New Begginings
« on: August 11, 2008, 06:17:10 pm »
I have an idea for a new place. You know how, in history, both Canada (From France) and Australia (haven't learned where yet) become dumping grounds(No offense meant to anyone who lives in Australia or my fellow Canadian) for criminals and people who wanted a new life? Well how about Aedolis (or any other colony) dumps it's criminals, rebels, and just humanoids who don't conform to their rule on a planet that only certain higher ups and pilots know the location of and the are put there with only the clothes on there backs

or-

One of the Seruna Space Stations crashes on a planet far away from where most venture and they are stuck on said planet until
a) Another station comes close to the planet and they find a way to survive and create a signal until that happens or -
b) They accept that they are stuck there and try to relearn some survival skills. Remember that these people/humanoids have probably spent most of their life in space or have at least spent their time on planets in cities. So hopefully we will have some 'eww dirt' types lol.
c) Any other ideas?

There's a weeeee bit of a problem with all those ideas.

Aedolis doesn't let anyone out. Ever. They're a dictatorship, they kill people who rebel and criminals are likely used for something else. As far as I know... I haven't read the info more than once or skimmed it a second time. x3

And any planet is light years away and Seruna is just in the outter solar system I think, so crashing into a planet isn't... sense making.

BUT.
You can have a ship full of people MOVING planets crash somewhere. They could have been put to sleep so they don't know where they are or who they're with, they could not even speak the same language. Brings in conflict and what-not.

Way to be mean to the newbies, Choco.

Draconian is right; Aedolis is a police state and very few people are ever allowed in and out of its airspace. Mostly, these people are Pilots so it's a moot point. For their part, the Seruna types wouldn't want to go to Earth unless absolutely necessary. That's not to say this wouldn't work; it's a classic survival scenario and it can certainly be achieved through other means.

What would force settlers to fend for themselves? They can't land in a city, clearly... but what about the Wastelands or the Triadic Mountains? Failing that, talk to Rhi. I'm sure she can make you a little colony, maybe on the wreckage of a city that resisted the Network. With a few changes, this idea can still fit perfectly into the main storyline of the planet.

But who in their right mind would make an emergency landing on Aedolis?

Are they aliens or humans? If they're humans, how would they get there? Maybe a diplomatic crew from Edanith or one of the stations was shot down by Aedolis and left for dead. Mia seems to retain exclusive rights to the Laenarians, but it would be interesting to see them in a situation like this one. The language barrier between Laenarians and Aedolians might prove for interesting RP (like Draco said).

Aedolis was meant to be a post-apocalyptic nation, so it would be nice to see some survival threads here and there. Silver's brought up a very good concept ("low-tech in a high-tech world"), and it's kind of sad to see such immediate backlash against it.

Some people managed to escape in personal starcraft, though most attempts at that ended in utter failure; even more managed to hide, a move that was far more successful. In response to the worsening conditions on Earth, Teinar had started construction on an underground city that had been in the planning stages for quite a few years. It was only in the beginning phases of construction but even so, it offered a refuge to those civilians who were close to the construction site. Fortunately, it wasn’t until some days later that Aedolis troops discovered the construction site that those Teinari had used for shelter—and by that time they had already fled. Those mages among the trapped Teinari had used what magic they had to shield the site from view, making the entrance blend in with the rest of the mountain that it was built into.

In the beginning, it started out a little more than an underground refuge but, with time, effort, and perseverance (and a lot of magic and engineering) it was eventually developed into a full blown city. While not as advanced as the cities of their former home, considering their limited resources, it is still an impressive and rather beautiful place—which may seem surprising, considering it’s underground.

Another option is to do a Teinar FB to the formation of the city, with characters scraping together the last vestiges of civilization and turning them into what would become the last stand against Aedolis. Thoughts, anyone?

Let's see...I could see a small space ship crashing! Though a Seruna Space Station would be unlikely. The Space Stations are huge! Kinda like little floating countries, and they're built more for orbiting around than they are for zipping around at fast speeds like a space ship. They're pretty secure. However, say a space ship crashes...maybe a group of curious aliens, or folks from a Space Station. Their ship malfunctions, and whammo! They crash out in the Wastelands or maybe in Aedolis near somewhere like Ipollius (a dead city cut off from the Network).

I'd probably suggest somewhere more like the Wastelands, or maybe somewhere by Sevenwinds. If it crashed inside Aedolis, with the way security is heightened currently (and it's already pretty darn high security), the dragons would likely notice a foreign object crashing within their borders and investigate, since it could be a hazard. But that could be interesting in and of itself--the people would be brought in and be forced to assilimilate into Aedolis' culture and caste system. That would be pretty trying for the poor folks used to their freedom.

If they crashed in the Wastelands by Teinar, they'd really have their work cut out for them to survive. The air is very poor quality as it is (very highly polluted, not healthy to breathe), and when the wind picks up it blows all matter of stuff around and into the air, from the oceans and off the ground and from certain plants that produce toxic pollins. When it's breezy and windy, the air is unbreatheable, so it'd be a challenge for them to find a way to deal with that. Then they'd have to try and survive all the beasts that prowl around. =O It could be a fun scenario! Very challenging and tough, but fun!

Same deal for the Sevenwinds area. Now, Sevenwinds isn't as affected. It's built in an area that has always been embued with strong, arcane magic. It's one of the few pockets of paradise that exists on Earth. The air's clean there, it's quite pretty, but it's not a large area and isn't well known at all. It's by a huge mountain range. So there would be challenges facing them in the mountains surviving there...and then they could probably find their way to Sevenwinds to recover. Because they'd probably need it. xD

Or something...just ideas!

There's also always the option of crashing a space ship on some random planet and playing out that scenario there. :3 That's what the Open Space boards are for!

Hope this helps!

Silver: I would be willing to play a character on said ship, if you're still interested.
