inhibits emotional responses in the person or being that takes it by altering the electrical signals of the brain of whatever being takes it. While it is not entirely understood how the drug does this, It is understood that this process of electrical inhibition can be controlled by the secondary ingredients of the nullstate drug, allowing for numerous suppressant type drugs to be made. here is a small list of the types of nullstate available:
Nullstate type G: the run-of-the-mill nullstate. much like a sedative, it basically slows down the emotional reactions to things without dulling the senses. still used by some military groups today/
Nullstate Type "X": A specialized version made soon after the original, the "X" is not actually an X, but a variable. this nullstate is designed to suppress a very specific emotion as opposed to the general kind. some examples would be anger, sadness, depression, etc. Types like Nullstate type "depression" are still used largely as antidepressants, but are strictly regulated.
Nullstate GUM(General Use + Memory): The newest and currently the most used Nullstate drug, this version, which is refered to in slang as the "Gum" nullstate, is perhaps the most interesting. While its normal function of basic emotional supression is not that impressive, It also boasts the ability to suppress short-term memory to a limited degree and can (in some cases) greatly surpress long-term memory. it also has the added bonus of being able to weaken psychic activity within the human brain, which makes it extremely useful and sought out by some groups.
Side effects/withdrawal symptoms: depending on the type, the side effects can include headaches, general muscle pain, numerous possible emotional side effects and psychological side effects, and short to long term memory loss. while it is possible to recover from long term damage caused by the side effects, it is extremely difficult to do alone, and requires a great deal of support to prevent relapse. rehabilitation, in some studies shows a 30/70 rate of success/failure, with minor differences in percentages of success and failure from outside factors if the subject attempts to quit alone. Unusually, with emotional support and counseling (particularly from a spouse or mate), that statistic changes to 60/40.
Availability: to official government and military organizations, acquiring nullstate of any type can be quite easy if you have the proper connections to thanatos inc, and expensive if you do not.
As an individual, its expense and availability are varying: the closer you are to earth, the greater ease one would have in acquiring the drug. the farther away, the more difficult. Also note that the general brand is the most common, while GUM type is most rare, with the specialized versions of the drug lying somewhere in between.
