Classical Inspiration (CINNABUN!)
« on: June 23, 2017, 10:43:10 pm »
Crap. Crap. Crap.

Lilo sighed heavily, and deleted yet another attempted art file. And another. And another. And another. What was that one even supposed to be? The WIP looked something like a winged alligator shooting fire out of its tail, but Lilo was pretty sure that had never been the intent.

Man, today was just sucking for inspiration. Then again, things had just been sucking in general-- the drilling was becoming monotonous in a way and unfulfilling-- they couldn't really work on anything that new with a team member missing. And then there was Rodion being Rodion, that was to say a giant merciless asshole who Lilo absolutely despised. And to think, Lilo had tried to offer an olive branch to the jerk.

Guess it was time for Pilot Chat. Lilo flicked through the programs on the tablet, closing out the art program and opening the chat interface. It didn't seem like very much was going on there, either. There was the usual: bad attempts at fliring, nasty jokes, Rodion being Rodion, with a bit of input here and there from the more SANE Pilots on staff apparently.

Like Royal! Royal was nice. Lilo never had trouble working with Royal. Not that it looked like she was presently online. Damn, that was a bit disappointing. Lilo set the tablet down with a sigh, and looked around the living room. It was cushy, and comfortable, with plenty of blankets strewn over the couch and armchairs, posters lining the wall and suncatchers by the windows. But, and here was the problem, it got stifling.

Even under all the modifications that Lilo had tried to make, there was still the unmistakeable air of it being REGULAR. Standard formatting. Regulation measurements. A copy of a copy likely copy-pasted all over the Cardinal levels.

And that sort of thing never inspired any masterpieces. Lilo considered going out into the city proper, take in some neon signs and pretty people and all the bright twinkling lights that went along with the capital of the world! But, and here was kind of the sad part, Lilo also didn't want to just be trudging around all alone. Going on a sightseeing mission for inspiration just wasn't the same when there wasn't anyone else around to bounce ideas off of. It just ended up being a little sad, made Lilo feel self-conscious, and always resulted in going home early while pretending that the entire trip had been just to get Manolins.

Yeah, that was sad. Lilo frowned, picked up the tablet, opened the chat again. Selected Royal's name and opened a direct message, hopefully to be seen sooner rather than later.

{Hey!! I was thinking of going for a walk on the upper ways! Maybe get some ice cream or smth I dunno, you wanna come with?

So bored. :CCCC

"Royal? Are you awake? I believe one of your... friends is trying to contact you."

The sound of Myrrh's resonating voice stirred Royal from her rather light sleep. It wasn't uncommon for her to sneak in a few minutes of rest whenever she got the chance, and the fact that she woke up still fully clothed on her couch instead of in her bed indicated that this had been another one of those shorter naps rather than a full night's rest. While she wasn't exactly thrilled to have been woken up so abruptly, she appreciated the fact that her dragon was looking out for her. After all, what if her friend really needed her? She couldn't bear the thought of missing something important simply because she'd slept through it.

Still half asleep, Royal fumbled around for her phone on the table in front of her for a few seconds before her hand finally made contact with it. Bringing it closer to her face so that she could actually read it, she scrolled through a bunch of notifications from the Pilot chat until she found the message she was looking for.

Something from Lilo.

It was no secret to her that things had been kind of tense among the Harpies lately. It was uncharacteristic of Lilo to let things like that get her down, but even she had seemed a little on edge recently. Hell, there was four frowny faces in this message. Four! That was, like, four more than Royal had come to expect. Clearly, something had gone terribly wrong!

...okay, maybe not. But she certainly couldn't just leave her friend hanging! If she did that, then she had no business calling herself a "friend".

{Count me in! I'll just have to take a few minutes to get ready. Stay put, okay?

~Royal~
}

Ice cream was great and all, but the thing that really excited her was getting a chance to spend time with her teammate outside of drills. Even if they weren't planning to do anything particularly exciting or significant, there was no way she was going to turn down an offer like that. That being said, she couldn't go out in public looking like she'd just gotten out of bed. She felt the need to look presentable, so the next few minutes were spent tidying her hair, getting washed up, even shining a few of her scales... generally, just making herself all pretty, or at least what she considered to be pretty.

As soon as she was all finished up, she was immediately out the door and on her way to Lilo's place. It didn't exactly take her very long- the were both in the Citadel, and she wasted no time along the way- and soon enough she found herself knocking rhythmically on Lilo's door, rocking back and forth slightly on her toes.

The tablet gave a chipper little blip, and Lilo all but dove to open the reply. Which, of course, seemed a bit silly, waiting on bated breath for something as simple as a "LET'S HANG" response, but Lilo was more than a little antsy and an antsy Lilo was not exactly the most... graceful person in the world.

Or, at all.

Royal's reply shone like a beacon-- or rather, it glowed like any electronic screen did in properly dim lighting. But Lilo was elated nonetheless; and when Royal mentioned that she needed time to get ready, the young Pilot Cardinal realized that there would probably need to be a change in wardrobe on this end as well. Lounging pants were all well and good in your own living room, but going out amongst the general public? Nooot so much.

Standing up from the nest of pillows and blankets, Lilo stepped over to what was supposed to be the bedroom of the apartment, but ended up looking like just another nest of comfy-ness, the mattress removed from any kind of frame and set in the center and piled high with more pillows and blankets. Just the way Lilo liked it. It... did make for some seriously interesting storage space, though, and the pilot Cardinal flicked over several blankets to get to the drawers underneath the bed.

It wasn't like the outfit needed to be TOO fancy, of course. Black jeans, artfully torn, a suitably comfy grey shirt, a reapplication of considerable smudgy eyeliner et voila! Ready to be seen by human eyes. Er, or rather, whatever Royal's sort were called again. Cool-something? Lilo was pretty sure it started with 'cool'; that was the easiest way to remember it because they were just. So. COOL.

There was a knock, and Lilo finished tying off the floral laces in scuffed up boots. Just in time! The tiny Pilot ran to the front door after throwing several art supplies into a messenger bag, and subjected Royal to the biggest widest brightest grin known to man as soon as the door was open.

"Hey! All set and ready! I don't actually have a, y'know, plan for where to go, just kinda like wander around and see what's what. I hope that's okay."

It took the entirety of Royal's willpower to keep herself from performing one of her signature tackle-hugs the moment that the door was opened and Lilo appeared on the other side. Her smile was incredibly inviting, and greeting people in that fashion just felt right to Royal. Made her feel happy. She felt her muscles tense up as she barely managed to resist flying into the other room at top speed, but she ultimately managed to hold it together. Over the years, she'd come to learn that there were quite a lot of people out there who didn't really appreciate that kind of physical contact, at least not without some kind of warning beforehand. Besides, Lilo was rather small in comparison to Royal. That wasn't a factor she had to worry about too much when she was interacting with Myrrh or another Kulshedra, but the last thing she wanted to do was to injure her friend in what was supposed to be a friendly gesture.

Of course, that didn't mean that Royal's excitement couldn't be displayed in other ways. Her ears immediately perked up from their default position while her eyes widened by a substantial amount which, combined with the steady swishing of her tail on the ground behind her, made her seem almost like some sort of kitty. Well. A giant-blue-scaley-lizard-human-kitty.

"Oh, of course that's okay! Besides, it could be kinda fun to just... walk for a little while. And I wasn't really gonna be doing anything else today. Besides sleeping."

She gave a reassuring nod and a toothy grin of her own before taking a couple steps back and stretching her arms. Her eyes gave the Pilot Cardinal a quick scan in the meantime, eventually landing on her... bag? Bags held things! Which made them interesting! As long as you didn't already know what was in them, at least.

"Soooooo. What're you bringing with you? I mean, I can't really think of too many things that you need to take with you on a walk."

Lilo was very, very small. It was a very adequate assumption to think that a full tackle followed by a full hug from someone that easily, easily held several heads in height over the little Harpy would likely utterly shatter Lilo’s rather delicate bones.

Of course, Lilo did handle equally destructive hugs from their equally tall father without much serious injury, so perhaps there was something to the whole “drink your milk for strong bones” thing.

Lilo shot Royal another beaming grin, and opened the bag to reveal its contents-- a sketch pad, another, smaller tablet, and an absolute mishmash of pencils, both regular and colored.

“Supplies!” Lilo said, voice high and chipper with excitement. “Being cooped up has kinda, y'know, killed the whole creative vibe, so I was hoping the bug would bite, or something.”

Lilo shrugged, and looked up at Royal.

“Worse comes to worst, hey, ice cream! And stretching our legs, and y'know. Stuff!”

Lilo shut the bag again, and bounced up and down in place for a moment, thumb jerking in the direction of the hall and down to the elevators.

“Anyway, let's start with that ice cream, because hell yeah sugar! I'm gonna eat enough chocolate to choke a toddler! I mean, if there was a toddler here. And like, if we were awful people who force fed toddlers chocolate. Because we're not, I mean I'm not, and I know you're not, that'd be like… crazy insane.”

Almost as insane as the long rambling horseshit that was coming out of Lilo’s mouth at that very moment. Yeah. Totally not weird, dude, totally not completely weird.

Royal's eyes lit up as she looked over the various art supplies that had previously been hidden away within the confines of the bag. She'd always thought that Lilo's artwork was really pretty, and with all the supplies she had tucked away in there, there was no doubt in Royal's mind that some fantastic art was bound to surface. At some point. Even if she had to pick the other Pilot up and shake it out of her! Which probably wouldn't be all that difficult, all things considered.

...okay, well, maybe she wouldn't go that far. But if there was anything that she could do to help inspire one of her friends, then she was going to do it, dang it!

"Well, we've definitely gotta do something about that, then! Don't worry, I promise that we won't come back until we've found something to get those creative juices flowing. You can count on it!"

She gave a reassuring nod and just watched for a moment as Lilo started going off about... sugar? At least, that's what Royal was getting from it. She wasn't really the world's biggest fan when it came to sugar- like many Kulshedra, her favourite kind of food was meat- but seeing Lilo get so worked up about it was actually pretty adorable, despite the whole thing being a tad incoherent. It was more than enough motivation to go out and eat something sweet for a change.

"Ha! Ice cream it is, then. Let's try to not let ourselves get too carried away, though, yeah? We don't want to start falling behind in drills! Rodion would not be pleased."

And with that, she immediately turned around and started making her way down the hallway in the direction that Lilo was pointing towards. She made a conscious effort to get her tail to stay put this time- those spines could really do a number on someone if she wasn't careful with them.
