Tainted Water Supply [Rhi-Rhi]

It was a beautiful, clear night on the large red planet of Edanith, the stars having come out to shine their twinkling lights from afar. Away from the major cities, the sky was that much more clear out on the frontier. As a cool wind swept through the red soil and meager grasses which grew here, a figure could be seen near a small shack, calmly watching the sky and breathing in the calm around her. The figure was quite tall, just over seven feet and sported light blue skin with long, dangly arms and even longer wavy purple hair.

Plerona had made another visit to this still developing planet, as it was still very far from being completely populated by the humans and other species of Earth, the nearest planetary body to this one. As her three eyes gazed upon the night sky, she marveled yet again at the differences between here and her home world of Trenope. The planet in which she called home was known for their highly psionic cultures and people, as it was engrained into their everyday, normal lives. Plus the materials used here for building homes were rather strange, but Plerona had since pretty much grown accustomed to it. While wood was not scarce on her home world and was used to some extent to build various establishments, their standard black metal that was so common in the Pleiades, known as Pleiadeian Star Metal, was much more well-known and used quite liberally in their case. As well as tough glass panels and a few other things Plerona had yet to see their make on this world here or Earth for that matter. And this brick substance... They certainly didn't have bricks on Trenope. Visiting many planets was still something relatively new for the Trenopian alien as she had only started to do so within the last decade and a half. Her brother had slightly more experience in this matter, but only by a few more years.

Deciding it was time to go back inside the abandoned shack where she had made a temporary residence, Plerona made to do so and prepared to retire for the evening. Their sleeping habits were unique, the three major things which were different were that Trenopians only required five hours of uninterrupted sleep, they very rarely dreamed and when they did, they experienced something similar to what would be known as lucid dreaming. The final thing that would strike others as being completely odd was the fact that they slept standing upright, eyes closed like humans did, but never lying down. Therefore the bed inside had been turned on its side, pushed up against the wall vertically and that was how she slept.

It was still dark when Plerona awoke from her slumber, refreshed after her needed five hours of sleep. Checking the clock on the wall, another interesting invention carried over from the inhabitants of Earth, Plerona determined it to be two in the morning. Having a light breakfast of eggs and a snack from her home planet, Plerona ventured outside again. All seemed to be normal, however her eyes caught sight of something on the ground, a large dark shape that she was certain wasn't there before.

Cautiously, she approached and saw the shape was of a dead cow. Plerona frowned at this in temporary confusion. While there were farms scattered here and there, with at least a couple very near this locale, most farm animals did not go so far from their respective homes like this one obviously had. Bending down, she inspected the corpse to see if she could determine the cause of death. She was no doctor or medic so the alien was unable to really get an idea for what exactly had killed the poor creature.

Standing back up, Plerona brushed off the dust and dirt from her clothes and turned back around. There was nothing else she could do here.  Besides, she had a trip in mind planned for today and that was to visit some of the nearby farms and peoples. Getting a pack of supplies ready, she set out on foot and carefully made her way westward to where the nearest farms were located. Hope was with her as she traveled, a feeling of contentment as she explored the terrain around her.

Pretty soon, a farm came into view several dozen meters away. Yet the alien took her time to see the sights and did not hurry. There was a person outside, a woman wearing earth-toned rough working clothes, a wide-brimmed hat covering her head and hair as she attended her daily tasks of running the ranch she lived on and checking on all the cattle. The purple-haired extra-terrestrial continued to make her way forward, the sun just beginning to rise over the horizon. Plerona hoped to talk with the woman, as well as find out about the mystery of the dead cow from before. Perhaps it had belonged to her? If so, she would likely want to know about it. Plerona was now close enough for the other woman to make out her features and so she advanced slowly so as not to alarm her or give off the impression that she was here to do anything untoward. Any moment now the woman would look up and see her approaching...
