Title: HELP GAIZ
Post by: Anonymous on May 25, 2009, 12:13:38 pm
Okay, so I'm about to pull my hair out over this. I can't decide what colour palette to use or how I even want to go about painting this. Maybe I just need to stop and take a fresh look at it sometime later, because it's getting me very frustrated.

Here's the WIP: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/4084 ... mskwip.png (http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/4084/sventridemskwip.png)
Link form because it's kind of big, and I may have to stab myself in the eye if I mess up the tables.

It's Sventri Demsk! :D
... Now if I could just paint it.
Help? D: Is part of my problem being the far too light base colours? They are supposed to be pale but...

what's the mood effect you want to achieve? I can suggest a little trick that can help you try out some effects without touching what you already have there, if you're using a program that lets you use layers. (if you're NOT using layers, damn, man, they make your life SO MUCH EASIER)

Handy tutorial is http://http://windbladeicepuppy.deviantart.com/art/lighting-trick-tutorial-118388750 , I suggest you download the picture, as it's positively HUGE. Works for photoshop, but the same trick can be successfully reproduced in other programs

As a fellow artist (I can call myself an artist, right?), I'd really like to help you, but I'm terrible at explaining things in details. It, uh, comes with not being a native english speaker. I hope my little cheat can help.

Well, the only thing I want to do is paint him realistically-ish. I don't have a particular mood in mind, considering this isn't a full piece. Though I was playing around with purple shadows and that failed pretty hard.

Thanks for the trick, haha XD; I'll keep it in mind.

Oh and yeh, I use Photoshop.

That's where the lil' trick comes in handy, actually. Shade him like you normally would, then paint the trick layer in purple. I've used it with gray, black, blue... even red and yellow for a fire effect!

Actually, it seems putting it down and waiting a few days helped. Here's what I have now:

cool. I can never get all the muscles right when drawing arms, especially not in a dynamic pose like that. Nice job!
