Bounty Huntress 101 [M]

The halls of the Cancer were as loud and crowded as always, filled with shady creatures of all sorts. Merchants bought and sold game left and right, their shouting was heard far more clearly than any of the other sounds in the station. As Xiga travelled through the crowded halls she was sure to keep her face covered. A large red hood covered her head, it's shadow loomed over her face. If anyone were to look beneath her hood, they would only see darkness along with a few strands of white hair. She did not want to be recognized, there were many criminals, cops, and other lesser forms of scum on this space station that would love to see her dead. It was safe to say, she didn't like it here. It wasn't that she didn't fit in, in fact, she fit in all too well here. Unfortunately that's gotten her into a lot of trouble in the past, so nowadays she tries to avoid the station. However, she's gotta sell her loot somewhere and this was the perfect place to sell illegal goods.

The Bounty Hunter slowly wandered the halls, looking for the right dealer. She only hoped her old guy was still around, otherwise she might have to invest what little trust she had in a new one. Along the way, she past an android merchant, a weapons dealer, a crew recruitment center and a bar. She looked to the bar and smiled a bit, before walking up and taking a seat at the counter. It had been a long ride in a space, and she was definitely in the mood for a drink. She placed a hand on the counter, "your strongest beer please"

"You sure you can handle that lass?" The bartender asked, and the other aliens at the bar chuckled at his remark. Xiga, however, didn't even blink.

"I said your strongest beer." She replied without looking to the bartender. "Please."

Dolly had accompanied the proprietor of the farm she had been staying in to deliver their goods at the spaceport. Usually, these things had to go through some sort of middle man who bought all the goods the small farms of Edanith produced for the season and resold it to trading ships from other planets. Their farm, however, was an unusually large one who had a direct buyer. At the moment, the proprietor had gone to see the man who bought his wares leaving Dolly to sit by a bench looking at the motley bodies rushing about the place.

"Maybe you'd see something that would jog your memory." the old man had told her before she left. So, for the past hour she had been observing men, women, and other entities that boarded and disembarked to and from the different ships from various locations in the vastness of civilized space. She watched as porters and crewmen hauled luggage and other paraphernalia on and off cargo ships and passenger ships. She witnessed a few teary goodbyes, sweet homecomings, and indifferent commuters She watched it all but none moved her.

Then something brushed against her legs. She looked down and saw nothing. Then something cold and hard passed over her right hand which she had laid out on the bench. She turned to it and found a silver ball roughly four or five inches in diameter. All around its metallic surface were grooves cut in peculiar patterns that to Dolly’s intuition did not seem logical. She reached her left hand out to grab a hold of it but suddenly its groves lit up and it rolled over the bench seat and down to the floor. It turned, as if to give her a look, then rolled away.

Dolly was intrigued at the little thing. She was curious to know where it was going. She looked around to see if her temporary guardian was coming back and finding no trace of him, stood up and walked towards the direction of the ball.

Off in the distance amidst the crowd, she could see the odd little object bouncing up and down as if to signal its whereabouts. She pushed and shoved her way through the throng to get to it but it was yet again on the move.

Now something inside her told her it was not wise to move any further lest she lose sight of the rendezvous point. But her curiosity compelled her.

The silly ball rolled and rolled to the other side of the port. Here, not many people roamed. There were the occasional alien or two, and a few humans too. But it was mostly crates and cargo.

Dolly’s inner voice once again urged her to go back. Something did not seem right. Yet she still ignored the feeling and followed on.

Eventually they arrived at a platform that led to the open hull of a cargo ship. The ball bounced up to the platform, waited on her to take the step too, and rolled into the cargo bay.

Dolly peered inside and saw several metallic boxes stacked on top of each other. She did not know what they contained because there was a tarp draped over them that impeded her from reading the labels. She could not miss the fact that they glowed a faint greenish light that softly shifted into a shade of blue and back. She was about to touch the glowing boxes when all of the sudden, the ship shook, the hull door closed, and she felt a powerful push that threw her to the wall.

*****

She opened her eyes to the sight of metal bars. She was in a cage, she was in chains, and she was not in the hull of that ship anymore. This brought a slight panic in her but she squelched it down. By instinct, she knew it would not do her any good to panic. She was a little insulted, though, to be locked up like some pet in a carrier. She sat up, and banged the metal cuffs around her wrist on the bars of her prison. It took her a few minutes but eventually she caught someone’s attention.

The strange tall thing standing on four tentacles was a scary looking fellow. It blew hot snotty air at her face. She interpreted this as anger and she recoiled to the farther side of the cage. It was more for avoiding the slime missiles than any kind of fear though.

The thing loomed hugely over the cage and picked it up. It was carrying her to somewhere else. Dolly hoped it was somewhere with people she could understand. They exited the building out onto the streets. It was a river of dubious looking characters of all shapes, sizes, and species. One thing was for sure though, they did not look like a respectable bunch. They passed by a huge metallic gate that she presumed was an airlock. On the other side was probably the emptiness of space. On the surface of the gigantic portal was painted “CANCER” in alien letters that she still somehow understood. They passed by some seedy looking stalls that vended a large array of items of questionable uses. From that she concluded that she was in some spaceport in the less civilized part of space. They entered another building. It was dimly lit and smelled of things that were edible and others not. All around were more shady characters seated in groups, pairs, or alone. Dolly knew what a bar was and it meant only one thing. It was a chance to escape in the cover of darkness. It was chancy but better to leave now than await the fate she will have with her buyer. Dolly waited until her captor was seated and had a cup or two to drink. She then reached out and grabbed the sharp thin utensil that had fallen to the floor. She used this to pick the lock of her cage and with a satisfying click, she knew she was free. On all fours, she crawled her way under tables and chairs looking for an escape route. Once she crawled straight past a seated creature with eight eyes all trained at her. Her heart left out of her body fearing that she was discovered. Yet the thing just continued to stare. She gave the creature a smile and crawled on.

Then she heard a ruckus and a familiar roar. Her captor has finally noticed her escape.

She need to hurry now. The longer she was on that floor, the smaller her chances got at escape. Her spirit started to feel heavy. But then she heard something that filled her with a remote sense of hope-- the sound of human language. She immediately crawled towards that direction as fast as she could and hoped it belonged to a kind person.

Xiga and the bartender stared at each other in menacing silence for a few moments. The bartender's grimace was cold and ugly. Empty black eyes stared right through her, and sharp, shark-like teeth smiled at her. Xiga remained silent. A number of uncivil insults rushed to her head, but she did not want to break out into a fight right now. So instead, she remained silent. She could hardly see him through her blindfold anyway. Her face was plain and serious. Several minutes passed before the thug finally decided to stop staring at her and poured her a beer. He slid it to her from across the counter, and Xiga caught it by the handle with glee. She lifted it to her lips, delighted to finally have her refreshing alcoholic beverage. Afterall, she had to stare at the bartenders ugly mug for what felt like centuries to receive it.

Just as the beer touched her lips and she felt that familiar euphoria of the first drink in a long day begin to come over her, something brushed against her pant leg. Xiga paused, a thousand terrible thoughts rushed to her head. Figuring it was probably some perve or thief, the Bounty Hunter swung her foot in the direction of whatever it was and then placed her drink back on the counter. Looking down, she saw something she did not expect. It was a little girl frantically crawling away from an empty cage. Looking over to the bearer of the cage, Xiga was disgusted. That had to be the most hideous looking creature Xiga has ever seen in her entire life. She gagged, and just couldn't help but connect to the little girls mind to say something to her telepathically, This guy looks like he's from a REALLLLLLLY shitty porno. She giggled to herself, not really caring whether or not the girl was old enough to know what a porno is. Part of her didn't want to get involved in this whole ordeal, but for some reason Xiga saw a little bit of herself in this girl. When Xiga was a young lady, she was taken away from her family and home, and sent to TRIM by her own government. She really didn't want to see the same happen to this child. Hesitantly, she reached her hand down to help the girl up but she was interrupted by a familiar voice.

"We don't take kindly to thieves 'round here lass." She looked up to see that the bartender, along with every patron at the counter was staring at her. "Now give the nice man back his meat."

Xiga just stared back at them angrily. Her face winced in frustration. Now she was mad. Not because the creature wanted to enslave this young child, but because this goddamn ugly bartender was mouthing off at her again. She had fought back the urge to say something before, but now she was getting fed up. Keeping her face focused on the bartender, Xiga used her free hand to grab her drink and press it against her lips. The girl leaned her head back and chugged the entire beer down in a matter of seconds, finishing it off with a refreshing belch.

"Shut the fuck up shit stain." She said plainly, before slamming the mug onto the bar. "You ugly shark-toothed mother fucker. I'll shove my gun so far up your ass you'll be crying all the way back to Earth. Little fucking pussy." She pushed the mug off the counter and watched it shatter into a thousand crystals on the ground. "Give me a bottle of your finest and a sincere apology and maybe, I'll let you walk out of here with your life."

Dolly froze when she heard a voice in her head. She was definitely not imagining it because the voice was too clear and distinct. She looked around trying to see who was speaking to her. Looking up, she saw a white-haired woman that, although was blindfolded, was unmistakably looking at her. ”Oh gods! She’s human!” was her first reaction. She was relieved to find one so quickly and although she looked dangerous, she didn’t feel any malice coming from her. Although still slightly wary, she decided that she was not in the position to choose. She held up one dirty hand to take her outstretched one but before they could get ahold of each other, she heard a mean, scary sounding voice from the other side of the bar.  She felt more than saw the woman tense. She was getting ready for a fight. ”Oh no. Please not now.” she whispered in her head. The woman was obviously distracted with other things because she clearly was not able to read that from her mind. Dolly thought it best to crawl to a safe spot in-case a fight ensued. She crawled under a table between the boots of a creature with thick thorny red skin. She hugged her knees and waited for what would unfold next, hoping her captor was too dumb to seize the chance to grab her instead of entering the brawl.

The Bartender just stared at Xiga menacingly. His eyes glared at her with sheer rage, and his mouth was open just wide enough to see the tips of his razor sharp teeth. Drool dripped off the edge of his purple lip, and he looked ready to throw down. However, he did not move. He just stood there threateningly. Xiga was pretty confused, as she had been expecting an immediate reaction. Was he trying to scare her? Because it wasn't working.

Xiga placed a palm to the neck of the patron beside her and slammed his head down onto the counter. She then grabbed his glass mug, and smashed it on top of his head. Finally, she lifted him by the collar of his shirt, and shoved him into the Young Girls' captor. The two grunted and snarled, before falling from their stools and onto the floor. A chuckle left the Huntress' lips as she watched them wrestle to stand up. The Bartender just watched her the whole time. He looked much less angry now, and much more frightened. Xiga looked at him, smirked, then reached over the counter and grabbed a fancy-looking bottle of liquor. "I forgive you." She said, before she kicked over a nearby chair with a crab-like patron on top of it, and then lifted the Child up to her feet telekinetically. Telepathically, Xiga spoke to the Child one more, I hope you can run, follow me!

The Bounty Hunter ran off into the crowds of people heading for her ship, while all the patrons she disturbed scrambled to their feet.

It was a good thing that only her wrists were chained, else she would find herself running from a mob of angry aliens hopping like some deranged bunny. She pushed herself off the floor and ran for the door a few seconds behind the lady. A roundish alien with one eye tried to block her exit but she grabbed a bottle from the nearest table and emptied its contents right in its eye. It shrieked in pain and ran out the door itself. Dolly threw the container on the tavern floor and followed after it. She then quickly glanced around and ran with all her might towards the direction in which she saw the woman. She then heard the crash of a large body, some curses, then the door opening and slamming shut behind her and knew their captors were not far behind. Coincidentally, the street started filling up with pedestrians and Dolly was having a harder time of keeping sight of her saviour. She spotted her running past a building with a canopied entrance before a passerby blocked her view and she lost sight of her. She glanced behind her and saw their pursuers getting nearer. “Lady, where are you?” she shouted in her head, hoping that she could somehow hear her.

There was a crowd growing thicker in front of her. She decided it was the best place to lose her captors. She saw a couple of child-sized aliens pass by and she slowed her pace to match theirs. As they stopped nearer the circle of people, she melted into the crowed, found an incredibly large woman standing there, slipped under her skirt, and hid there.

Xiga just kept running through the crowds of people, mostly just assuming the Child wasn't too far behind. She passed the canopied building, turned right and then ran toward the hangar at the end of the hall. "Home free." she muttered to herself. However, just before she made her dash for the exit, she heard a familiar sounding voice echo in her head over all the the others.

"Lady, where are you?"

She froze in her footsteps, and made a full 180. The little girl was not behind her as she thought. "Ah shit, coming." She said telepathically then she ignited the jets on her boots, and soared through the air following her telepathic link to the Girl.

While in the air, the Bar patrons were alerted to her presence. Blaster fire soared around her as she desperately tried to reach the child. "Oh, fuck this!" Xiga shouted, she placed the bottle she was holding in her utility belt, then reached for her blaster and fired at the patrons. Then she kicked her jet boots together, and they turned off. She fell down into the crowd of people, who were now frantically scattering.

Running passed everyone, Xiga eventually spotted the lady with the huge skirt. She ran up to her from behind, lifted her skirt, and quickly bent down and grabbed the child. Then froze for a moment, and glanced at the lady's rear through her blindfold. "Nice.." She spoke, before being hit over the head with an awfully large purse. "Ow!! Fuck!" Xiga groaned and crawled from under the lady's skirt, holding the child in one hand and her blaster in the other . Then she reignited her boots and flew into the air once more.

Blaster fire flew past her as she made her way for the hangar once more.  She passed the corner by the canopied building, and flew down the hall, through the bay doors, and landed amongst the hall of ships. "Alright-alright! We're almost there!" She shouted, then darted down the hall toward her ship. It was the last one on the right side. A little shabby looking but clearly very capable. It was red and black, with bold white letters that read "FX-151B" on the side. Her pace quickened but then slowed to a stop as she reached her ship. However, something was waiting for her in front of it.

"You really thought we wouldn't recognize Zarks' old ship, did ya Xigs?" A hooded cat-like creature spoke his body was covered in fur and he was armed with a large blaster. Five others stood behind him, each heavily armed.

"You're a fucking scumbag, Kitty" Xiga's grip tightened on Dolly. The ten year old girl would feel a somewhat magical, somewhat mechanical heat coming from Xiga's robotic arm. It started to glow lightly, and shake with power.

The Cat-like man grimaced, and lifted his blaster, pointing it Xiga. "That's the last bad joke you'll ever make Xigs. You should have just given me the damn ship."

The Bounty Hunter shook her head. Stalling for a moment, letting her mechanical arm charge. A light static could be heard from Xiga's ear piece. "E.V.E.?" Xiga said out loud, and her comm link blinked on.

"On it." A robotic female voice could be heard from both the ship, and Xiga's ear piece. A giant blaster from beneath the FX-151B turned and pointed at the cat-people, and began to fire at them rapidly. Xiga then, dropped the Girl to her feet and pointed her glowing arm at the leader of the pack. "Get in the ship!" Xiga shouted to the Child, and a giant laser blast flew from her arm.
