Portentia's got Potential
« on: June 21, 2011, 07:50:44 pm »
Portentia sat on a corner of the roof. She didn't have a pilot and hadn't tapped anyone of interest, but liked to observe the way pairs in her class worked together. It was boring and frustrating and infuriating all in one, but informative in a way. It wasn't her fault that none of the, for lack of a better word, obedient, humans had piqued her interest. She'd been told that unless she felt a kinship, not to say she did, or make herself believe she did. Well excuse her for not settling. Then again she had always been a little different, she didn't breathe fire, the hottest she could get was steam; she was relatively rebelious for her species. She loved to fly, but she loved to swim more, and in this society, that was definately against the norm. She huffed. "Well Portentia, I take it you can tell me the mistake the two made in the last demonstration?" Oops. She hadn't even realized it had ended, she'd been lost in her own hopeless thoughts and hadn't been paying attention. "Um... the individuals didn't have proper coordination." She said with more conviction than she felt.

Sagittarius loved to watch the Pilots train. She loved the effortless coordination between Pilot and Dragon, the ease of understanding that passed between them like air through lungs. Sagittarius was not all that excited to give herself up to a bossy, arrogant dragon that would probably end up treating her as a human did a dog, but it was inevitable. She wanted that bond. She wanted the strength and the conviction and the rank. She almost ached at the thought of it. But alas, Sagittarius was only a Gracie. She had several long years left before she could even really fantasize about being picked by one of the regal, hulking beasts.

Sagittarius stood in the doorway of the training room for several minutes, watching a pair move together in awkward synchronicity. That wasn't quite right. Her brow furrowed; soon the simulation ended, and attention passed on to another dragon, this one without a partner. The dragon seemed bored. Sagittarius couldn't imagine why, but then again, this training was probably nothing more than an exercise to them: not poetry, not a irrevocable bond. Just an exercise.

Sagittarius moved from the threshold to stand on the sidelines. She nodded politely at the lady dragon. "How d'you do, ma'am," she greeted, her attention on another pair as they moved in graceful spirals.

Portentia watched a human walk to where she had been sitting. She smiled as the human greeted her. She loved to make the quiet sheep-like ones squirm. "I am definately not a mam, and you are definately low on the totem pole arent you?" She said with a feral smile. The human was lower ranked, still a gracie, but a cute one. Some of these humans were adorable. She snickered to herself and looked back at the new pair moving in a slow helix skyward.
