Subject to Change (Tally)

Basilica was uneasy as he sat at the bar on Synesthesia's main floor. It had been a while since he had come here, despite secretly living in the club for years. He fiddled with his long twisted goatee and looked down at his drink which he had not touched. It was only water, and he still was not about to drink it.

He looked around the room trying to take in everything. He was feeling more anxious these days than normal, and it was just for that reason that he had gone to such lengths to hire a body guard in the first place. He hadn't felt this on edge in some time... and these feelings generally weren't just paranoia. He had good instincts.

Deep breath, relax... it's just Syn, you've been in here before.

Basil was use to the club's lower levels, and they were far less crowded, with only certain people being allowed down there. He taught down there... did his research. It was much more comfortable down there.

In fact he only came up here to escort Daithya down to the lower levels. He could have gotten someone else to do it, but he had to start conquering his own new found fear of crowds... having Daithya around would help with that. He looked down at his bracelets and let the bangles shift on his wrist some.

This was important. It had to all work out.

Daithya had no trouble getting into the club.  His chip was a fake, and a good one.  He'd been using it for a couple of years now.  It came from a good source, a reliable one.  The Synesthesia bouncer ushered him in without a word or a second glance.

He passed down an entrance hallway lined with erotic art and red lighting.  The pulsing beat of the music vibrated up through the floor and assailed his ears as soon as he opened the inner door to the club.  It was like every other dance club he'd ever been in—noisy, smelly, and too crowded.

He couldn't let his distaste show.  Starting now, he was a young, irresponsible pleasure-seeker with too much time on his hands.  He looked and dressed the part.  Tight clothes that showed off his body, dyed hair, a little bit of makeup.  He slid through the crowd and smiled back at all the people who smiled at him.  He didn't flinch away when hands touched his shoulder, his back, his ass.  The people around him weren't dancing so much as humping each other in time to the music, and he was pretty sure others were having sex in the dark corners of the club.

Basilica sat at the bar.  Daithya caught his eye first, then joined him.  He sidled up to him like someone looking for a fix or a good time.

"Good evening, sir," he said in a low voice.

Basilica had been watching the younger people on the dance floor, some of them practically having sex, and kept a sight line on the entrance. He wasn't one to judge what consenting individuals wanted to do on a public dance floor, but it did make him uneasy, despite how wild he was in his youth. He wasn't the only older gentlemen in the club but he was one of the few not throwing around money and trying to garner pretty young groupies.

He saw Daithya as he approached, saw him get groped a bit even, and then settled next to him. The low voice was sort of sexy, even if it was just for effect. Daithya was good at blending in here, Basilica had to admit. He was probably coming across as a nervous pervy old man himself... something that disgusted him to think about, but a part that was better to play than the truth. Besides... he was human.

"Hello beautiful." He said softly as he let a smooth but almost shy smile cross his lips. It felt strange to meet his new bodyguard with such words, but there were too many people around to be natural. He was antsy at the thought of just how many people were in the large room. "Is there something I can do for you?"

All he wanted to do was go back down to the lower levels, but he couldn't just run down there and draw attention to them. Just play it cool... this sort of thing used to be no problem for him.

The first thing Daithya took note of were their exits.  The second thing, anyone around them that held too much of an interest in the principal.  He settled into a routine of observance, striking a balance between fawning at Basilica and glancing up to keep an eye on their surroundings.  To others it would look like fascinated people-watching.

"We should get me set up."  He kept his words vague, but didn't try to cloak everything in double meaning.  His job here was to maintain appearances and ensure anyone who tried to assault the principal would discount him as an insignificant threat.

Since Daithya couldn't get to the lower floors himself, Basilica would have to escort him down and prep him with whatever credentials he'd need to come and go.
