Fresh return (Ary)
« on: September 09, 2009, 01:22:09 pm »
Vedrit quickly remembered why he hadnt been to Libra station for so long. It always felt more militarized than Cancer station, and, though he had been part of the Seruna military, he never really liked the feel of it. Atleast in Cancer, there was the Red Light district, where one could dissapear, even if they had no one to hide from.
Walking down the wide corridor of various general stores, hands in his pockets. Sure, there were a few places he could go and blend in, but none that really struck his fancy, so to speak.

I can't believe it's coming out already! I mean already. I just got all my characters to seventy in the first place. You think they'd give people some time to relaaaax, but noooo. Yet here I am, going to get my pre-order.

Aryte was pushing through a few people to get to the the game store she frequented called Ctrl Alt Gamer. She was holding her beg against her chest that held her receipt and frequent buyer card for the store. Her eyes were big and somewhat bloodshot from staying up all night the day before. Damn getting things in order for the release. She rolled her eyes at herself. Someday maybe she would break this damn addiction...

Not today though.

She spotted a few random people walking around dressed up. Aryte grinned a sort of sneer in it. Aryte didn't need to dress up to look like a character. She naturally did. Not any from WoW of course, but she could have been. She pushed passed a couple more people. She always seemed to be going against the current of people when she decided to leave her apartment.

Vedrit wasnt really paying any attention to where he was going, and walked practically straight into someone, though he came from the side.
"Sorry." He blurted out. The woman he ran into seemed to be in some sort of rush, anxious and a little irritated. Something was going on that was a big deal to her.
"Something going on?" Vedrit asked, taking a quick look around from the corners of his eyes, and searching on the net via his implant for any events today, right then, to be specific.
"Why are all of these people dressed up?" he asked her, noticing all the strangly-clad people acting...well...str angely.
A message blipped, and a list of publicly-notified events scrolled. It wasnt a long list, not with certain specifics put in as criteria. A couple games were being released, some "indie", some professional. Judging from the card in the womans hands, she was after a game.

Aryte was too distracted looking for the entrance to the shop amidst the people that she wasn't really moving out of anyone's way. Not that she normally did really. Ary tended to walk and sort of ignore people, just a habit you might say. People tended to move out of what looked like a creature's way. She was subconsciously aware of that though she would probably never honestly say that was why she walked where she wanted.

Then someone ran into her. She grabbed hard onto her stuff so it didn't go anywhere. She lifted her eyes a little surprised and pulled out of her internal monologue. It took a moment to answer the person in front of her, probably longer than really necessary.

"Oh it's alright," she waved her hand dismissively sending the problem away. "I was distracted, not quite paying attention. She had expected the person to move passed her not really try to engage her in conversation. One of those normal interactions people had. However, he did just that. She smiled at him as he asked her about it.

"Ah, World of Warlocks expansion release day." She held up her papers for example. She didn't really seem embarrassed at all. She hadn't taken if far enough to dress up though.

"Some people dress up for it, like say a movie release? Just not as many. I didn't think I needed to." She slid a hand down her figure in the air and smiled at him. Pointing out her obvious differences from most.

Vedrit couldnt help but chuckle. She almost looked like a mythical creature. Almost. He had heard of the game, but it was one of those games that didnt grab his attention, so he never spent much time playing.
"True. Though Im sure you wouldnt, even if you didnt have your certain...looks." he said with a smile, hoping she wouldnt take it as an insult. There were undoubtedly stranger looking people out in the universe, and ones that didnt look as good.

Vedrit really couldnt say why he was striking up a conversation with the woman. Not that it made much difference. Unlike other people he had seen, she was different in a good way.

(Sorry, my internet is down, so I will be sporadically posting)

Ary lifted an eyebrow at the man, looking over him.

Was he...flirting with her?

She recovered quickly smiling at him pleasantly, trying not to appear entirely inept at conversation. Aryte didn't meet very many people she didn't know on the Space Station. of course she seemed to hang with the same crowd. The squad, and her computer. A few other friends here or there, normally met through those two mediums.

"Well I dunno, if I didn't have my looks," She swept back her hair, some laughter coming too, "I might have been forced to go as some elf queen." She gave a dramatic pose her chin close to her chest looking up through her eyelashes. She wasn't flirting really, Aryte just...acted that way.

"I'm Aryte by the way, it's probably nice to introduce yourself when you meet someone."

Vedrit chuckled, and gave an elaborate bow "Vedrit. An honor to meet you, your highness."
This was all really on a whim, ofcourse. He had no idea who this woman was, or that he would be on the station very long. Regardless, she was pleasant enough. Whats wrong with some friends? He spent too much time with his ship anyway. He might even invest in a personal diary, keep some secrets from that ol' bucket o' bolts.

Just realizing what he had said, not the highness part, but the looks part, might be interpreted completely opposite of what he thought she might think it to be. Vedrit was no mind reader, and had to just go with the flow. You know, reading body language, and the like.

"I take it you've been on-station for a while?" He said, trying to shift the conversation to a more casual route.

Aryte smiled as he bowed. Well this one had some jokes himself. That was nice to find.

"What a gentlemen! It's hard to find those nowadays." She leaned and whispered behind her hand like she was telling him a secret. She straightened herself out and motioned him to follow her towards the store.

"If you want the lovely company that is me you have to go to the game store with me." She grinned and started walking towards the store as he asked her about how long she'd been on Libra. She smiled taking her Id out of her back pocket and flipping it open as she walked showing it to him.

"Actually I'm military. I'm a TOPZ captain." She grinned and flipped the ID closed, sliding it back into her pocket. "I've been here since I was..." well she didn't know exactly how old she was technically since she had no idea how old she was when her parents left her here. "A youngin'." She finished figuring that was a better answer than dumping out all the family turmoil to someone she didn't know.

Vedrit chuckled, following her into the store, close enough to hear her over the crowd.
"Military? I could have been a pilot, but I went my way as soon as I respectably could. Im a freelance pilot now, mostly escorting merchants around." he said with a bemused smile. Sure, he was as loyal to Seruna as any soldier, pilot or engineer, but he just preferred the liberties of being his own commander.
Now that he thought about it, he had been trained on this station.

"A freelancer eh?" She looked back at him as they stood at the entrance to the store. She wasn't quite looking at him her eyes wandering off to the various displays of the game. She really couldn't help it. Aryte's mind was focused, and when she got focused she could be distracted from almost anything else back to the original goal she had.

"We have a name for people like you in the military it's...oh NO WAY!" She took off passed him grabbing up a plushy into her arms of a rather large pissed off looking dragon. She checked the price tag and her eyes bugged but she still held it tight to her. She was reading over the tag which looked like a miniature little spell book for a moment before realizing she had left him there. She went back over to him quickly.

"I'm sorry...I get easily distracted around the merchandise. I've been waiting for this." She held the dragon out slightly to motion to it. "...ever since I heard they were releasing it." She sighed. "This bitch gave me so much trouble in game, you don't even know." She waved her other hand in the air. "However she happens to have similar colors to me." She motioned to her hair with the hand she was waving with.

"But yeah we were talking about military and freelance!" She was happy to find their point again. "Well, it's sometimes not very nice. You guys clogging up the sky and all that, the easier way out." She chuckled and squeezed tighter on the dragon with her one arm. "I really don't mind it. I just love a feeling of a team that large. Sometimes we're more like a family."

Vedrit laughed outright at her excitement. And over a plushie, of all things.
"It suits you." he replied when she returned. Eh gad. Was he flirting? Sometimes it was hard to tell for him, what with rarely talking and being around women and all.
"Yeah, I've heard the military often called mop. I can only guess at the meanings behind it, but I think its more of an acronym than insult. Military Operation Pilots is my guess." he joked, hoping she would take it as a joke, "I wasnt too enthused about the military. It just...didnt suit me, I guess."

"Oh I can understand military not suiting people." She waved her hand dismissively then leaned forward towards him. "Just means you're not as good." She winked at him then shook her head. She wandered towards the front getting in the line expecting him to follow her. She couldn't really spot anything else that she really wanted from the shop...the dorky thing was that she had most of it already but she just wouldn't bring that up.

She looked at the line ahead of her and sighed. She was used to a wait like this. She'd stood there for game or gadget releases. She'd even camped out a few times. She smiled internally at the memories. Maybe she could get Vin to go with her to one sometime. She hoped so, they could have a lot of fun in a tent...

Aaanyway.

"So, any fun plans today instead of standing with a dorky stranger in a very, very very long line?"

Vedrit mocked being insulted at her comment. Him? Not good enough? Pah. Pure nonesense. He couldnt claim being an ace, but he was no greenie.
Following Artye to the line, Vedrit looked around. He was picky about what games he played, and few titles sparked any interest. He heard of nearly every game in the store, like a few, and actually owned a handful. If someone asked, he considered games like music. Sure, some people listened to every genre out there, but most music out there wasnt considered music by him.

"Plans? Ehm..." Vedrit really had absolutely nothing going on. No one to escort, his ship was refuled and ready, no appointments. Nothing. But he couldnt let that become common knowledge. The untouchable is more desirable, or so it sometimes went

Aryte smiled at his reaction to her comment. She was completely pleased he found it amusing. She hugged the plushy a little bit tighter to herself as the line moved up a couple people. It really was slow, all the pre-ordering and faithful geeks. She turned back to him when he started to answer her question about plans. Apparently he didn't know if he had plans, or he was doing that guy thing that guys do where they pretend they do. She would pretend to ignore it.

"Ah what? Oh you do. I see." She smiled to herself but only for a moment. Her face went back to the way it had a second ago slightly pleasant. She hummed a little to herself then found it would probably be a good idea to continue the conversation they'd started.

"So what sort of jobs do you get?"

With a sigh, Vedrit corrected her, "No, I have absolutely nothing going on." he said. Dang, she knew the trick. Kill joy.

"Jobs? Oh, you know, robbing, pillaging, disrupting flow of goods and people. That sort of thing." he joked. Ofcourse she could, and propably would, figure out quickly that he took jobs that prevented that sort of thing. In Saruna space, atleast.

"And what of you? Out making space dust of pirates when not strangling plushies?" Vedrit asked with a smile. Part of him envied how tight she was holding that dragon. Part of him feared for his life if ever in its spot.

She grinned when he admitted he had no plans. He was a fun one! Perhaps they could be friends. She always needed more real friends. She even giggled when he talked about pillaging.

"Of course you do." She shook her finger at him. "Watch out or I might have to turn you in." She released one hand from around the dragon plushie and pointed her finger at him accusingly. Then she narrowed her eyes. "Yeah, you just better watch out." She then pulled her hand back and stuck her tongue out at him.

"Oh yeah, I dust pirates constantly." She gave a laugh. "They make more sense dusted most of the time." Her upper lip twitched for a second. Damn bugs. "However we call em Bugs. We go bug zappin." She peeked ahead looking at the line which seemed to have moved up a drastic two people. She was itching to get her hands on the dam expansion. At least she had someone to keep her company while she waited.

Vedrit waved a hand in mock dismissal, "Bah, you could never catch me. Im the Dread Pirate Roberts." he said, doing his best to not burst out in roaring laughter. Oh the sillyness.

Since Vedrit wasnt rushing or in a hurry, he didnt notice the line moving, if ever so slowly.

On a whim he couldnt resist, Vedrit said "Perhaps we should go zapping sometime."

(Sorry its so incredibly short. My amuse abandoned my when I got side-tracked)

She grinned at the joke. One of those movies she'd seen...at some point or another. She couldn't remember the title. The Queen's Husband? The Princess's Wife? Ah pish-posh. That didn't matter. She was enjoying herself quite a bit. Probably the best release of a game she'd been to. She had something to distract her from the damn wait.

"Ah, you want to go Zappin with me?" She chuckled shaking her head. "I can do a bit of shooting. Not much really at all. Will, my Gunner, he shoots. I fly." She held out a hand like an space ship wing and made a quiet noise. She really could have just ruffled her wings in response instead.

"Well, I mean just look at the wings."

"Figures, what with the wings and all. I like being the pilot and the gunner, then you dont have to worry about the pilot and the gunner thinking the same thing. Most of the time." he said with a smirk.

"So, about this crazy line. Its crazy, huh, being all long and slow." Vedrit added, rocking back and forth on his heels. He was starting to run out of things. It really didnt suprise him, though. He didnt do too much talking anyway. This was probably the longest conversation he had in a while.

As an after-thought, he added "Maybe we could go get something to drink later."

Ary arched a brow as he asked about the line, then gave her one. She startled suddenly. Was he asking her on a date? Did this happen to most girls? They go on a date with one guy, someone they really like...that they dig then some other guy asks them out and they don't want to be mean, and they don't want to ask if it is a date because then the girl seems all arrogant and full of herself and...

Breathe Ary, Breathe.

"I, uh...are you asking me on a date?" She swallowed hoping that didn't seem to rude. "It's cool if you are..." she put her hands up showing she wasn't offended. "I just want to be sure before I answer that question." Ary might not have been smooth but she didn't want to navigate into something she wasn't sure she knew how to handle. She was already doing that with Vin. That was the good kind of lost though.
