Amanda walked down a dirty street in a market district of the Cancer space station. She had her arms crossed in front of her, unconscious of the discomfort the gesture betrayed. She was more than a little lost. She was accustomed to the simple, clean layout of Edani cities. Navigating the labyrinths of computer security was simple enough, but navigation in the real world proved to be far more challenging than she had expected.
She wore white gloves to hide her hands, and a long white coat of faux leather with a high collar. The feel of the energy weapon she had stolen and tucked behind her back beneath the coat was comforting, but not much. She'd never fired a weapon outside of a simulation in her life.
As she walked she passed the sight of the occasional security camera. Each one experienced a brief moment of static interference, just long enough to fail to capture her image.
All she'd have to do was link into the network and she'd know exactly where she was. The signal was everywhere on Cancer, no dead zones. But she didn't dare use the optic uplink until she had the time and resources to change its signature so she couldn't be tracked.
It was doubtful anyone at Thanatos Inc. had her skill, but their resources were unlimited. In the mean time she was far more concerned with the unsavory look of the people around her.
