WALTER’S QUICK STATS
Name: Walter (This is not his real name; he adopted this name upon entering the solar system where Earth and Edanith are located. He found it easier to simply adopt a new name and “conceal” his identity. If you want his real name, be prepared for a linguistics lesson.)
Age: 45 (Earth years)
Gender: Male
Species Strovian (Alpha)
Ethnicity Crive (From the mainland)
 Height: 6’ 6”
Occupation: Mechanic aboard the Sassy Juice
Residence: Quarters aboard the Sassy Juice

WALTER’S IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description: Walter’s species is humanoid, appearing human at first glance. Like most of his species, Walter is tall by human standards, although he is considered only of average height among his people. His overall build is “large”: broad-shouldered, large feet, large hands, solid but not exactly stocky. He’s heavier than he looks due to his bone structure.

He isn’t exactly handsome, not by conventional standards on his world or among the species he’s encountered, but that doesn’t bother him. He doesn’t suffer from any deformities, and he’s healthy. It doesn’t matter that his mouth is a little big (literally), or that his ears are a little big (although his hair is growing out and covers them). His hair is a medium shade of brown, his eyes are a striking shade of blue, and his peach with rouge undertones, particularly noticeable when his body is under stress.

On his right shoulder is a tattoo in calligraphy; he will not translate it or discuss its meaning.  He has various scars and recovering bruises and scrapes along his body, and his hands are now calloused from the mechanical work.

Personality: Walter likes being a mechanic because he empathizes with broken machines and relishes the ability to fix them with his hands. He doesn’t mind that he works for pirates, because he gets to work with machines. The risk to his person or the morality of working with pirates doesn’t seem to faze him. He has his reasons, after all, and he assumes his shipmates have similar reasons, or at least equally valid ones.

Walter’s personality is a little over the map; “unstable” is the wrong term, because he isn’t dangerous, but certain things will upset him, causing him to become withdrawn or overly emotional. “Inconsistent” is also incorrect, because there are patterns to his behavior, as baffling as it might appear; learning what sets him off is a project.

Provided he isn’t upset, he’s a relatively affable person: at the very least, he’s polite and believes in sharing (things, not stories, which is an odd fit for a pirate crew). He doesn’t talk about himself, but he does ask questions of other people. Not necessarily important questions, but unless he’s in a mood, he tends to enjoy conversation with other people.

Adapting to prejudice has been one of the most baffling experiences of entering this solar system. Walter is becoming used to being distrusted or disliked over something he can’t help, and which to him is as natural as breathing. That doesn’t mean it’s never hard, but he is getting used to it.

Magic/Abilities Strovians are naturally psychic. Those rare Strovians who are born without active psychic abilities are considered to have a disability which is rectified with implants intended to stimulate the brain, somewhat similar to cochlear implants in their purpose. There is no debate about the ethics or necessity of such implants, because there is a widespread cultural understanding of the importance of psychic bonding.

Walter did not require the implant.

Like all Strovians, Walter is able to broadcast and receive thoughts and to create mental links of varying degrees with other beings; breaking these links can have serious consequences. Walter is also capable of shielding his mind, although doing so for long periods of time is exhausting; likewise, he is capable of some forms of mental influence, but he doesn’t discuss these more than saying “I’ll take care of it,” when his talents are required.

Relationships:

Whomever he left behind on Strovia, he doesn’t discuss, but there do seem to be a fair number of holophotos in his quarters.

Currently, he has his shipmates, with whom he interacts to varying degrees.

History: Walter doesn’t speak often of his life in his native solar system, on his native planet; he has his reasons for this, primarily the fact that if he does, then he gets emotional, and when he’s emotional, he’s essentially useless to himself and those around him. It’s easier for him to live in the present than it is to live in the past.

What Walter does divulge, and because it’s obvious after a medical scan, is that he isn’t from this solar system. He’ll talk about his culture as a whole or some about his species, but the past is a painful topic.

He joined the Sassy Juice after being found on The Cancer; they were in need of a mechanic, and he was in need of a job and a fair amount of distance.
