As they headed for the house--slow, so Madaline could keep up--the men Naomi had noticed earlier returned to take her horse off to the stables. She let them; poor Ebony was surely tired and in need of a good brushing and wipe down, not to mention some feed and water.

They reached the house, and Naomi held the door open to usher the girl inside. Inside, it smelled an awful lot like apples and cinnamon, and Naomi took a deep breath and held it. Yep. Just like her grandma's.

She let the door swing closed behind them and the noise drew the older woman's attention. She peeked back at them from the kitchen, where she was filling two glasses with liquid from a pitcher. "Come on in, dears, make yourself at home," she said, and set the glasses on a nearby table. "You both look like you've come a long way."

Naomi took a large swig of tea before she answered, "Came up from Tynova on my way to Blackridge. Found this one along the way." She nodded to Madaline and pushed the girl's glass closer to her.

Madaline walked into the house in silence, she stopped when the smell hit her. It was absolutely heavenly. She hadn't smelt something so amazing, well, ever. The one bad thing though was it made her stomach clench in hunger, nearly doubling her over.

Madaline made it to the table, sitting down in the chair. It was amazing, she could sit on something that was solid and not moving. She did appreciate the horse ride, she wouldn't have made it if it wasn't for the horse, but the rocking motion it made made her ill.

She didn't have to have Naomi push the glass towards her, she quickly took the glass, it was so cool in her hand. The coolness felt even better as the liquid slide down her throat, not to mention the liquid's sweet flavor, it was simply amazing. She made herself drink it slow though, though she wanted to drink it in one gulp

Madaline looked at Naomi, leaning closer to the woman, "What is this stuff?" She asked, her voice a soft whisper so only Naomi could hear the question.

Naomi blinked in surprise at Madaline's question. She held up her glass. "This? What, you've never had sweet tea before?"

Perplexed, she tilted her head. It was a rather popular drink, especially out on the frontier. "Basically, it's black tea brewed over sugar, then chilled. Heard it's good for you, but it's also got caffeine in it to keep you energized--not that you need caffeine," she added, pursing her lips. "Actually, not to be rude or presumptuous, but you look like you need a long nap."

Madaline looked pleasantly down at the drink. It was nice, she could definitely get used to it if this was the common drink. It was definitely an improvement over the goop that was fed to her before she escaped.
"Rest will be nice, but I will wait until it is dark," She spoke, just as low before so the conversation stayed between herself and Naomi.
