The Cancer / Well, hellooo. [Katie!]
« on: December 14, 2011, 11:18:25 am »
Another trip to the Cancer, another visit to his favorite tattoo parlor.

Striding out of the establishment, shirtless, he still felt pretty high on endorphins and, as was customary, he planned on feeling even better after a few drinks. He'd gotten a little work done on his back tattoo, dropped a bit of extra cash on it, and now some of the peacock feathers had a little color. Of course, the tattoo was currently covered but eh, he wasn't in a state for showing it off yet anyway. Maybe once the skin wasn't all inflamed and it had stopped leaking blood and ink.

As much as Ari denied it, like most people he was a creature of habit. After the tattoo parlor, he headed to a little pub and diner he often visited after getting some work done when he just wanted to unwind and milk the little natural high for all it was worth. It was a nice place with good, greasy food and decent prices on the drinks, so he headed inside--

And promptly froze.

There was a chick there.

And while Ari didn't really consider himself massively tall or anything, though he was tall...this chick was huge. Not just tall huge, but buff. Maybe that was an exaggeration, but she kind of looked like she could give him a fun time in a brawl.

Well, you found all sorts on the Cancer, and Ari tended to be intrigued by weird shit--as long as it wasn't too weird. Tall, buff chicks and nagas were one thing, but when it got into the realm of armless, four-legged women, that was when his brain short-circuited and plummeted straight into uncanny valley.

Striding up to her, never one for subtlety, he leaned on the counter next to her and gave her the once-over. "Well, hello, darlin'," he greeted with a grin. "Buy ya a drink?"

The Cancer / Bend and cough! [Rinaaa!]
    « on: December 11, 2011, 10:13:18 pm »
    This looked like the place.

Nicolai paused outside the door and checked the notes he'd scribbled down. He'd asked around the Cancer to learn where he might find the best medical practitioners and this one, this Dr. Edwards had been mentioned by several people as one of the best if you had no insurance and no ID.

Sounded like his type. Dr. Edwards didn't keep records of his clients, thus no paper trails, and--with luck--there would also be no records of his existence here, either.

Nicolai stepped inside and into the lobby and headed up to the receptionist.

"G'day, miss," he greeted the woman. "Is the doctor in?"

Ever since that lovely wake up call, Shiloh had been pissed.

It wasn't just that Pilot Tierney had burst in on him in bed with Finaa and Christian, oh no. That was bad enough. That was mortifying enough. But no, it had to be taken that extra step further, that extra step that sent him over the edge from embarrassed to infuriated and left him steaming for days afterward. If that was all it was, he would have been horrified at being outed like that--but now he didn't care.

That was nothing compared to being accused of raping his best friend.

That had left him feeling sick and angry in a way that few things did and he didn't know how to express that. It left him feeling tentative around Finaa, because what if? He never wanted her to feel pressured--and yet what if he had? After how he'd snapped, after what he'd done in that classroom...

No, he'd never hurt Finaa. He never wanted to hurt her. It would kill him if he ever did and the times they slept together after that had been rough because he'd felt nervous, like he couldn't trust himself, like maybe he made her. He'd been extra gentle, extra cautious, had checked and double-checked that she really wanted it because he'd rather just sleep beside her if she was even a little lukewarm.

It was difficult to bounce back from something like that when it hit so close to home and so close to the truth.

After he had a few days to cool down, though, the sickness eased up and left only anger. He would never hurt Finaa--and he couldn't just let the accusation sit. People could think what they wanted about him and he didn't care, but this was different. This he did care about.

Finaa was one of the few things in his life that truly mattered.

Shiloh found Gabriel on the flight deck atop the Citadel as he was on his way to visit Amaranth. The other Pilot had just dismounted his own dragon and was heading for the changing room without acknowledging him, but Shiloh made him.

He cut Gabriel off, moving to block the other Pilot's path and standing his ground doggedly. Gabriel opened his mouth to speak but Shiloh was faster.

"Now you listen and listen good," he said, and the tone of his voice got Gabriel's attention, made him snap his mouth shut. Shiloh spoke slowly, deliberately, as opposed to his usual quick, slurred manner. He met Gabriel's eyes and held them. He wanted every word to count and didn't want there to be any room for confusion.

He'd had time to think about this--and he didn't give many things much thought.

"I want you to know something. I would never, ever hurt Finaa. Ever," he said, carefully enunciating each word and pausing to let that sink in--and give himself time to think of what to say next. "She's my best friend in all the world. I want her happy. I want good things for her. I would kill for her and I would die for her. Fuck, I'd kill myself before I hurt her."

He took a deep breath, fingers curling into fists. It was difficult getting the words out; he was never good with this shit, much better with just punching the problem away. This just wasn't one of those problems.

"You understand? I love her. A lot. More than anything. I'd never hurt her. So..." He stifled a frustrated sound, not quite sure where to go with what he was saying. "So I really don't like you saying I would!" he finished.

That said, he was done. He moved around Gabriel then and crossed the space for Amaranth, leaving the other Pilot staring after him.

The Cancer / Pumping steel! [Rina!]
    « on: November 30, 2011, 11:56:58 pm »
The gym was mostly empty at this time of day, which was both a shame and a blessing. A shame because it meant there were less glistening, busty hot babes and muscle-ripped dudes to check out and show off in front of, but a blessing because that meant there were more machines open for use and less worrying about sitting in someone else's sweat pool.

Towel tossed over his bare shoulder (because, as usual, he was getting away with going shirtless where he could!), he'd finished off his bench presses and headed for the pull-up bar, and as he fell into the familiar rhythm, he realized it was a little tougher this time around than it had been last time. Granted, he'd just finished pumping steel, but endurance-wise? He was already getting tired. Fuck, he didn't think he'd slacked that badly!

He redoubled his efforts, the fear of flab spurring him on--and the promise of relaxing in the sauna after. It was a shame it didn't look like there'd be anyone to share it with, but oh well--being alone there was better than getting crowded by some fat, hairy dude.

Which had happened last time. It was pretty hit or miss, sometimes you got a hottie, sometimes you got a shriveled old thing.

    Residence
    Teinar

    TRUFAX__________________

    Physical Description
Kyori is humanoid with several differences. Her ears are long, thin, and stand straight up when alert, with turquoise fur and thicker tufts of it at the tips. Likewise, her hair is turquoise in color and streaked with white. She wears her hair short, wild, and rather spiky, with longer bangs that fall into her eyes and travel down the sides of her face. Her eyes are a pale pink color--or eye, rather. Her right eye is covered by a brown leather eye patch to hide some rather hideous scarring and the fact that she has no right eye.

Her skin is a deep bronze shade, save for a few patches of turquoise scales here and there. There's a patch on her brow, below her left eye, on her belly, and a few on her back and legs and arms.

Her tail is long, slender, and prehensile, covered in thick turquoise fur. It's also tufted, and the "tuft" takes up about a third of her tail from the tip of it, the hair there long and silky. She tends to keep it braided so it doesn't get in the way too much.

Her legs are long and built for speed and power, and are built like a human's legs until just below the knee, where thick turquoise fur grows. Instead of a human's feet she has large, powerful paws and walks digitigrade. Each foot has four toes and one dewclaw, and her claws are retractable, each one a good inch long when unsheathed. Her hands, humanoid in shape, also possess retractable claws which extend to about an inch long. Her teeth are also nice and sharp, large canines and all..

Kyori had a muscular build, though not to the point of being bulky--she is built for speed as well as strength. Her hearing is excellent, though her eyesight is better in the dark than during the day. Her eyes are a bit sensitive to sunlight, and sudden bright lights can temporarily blind her.

    Personality
    Proud, proud, proud.

Kyori is convinced of her own superiority and won't let anyone forget it!

    Magic/Abilities
Iannu are deadly predators not just because of their speed, strength, and claws and teeth, but because they pack two other tricks in their arsenal. All Iannu have a special gland under their tongue, separate from their saliva gland, which produces venom. Iannu are known to spit venom into the eyes of their victims, which produces an intense burning sensation and temporary blindness. They can spit up to ten feet. They may also coat weapons (including their claws) with their venom; it doesn't produce any paralyzing neurotoxins, but the added burning sensation can make even a scratch excruciating.

Their second trump card is camouflage. The only magic the Iannu have is a sort of cloaking magic. It enables them to blend in with their surroundings, their skin and fur changing color and pattern to match. It's not perfect; when they move, there is a slight delay in the magic as it shifts to match the background. Thus, if someone were looking, they'd be able to see the Iannu. Still, it's fairly effective and it can be turned on and off as the Iannu pleases.

    Communication / Teinar's Aftermath
    « on: November 23, 2011, 10:42:48 pm »
Follow-up to Teinar has been breached!

Aside from two casualties and minor wounds, the danger has passed thanks to the quick thinking of Teinar's hunters. Most of the creatures have been killed, though a few are still being rounded up. Teinar's citizens are assured that these stragglers are not currently a danger, too deep in the tunnels to be near any population hubs. Several hunter outfits are working to get that cleaned up.

As for property damage? There has been some structural damage due to the collapsing tunnel and there are crews there currently working to repair the damage and get the tunnel unblocked. Citizens living in the area have been temporarily evacuated to other areas of Teinar until the area is 100% clear.

Plotting Center / Shiloh wants plots! |: Give them to him.
    « on: November 17, 2011, 11:35:28 am »
Yup! 8D I wanna get my Pilot, Shiloh, some more plots and threads and get him interacting more with other characters. Lawd knows the boy needs the socialization.

He needs friends, enemies, rivalries, the works! <3 I'd really like to get him some more buddies. He's actually very lonely, as his only current friends are Candidates, and he can't really spend much time in the ATC. xD Pilot and/or citizen buddies would be sweet!

He is a bit of a difficult character as far as that goes but I am more than willing to plot and help. But basically, the key is: don't make him feel stupid and treat him like an adult. <3 The barriers he throws up can be broken down! It just takes a little work. And then you have a tank for life. |:

    "Sooo? How do I look?"

Leaning against the frame of Ben's door, arm resting against it, Ari motioned at himself with his free hand and grinned. He'd lost his usual attire and instead had on a nice black suit, complete with tie and jacket, and clean, polished shoes. It was a radical change from his usual messy and often shirtless look and, he'd admit, he felt a little stifled by it. It was probably just his imagination but he felt all hot and kept wanting to tug at his collar. Sure it wasn't the first time he'd done this and wouldn't be the last, but it also wasn't like he did it everyday.

He'd even tamed his shaggy white hair into some semblance of order, made some noticeable attempt at slicking it down with moderate success. The sleeves hid his tattoos and the facial piercings were the only thing that really wrecked the illusion.

"Pretty slick, huh? So, ya ready or ya still gotta primp and stuff?"

    Physical Description
Curvy with a rather large bust, Naomi is toned and fit and quite shapely. Her skin is a dark caramel color and her eyes are a pale violet color. Her curly white hair falls just past her shoulders, save for her bangs, which are cut straight across her forehead.

When not on duty, she likes to dress in casual chic clothing, mixing a casual look with a sleek, sophisticated one. Likes wearing belted dresses, boots, nice sweaters, that sorta thing! Enjoys getting dolled up and usually wears light make-up.

    Personality
Despite her rather feminine style of dress and her neat appearance, Naomi's a rather down-to-earth gal and is very used to roughing it and loves adventure. She's not afraid to get down and dirty (whether it's a fight or a long trek through dusty frontier) and she loves the outdoors, having always been a tomboy in girly clothing. In fact, she took to the frontier even better than she took to the city she was born and raised in.

Is a little flighty and has a tendency to fall madly in love and lose interest just as quickly. She kind of lives for the honeymoon phase, liking that initial rush of emotion and newness.

    Magic/Abilities
    She's a Mordecai! 8D

    Relationships
Both of Naomi's parents are alive.

She has a younger brother, Ari Maxwell. She worries about him, but he doesn't really keep in contact.

Advanced Training Complex / What do we have here? [Tamasha!]
    « on: October 18, 2011, 02:36:11 pm »
Keziah had scheduled a casual little meeting with her new mentee, a boy who seemed like he would be...a rather interesting case. Authority issues, acted before he thought, but with a fuckton of potential and a rare ability. He was the sort of kid the Citadel would make sure made it through the program, one way or the other. Besides, none of those faults were anything they hadn't encountered in plenty of other candidates; some of their current Pilots had been candidates just like that.

Yamato, of course, was a little different in that he'd gone poking his nose into things he shouldn't have--and that both benefited him and weighed against him. On the one hand, he was a valuable because he'd pointed out several insecurities that had since been patched and someone with that kind of skill so young could be a strong asset to the tech department if he passed. On the other hand, if he slipped up...

And it also meant he would be carefully watched, monitored for loyalty. He'd been reading some dangerous stuff, and they did not want to bring in someone who could grow up to be a Gospel.

But, that was just background. Keziah wanted to focus on the here, the now, and the future, but mostly the present for this meeting. She sent the boy an email giving him the time and place and made sure to arrive early herself.

Keziah found a table in the cafeteria and set a folder down onto it, filled with a stack of papers. History exams from her earlier classes. As she waited for Yamato to arrive, she focused on grading them. As was the case most days, she was out of uniform and dressed in street clothes, an off-the-shoulder blouse, boot-cut jeans, and a pair of heeled boots.

Look for the woman with the bright pink hair and eye patch, she'd said toward the end of the email. She was usually pretty damned easy to find.

Ships and Factions / Sassy Juice; pirate ship. Positions available!
    « on: October 07, 2011, 02:06:52 pm »
    Ship Description:
Sassy Juice is a ship built for speed and evasion--as it should be, considering what they do--with decent defense and weaponry. While it's no behemoth, it's large enough to hold up to two Libran fighter ships in its docking station or one larger ship. Has a makeshift brig, living spaces for crew, a bridge, cargo bay, docking station, and kitchen.

While the inside of the ship is rather understated and simple, the outside is a mess of color and design done in a sort of graffiti/tattoo art style. It's a constant work-in-progress that gets added to whenever Ari has a little extra cash. The words "Sassy Juice" are written in large, colorful, graffiti-style letters across its side. Ari likes to let any long-term crew members add their own mark to the paint job.

    About the Crew:
The crew is mostly Edani, but Ari sometimes picks people up from the Cancer, provided they hold no allegiances to any of the other nations. Most of the crew are members of a much larger Edanith-based pirate gang, which Ari is part of, and they owe a certain amount of money to the bigwigs of the gang each month, keeping for themselves anything else that goes over that amount. They mostly target Libran and Aedolian vessels, mostly pleasure cruisers and merchants while avoiding military ships. However, they will go after military ships provided there's a good opportunity to come out on top.

While Ari and his first mate are both capable of piloting and performing the other miscellaneous ship duties, they of course need crew to split the workload up with!

All members should be capable of, and comfortable in, combat and firearm usage. They should also be comfortable in a dangerous life of crime. ;D

    Crew Members:
    Captain/Pilot:
    First Mate:

    Medic:
    Mechanic(s):

    Hired Muscle:

    Tech Specialists:

This is a tentative list of positions! Really, if there's some position you want to play that I don't have listed here, just say it! We can include it! I just couldn't possibly think up all the stuff his ship would need or that people would want to play. xD

The Cancer / What's up, doc? [Rina!]
    « on: October 04, 2011, 11:33:15 pm »
I should look into a better medic.

Ari's on-board medic wasn't bad--he'd dug the bullet out of his shoulder and sewed him back up again just fine--but he also lacked a license and didn't have the good stuff. At least, they'd run out of the good stuff, a lot of which they'd pilfered from a medical supply ship en route. It had lasted them a while but he'd ended up using the last of it recently when they'd boarded a ship and, well...he got poked with lead. The wound was still fresh and far from healed and it hurt like a fuckin' bitch, throbbing with his pulse.

Which is what brought him here, to a slummy part of the Cancer that he was quite familiar with. Might as well make a pit stop while he was here.

Spotting the familiar hole in the wall place, Ari paused, finished off his cigarette, and snubbed it out under his boot. Then he strode inside and made his way over to the receptionist, leaning onto the counter to peer down at the woman behind it--and down her top, too.

"Hey, baby," he greeted, blowing Lacey a kiss and winking. "The doctor in?"

Curled up as best as he could in a shitty hospital chair, Gabriel half-dozed in the room with Alaric.

Alaric was still out, but he was stable and that news relieved Gabriel--though he was still beside himself with stress. Would he be okay when he woke up? Would there be lingering effects? Well, at least he wasn't at risk of dying anymore; it was still scary to see him there, though, paler than usual (and that was saying something) and still when he was always so lively. He looked dead.

Then again, most people laying unconscious, doped up on drugs and IV fluids, tended to look like shit. He hated hospitals.

And sure, as Pilots, they landed themselves there pretty often, but usually it was for stuff like, oh, a broken bone or some scrapes or something. Outpatient stuff. And that was all in the line of duty. That's what made this even more freaky--this happened off duty. Someone had been targeting them. For whatever reason, someone wanted them high off their asses and out of their minds at a club--and every reason he could think of was one that made him feel nauseous and tense, dirty and violated.

Thank gods Bart had been around.

Alaric would probably be dead if he hadn't been.

Gabriel shoved that thought away fast. Alaric was safe now, in good hands, but just the thought of losing him was enough to make his stomach clench and throat tighten. He'd never worried about that before--wasn't even a possibility! It was Alaric! He couldn't lose him!--and it was terrifying to think of how close they'd come. Not even in a firefight, but at Syn from some stupid club drug.

    Please be okay.

The Citadel / Special delivery! [Moonie!]
    « on: September 27, 2011, 03:18:00 pm »
Last night had been an experiment.

Having his own apartment, finally, was awesome! Not just because he got a place to himself to decorate however he liked, but because of the oven. The oven was what made this place glorious and he'd put it to fast use. Over the past week or so that he'd been Stage 5, he'd baked more things than he knew what to do with and so had given them away to various Pilots and personnel. It had been years since he'd gotten to do this (because despite his best attempts to improve the quality of the cafeteria's food, they never had allowed him back into the kitchen) and maybe he'd gone a little overboard, but it was fun!

And it left his whole apartment smelling like home.

Today, however, his baking had a purpose. He'd tried his hand at his mom's carrot cake recipe (a recipe that dated back to his great-grandparents, at least), which involved grating carrots by hand and making up a cream cheese frosting. It turned out great for a first try, if he said so himself! Which was good, because it was for Pilot Meadows.

For ease of delivery, he'd made cupcakes instead of a cake, put them into a large Tupperware container and a bag, and then he was on his way--after making sure he looked decent, of course. He was trying out something new and had straightened his hair.

Considering the work Pilots did, coffee was always readily available in the Citadel, either through vending machines if you just wanted a quick cup or through the cafe, and Dakota stopped off there before he headed for Summer's office. It didn't take him long before he reached it and he rapped lightly on the door.

"Knock knock! Special delivery!" he called.

Slipping out of bed, Shiloh started gathering up the clothes that had gotten tossed around the room. Christian's room, to be exact. The guy had ordered him up here again but now it was time to leave, quietly before he noticed--and before he could say anything about it.

He found his boxers at the foot of the bed and slipped them on, making as little noise as he could, and fished around in a pile on the floor until he found his jeans and squeezed into those. Somehow, his shirt had wound up near the room's TV and, after stealing a glance at Christian to make sure he was still sleeping, he wandered over to it and picked it up.

...Knocking over a pile of game cases in the process, which his shirt had apparently been resting on.

Shiloh cringed at the sound, but then blinked in surprise, distracted from his worry of waking Christian up. Wait, games? Video games? Christian had those?

"Fucking asswipes!" Kota yelled, throwing his hands up. "I can't believe this! Now what're we supposed to do?! Fucking fuckers, I hate this place! I knew this was a bad idea! I knew one of us should've stayed!"

A quick run into the nearest town--a, what, ten minute trip, tops?--ended with he and Sei Yuk returning...to find their ship gone, the dust still settling and ground still hot from its take-off. He could see it in the distance, just a small dot of motion on the frontier. Gone. Stolen. They'd never catch up with it and had no means of doing so in the first place.

With another loud curse, Kota kicked the ground in frustration and then took a deep breath, hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. Anger would not do anything. It wasn't going to get him his ship back. It wasn't going to get them out of this mess. Letting his breath out slowly, he wiped a hand across his sweaty forehead. This heat was not making matters any better nor helping his mood.

He whirled on Sei Yuk then. "I locked it up, right? You saw me lock it."

    Trigger Warning: Non-con/rape, violence

The ship wasn't his usual target, but beggars couldn't be choosers and Ari was strapped for cash. He may have blown a big chunk on it on his vessel's new paint job (which, like his own body art, was constantly being added to) but that was irrelevant! A target was a target and even if the ship didn't have much cargo, there were plenty of people he could sell the ship's parts to.

And there were plenty of people he could sell the occupant to, as well.

His crew was already at the landing bay, armed and ready, and they had their weapons pointed at the cockpit even as Ari arrived on the scene. Pretty decent vessel; he'd make up more than what he'd lost. All that was left was getting the pilot out and out of the way.

Striding forward, he banged on the cockpit windshield. "Alright, you can either come out, or we open you like a can of tuna. It's all scrap metal to me, so I don't give a shit either way. Your choice."
