Physical Description
Ava is a rather nondescript woman at first glance; she's the kind of person who doesn't exactly catch the eye, but the more often one looks at her, the more you see her, the more intriguing she becomes. Though her features lean a bit toward "plain", there's something about her gray-green eyes, something behind the easy smiles and laugh lines that speaks of things that would have been better left unseen.

Her hair is thick, curly, and red, often pulled back simply under a bandanna. Like many Edani she is fair-skinned, though unlike her fellow countrymen she seems to have trouble getting any sort of a tan--she mostly just ends up "lobster red" under the heavy smattering of freckles whenever she spends too long in the sun.

Personality
Not exactly "bubbly", but bright and happy by nature, Ava likes people, and they tend to like her.

Despite this, she's somehow a rather solitary individual; she's lived in Reckless for almost eight years, and still no one in the small frontier town could really say that they know her. She's polite and friendly enough on the surface, and a skilled medic--that's all that really matters to most folks.

Sometimes Ava will be quiet, too quiet, contemplative, as though she's alone in a room even when surrounded by other people. Her eyes lose focus and she'll simply stop still wherever she is, lost in herself. It happens frequently enough that it has become a large part of how she relates to the world.

Most residents of Reckless have learned to identify and ignore this particular quirk; the only person who can snap her out of it is her young daughter.

Magic/Abilities
Though she has no magical or psychic skill to speak of, Ava is an incredibly skilled medic. She knows a great deal about both field medicine and more traditional medicine that might be practiced in a hospital.

Relationships
Val, her seven-year-old daughter. Her name is actually short of "Valkyrie", though neither she nor her mother really shares that much.

Val is a special little girl--and her mother would kill to protect her.

History
Ava is one of maybe three people currently alive in the universe who can claim that they escaped a close encounter with Mother without being directly mutated or otherwise "enhanced" by her.

She met the scientist--whom she only knew as "Dr. Molly Faern"--when she was twenty-five, just graduated from her second round of medical training and looking for a job. Dr. Faern was impressed both with her skill, and with Ava herself. She said that Ava was exactly what she had been looking for.

Ava always found it odd that she only said it after looking over a mandatory blood work-up...

She worked for Dr. Faern for nearly three years, mostly as a laboratory and research assistant, but occasionally helping out Molly with more personal errands or other tasks. They spend so much time together, and the genius scientist was so kind to her, always praising her skills and telling her that they would do great things together... She'd thought they were friends.

It became clearly and disturbingly apparent that they were not when, three years into the position, Ava stumbled upon Mother's hidden records, and she learned what "Dr. Faern" was really up to.

She tried to leave.

She was caught.

She woke up a few days later, knowing that Mother had done something to her but not sure what, and terrified. She made a second attempt at escape and this time succeeded--though in the years since she has always worried that it was a bit too easy.

It wasn't until she'd been free of Mother for a few weeks that Ava realized exactly what had been done to her. Her own genetics had been left alone; she was too old to be of use to Mother, of course.

But the baby that Mother had artificially inseminated her with was a veritable blank canvas.

Valkyrie was born roughly eight months later, and it was clear to Ava what had been done to her, at least partially. Gene splicing was always Mother's go-to experiment: she'd mixed avian DNA into Val's, and the girl was born with wings.
